This was adapted really well and I think I actually enjoyed reading this more than I did seeing the movie. Well done!

This collection contains all seven issues of Solo: A Star Wars Story Adaptation. Yes, "Adaptation" is part of the title, technically, and as an adaptation, some changes are made for artistic and visual flow. The plot follows that of the movie of the same name. Han wants to get off of Corellia with his (girlfriend?) Qi'ra. On the run from a crime lord that he...well...kind of swindled, Han and Qi'ra aim to leave, to go anywhere, but are separated in their escape. Han ends up joining the Imperial Navy hoping to become a pilot. He's good, but he also doesn't listen to directions well. When Han finds himself on a planet full of mud and plenty of shooting, it's the last straw. Instead of escaping, he is thrown in to a pit with a Wookie. Thus begins the friendship of Han and Chewbacca. They get a ride offworld with Beckett and his crew, who plan on heisting a coaxium train for crime lord Dryden Vos. When the mission runs awry because of another group of pirates, Beckett loses everything dear to him. Upon meeting Dryden, Han reunites with Qi'ra, only to find she is in with the wrong crowd. Han seeks a ship through the famous Lando Calrissian and ends up stealing a bunch of raw coaxium from Kessel, where he likewise makes the Kessel run, a flight through a massive maw of a black hole and space debris. Of course, Han has a few tricks up his sleeve when it comes to handling Dryden in the last moments.

A lovely adaptation of the movie, this graphic novel feels like it has even more to it. Perhaps it is because it is in words and I can spend more time pausing and noticing details, or perhaps it's just something I missed when watching, but this book feels like it adds even more to a story I am already familiar with. My favorite scenes are the end, and I love the illustration of Darth Maul. Adaptations need to make changes when moving to a comic book form to ensure the images and pages flow well, but still hold true to the story. This is one of the better adaptations out there.

This was not the best adaptation out there, but it was still an enjoyable way to revisit the story. There are very few extra story tidbits that set it apart from the film, and I have yet to read the novel adaptation. The artwork in this was also not my favorite of the adaptations, often times Han had a lemon face in the frames, but all in all, it was a fun read. The Becket one-shot was also part of this volume and it too, only gives us a taste of his character and not nearly enough of a story. Perhaps we will get more stories with Beckett's crew in the future, because they are a great ensemble of characters.

This was such a good adaptation of the movie and I had a great time with it, like I love the way it opens up with Han and Qi'ra and them falling in love and then the stuff with him being captured and joining the imperial academy, how he meets up with Beckett and Chewbacca and teams up with him for a heis and how it goes wrong and all that, enter Dryden Vos and Crimson Dawn and also rival gang leader Enfys next and how it all connects and I just love the romance between Qi'ra and Han and you can see it their love for each other and the tension and even some scenes where he is captured, the pain in her eyes for her loved one and I just love it!!

This is one of those stories where it just makes you care about them in such a great way and I love the execution and the twists and the chemistry between the characters and some fun moments like Han and Lando in the end and how he won the millenium falco.. its so awesomely written!

Its one of those comics if you have watched the movie it will play out scene by scene but if you wanna rewatch it, but rather read this instead, you will havee an even better time and I love the art here, truly one of the best comic adaptations I will say!!

I have a bias here in that I actually do enjoy the movie this is basically directly paralleling. There’s very little here that isn’t in the movie, so it’s a bit hard to judge beyond the art. It’s a bit all over the place, but mostly captures the expressions and palette in a way that evokes the tone and feeling of the actual film. I used to love these adaptations back when I was a teenager and now I’m a little curious why they exist when this one in particular really brings nothing new to the table.

The quartet of sequel-trilogy-era movie adaptations ends with a charming but perfectly adequate adaptation of "Solo." We get a little more backstory here- especially when you factor in the bonus Beckett side story- but mostly this one is a straightforward adaptation with less new material than "Last Jedi" had.

It's still a fun sci-fi romp with a lower-than-usual-stakes plot; if anything there's a sense of what might have been about it since it so clearly set up a sequel that it did not receive.

The Solo comic adaptation is fine, it does exactly what you expect: retells the movie scene by scene, with decent art and a few small extras. I liked Solo the film more than most people, so I had fun reading this, but it didn’t really add anything new or surprising.

Some of the pacing actually works better in comic form, and getting a bit of Han’s inner thoughts was cool. But if you’re hoping for deeper backstory or new angles on the characters, you won’t find much here.

It’s a fun little rewatch in comic form, but not something I’d recommend unless you’re a big fan of the movie.

solo on it's own was a really forgettable movie. It wasn't the worst but I honestly forget it exists because there is no reason for it to exist. But here we are anyway.

This isn't a bad adaptation. It doesn't offer much new insight to the story or the characters (other than a page dedicated to how Qi'ra gets from Lady Proxima to Dryden Vos.

Other than that it's just okay. Not bad. Not good. Okay. Exactly like the movie.

Spring 2020 (March Live Read):

Feeling very meh already, but at least the art is pretty. || Hi, Chewie. Love you, dear. || Ooooooooohhhh. I appreciate we're getting a little demo of Qi'ra through the years art. || Nice flash through time art of the first number of things Chewie & Han got up to after the main plot, pre-Falcon

A very faithful adaptation of Solo: A Star Wars story. I liked that there were just a few added details that weren't in the movie, like a short scene showing how Qi'ra ended up with Crimson Dawn, a bit with Drydon teaching her Teras Kasai... just little bits like that. The art is excellent as well. Overall, I really enjoyed it.

This character is not very Han-like...but there are things I enjoyed about the story. But for something like this...a good story just isn't enough. I wanted more "wow...that was awesome...that was Han Solo."

After reading the Rogue One graphic novel adaptation, I was worried I wouldn't like this. But unlike that, this was good. It kept the pace of the film and added a little more context to Han's placement on Mimban. Overall, this was a great adaptation comic.

There's this great scene in the extended novel where Enfys Nest meets a young Jyn. A bit disappointed they left it out of the comic, and the movie for that matter.

Just like the movie. The mischaracterization of Lando and Han. I have read Star Wars for 30 years. There are tons of reference material. These writers didn’t do their homework.

I enjoyed the movie, but found it lacking somehow. Now I realise that a comic book was a much better medium for the story it was trying to tell.

In my opinion a really fun movie which delighted die-hard EU fans receives one of the best comic adaptations ever. With ample space in the course of seven issues (versus the regular 6, or the paltry 4 of Episode I), we get most of the picture well integrated in the story.

Although the non-movie scenes are far and few, they add to the overall story without hindering the pace. Overall, Robbie Thompson creates a great script which shines in Will Sliney's and team capable hands.

Extremely recommended!
