Altered Genes #2

Altered Genes : Revelations

Rate this book
A small farm community is the perfect place to hide, or is it?

For Professor Tony Simmons and the small group of survivors who live with him, it might not be. Roamer Gangs and death squads are just a few of the hurdles they face as they fight to survive in a world reset to an 1800's level of technology.

And through it all, they will do anything to protect the one person who can save the world from the man-made bacteria that started the global pandemic.

Revelations is the second book in the Altered Genes trilogy with book three (Resurrection) to follow in 2017.

Mei, & Lucia (Latino) heard a commotion.
Lucia went to check while Professor Tony Simmons (Georgetown U, PhD, chemistry), Saanvi, & Emma were fast asleep.

Mei woke Tony up to warn him.
The girl that ran into the garage was very young.
Samantha (mother, surgical RN, Toronto hospital) & Callie (daughter) were from Toronto, Canada.
The deadly virus pandemic had made them/everyone flee.
The Roamers were on the loose & Mayor Thomas “Tom” McNee (widower, farmer) needed to be warned.

Who will perish & who will survive?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very fairly well paranormal book. It wasn’t always very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish, but never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great paranormal movie, an animated cartoon or better yet a mini TV series. It started out with a bang, but then it fizzled out. That said I will only rate it at 3/5 stars.

The second book in the series was just as good as the first! Maybe even better.

Our story resumes on a rural farm in Canada (sounds like to the start of a horror movie, doesn't it?). In this story it's just interesting characters, a lot of action and a race to find a cure for the pandemic ravaging the world.

You'll definitely want to read the first book, Altered Genes: Genesis before this one. The second book ties into the first wholly and a reader might be lost, especially missing out on how the pandemic started and other important details (I don't want to give away too much of the story).

Overall, if you enjoyed the first book in the series, you'll love the second one. It's fast paced while allowing a bit of time to breathe now and again. The characters from the first book continue into the second with some new interesting characters. Now we just have to wait for the third...which I'm already looking forward to.

I received a copy of this book for free directly from the author.

This is a clean next continuation of the first book Altered Genes. Book one centered on more of the science and genetic engineering, with great character development. This book II, Revelations focuses on the next phase, the dystopian society - running, hiding, bad roamer groups, living off the land. I admit the world will be tough not if, but when society breaks down. Every man/women will have to fend for themselves.

I am a science guy, so of course book one, Altered Genes was more my tastes. Thank God, there were no stupid Zombies or something else ridiculous. The story was not overly graphic, nor revolting. The story line flows well.

Mark Kelly is a great author and writes well. The story is very believable, characters compelling, with one of the societies real and scariest problems - germ warfare.

As with book 1 - slammed through this quickly. It was an easy read, continuing my need to suspend my belief: but I did so willingly, as again, this novel wouldn't have been possible without ludicrous luck for all characters involved. Some minor nit-picking is that either the editor didn't pay enough attention, or the conversion to Google Play Books buggered some of the text (numerous typos/punctuation errors occur through all three books), but nothing that affected readability. The developments of the plot were reasonable and again, I enjoyed this book.

This book was so good it was finished before I knew it. I was shocked when I realized I was at the end. I'm glad there will be another book in the series. I just love these characters. They are like "real" people who you've come to care about. That always makes for a better story.

I received a free copy from the author for an honest review. My opinions are genuinely my own.

Another dystopian episode

The story just keeps adding twists and turns. Life goes on in different ways after the pandemic. Bartering is the only currency, slavery the only employment outside duke struggling military. Be careful when the roads have been cleared of vehicles.

Excellent read! Love this series! Can't turn the pages fast enough and looking forward to the next one. Great medical and post apocalyptic story although troubling if this was to happen on this scale today! Highly recommended.

Book 2

Book two is as good as book one. Lots of action. I didn't want to put it down.

I really liked the characters. They were bad ass.

Lucia! Lucia’s unyielding devotion to protecting those she loves, even as new troubles arise, adds great depth to this portion of the story. Looking forward to the third book.

It was a unique take to have the military, post apocalypse, still be working for the good of humanity instead of becoming warlords.

Love this plot!

As an ICU nurse 20 years in, I love plot lines that involve medicine and events that could actually happen and Mark Kelly has combined both of these in his Altered Genes series seamlessly! Brilliant believable story!!!

This is the second book in the Altered Genes series and it is best if you've read the first book to know what the main characters have already been through.

This has a combination of Post-apocalyptic Science Fiction, Military, and Medical genres.

Professor Simmons left the small community where he and his friends have been staying in order to find equipment to manufacture a mass-produced cure. Little did he know that this venture would risk the lives of people close to him, including the most special one of all.

Mr. Kelly didn't sugar-coat how things might be if an actual event like this were to happen. Human nature is not stable or orderly, it is mostly filled with chaos.

Warning: There is violence, adult language, and adult situations.

More scary stuff!
Most second books in a series are not so good as the first, rather like many films. However, this author has kept the pace of action that I so enjoyed in the first of these books, and yet still managed to add many new and interesting parts. I think that the only problem for most people was the long wait to know what happens after the end of this book - happily that has now been published. I rarely give 5 stars for all books in a series, yet I have for this, so that should tell you all you need to know.
