Sweet Read

Having read the first book in this series, I was looking forward to reading the story of the next sister. It can be read as a standalone. I did enjoy this story, there were times that it lacked pace but there was plenty of action in the second half of the book. Bernie and Chester were so different, she acted first, thought after, whereas he was thoughtful and considered the result of his actions. But they were so right for each other even though others didn’t see their relationship that way and did their best to thwart any further engagement. This was an enjoyable read and there are still seven sisters’ stories to come! I received a copy from Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lord Tiberius, Earl of Chester has been friends with the Marsden girl's and a brother figure, but he had one specific sister he had feelings for and that was Bernie. She had also started to notice Chester more and more herself and they were not brotherly thoughts!
But Chester is heir to a strong and powerful family who are not thrilled with his attachment to the Marsden's and it seems he and Bernie are getting too close. What could they possibly do to pull them apart? Oh yes, devise a plan to compromise her with another man!!! They set in motion something does not quite turn out the way they wish!
What happens next? You will have to read to find out and trust me, you will not be able to put this one down until you turn the last page! I have just discovered this author with her first book in this series and I have to say, I cannot get enough of her writing! Cannot wait until more in this series publishes and see how all the sisters find their happy ever after!!

Loved it. I'm really getting into this series, and still only read #1 and 2. I definitely will be reading more of this author. 5☆

One of nine untitled sisters with no brother to serve as heir and no fortune, known as the Northumberland Nine, Bernadette Marsden has determined she must marry to protect her younger sisters. She longs for real love but knows that is no longer an option for her.
Lord Tiberius Evander, Earl of Chester, has always been a friend and brother figure for the Marsden sisters, but lately he's been having thoughts about Bernie that are far from brotherly. Bernie also happens to be noticing him more and more, although she tries to deny it.
Chester is heir to a marquesate and his powerful and very classist family, though loving towards him, disapproves of him earning his own money with investments and of his fondness for the Marsdens. But maintaining only friendship with Bernie is becoming more and more difficult for both of them.
When Chester's family contrives a compromising situation for Bernie, Chester finds himself torn between his love and loyalty to his family, despite the shame he feels of them, and the woman he loves. Chester no longer recognizes he family he grew up with when his mother continues to force Bernie into a marriage, holding the threat of the ruination of her sisters over Bernie's head. With help from friends, Bernie comes up with a plan to ensure Chester admits his true feelings, but it may not be enough to foil his meddlesome and snobbish parents.
It seems this book, or at least some of it, occurs in conjunction with the events of the first book in the series so now I want to read that one as well as the upcoming installments. Chester is one of those rare heroes who is truly a good man and Bernie is a strong and determined heroine without coming off as idiotic. Honorable Chester is torn between Bernie and his family but he knows he must fight for his love rather than settle for the cold relationship his parents have even if it means disappointing and disobeying them for the first time in his life.
I tore straight through this book and am now looking forward to reading about the other sisters. It was great to get a quick story with a couple so determined to be together and it was a very enjoyable read.

He has been feeling things for Bernie lately, and she seems to also get a fluttery feeling if he even touches her chin with his finger. Yet neither has acted on this. His family, however, becomes suspicious that they are too close and they set Bernie up for a scandal so she has to marry another man. Will Lord Chester allow this to happen? Is he willing to lose Bernie to someone else?

The characters were absolutely delightful. Bernie is headstrong and completely “unfiltered”. Lord Chester is the proper gentleman. Their dialog is fun and makes the story line flow smoothly. The reader will feel that despite their differences, these two were always meant to be together. This is the 2nd book in The Northumberland Nine series and this time, the story is about Bernadette and Chester. We met them in book 1 and I was so anxious to read their story!! They have known each other since childhood and Chester has always assumed the role of "protector" to the 9 sisters. As adults, he soon realizes he's jealous of anyone paying attention to Bernadette and in return, she gets tired of his "hovering" over her all the time, although she's more aware of him as well. When they finally declare their love for each other, Chester is in a quandary because his parents will never agree to their marriage since they consider Bernadette below his station....he doesn't want to lose his parents by going against their wishes but he doesn't want to lose Bernie either. It doesn't help that his parents were willing to pay a scoundrel to compromise her and insist on marrying her. Lots of excitement occurs and I couldn't put the book down until I'd finished reading it!! Now I look forward to book 3 in the series!!!

I loved reading this because the time line coincides with the previous book "One Wild Dawn". There is a continuation of the same characters and the focus is on one of the nine sisters. This book focused on Bernadette/Bernie Marsden and Tiberius James Evander, Earl of Chester aka Chester. Bernie and Chester experience true love together. The story covers the prejudice and self-righteousness of Chester's parents and the poor humble beginnings of Bernie's family. There are so many problems to overcome before they can be together. At first Chester is torn between his love for Bernie and his love and devotion to his parents. His parents refuse to accept Bernie and do the unthinkable to keep them apart. When Bernie's and Chester's lives are threatened, as the saying goes cream rises to the top or trial by fire. The result is bound to be more rewarding than the circumstance that brought it about. Bernie is the second oldest of the nine Marsden sisters and is a bit wild. Chester has been a friend for a lot of years, but both of them come to realise their feelings have changed.
I did like Bernie and her wild behaviour, and it was fun to see the couple butt heads. There was some drama to keep things interesting too.
My biggest gripe with this book was having to spend so much time rereading the same story as book 1! Occasionally from another viewpoint but with nothing new to keep it fresh. I really hope I won't have to read the beginning over and over with every book. The repetition is really quite dull and it goes on for far too long before the story diverges.
As with the last book, there were a ridiculous number of typos, including frequent mixing up of to/too, your/you're, there/their/they're. This is really simple grammar, so it was disappointing to keep reading these mistakes over and over.

Smart, sassy, fun. Frank intimate communication is perfect.
Touch of spice.
Highly recommend.

Bernadette is one of nine sisters who all need to marry well to help their family. Lord Tiberius the Earl of Chester has known her family and been friends for years but recently he has been having strong feelings for Bernie and his family is not happy. His mother schemes a plan to compromise Bernie in order to force her marriage to another in order to get her away from Tiberius. She knows he cares for her so she sets a plan in motion to force them together for two nights in hopes he will admit his feelings. Loved the romance and the suspense.

Chester had been the sister’s friend and protector for years. Now they all were of marrying age and would be on the market. Yet for Chester who thought of himself as their brother, he was confused by what he felt for Bernie. Bernie is look down at being a bit different yet after many twists and turns she finds that fate has something special for her. Will Chester stay her friend? What does fate have in store for Chester? Loved the book and all the characters the author had decent villains too. I highly recommend this charmer. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

The Earl of Chester and Bernadette Marsden are neighbors and best friends, but he doesn’t see her anything more until she has suitors a house party. Chester has to deal with scandals in her family, his parents who don’t want them to marry and will stop at nothing to make that happen including trying to force a betrothal between Bernie and a money grubbing scoundrel, and an attempted kidnapping by that scoundrel. Bernie was tough defending her family and herself from the scoundrel Rupert. There was a lot of humor, suspense, and romance in this best friends to lovers novel. I can't wait to read the rest of Bernie's sisters’ romances.

This was a fun Regency romance with great characters, romance and intrigue. Bernie is the second of nine sisters who are impoverished but are protected by a neighbor friend. They are all invited to a house party to find husbands for the sisters. However, Chester, the friend, is in love with Bernie and they both finally realized it. His parents are against her since she isn't rich and try to marry her off to someone else or ruin her sisters. There is a lot of intrigue, but a HEA.

This is a delightful love story as childhood friends Bernie and Chester discover that their friendship goes so much deeper than either of them ever realized. Their wonderful banter and the chemistry they share nearly sizzles off the pages. But true love never runs smoothly and they much encounter resistance and trials along the way to their HEA.

Liked it a lot better than the first one. The hero was actually worth rooting for. The first half does drag especially if you've just read the first one, because it just recaps previous events from a slightly different perspective. The resolution with his parents was a little too Disney in my opinion, but I still like a happy ending.

Could have been good. I think the author had a deadline to reach so filled most pages with unnecessary detailed sex scenes. I see this often when the writer can't develop a new plot or give depth to characters and story.

Fun with attempted character motivations outside the main romantic relationship. However, largely same story as in the first book of information the reader already knows. I was looking forward to learning more about the main characters.

3.5 stars Entertaining.
The nine sisters certainly capture interest. This is first book I've read of the series. I enjoyed so much that I'll be ordering the other books.

If there is one thing I hate in books, it is books that are sequels that just give you chunks of the first book, but make you read one extra line from a different person's perspective. Lazy.
