Dark, Twisted and Delicious

As usual, Kitty Thomas didn't disappoint. Angel reminded me of Asher from Tender Mercies. He was strong and kind, morally grey and ultimately a wonderful Master.

I wish this was a full length book rather than just a novella, I want more!!

This was a short quick read that I liked although I wished the ending was better. While returning home from a trip Astrid walks in on her husband being killed. Angel is a hot sexy contract killer while taking out Joey in walks Astrid and its lust at first sight for him Angel knows he can't leave her so he takes her with him. Astrid has been through a lot at the hands of Joey her husband he is a sick sadist who deals in human trafficking she is glad that he is dead but she is afraid that Angel will kill her next. Sometimes Ms. Thomas books are hit or miss for me I compare them all to the first book I read by her Comfort Food this one was good. Angel knows that he wants her and won't let her go. When she gets scared in the middle of the night she goes to his room to sleep in his bed. When she finds his dungeon she tries to run because she has bad memories of what he ex did to her he shows her that he is not that man and only wants to bring her pleasure. This book had a twist at the end and I felt that I was left hanging. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

He saw the excitement in her eyes when he gave the order. Yes, this girl was his. She just didn't know it yet.

I am a sucker for capture fantasy books and when you have K.T. as the author, I knew I would love it. ...and I did. 4 solid stars for the slow dance that lead to a HEA in more ways than one. It is a short “book” but it was well on its way to 5 stars if it was just a little longer to reach its true potential.

The author of ‘Comfort Food’ writes dark romance like no other! I was desperate for more Angel and Astrid after reading this dark short story. Angel is a cold-blooded killer but he wants to keep the beautiful and innocent Astrid as his own. Will his twisted scheme work? ‘Trust Game’ is a sexy and tantalizing peek into the world of dark romance with a hint of BDSM. I need more!!!

This is a great novella. Well written, with instantly likable characters and a thought provoking storyline. There is a line in the book which caused me to do a lot of thinking about the whole topic of con, noncom, rape and what constitutes what. That line was "Ambiguous molestation". What determines force (rape), versus strong desire and an overwhelmingly enticing dominant alpha personality that makes you want to surrender? If you secretly want to give in, is it still rape? The heroine is often examining her own thought process as to why she enjoys what he does. At any rate, this is the kind of sex I love. Strong alpha and submissive female, both with strong desires for each other. Loved the story, and I want more! Kitty, this could easily turn into a full book, and I really want it. Please? You know you want to. ;-)

Angel kills people for money. Usually, they're bad people and the world is better off without them. He's really doing the world a favor and making money while at it. What's the harm? Then while he's in the middle of his current contract, the wife of the victim walks in. He decides to take her with him.

Astrid wasn't at all upset to see her husband die. Shocked, yes. Upset, never. Her husband wasn't a good man and she knew that first hand. She knew that her husband trafficked women and then harvested their organs for the black market when they were too used up for sex any more. That doesn't mean that she's not terrified of the guy that killed him, no matter how hot he was.

This is a dark, erotic short story. Kitty Thomas really gives you a full plot and wonderful characters that you instantly end up liking. The story will make you think. I really enjoyed this quick read. The only thing I would've liked more was more time with Angel and Astrid.

Until he'd seen Astrid, he'd been able to convince himself that his moral reasoning wasn't entirely disconnected from the rest of the world at large. Now there was no longer any doubt. He saw her. He wanted her. He took her. Simple as that. There was no justification needed, though he'd attempted to argue with himself about that. He'd done what any natural animal in the wild would have done.

**Book was provided to me by the author. This review is my opinion and was not requested or provoked in anyway by the author.

This messed with my head a bit, but in a very good way! Angel is a brooding anti-hero, with a calculating mind, not a heart of gold. Precise, accurate, and focused in all that he does. Disciplined, until he sees her, then he acts out of character. He isn’t all warm and fuzzy all of a sudden, he just doesn’t act as he would normally act. Astrid has had a hellish existence, and the devils she knows she doesn’t want, and at least she feels something for Angel. The depth of her pain and suffering isn’t known to him, but even once it is, he is who he is, and he wants what he wants. In the end, they both realize it was absolutely for the best

This is a quickie, but it still packs quite a punch, and I was enthralled by every word and action in the story!

Angel is a ruthless contract killer, his latest mark is Joey Callazaro, he’s sitting outside his house waiting to make his move. Joey’s wife just left the house to catch a red-eye flight to Vegas for a work-related convention. The people Angel kills are not good people, they deserve to die so why shouldn’t he make money doing it ? Joey was involved in human trafficking, prostitution, and organ harvesting. Angel kills Joey and as he’s about to leave Astrid comes home unexpectedly. Angel doesn’t like loose ends but he can’t kill Astrid so he takes her with him. Astrid hates her husband and is happy he’s dead but can she convince Angel not to kill her ?

I’ve been a longtime fan of Ms. Thomas and while her novels are spectacular sometimes you want a quickie to lose yourself in. Powerfully intense, Trust Game scratched that itch I didn’t know I had.

Angel is a hired killer and during one of his jobs, the wife walks in. She’s not part of the bargain. Unwilling to kill her he takes her with him…only now he’s unwilling to set her free. Astrid walks in during her husband’s murder. For one glorious second she is finally free of his abusive, that is until the murderer takes her and refuses to let her go. Terrified for her life, she once again finds herself trapped in a man’s cage. Yet, she is strangely attracted to this man, this killer. What will he do to her? What does he want from her? Better yet…what does she want for herself?

A victim of an abusive situation and a witness to a murder, Trust Game feels like a combination of TM and MC smooshed together. A seasoned Thomas fan will know what I mean. So hard to wrap around my mind that Angel is a killer when he is so, not caring, not loving, but something hard to put into words. How Astrid starts isn’t necessarily how she ends. Saying she was accepting or resigned to her situation would be a lie. I think I’m looking for the word liberated. But of what? Both Astrid and Angel and their thoughts are something as a reader you will need to define for yourself.

If you’ve never read Kitty before then Trust Game is a good introduction to her style. If you’re a seasoned reader, like me, then you’re going to enjoy this little morsel. And I really did enjoy it so much so I let myself get too compliant. I’m usually know better than to let my guard down, because inevitably there will be a moment when I feel the happiness rushing in and suddenly, in one sentence, Ms. Thomas will find a way to have my jaw on the floor. Hope you enjoy that moment as much as I did.

Another dark, comes with trigger warnings, exceptionally written novella by Kitty Thomas.
This is Astrids story. One of an extremely abused woman who feels completely trapped by her worthless pimp, human trafficking, and organ harvesting husband. When he moves in on the competitions territory a contract is taken out on his head and in enters Angel.
Angel while finishing up the job, gets surprised by the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. A goddess to his eyes that he cannot and will not let go.
This strong, dark, Alpha male and the intelligent, mentally fragile, submissive start down a path of negotiating, compromising, self-evaluation, and hot-kinky sex.
The character development is well written and left me thinking about it long after finishing the story. Kitty Thomas can write about dark issues in a way that makes you think and contemplate one’s personal view of the darker side of human nature and perhaps see things in a different way by experiencing the story through the characters eyes.
Once again she has truly captivated me and gave me a new couple to love and crave more of.
To sum it up best I’ll use the words of Astrid. “Part of her couldn’t help seeing Angel, not as the Angel of death, but as an avenging angel rescuing her from the pain and terror she’d been trapped in with no way out.” A fabulous, quick read, well worth the time and all five stars.

“I could make you want anything. Play a trust game with me. You’ll see.”

Astrid has been locked in an abuse relationship with her murderous human trafficking husband. A delayed flight causes her untimely arrival at home, and interrupting her husband’s killer. Feeling elated that her husband is dead and can no longer harm her, she doesn’t put up a fight when she’s kidnapped. But as time ticks by, Astrid begins to wonder if she’s traded one evil for another…

Angel has never once deviated from one of his contract kills. But when he sets eyes on Astrid, there is something about her that calls out to his dominative nature. Angel steals her away and offers her anything if she gives him everything

In Kitty Thomas’ novella, Trust Game, Astrid is asked to take a leap of faith…with a killer. Within a few short pages, the author lets us peak into a world of “what if’s” and “would I’s”. If you are new to darker romances, this is a great one to kick start your addiction. Enjoyed and would recommend!

“Let’s play a game”

Angel is a hitman with a code of honor, making him a perfectly flawed combination of bad and good. His possessiveness and masculine, self-controlled poise is enough to make me swoon; traits the beautifully damaged (and much relatable) Astrid is not immune to as she struggles with giving in to their erotic desires.
~“It was sometimes hard to tell the difference in a man who was dangerous in all the right ways versus a man who was dangerous to her.”~

Yet even with all its elegant eroticism, one standout trait I adore in a Kitty Thomas book (among many) is no matter how dark the story, there’s always a bit of wit; sometimes refined and dry, sometimes playful, always patented to the characters.
~“I'm Angel.”
“Not a very fitting name for a killer.” This was really the kind of thought that should just remain in one's head.
“It is when the last part is (of death),” he replied without missing a beat. ~

This is a shorter read with well rounded characters I adored. You know the author did it right when you’re anxious and eager for the killer to find his happiness. :P
LOVED Trust Game and HIGHLY recommend 💯

Astrid is married to an abusive asshole, one that deals in human trafficking and black market organs. When she arrives home to find his throat slashed, she’s hardly upset about the loss....however she is rather distressed that Angel, the man hired to kill him, is still in her home with a bloody knife in hand. Angel has no intention of harming an innocent, especially one as beautiful and alluring as Astrid, however he also can’t let her go. So, of course, he takes her back to his home to keep her.

I love Kitty Thomas, and really liked the premise, but honestly, this one fell a bit short for me. It felt somewhat rushed to me. And yes, I get it, it’s a novella... but I wish it hadn’t been. This would have made a great full-length novel with a slow, more realistic build of trust between Astrid and Angel (also, I just wanted more of the two of them in general!). And the end felt rather abrupt, almost cliff-hangerish.

This is a quick little read by Kitty Thomas. I love all her books, so getting a new one is always a yay.

Angel is a hired killer who is supposed to go kill a trafficker. It's supposed to be a quick in and out, but then Astrid comes in and everything gets all fouled up. She runs, he chases, and she ends up going home with him.

This is so much about trust and trying to figure out what you are and what you want and what you need and if it's ok to want that. I love how Angel and Astrid work together. Kitty Thomas is so good at writing characters like Angel and Astrid and making those interactions feel so real and organic.

Well it has been almost a year since Kitty Thomas last book release and it was worth the wait. She still has a her magic mojo to engage the reader.
This is a really short novella but beautifully written. The main character Angel and Astrid have a believable balance of alpha male/submissive female. This is not a dark story like I am used to but still have some BDSM component.
I will not go in detail about the story since its short but definitely worth it.
Oh and the end.........spectacular

This audio was FANTASTIC. Even though it wasnt very long, it gave me all the great Kitty feels I always get while reading her. It was short & naughty. The ending was so good and also left it open for maybe a book 2?.. Maybe I am just hoping because I love this author so much I always need MORE! Addison Barnes did such an amazing job on this. Astrid & Angel were a dream! 5 stars and beyond!

THE HITMAN’S CAPTIVE – is it imprisonment or liberation? **4.5 trust me stars**

What a twist! Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can turn out to be the right thing. Heroine ASTRID seems to jump from the frying pan into the fire after being taken and "owned" by ANGEL, the hard-edged hitman hired to kill her husband. I mean, she witnessed the hit. He had only two options -- keep or kill. At any rate, Astrid's life as she knows it, is over. Didn't see that one coming, but I loved it. And lest any of you Kitty Thomas newbies think that Angel is a sweet guardian angel come to save the damsel in distress with hearts and roses and promises of romantic love ... think again! He has dark, specific needs and control issues that can only be satisfied by a complete, submissive pet that he treats, cares for, and rewards ... well, like a pet. Is that what Astrid wants? And what happens, if she doesn't?

What I love about Kitty Thomas books -- another HUGE shout-out to my fave COMFORT FOOD -- is that, while I don't pretend to know, understand, or embrace the lifestyle of the characters in her books, they still offer a certain enchantment that reels in a reader and captivates with a darker, edgier, reality – proving that the concept of love comes in many forms and packages. She takes me out of my comfort zone and flips me into a reality I can't imagine with stories that have me rooting for each couple, no matter how twisted or depraved. Angel and Astrid are made for each other, but it wasn't smooth sailing. What would it take for someone to trade one life of captivity for another? This short novella had me on pins and needles, and engulfed by their relationship. It's short enough to be satisfying by itself, but also leaves, I think (hope), the door open for a sequel. Well done once again, Ms. Kitty. You're corrupting me one delicious story at a time.

I'm not sure how she does it, but even within a short story, Kitty pulls us in and captivates us. Wow!

Angel isn't anything his name suggests. In fact, it's not even his real name. Why? Because he's a hit man. One that isn't afraid to take out those who don't deserve to live. So..they're kissed by the Angel of death. Nice, right? I thought so. But when one of his jobs doesn't go exactly as planned, he finds himself keeping a souvenir. And what a souvenir it is.

Astrid walked in to a scene straight out of a movie and can't believe her eyes. Besides the emotions that are racing through her brain, she finds herself surprisingly content with it. But now she's being kidnapped, but is she? Hmmmm.....

I mentioned this is a short, right? So much so that you can literally read this within a couple of hours. It's quick, but filled with just enough of everything Kitty that keeps you turning the pages and closing it with a smile. Some may not like the ending, but I thought it's a perfect Kitty finale.

This story is short. It’s supposed to be short, its a novella. This does not detract, in anyway from what the story has to offer.
The story is well put together, the characters will bind themselves to you immediately. Angel, the unapologetic Alpha, who is looking for love. He just doesn’t know it yet and the damaged, yet very strong submissive, Astrid.
The moment she walks in on Angel as he stands over her dead husbands still warm body you can start to argue that maybe, even though the act of killing is wrong/cannot be condoned in any way could it be forgiven or seen passed, as all the evils that her husband was responsible for stopped.
So does that make Angel a good Angel, or an evil Angel. Either way he is what he is.
Then in the end what choices do we have when true Alphas are a cursed breed.
In short – I loved it. Thank you Kitty.

While Angel and Astrid's story may not be "love at first sight", Fate definitely had a hand in their chance meeting. Astrid walks in on her husband's murder by Angel's hand and she becomes a loose end that must be dealt with - but he finds he cannot kill her. The entire novella takes place in less than 24 hours. The "whirlwind romance" relationship is anything but the average retelling of boy-meets-girl, and love is never professed, but the way Kitty Thomas writes their story makes it seem at least plausible. That plausibility is only strengthened in the way Astrid is portrayed - she is the survivor of an abusive husband and her reactions resonated as such. Though the story is short, it was a powerful one. A twist in the tale only made it that much more fun to read. This was such a perfect pick-me-up read and a delicious way to tide Kitty fans over until her next big release!

Let's play a game, I'm in !!

Kitty Thomas knows how to keep you on your toes. This story of a woman who lived in abusive and loveless marriage, Not only does she get kidnapped but kidnapped by the man who killed her husband right before her eyes! She runs but where is she running to. Is the lust she felt while looking into her husband's murderers eyes really lust, it couldn't be, could it? Agnis will find that out, while her kidnapper brings her to a beautiful mansion, to live with him and enlightens Agnis on her situation. He is not letting her go, he doesn't plan on hurting her unless it's pain that turns into pleasure. One thing for sure and that she must understand is that she is his!
Book 2 is going to be hawt and I can wait.

Kitty Thomas has a gift for making the darkest situations somehow appear less dark, and even desired at times. Astrid's life appears bright, but it's dark indeed with her husband's activities. Enter Angel... who offers a dark sort of mercy indeed. He's not a knight in shining armor, and rescues her from her nightmarish life to enter Angel's own darkness instead, and yet, he is by far not the monster one might assume.

It's a thrilling ride of excitement, and also an intriguing trip into the psychology of the two as they work through their own demons and still somehow find some measure of completion together. This was a quick read, but still so deep, and well worth the wait from a talented author.

Mind-Freaking-Blown, guaranteed!!

First thoughts that came to mind after I turned the last page, "breathtaking, outstanding, intense, memorable and I want more". This exciting story is filled with danger, intrigue, steamy scenes, passion, and darkness!

I bet this book has gone beyond anyone's expectations. Author Kitty Thomas has outdone herself with this dark masterpiece. The story is beautifully well-written, intricately plotted, fascinating, suspenseful and with characters so real and unforgettable, they practically jump of the pages. Mind Freaking Blown guaranteed.

Angel and Astrid's journey was a dark, wild ride, one I wouldn't mind continuing to enjoy!!

Five stars it is!

Have you ever wanted what you knew you should not want? Have you ever wanted something that you could not deny yourself? “So what difference does it make if you enjoy the fall?” I can tell you after reading this what I want.....I want more! An Angel who makes no apologies for being exactly who he is and taking exactly what he wants. I wish it was me he wanted!
I was going to give this four stars because I wanted this story to be longer than it was. Then I thought so because the story is written so well I loved it I am going to down grade a five star review to a four? That sounds crazy! Five stars it is.

Short, dark and very tasty,i enjoyed this little gem a lot!
I’m só glad Kitty decided to give us Trust Game as a treat,it was perfect!

Astrid awakens something in Angel when he sees her.
Having just killed her husband,he knows it’s not a great first impression, but he knows he wants that beauty. Catching her is easy, but how to convince her he won’t hurt,or kill, her?
So,he gives her a chance to play a game to show her she can trust him. To show her he’s not like the man he just killed.

Loved this dark little beauty!

- crazy dog lady here-

Unfortunately, I didn't love this novella.

My biggest complaint was that they just left the dogs at the house!!! I would have LOVED this novella, if Angel had taken the dogs with them. The entire novella, I was thinking- will the neighbors hear the dogs barking? Will they able to break into the kitchen to eat food? Will they have access to water? What if crazy Joey gets the dogs?

I'm going to assume the dogs were adopted by a wonderful family and lived happily ever after.

Thanks.
