Teenage artist Amy Love feels someone in the room with her, even if she can’t see them—the goosebumps and hair prickles on her neck don’t lie. The most popular boy in school finally asks her out and now a ghost is following her on the date? So unfair.
Finally unable to take it anymore, Amy confronts her invisible stalker only to have him jump into her body to communicate with her. He’s Jonathan Miller, the teenage son of a famous cartoonist, who was in a recent car crash. Jonathan has somehow lost touch with the corporeal world and needs Amy’s help.
In order to get her privacy back, Amy teams up with Jonathan to find out what went wrong for him. She’s the only one he can count on and, as they search for answers, he turns out to be the one person she can trust. Before too long, their friendship deepens and so do other feelings. But how can she be falling for a boy she’s never really seen and maybe never will?
SUSAN HATLER is a New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author, who writes humorous and emotional contemporary romance and young adult novels. Many of Susan’s books have been translated into German, Spanish, French, and Italian. A natural optimist, she believes life is amazing, people are fascinating, and imagination is endless. She loves spending time with her characters and hopes you do, too.
I laughed through the entire book. This was very unexpected and unpredictable. I enjoyed all the characters especially Owen, the nerdy friend with a crush on the heroine.
I have to be honest here. When Susan Hatler sent me this book to review, I was all kinds of worried. I'm not really a zombie lover. I don't like books that scare me and zombies really aren't my thing. And Ouija boards? No, not at all. So yeah. I was worried I wouldn't like this book and I wasn't even sure if I wanted to read it. Then I was worried about telling the author that I didn't like it because I really like her writing and her other books. I decided to settle in and check it out though because I know Susan writes so well and I've always loved whatever she sends me. I trust her. So much worry. And for NOTHING because I really liked this book! :) Phew!!
If I were classifying this book though, it wouldn't really be as a zombie book but more of a ghost book. If you have seen Ghost, it was kinda like that scene where Patrick Swayze goes into the body of Whoopi Goldberg to communicate.
Amy Love. (what an awesome name!) Amy struggles with finding her place in a reorganized family. She feels invisible, like nobody at home or school cares to see the real her. One day at school she is "zombied" or taken over by Jonathan, a spirit who can't find his own body. Amy is kicked out of her own body. She can "feel" Jonathan when he is a spirit and the two of them make a connection.
I love how the title of the book "See Me" directly relates to the whole theme of the book. It includes both main characters and runs on surface level but also delves deeper.
This book wasn't scary at all. It wasn't creepy or anything. It was a new twist on an old idea and it was really fun to read. There was no swearing or sexual content which of course makes me very happy. I love clean YA books! And I love Susan Hatler. I'm going to add this book to my daughter's "OK" reading list because I think she will enjoy it too.
I just finished reading this book and the word that best describes it is awesome! It is full of so many different emotions, from laughter to tears, from fear to love! This book covers it all and I couldn't put it down! It is so different with the zombie/ghost craziness and the story has this pull that I could not resist! The dynamic between all of the characters was realistic and I laughed so hard at parts there were tears in my eyes. Then in turn there were parts where I had tears from sadness. There is plenty of action in it too and the story played out nothing like I imagined! It was pure awesomeness and I cannot wait for a second book like this one! See Me is one YA paranormal book that any teenager or one at heart will not want to miss! Hatler continues to amaze me with her ability to write any genre that pulls me in hook, line and sinker! I received a free copy of this book and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Sixteen-year-old Amy Love is a junior in high school who describes herself as having "average looks, pathetic grades, and a closet comic strip addiction." She not only loves comic strips, she longs to create a comic strip professionally herself someday.
Amy's life is fairly ordinary until the day that sixteen-year-old Jonathan Miller, who is a fellow student at the public high school Amy attends, dies suddenly in a traffic accident, and his spirit shows up during a Ouija board session with her two best friends. In order to better communicate with Amy and seek her help, Jonathan possesses her body, throwing her spirit out of her body in order to achieve that. At first Amy only wants to help Jonathan figure out why he is still hanging around, rather than moving on to wherever ghosts go, so she can get her body back. But when he returns her body to her and proceeds to take over the body of a male classmate of Amy, she finds herself getting caught up in the drama of Jonathan's tragic situation, and her feelings of sympathy and caring for him grow as the two of them, together, rush to find a solution to his frightening situation.
This G-rated, contemporary, young-adult romance novel has a fun, humorous, paranormal twist, particularly in the way the author resolves the main plot conflict to produce a happy ending in keeping with the light tone of the book overall.
Amy and Jonathan are sympathetic characters, first and foremost because they never give up. They face obstacle after obstacle and just keep going.
This YA novel stands out among the vast majority of paranormal YA novels these days in that it is filled with many humorous plot twists as it pursues a cute, quirky take on the paranormal, in contrast to the typically very dark YA paranormal novels.
This novel is suitable for all ages. There is no foul language, no sex, no drinking, smoking or drugs, and no wild parties.
I was a little hesitant about this being a zombie book, but I've enjoyed Susan Hatler's other books, so I thought I would give it a try. It's more of a ghost story really. Cute, with a paranormal angle, and a sweet quickly-developed romance.
I liked that it was a ghost story without being violent or scary.
When I first looked at this book, I didn’t know what to expect. The heroine did seem a bit floozy and the hero wasn’t even alive! I usually don’t read all that sci-fi or fantasy because I really haven’t found many good books out there to do with those genres. I read Shaken by this author and I guess I was a bit more ready to read a book with paranormal abilities. So I went ahead. My first thought on the first couple of chapters was WOWZA. I already know I like this writing style and that I’ve liked every single book by this author but this was something else.
The characters were wonderful. Jonathan was hilarious and taking the whole ghost thing much better than I would. Even Amy was really strong. She grew throughout the story and made so many new memories along with learning a lot. I seriously didn’t expect the story to go with so many twists and turns. The story was easily imaginable and the characters were hilarious. I like how there was so much happing but I was able to keep track of it. It sorta reminded me of a Sherlock episode for all those who understand me. Overall, it was a great story and worth reading.
I received a review copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Yep, it’s official. Paranormal romantic comedy is my new favorite, especially when there’s an element of suspense added in. The story itself is extremely different from the last of its type I read, but the reasons I enjoyed it so much are mostly the same. Amy and Jonathan’s story kept me sputtering with laughter as they ran into situation after situation that could only happen to them. This story, while it seems quite logical, is a take on the paranormal world I don’t think I’ve seen before. And, at the end of the day (or at least the end of this book) there’s an important lesson to be learned. As people, we connect with one another at the vulnerable points. We may all want to appear like we’ve got it all together, but it’s when we let it all go that we’re able to reach one another – to see the individual behind the social mask. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
This book is both a funny story about the spirit of a dead boy who goes around "zombieing" bodies while trying to communicate that even though his body is dead, his spirit is still very much alive. It's also about a girl who feels like nobody sees who she really is, especially not her mother, who is remarried and has a new family, and her father who is a world traveling photographer.
The story really addresses the issue of the masks people wear to conceal their true selves to avoid getting hurt by family members and friends or classmates, even their BFFs. Telling the story through Amy, who feels invisible, and Jonathan who really is invisible (unless he is "borrowing" someone else's body) convincingly explains what it is like to feel as though nobody cares enough to see the real person, not just the persona they put on.
This is a terrific read for teens of all ages, and even as an adult, I could relate to the characters and enjoyed the story.
I have mixed feelings about this. It was a fun story with preposterous happenings. There was true depth and an emotional rollercoaster. It starts with a ouija board, which creeps me out, and moves into body snatching and artificial humans... yeah... some crazy stuff. It‘s greatest redeeming quality is the love and all its extensive forms. So, if you are ready for a bit of light reading with deep meaning at a fast pace... this ones for you.
A teenage story of uncertainty, self-doubt, conflict between parents and children… and a love story, or the beginnings of one. The feeling of many teens, girls and boys alike, is that they are invisible to the people who matter in their lives. This induces them to hide their fears and feelings even to their best friends.
"See Me"explores these feelings in characters, who for one terrifying reason or another, become invisible. As they sense their separation even from themselves, they find people who can see them, and can encourage them to be themselves and to understand others as well.
I really loved everything about this book. It had all the things that I like in one book. Great characters, awesome storyline, romance, suspense, lots of twists and turns, easy to read, entertaining, and an interesting ending. Read it straight through without any breaks. Very enjoyable. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Paranormal YA book. Teens struggling to grow up and understand their parents. Amy feels like she’s invisible, she’s never noticed until Alex asks her out. She and her friends decide to use a Ouija board before her first date with Alex. Strange feelings start to happen even days later. It seems like the Ouija board spirits are sticking around. How will she handle things when a spirit invades her body and then a friend’s? Definitely for preteens and young teens, a little far fetched for adults. I will admit to shedding a few tears at the end.

I don't rememver thinking like that as a teenager... But it's been a long time. I had a hard time with the characters and how self centered they were but as the story progressed I found them growing and by the end they were still 16 but more "enlightened". This story had all the feels. I laughed, I cried and I was glsd by the ending. Clean anf sweet a very good story
What a cute book. It was a very fun and adventurous read. Loved this book. Loved falling what she would do for his spirit. They were cute together. Funny how they got so many people to believe.
Story line is great, and I loved the characters. I really enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend it! Unexpected twists and turns had me reading this book in one sitting. Great storyline and character development made this book a hot and enjoyable read!
I thought this was a typical angsty paranormal teen romance so it seemed so... odd. But once I realized I was reading a quirky comedy, I got into it and really enjoyed it.
Attention teens who are into Ouija boards and fans of The Walking Dead! See Me (Zombie Love Book 1) by Susan Hatler is a young adult paranormal, romance novel. Yet the title "See Me" directly relates to the whole theme of the book. This includes both main characters and delves deeper than surface level. How different situations are seen is directly related to the point of view of the character. I, personally, am not well versed in zombies and although this would not be my first book of choice many teenagers will be delighted with the characters and the humor in the situations. It's not a bloody, knife throwing type of story, but more of a "zhost" type of description. Think of the scene in Ghost where Patrick Swayze goes into the body of Whoopi Goldberg to communicate. Amy Love feels invisible in her own family. One day at school she is "zombied" or taken over by Jonathan, a spirit who can't find his own body. Amy is kicked out of her own body and floats around above watching what is going on like the main character in Lovely Bones. She can "feel" Jonathan when he is a spirit and the two of them make a connection. Amy's BFF's Nicole and Brynne unintentionally connected Amy with Jonathan's spirit when they thought it would be fun to consult a Ouija board about Amy's date with Alex. Amy figures this out while she is in the zombie zone trying to get her body back. Amy does a Google search to find out what happened to Jonathan and asks the smartest person she knows, Owen, to help get Jonathan back into his own body. A trip to the cemetery and to an artificial body warehouse are just two stops along the hilarious adventure that readers will follow. This is the first book in a series so you won't have to part with the characters forever at the end of this journey. This is no swearing or sexual content in the book and I will place it in my classroom recreational reading library where those students searching for zombie books can easily find it. I read this book on netgalley.com.
Do you believe in spirits that transcend off of the Ouija board? This story starts off with a simple game on the Ouija board with Amy and her closet friends to reveal the faith of first date with the most popular boy in school, Alex Decker. They ask all the important questions; if the date will be fun, if he will fall head over heels for her, and the most importantly will he give her a goodnight kiss?
Amy Love is too old to believe in ghosts and zombies, at least she thought she was until she ruins her first date with Alex by feeling spooked because of the Ouija board. She couldn’t even lean into her goodnight kiss without the spirits bothering her.
A few days go by but the constant feeling of being watched doesn’t fade away. It isn’t until Amy accidently slips and bumps her head when she starts to see things that no one else could phantom. In that moment Amy feels free and trapped all at once and when she opens her eyes again she realizes that she has lost total control of her body. It is like her soul has been trapped in the belly of her stomach and some boy seems to be taking her place. She tries everything in her power to get out and take control of her body but it is no use.
Jonathan is a sixteen-year-old boy who seems to have found himself trapped inside of a sixteen-year-old girl’s body with very little memory of the last moments of his life. All he knows is that he only has a few moments before he is invisible and voiceless again and he needs to use each second wisely to figure out what is going on with him.
“See Me” by Susan Hatler is about two teenagers, one who feels invisible to her parents, peers, and teachers while the other is literally invisible to everyone except Amy. They only have a few days to figure out what is really going on and they only have a handful of people who will even believe in what Amy is trying to say. There is apart of me that wants to go back and reread this book cause I feel like I might have missed a few things, but I think that is one of the things that make a book great!
This was more like a 3.5 book, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading it! I grabbed it because it sounded promising and unlike anything I had ever read before, considering that I'm not much of a YA paranormal romance reading type. However, I got completely sucked in and by the time I finished reading it, I found myself thinking that I did not regret putting it higher on my priority list than other books that I've been meaning to read, like, forever.
I really enjoyed the writing, it wasn't over-embellished, and I immensely appreciated the sarcastic tone that sometimes seemed to seep through the dialogues between the characters. I had the distinct feeling that this story did not take itself very seriously, and that had such an appeal to me, that I can't even! The characters were loveable, though it took me a while to warm up to them, but when I did, I found myself rooting for them with all my might. Amy was quirky, like a teenage warrior queen (maybe I'm exaggerating, but meh...), and Jonathan was a multi-faceted character, just like a wandering spirit should be, I guess. They all had multiple sides to them, and I liked that so much.
What I didn't like, though, was that "military" part going on towards the end, which confused me and made me ask myself if I'm reading the same book. It didn't annoy me as much as it should have, but still... I didn't find it relevant to the story. Something HAD to give us, readers, chills and thrills, I guess, so that's that.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel, it was part cute, part scary, part serious, part sarcasm, and I found it to be quite fast-paced. I do recommend it, but only to those who are intrigued by its synopsis and read weirdish YA novels on a regular basis. One thing I can guarantee: you won't have time to get bored. :)
Firstly I need to tell you, the book cover was stunning. Top notch.
However, sadly that is the last good thing I am going to tell you. I was excited to read this story, it sounded like it was going to have great potential. Alas though when it came to the race, the story just couldn’t make it.
I am still living by my new philosophy of life is to short to read books you don’t want to read, and this is the third one this year to strike me so.
Firstly the main character I found to be a pain. She did not make a good book journey companion, and half the time I just wanted to tell her to shh. The ghost aspect of this story is muddied from the start when she dives straight into the supernatural. There is no fun transition, and no build up to the change in her world. She literally goes from normal to haunted in a page which left me feeling unfulfilled and bored. Also not to mention her reaction to thinking she is being haunted. All this talk of her friends knowing exactly what to do because they were this kind of smart or that kind of smart felt stale and silly.
When we do finally meet our resident ghost, I was already so sick of the main character that the book lost its momentum and I didn’t care about this kid either. Plus extra pet peeve (you guys know how I get) the fact she kept referring to him as Zombie really annoyed me.
Will I be continuing on with the series? No. Especially since I couldn’t even finish the first one. Would I recommend it to others? No, I wouldn’t.
"See Me" is a book of two halves and I almost gave up on it thinking that it was all going to be a fairly typical popular girl at high school kind of story. Amy has a date with Alex. She's fancied him for ages and is getting ready for her dream date with her two BFFs when one of them takes out a Ouija board to see how the date will go. Amy connects with a spirit and it won't let her go.
At this point I was on the verge of giving up on the story. It all felt a bit too predictable and while I like supernatural stories I'm not a fan of The Walking Dead or Zombie stories.
It is worth persevering with the book and getting to the crux of the story. Amy soon discovers that the spirit belongs to Jonathan Miller. A teenager who had died in a car accident the previous week. Amy decides to help Jonathan find out what happened and becomes drawn into a complex tale as they try to reunite him with a body, his body.
It is a sweet story and the characters become very likeable. I really enjoyed it as a stand alone book. I note from the title above that it is the first in a series which I'm not so sure about but this is a good read.

A “chocolate chip” read. No real substance but it’s a tasty treat. The “zhost” thing is a clever idea, if awkward at times, and it’s fun. See Me is an easy, cute, entertaining book that won’t knock your socks off but will make you smile.
See Me (Zombie Love Book 1) by Susan Hatler is a young adult paranormal, romance novel about Amy. One night Amy is getting ready for a date with her BFF’s Nicole and Brynne. One of girls decided it would be fun to consult a Ouija board regarding Amy’s date. Unfortunately, the Ouija board attracted the spirit of Jonathan. Jonathan follows Amy around until suddenly he manages to oust Amy’s soul from her body and take it over. Thus ensues a hilarious adventure of Amy finding out what happened to Jonathan and how to help him. See Me is a cute and quirky book. It has romance, spirits, and humor. I truly enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

I loved reading See Me so so very much. I was hooked from the first page and couldn't stop reading until the end. It's such a good and addicting story. It's funny, it's cute and towards the end, I was crying my eyes out (the ending is perfect, btw). :)
Amy and her friends are playing Ouigi board and they might have summoned an actual ghost. Now Amy, a junior in high school, can feel a presence, someone is next to her a lot. That kind of complicates things, when the most popular guy in school asks her out, of course, the ghost follows her. Sick of it, she confronts him. The only way he can talk to her is to possess her. She decides to help him, but the truth is very different from what they both believe.
I received this VIA NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Brilliant, Marvelous, Wonderful! Such a beautiful well written story! If I could give this story more than 5 stars, I would. Oh my gosh. This book made me laugh my butt off, made me dang near have a panic attack, made me cry. So many emotions. But it was all worth it!
YA novel, with action, drama, sci-fi, and paranormal romance. A page turner, with twists and turns, kept me guessing until the end. The teenage angst was there, but there was an eye-opening moment at the end when some of that angst against parents was put to rest. Wish more of this type of fiction did that. Some very touching moments, and many hilarious moments. Probably my favorite scene was at her best friend's house trying to convince her dad to help them. Hilarious! It was a great adventure to read. Thank you Susan Hatler for writing such a great book.
fun, silly, energetic. about a 16 year old girl, Amy determined to help bring alive a ghost that suddenly comes into her life. well paced, all likeable characters even when the lead is able to think just one step ahead or the step they're in.
there's also a common feeling among many of the kids of feeling invisible.
"He’d been zombied."
"His mouth dropped open. “Are you saying you mistook a demon trying to possess you with having the hots for me?” “I never said I was perfect.” I shrugged."
