This book is not about Yasmin. This book is about you. And about inspiring you. Because whenever we asked Yasmin how she'd like to be remembered after she dies, she'd say that she would like to be remembered for her work. And if people forget who did the work, then it's even better.
In here are Yasmin's earliest handwritten thoughts she so generously shared with us (her family and friends) decades before anything came out of it. Tiny sparks of ideas. And bits of her humble, non-film work. "Irritatingly optimistic" was how Yasmin described herself, despite the unspeakably harsh difficulties she lived through. "God blesses each one of us with the same amount of talent, albeit in unique ways — but we need to korek for it" she insists. God willing, this inspires you to korek for what you are specially blessed with. And make the best of it too.
That humble and full of love Yasmin Ahmad. So in love with this book as much as I love Yasmin How You Know?. This book taught me a lot of good stuff, a reminiscing memories of Yasmin Ahmad throughout her life, those fond memorable incidents remembered by her colleagues, friends and family. Loving all her quotes, and written words and musings be it for her works or just plain conversation between two hearts-- uplifting and fascinating. What struck me the most was probably on how Yasmin treated other people around her with so much respect and care, she never judged, only happy thoughts and 'bersangka baik'.
Yasmin I Lup Chew was a mindful book, a written precious that will touch and tickle your fragile heart with so much poetic ridiculous.
"I love you. And love is an understatement." "Whenever I was having a crush, or going through a heartbreak, Yasmin would give me a hug and say, I lup chew." "Don't disappear. Disappearing is easy to do. Keeping in touch is hard."
Very eye-catchy and fancy. For someone who is not that fond of non-fiction genre, this surely could fit into my favorite shelf, melting my heart and soul with her dust of magic.
"How sad it is that I'm so charming. Not pretty, or beautiful, or sweet, or anything remotely resembling a feminine thing, but just charming. What if tomorrow, while I'm sitting perfectly still, someone should love me of his own free will?"
Always love yourself for whatever it is, and "...forgive everyone who has hurt you today."
"She taught me integrity and love, to fill each day with fun, to see goodness in everything, and to find reasons, no matter how small, to celebrate life. She instilled in me the professional values that I still hold dearly and stubbornly. She made me craft my work over and over again. She gave my heart a good workout, because she made it thump, flutter, sink, float, skip, break and mend."
Packed with some of the most beautiful life advice. Simple yet excellently honest. There is so much we can learn from Yasmin. Al-Fatihah untuk Yasmin. Semoga Tuhan cucuri rahmat ke atas ruh-nya.
Well crafted book. The susunan, starts with personal excerpts from Yasmin herself, including scritps, poems, and anecdotes. Then, a compilation of notes from everyone close to her. I cried when reading all the lunches, all the movies, all plans and angan angan yang tak sempat dibuat after her passing. We definitely lost a big star and a good person. I love her way of thinking and her way of doing things, especially how she promotes to do things not by head but by heart. Such a kind person she was, especially to her parents. And very lucky of her to have such supportive parents. Make me want to rewatch all her movies again. Maybe i should binge all of them next weekend as it will be long weekend.
May she be in a good place now, di dakapan Tuhan Yang Maha Esa. Al Fatihah.
I Lap Chew, Yasmin!
ps: i went for an Aquaria date before. Then i asked that guy whether he want to go Kinokuniya with me. He said yes. Then while we were looking at books, he went for Maghrib i remembered he said, u nak me time kan sebenarnya? Lol. Sekembalinya dia, i was reading this book on the floor and he joined me readinga book entitled Educate by Tara Westower. After finish reading this book, we talked about what we read. It was like some of best moments in life, i shall say. But, it feels like Dejavu when with him. He's a nice guy, a good listener and even know things i didn't say out loud walaupun baru kenal kejap. Although that, i bailed. Sebab Dejavu, i have fear. Sometimes terfikir jugak did i made the right decision? Life's like that when you're over 30 and still looking. You looked with fear. Then, you bailed out. You bailed out bad.
I always suka dengan Yasmin Ahmad since I was a kid. How she portrays agama always in the kindest way ever. Bersangka baik sangatla penting regardless of race. I really think everyone should read any books that related to her and watch her movies. You can see people around her always talk fondly about her. I guess, if you bersangka baik dengan Tuhan, manusia sekeliling you pun akan buat benda yang sama.
So much to reminisce about a person…and all these words in the book stem from her act of stepping back from the spotlight to simply just be…her. And what a bliss! What a privilege it is for us to have a peek of who she was as a human! So full of life, of laughter, of empathy…
Thank you so much yasmin for being an important presence in everyones lives, so they could share and pass down your wisdoms to people like me. You will always be remembered.

Yasmin Ahmad is one of those souls you could love without having to know her personally. Because she is so full of love it beams through memories of those she has met. Another wonderful book on Yasmin that i will forever cherish. May she rest in the eternal abode of heaven, among the most beloved by God Almighty, amin.
As a fan of the late Yasmin Ahmad's work, I am very grateful that this book was made and that the people who have had the pleasure of her company so generously shared their precious memories with us.
It’s like walking into a mind of Yasmin, it’s like getting to know her on a personal level. It’s such a light read and something I can pick up, flip a page, and read.
