A complimentary audio was provided in exchange for an honest review.

I am conflicted about this story. Overall I enjoyed it. There are parts though that are beyond ridiculous and dramatic. Lets start with the good/fun stuff first. :)

The meeting aka hot coffee meets strangers shirt. When Jules bumps in to Hunter and spills his coffee on him, in an effort to appease the (good looking) stranger he gives Hunter his favorite sweatshirt. Hunter is of course a jerk and Jules fears his sweatshirt is lost forever.

When Jules sees Hunter in school, wearing his sweatshirt like he owns it (the nerve!), Jules marches over and asks for his sweatshirt back. Of course Hunter says no, and a few other choice words besides, and Jules is left staring after him and wondering what he should do.

Their relationship gets off to a rocky start. Hunter is an out and proud bi-sexual, and has someone locking lips with him at every turn. For whatever reason, Jules - despite thinking Hunter is a jerk - can't stop thinking about him. He doesn't recognize his feelings for what they are until much later and after a few events take place.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story approaching the 50% mark. Seeing Hunter and Jules argue and tease each other, and at times touching each other for various reasons, I couldn't help but smile and think they were simply adorable. I don't want to spoil the story. I'll just reiterate that things happen between Jules and Hunter, between Jules and his girlfriend, and Jules and his friends that helps Jules see what his feelings for Hunter are all about.

Just as their relationship is taking off and they are really becoming a couple, dramaville arrives in the form of a spiteful, vindictive, teenage horror known as Valerie, Vanessa? Crap, Veronica? Ugh, okay, I am blanking on her name - lets just call her V. Anyway, V is NOT a nice person and outs Jules to his family. In essence doing a sort of reverse blackmail to keep Jules and Hunter apart. She is Jules's parents spy and will report any contact between Jules and Hunter to Jules's parents. See, V was with Hunter very briefly and when he stopped wanting to hang out with her and be with Jules, she couldn't handle it. In an effort to get Hunter back (which is a stupid way to go about it), she thinks forcing them apart and being mean will win Hunter over.

I couldn't stand this turn of events. The plot here didn't make sense; it was added for what felt like drama for dramas sake. As if being a teenager in high school isn't hard enough, lets add negligent parents and a real vindictive B to the mix, and toss in being gay and only just realizing it.

In the mix of all this drama, Jules learns

To back up a little, V, once again in an effort to get Hunter to want her,

There is more drama to this story, but I don't feel like going in to all of it. The good news is these two finally get their heads on straight and manage to be together. Despite all their troubles in getting together, they are finally a couple living together with no more barriers between them. It's not clear what happens to V, she just disappears. We do know what happens with Jules's parents (broadly) and it's good.

I did leave out a very large detail of this story and I debated mentioning it, but I decided to after all because it is a possible trigger for some readers. I was shocked when I learned this fact and was not pleased to see it had deliberately been kept hidden.

Despite the drama surrounding this story (and there is a lot I didn't mention), there are several light moments to between Jules and Hunter's friends. They all hook up! :D It's sweet to see Nate and Alexis get together. Nate is Jules's best friend and Jules enjoyed watching Nate blush and stutter. Me too! :) Then there is Red who works at the coffee shop with Jules and she is involved with I think the owner. So much romance floating around it felt like it was Valentines.

Would I recommend this? Depends on the reader. Overall, yes, I would recommend this because it had a lot of good things going for it. The drama didn't really ruin the story for me - it just made me mad when it happened. This book won't be for every though, so I would suggest people use their best judgement and know their tastes.

Narration: The voice is not that of a teenage boy and that I didn't like. Aside from that, the narrator did an excellent job and really acted out these scenes very VERY well. I love when a narrator can make me forget I am listening to a book and not watching a movie or something. I would listen to this narrator again. And despite his voice not matching the age of the characters, I would highly recommend the audio because it was well produced and I believe greatly enhanced my enjoyment of the story.

Story 3 stars
Narration 4.5 stars.

Read this book on wattpad. I read it in the car till I felt sick, I read it till my eyes burned and I was sure I was going to fail that math test.
Long story short: I really liked this book. I don't often come across 'boyxboy' stories on wattpad that feature a healthy relationship and a bad boy that isn't an abusive shit, but this one was great. Supportive friendships and relationships were put in great contrast with unhealthy ones.

(I must add that I liked both "Never Kiss Your Roommate" and "For The Camera" a bit more than this one, but that doesn't change the fact that I really liked this one, and would recommend it for someone who's looking for a cute - but also quite serious at some points - story about two boys that fall in love and how they deal with life.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The plot is stunning, the characters are all amazing, just every single detail about this entire book is perfect. The way that the plot was laid out wasn't a typical "guy meets guy, they hate each other for approximately two chapters, then suddenly they're having tons of sex until a cheesy epilogue where they're married with a kid or two." It clearly has a ton of love, time, and effort laced into every single word. Also, each character has a special place in my heart, because of the fact that their personalities are all so genuine and realistic, which is so rare in books nowadays. I've read this book more times than I can even count, and I plan on buying the book the moment it comes out and reading it more again. Even the author of this book is absolutely one of the most lovely people I have ever interacted with in my life, and I truly adore her from the bottom of my heart. I really do hope that this book gets just as much love and attention as it deserves.

Ughhh. This book had so much promise but totally went off the rails with over the top drama in the last quarter or so.

I loved Hunter and Jules. I loved their slow burn. I loved Jules’ sexual discovery. Jules and Hunter had that first love sweetness that’s so infectious and endearing in YA novels. I didn’t even mind the lack of steam. Also, lots of great secondary characters. So many awesome things going on here. Unfortunately, there were just way to many drama llamas dragging down the story.

Let’s address Jules’ parents first. They were definitely annoying as fuck, but at least believable. Lots of kids do experience horrible coming outs; with parents who will do anything to change them. This storyline was a bummer, but to be expected given their behavior throughout the book.

Now the second and biggest soul sucker of the book was Hunter’s ex-girlfriend who was just inexplicably obsessed with Hunter and would do anything to ruin Jules’ life and their relationship. It was some serious Single White Female behavior.
- sending videos to Jules’ parents to out him against his will
- Spying on him at school, work, and parties to report back to his parents if he speaks to Hunter
- Spying on his friends so that they can’t explain to Hunter what’s going on
- Physically and verbally bullying him daily in school
- Blackmailing Hunter into spending time and being physical with her
- !!!PRETENDING TO BE PREGNANT WITH HUNTER’S CHILD!!!

Like, I’m sorry. It’s just too much. The only thing separating her from a soap opera villain was kidnapping Jules’ and faking his death. 🙄

I really wanted to love this, and a lot of people did so if you just love angst for the sake of angst then check this one out. There were a lot of good things going on, and I did love about 75% of the book. I’m gonna end this on a positive note though with my favorite part of the book. They really were quite sweet together.

“You feel so much better than stupid car races and fights and getting drunk at house parties.”
“You say that now.”
“And I’ll still say it in a few weeks and months and years.”

DNF at 52%. There are many problems with this book. The dialogue throughout is stilted and doesn't feel like a real person would say it; it needs a really good edit - it is soooo long. I don't understand why this is getting such good ratings, it's a mediocre first draft at best.

*I have a migraine because of this story. Going to take something and knock TF out.

There are 193 ratings on this book and majority is in the 5+ range, so I’m thinking maybe this is one of those hidden gem books that hasn’t been noticed by the public yet...

Okay, so first off don’t take the words of the 5 star ratings. Maybe they read a different version lol

The main reason why I rated it 2 star is because of the inconsistency throughout the book:

- It begins with Jules running into A guy (Hunter) with his coffee, ruining his shirt and so Jules took off his sweater for him to wear. The next day Jules is talking to his best friend, Nate about the incident but had no idea who the guy was. Apparently, the guy is the most popular guy in school, out and proud Bi that sleeps with everyone but Jules didn’t know? I just thought that was a little weird considering he was just this Uber popular dude and his BFF new all this information on Hunter.

- Jules working at a bar (he’s only 17), so he can buy this camera he really wants blah blah blah (which by the way we never hear of ever again about him wanting a camera). He serves alcohol to teens his age (and nobody says a thing?) and his boss is abusive (also, nobody says a thing?).

- Again, with the alcohol. Throughout the book they go to bars and nobody blinks an eye? So maybe I’m thinking well I live in the states, so when I read a book I automatically think it’s somewhere in the states until said otherwise (which I don’t think we actually find out where they are), anyways here in the states the legal drinking age is 21. These teens are 17-18 and earlier in story they called each other mates and later in the book they said snogging. We American’s don’t use those terms. So I’m thinking ‘Okay, so they are Aussie? Or the UK?’ Forgive me for the lack of geography (never was my best subject lol). And I know some countries the legal age is 18. But then Hunter had a random girl in a market buy them alcohol, so they weren’t of legal age..

- Jules And Emily been dating for a year and never had sex but said I love yous. Then they finally had sex and a few days later he breaks up with her for Hunter and apparently she’s all okay with it?!! Maybe I’m just petty AF but WTF? I’d have his balls in my hand. After waiting a year and finally having sex and THEN decide ‘oh I never really loved you and I like this dude now but thanks for the hookup’ (he didn’t say that).

- About 75% in the book we find out he had an older brother... :/

- Victoria.
What in God’s green earth did the author possess to make such a character as Victoria? Her character was off the wall. Who in their right mind would go as such and SPY and follow someone around just so he can’t have a boyfriend? And then make someone company you cause if they don’t then you’ll tell his bf’s parents lies. WTF? Apparently she’s the most popular girl in school but she seemed to ha e no friends and no brain for that matter. I didn’t get her character at all.

- Hunter. At first he was this bad boy, and then turned annoying, and then turned lovestruck, and then turned into some wuss? His character development was wack. All over the place.

IN SHORT:
Over all I think the blurb was better than the story itself. The author threw random shit and unnecessary drama to have drama. 622 pages could have been cut to 300 pages. Half of the story was so random and things were out of place and again unnecessary.

I’ll leave on a friendlier note (since this is basically a bad review lol). In regards towards Hunter, he was very sweet to Jules. Which I thought was cute. He did take care of him. Their relationship was cute with the bangers.

Outstanding! Great Story! Great Audible Listen🎧

Why You Shouldn't Lend a Bad Boy Your Clothes
A Young Adult Romance Novel
By: Philline Harms
Narrated by: Maxwell Zener

I adored this book, it is a great young adult novel, heartfelt and entertaining. Philline Harms is a new to me author, I did not look her up until after I finished the book. I was amazed to find she is a young adult herself, well that kind of explains how she captured the essence of teenage living so well. To publish a novel at 17 years old is a great accomplishment, especially one that is so good. This book is 15 hours long and it engrossed me from start to end. The storylines and characters are interesting and well developed. I loved how she was able to bring us along side the characters, inside their heads, to learn how they felt and what they were going through. It saddens me, that to this day people shun their own kids because of their sexuality, whether it be for religious reasons or just plain homophobic hate. Hello, it is 2019, acceptance is key to living a healthy, happy life, hate only destroys. OK, off my soap box and back to the story. I really liked Jules Hatcher and his best friends Nate and Emily. I loved how Jules and Hunter 1st met and how the author came up with her title. Also loved the chemistry between them. I really felt bad for Jules and the treatment he received from his parents. I did not care for the over the top antics and bullying he received from Victoria or the power Jules’ parents gave her to hold over him and Hunter. Were his parents so blind they could not see thru her lies? I can say the three things that annoyed me in this book, Jules’ Mom, Dad and Victoria, made a great team of ignorant and narcissistic idiots. IMO. I highly recommend this book, it has lots of drama, angst, some laughs and lot of emotions. Thanks for this great story Philline Harms, I hope this is a start to a long writing career, you are gifted and have a way with words.

I listened to the Audible edition, Maxwell Zener is a wonderful narrator and voice performer. He performs the voices of all the characters bringing each to life with their own voice and personality. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for this great listen🎧

The premise of the story is what attracted me to it, the blurb sounded delightful "shy boy gets hoodie stolen by hot guy, tries to get it back and falls in love." But I was sorely disappointed after a few pages, because the plot is riddled with inconsistencies. For example, Jules doesn't know who Hunter is, even though Hunter is supposed to be arguably the hottest, most popular guy in their high school, not only because he's hot, but because he is openly bisexual and dates football players in their school, and how could a guy who openly dates his high school football players, NOT BE FAMOUS IN THEIR SCHOOL?! It would be practically impossible for any student not to know Hunter, especially in a small town. The only way to explain Jules' ignorance would be that Jules is brand new in town and doesn't know anyone, but this explanation doesn't work, because Jules has lived there all his life. Another example of inconsistency is that the first part of the book is written in American English, then switches to British English, which was a very jarring change, especially in the audiobook version, since the narrator narrates the story in American English exclusively. It doesn't improve at any point. Jules is boring and unlikable, he's been dating his best friend for a whole year, has sex with her even though he KNOWS he's not attracted to her and that he is very much physically attracted to Hunter, yet he still acts immaturely and indecisively. Hunter is also boring, he's one big cliche, hot guy who bangs EVERYTHING in sight, but somehow has always been secretly interested in Jules, so much so that he drives by Jules' house in the middle of the night all the time in the hopes of catching a glimpse. I was bored, confused at times and thought it was a waste of time. It could have been a really good story, if the author had a team of editors that pointed out all the inconsistencies, and helped develop the characters out of being cliches. I haven't even made myself finish the book, which is rare for me.

Incredible

Incredible, as in not to be believed. The blurb and premise were the only positive things about the book. Otherwise it was impossible to suspend disbelief as I stumbled from one inconsistency to the next. A brief rundown of the confusion includes:

The under aged main character working at a bar serving alcohol to underaged high school students only as a vehicle to establish a momentary tender connection with the bad boy. The main character later quits the job and nothing is mentioned of the job again.

The main character has never met the bad boy before yet the bad boy lives just a few houses away at the end of the block in a house that the main character acts as if he’s never seen before. Furthermore, the bad boy is established to be one of the most popular kids in the school.

After establishing that the school year has begun just a few days ago the main character is surprised to find the bad boy in one of his classes. In that class the teacher introduces himself as if it is the first day of school and immediately assigns all of the students to share tents with strangers on an upcoming camping trip. Of course the main character and the bad boy are assigned to share the same tent. Permission slips and adult supervision are nonexistent.

Every chapter piles on more confusing inconsistencies along with poor choices in character development. All of the characters lack heart and believability.

The author shows no knowledge of how schools work or how boys behave and think. The main character and the bad boy are totally unbelievable and cliché. The author wisely chose to change her name for the audiobook from the Kindle version. Sadly, this does not allow her to escape such a poorly written story.

But you have a chance. Skip this book and move on.

(audiobook) Considering it was written by a teenager, it wasn’t that bad. Sure, it needed some work–to eliminate clichés, to flesh out the characters, to edit some unnecessary plot points… But the base was interesting. The idea of a relationship between the introvert artist and the flaming bad boy isn’t new but it makes for a compelling story.

The first half is mostly high school shenanigans, with Jules discovering his sexuality. That’s also when he starts various friendships that will become important in the rest of the story.

Then it’s big drama and frankly, it was a bit too much. It almost felt like it was written for shock value. Sure, it also deepens Hunter and Jules’s relationship, but the author didn’t need to push it so far. Same with the villains–they’re cartoon characters with motivations as serious as conquering the world.

The narration was okay, and it sure helped getting through the story. I’d say it would be an interesting book for a teenager, it falls flat with older readers.

Quickie

- Series: standalone
- Hashtags: #MM romance #young adult #opposites attract #artist #bad boy #bisexual
- Triggers: blatant homophobia and biphobia, some assault, parental abuse, mention of suicide, bullying, cheating
- Main couple: Jules Hatcher & Hunter Adams
- Hotness: 1/5
- Romance: 3/5
- + it was nice to read about an introvert hero
- – so many clichés, but I guess it was expected from a teen writer

Absolutely love this book. I read it on Wattpad maybe 2 or 3 years ago now, right when the author had begun posting it. It may have had only a couple of chapters up when I first begun reading it. Whenever it was updated I dropped everything I was doing to read it and I revelled in the beauty of the writing, the relationships between the characters. This book made me cry, sigh, groan, squeal and miss sleep. This book is wonderful and everyone should read it, along with Never Kiss Your Roommate and For The Camera.

I also have a friend who never reads, I think she read a few books as a kid but that’s it. Except for this book. I’m still not sure how but I got her to read it and I have not seen her so glued to her phone before. She barely talked because all she wanted to do was read it. I remember her grabbing my arm and almost screaming in my ear whenever something would happen, whether a relationship hit a milestone something bad happened that ruined everything. When I texted asking her if she was enjoying the book she replied “I bloody love it! I’m up to chapter 4 at the moment ahha don’t read a lot as u know but it’s a good read when I do” then when she finished it she told me she loved it, it gave her confidence and it was the best book she’d ever read, she stayed up all night finishing it.

How do you know he is a bad boy?:

The living environment of kids has a bigger influence on them then genes, but friends are the biggest influence.

Jules has a rough time dealing with his home environment, which had caused him to virtually shut down physically and emotionally. Until he spills his coffee on Hunter.

Hunter is rumoured to be a bad boy, but he just has a different way of dealing with his family environment, because he has virtually none. No one has been able to crack his protective she'll until Jules spills coffee on him. But instead of just blowing it off,, Jules gives the hoodie off his back to Hunter even though it is his favorite hoodie.

As school for senior year disrupts the lives of their friends, Hunter is determined to win Jules over instead of just a short fling with no commitment as he has always done. This brings changes to everyone until Jules parents find out about Hunter and lock up Jules away from him.

Love conquers all, but it is never simple or easy. Fortunately Hunter takes his time to rock Jules world. A few evil students make life miserable until they get stuck with their baby.

This is a story of young love saving lives, but not without hurtful and hateful events, jealousy, lies, deception, cheating, and family breakup. Love and friendships conquer in the end as Prom brings relief to all.

Like most others I read this book originally on wattpad. I'm not much of a reader as I quickly came to never use the app but I did always come back for this book. When I found out it got published I was quick to buy it, while I didn't get a physical copy I always keep it bookmarked on my laptop to read when ever. I've read this about three time over the span of three years and it never really fails to impress me. Despite of what I prefer to write or read about this is a really compelling book that captures you every chapter with twists and turns that you always have to just keep reading. The book didn't age perfectly as I've become more mature in what I read and as crazy of a love story like this is, it's a breath of fresh air to read. Maybe it's me or my nostalgia talking but this book is amazing and I am definitely will be reading it again sometime soon. I aspire to be a film director and to adapt this into a tv series to anything along those lines would be perfect, maybe I'll be able to make that dream come true and you'll hear of me again. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing story and for anyone checking review to see if it's worth anything, it is, a lot, so please invest your time in this amazing book. x

I really liked the premise of the story and enjoyed it up until a point.

Some cute moments but too many inconsistencies and in serious need of an editor.

First of all I couldn't tell if the characters were supposed to be American, British or whatever they were supposed to be. Some part of the story felt like American English but the author would use words like mate, snogging and "go back mine" lol

Hunter was supposed to be a really popular bisexual guy who hooked up with football players etc but Jules had no idea who he was until he bumped into him and told his friend about it? How the hell is that even possible?

Victoria and Sean? What type of psychopathic behavior? Absolutely ridiculous!

Jules parents.

This story was just exhausting. There was no need for this to be 600+ pages long.

After realizing the author is a 17 year old German girl I feel like an asshole but whatever. This book pissed me off because I enjoyed it until about halfway through. 😑

5 stars marked down to 4.5 for reasons i will get to later. I Borrowed this jem on kindle unlimited and was not for one minute disappointed, which says allot for our young author as i normally find the teen/young adult genre to be tedious but THIS was by far the best work ive read in quite some time
The characters were all so wonderfully written and fun
our "villainess" Victoria made lifetime movie bunny boilers look like mother Theresa (like seriously that bitch was one sick ticket)
Our "bad boy" hunter was swoon worthy and the "goody goody" julian was so adorable with a heart of gold. The friends were all so great, especially Emily who so was sweet and pure.

My only beef was that to me the mother got a redemption arc way to easy along with some grammar issues though still did better than me lol.
In all i hope to read more from Philline in the future

My sister recommended this book to me on Wattpad, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I binge-read this book in a good 2 days so I could get here and write this review.

Wonderful couldn’t even begin to describe this story. The storyline is plain, clear, and simple while also presenting a level of complexity. What really hits the home run in the book are the characters. The characters are well fleshed out from beginning to end. Such a common problem in today’s society is well-presented in this heartfelt novel.

I would take me a little while, but I could write a good few pages about how emotionally touching and well written this book truly is.

I would highly recommend this book to a person that is bored out of their minds and wants to feel some form of emotion.

I can not even put into words all the things this book made me feel. It made me laugh and it made me sob my eyes out. Everything about this book is perfect. The characters? Perfect. The plot? Perfect. The detail? Perfect. There has never been a book like this one and I doubt that there ever will be. This book is truly a gift to anyone who has the chance to read it. I plan to recommend this book to everyone I know, multiple times, till they have to read it. I seriously this book gets the recognition it deserves.

This book has been one of my favorite LGBT+ books so far. I love how the characters are portrayed and how their feelings are described so well. This book has made me feel a lot of things because of how unique it is. The way that the author has writen the book makes you feel as if you're present in the book. This book will remain one of my faves and I think that the author should continue doing this amazing job that she does. ❤

It's an amazing story. I read the book and it was so good that I had to read it again and again. I love the personality each character has and how much I can relate to them. You never know what person can make a huge impact on your life and that with just one mistake your future will change not just for you,but for others as well. I definitely recommend this story.

To keep this simple, this is one of the best books I've read! Not only on Wattpad but in books in general. I've read this book 4 times now, start to finish, word for word. It contains Humor, enough romance do make you feel giddy inside, and most importantly it has well established characters that are relatable and likable. I'm excited to see a well deserving book being published!
