Okay...This was a charming story, better than the first one, and headed for 4 stars.
However, it took a turn toward the end that completely ruined the merry mood for me. And while it quickly picked back up, the story was already at its end, so there was no recuperating from Mrs. Spencer’s negative attitude. She basically went from, “I refuse to believe any of this crap” to “Yes, I’ll marry you” in a matter of a few paragraphs - if that.
Another thing that bugged me, but I was willing to overlook, was the children’s speech patterns - Chris’ in particular. She’s 10! So why does she sound like she’s 7 in one scene and 27 in another?
Anyway, the story itself is adorable. It is a bit weird and rushed at the end, but cute nonetheless.
Jell- Widower in Montana with a about 10 yr old daughter Tamara- widow in Texas with a 10 yr old daughter. Historical western I enjoyed reading this intriguing story that is fantastically written with lovable characters and witty dialogue/plot. Their story has a sweet and magical HEA.
I'm all about a good mystical matchmaker book set at Christmastime. Can't get enough of them. This was a cute plot idea. The little girls were reminiscent of Anne and Diana of Green Gables fame. And I liked the adult characters well enough though you don't really get to know any other than the main couple. The problem I had was time period. It doesn't state what year this is but they travel by train and she teaches in a one room school with 8 grades so that gives some hints. I assumed we were looking at Little House on the Prairie type time period. I don't read that many books from this era set in America so I spent a good deal of time wondering if there would be as much talk of Santa, the man in red, Rudolf, the North Pole, the naughty list etc. in this time as there was in this book. It glared at me enough to go back to look a couple of times to see if I missed the date. And some dialogue brought the same kind of questions. Would a woman in this time complain that her in-laws didn't understand her need to work outside her home? Yes, she was the breadwinner now so it was necessary but it sounded more like a feminist desire for fulfillment rather than financial need. Sounded too much like a modern idea to me. Then some phrases like, "Let's rock this Christmas celebration" and the use of "drama queen" just sounded out of place. And their first kiss is on the dance floor in public? Was that acceptable behavior in that time? And what might be the biggest one, he invites her and her daughter to spend the night at his ranch on Christmas Eve. That would totally cast doubt on her reputation and back in the one room school days a teacher had to have a good reputation to keep her job. Some were not even allowed to have a suitor at all. So was this set in a much more modern time than I realized or is the more modern stuff just out of place? Either way it totally distracted me from the cute storyline thus taking away from the enjoyment of reading the book. It is totally insta-love so beware if you don't like that trope. They are engaged in a matter of days. Of course that Christmas magic matchmaking may have had everything to do with that.
This is the story of Tamara and Chris Spencer who travel to Montana by train so that Tamara can substitute teach in the school there while the regular teacher takes care of his mother in New York. Tamara's husband died a year ago but was from this country and had planned to take his wife and child there before his death. There is an old lady dressed up in red and white who says she is a matchmaker and wants to help Tamara find love. What do Tamara and Chris find in Livingston, Montana? Are they accepted by the towns people? Does Tamara find love? There is mystery, danger and romance with Christmas magic in this book. I give it 5 stars and recommend it to everyone.
Match Maker – Mrs. Claus – next project? A young widowed mother and a rancher? When Tamara receives the plaid reindeer ornament gift that swirls with Christmas magic and hints that she will find her new love wearing plaid, the hunt begins. Trouble is – Joel does not wear plaid - ever. Both daughters, Chris and Annie, join forces to investigate the clues but discover obstacles’ suggesting their parents are not the pairing the Match Maker has in mind. From an elf to a reindeer, and eventually, to the whole Claus family, the couple must face the past if they are to move forward.
Warm and nice story. A touch of mystery added to the "Christmas Spirit."
A second chance at love for Tamara and Joel? If anyone deserves to find love again it is Tamara and Joel, both widowed they are amazing parents to their girls, which warms your heart and has you hoping they are brave enough to open their hearts to the magic of Christmas and the possibility of love. Annie and Chris are very cute, vivacious girls who will steal your heart within minutes of meeting them. This is a fantastic multi author Christmas series, this is book two which is a free download at present, as is book one, the other 28 books in the series are available on Kindle Unlimited.
Similar review to book one. I'm not a fan of Mrs. Claus being the matchmaker but enjoyed many other parts of the Christmas romance! My favorite aspect was that it was a historical book! I also loved the girls and her being a teacher! Usually teachers lost their jobs in the Old West, but this topic doesn't come up. Maybe his position on the school board makes a difference?
A meeting with Mrs Claus on the train starts this adventure!
This is a wonderful story of Christmas magic and two lonely families. This is the first story by Marlene Bierworth I have read, but certainly will not be the last! She writes about delightful characters with a little mystery! You will adore this adventure!
When Tamara received a gift that says ‘Love wears plaid’ for Christmas she’s curious. But why is almost every man wearing plaid but not Joel, the man who got her and her daughter’s attention? What will Santa do to bring them together to be happy family? I enjoyed this but it was just a little bit to unbelievable for me.
Heartwarming historical fiction Western Christmas story. Appropriate as a YA book also. Although a wee bit too whimsical for my preferences, it is perfect for those of all ages seeking a shorter story with a feel-good ending. Some confusion with the spellings of Claus(e) and 'manage vs mange', but that can be easily corrected with editing if necessary.....
I love reading this series, even when it is written around Christmas and it is summer now. This time Mrs Claus is playing matchmaker to Tamara and her daughter Chris with Joel and his daughter Annie. Full of the normal magic, hope and a touch of faith it is an ideal way of cheering yourself up in these strange times.
This is a delightful story of sadness, new beginnings, wishes and dreams, with an all around happy ending. My husband commented, " Must be a good one, I'm enjoying watching your smiles!"
I think every beginning teacher could pick up useful ideas in classroom management!! And some not so new!
What could be better than a whole bunch of Christmas magic? This story was fast paced with lots of excitement . I already have the next two books of this set waiting!
While this was well-written, it did not grab my attention like the first book of this series. It felt a bit forced in places, while other parts flowed seamlessly. I love happy endings, which this book bives.
A really great Christmas series that has it all, Mrs Claus as a matchmaker, elves and reindeer. It all makes for a sweet read. I loved the story and the characters.
This is such a cute Christmas story! The children are so cute and will have you laughing. I like how sweet the romance was, this is such a feel good Christmas story complete with Mrs. Clause, elf and reindeer!
This historical western book by Marlene Bierworth is a nice, lighthearted look at Christmas through the eyes of children and two lonely people who have lost their spouses. Trust and being open to love a second time are both themes in this book. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it.
This is a cute Christmas story. Neither Mrs. Spencer or Mr. Parker are looking for love. Tamara moves to Montana for a short term teaching job and Joel is on the school board. Their girls are kindred spirits. I won't spoil the story it's a quick read.
Overall a cute story and set during Christmas season. The characters are interesting and the concept of the series is intriguing. I liked the concept of the ornament could lead to true love and that Mrs. Claus has something special to do too.
A delightful romantic and Christmas story of new found love for Joel and Tamara along with their daughters. Christmas magic awaits Tamara and Chris when they arrived in Montana. Enjoyed the Christmas story with its magic Match Maker.
The couples in this series are engaged or married within a few days of meeting each other. Even for romance fiction, it's all too rushed. Not my taste.
