All of their extraordinary adventures makes an ordinary vacation very appealing Danni Cafferty and Michael Quinn are happy to accept an invitation to a new couples resort from a friend of Danni’s. Since inheriting her father’s collectible’s and antique shop in New Orleans and meeting Quinn, Danni’s life has been turned upside down and nothing about their relationship has been normal or relaxing, so the invitation is a great chance to let their lives as a couple flourish as they simply enjoy whirlpools, hot steam, perhaps a few decadent chocolates and some bubbling champagne. But, maybe ordinary isn’t in the cards for Cafferty and Quinn When their first day poolside is interrupted by news of strange deaths in a nearby historic cemetery that’s rumored to be cursed, champagne and chocolates have to take a back seat. Three corpses have been found strung up like scarecrows while a mirror set of murders has happened back home in New Orleans, creating an aura of fear that the grisly event could occur yet again. Sometimes it’s better to just play to your strengths Now it’s up to Danni and Quinn to see if they can discover the truth between fact and legend before a killer can strike again.

Danni and Quinn are guest for the grand opening of a resort two hours outside of New Orleans when three bodies are found in the local cemetery. This is three days after three bodies were found in a cemetery in New Orleans. Danni and Quinn are involved with the investigation helping the police. Danni and a friend are involved in a car 🚗 accident and find themselves to the the next victims. Quinn to the rescue and arrest of the killers. I would recommend this novel and author to 👍 readers of mystery novels 👍🔰. 2023 👒😀😡🏡
I enjoy this author ,but this book was hard to follow. It had too many typos (?) And errors. I had to stop and go back to figure what a sentence meant. The figure out what was going on. Quinn and Dannie are good characters but this book wasn't worthy of them.
You know how sometimes you can see that a writer has a contract to fulfill so they just write? Well, this is one of those kinds of books. It's an easy to skim mystery. No more no less.
The latest Cafferty & Quinn novel is an entertaining, if macabre, treat. Danni and Quinn are invited to a couples resort outside of Lafayette; a school friend of Danni's owns it, and the two are looking forward to a nice vacation.
Unfortunately, one of the high-level staff members for the resort is murdered in a manner reminiscent of a local legend ... and soon the peace and quiet is gone. Danni and Quinn are knee-deep in the investigation, and possibly targets of the murderer themselves.
As always, Heather Graham creates a well-constructed murder mystery peopled with interesting characters and situations. Her understanding of human nature, and ability to create a legend out of thin air, go a long ways toward making her books just delightful. I didn't see the "whodunnit" coming at all!
This is a fast, light read. Highly recommended for fans of the genre.
I have read every book Heather Graham has written and would read them all again. This book with Quinn and Danni was a little disappointing and lacked her usual flare that keeps you on edge and alert. Although investigating century old legends it just kind of lumbers on to the finish. Of course being Heather Graham it is worth reading but just don't expect her usual finish.
New Orleans oddities shop owner, Danni Cafferty, and her private investigator boyfriend, Mike Quinn, are vacationing at a resort in the bayou. Their time off is short lived, however, when their help is requested at a murder site in a nearby historic cemetery. The murders appear to be based on an old legend revolving around scarecrows and a harvest festival. Danni and Quinn are soon busy researching and investigating another strange case, trying to catch a killer before they become victims themselves.
For some reason, there were a lot of editing errors in this book, making the story hard to follow at times. Cafferty and Quinn have great chemistry, though, on and off the job! They trust and respect each other, despite their rocky start in the first book!
When I saw my favorite author had a novella for my favorite series on Prime Reading I had to snatch it up! So glad I did. It's always a pleasure to visit New Orleans with my favorite couple through the eyes of my favorite author! This story had just enough twists and turns that the C&Q series always comes with. It kept me right on the edge of my seat! I loved it. All that being said, the writing seemed off to me. I'm not sure what it was it just didn't feel like my favorite spooky artifact collecting couple. I noticed some inconsistencies with the writing. At one point the book called Either Jake or Quinn - Craig. There's no Craig in this series. It was strange. Dani didn't seem like Dani either. I still gave the book 4 stars because it's a favorite series and I had a joyful time revisiting with them again. I read this book in a day. Really enjoy this series.
It seems I either like and really enjoy what Heather Graham has written, or it's just OK.
This book was just OK to me. I didn't find much suspense even though there are several murders. The story doesn't have the mystery and/or twists that Heather's stories usually have. I also didn't connect much with the characters.
I really dislike when, while reading, I get "stopped" by a wrong word or typo. This is like stubbing my toe. This book has several places where (thanks to Spellcheck, I'm sure) a word is incorrect. I get stopped for a second or two and lose my train of thought while determining the correct word.
Remember, this is just MY opinion. I'm sure other people will read this story and love it. That's just how books are. I still look forward to Heather's next book in the Krewe of Hunters Series..
Dani and Quinn have finally taken a vacation, even if it is to stay at a friend's new resort. Things don't stay quiet for long, and once again their unique talents are put to the test as the bizarre and macabre have followed them out from New Orleans. Could the ghost of a young woman really haunt the parish, or has someone taken the old tale and twisted it for their own purposes? Graham once again uses history and the culture of Louisiana to paint a vivid tale that pulls readers in quickly. Another winner in the Cafferty and Quinn series.
Danni and Quinn are on vacation: sun, pool and drinks; away from the quirky, paranormal and downright dangerous... At least, until they get a phone call...
Danny's friend, Colleen, is frantic. Her new business is in jeopardy of closing due to horrific murders being displayed in groups of three as grotesque scarecrows; one of which is Colleen's employee. It's up to Quinn and Danni to stop the killer before he strikes again and find the cursed object that's causing the killer to act out. Find it and destroy it before anyone else falls to the Reaper's scythe....
The book started out being exciting but it was a challenge to finish! She is a master at establishing her characters but somewhere around the middle of her stories they seem to lose momentum and act out of the character that she has set for them. For example in this book Quinn and Danni would have made an awesome team but as the story progressed they never really worked together as a team! Until the final scene where they did come together as a team! If they had throughout the entire book I would have given them a much higher rating!
Danni Cafferty's friend has opened a couples resorted inviting both Danni and Michael Quinn to the opening. Danni and Michael are excited to have a vacation away from all the strange in their lives. But that's not in the cards for them as they're drawn into the investigation of two sets of strange deaths. In a nearby cemetery three bodies have been set up as scarecrows and the same thing happened in New Orleans.
Danni and Quinn's couple's vacation turned into an investigation of some bizarre murders with the victims turned into scarecrows. As usual, there are legends and artefacts involved but the reason for the murders turned out to be quite mundane.
Found quite a few editing errors in the book. One in particular was quite jarring, where Craig was used instead of Quinn?! Overall, a fairly short and average read.
Not sure what occurred with this book, but this was not MS Grahams typical writing. Maybe it was because I didn't read the first couple of books in the set, but this book.lacked.coherent storyline, and interesting plot..it appeared to have a lot of useless prologue to use up space, and make I the story longer. Not the authors typical work that I usually devour. This took.me days to finish
I really like these two characters. Danni and Quinn have more of an intriguing premise because of her father's store and the sub-characters that are involved. While Danni does have a habit of getting herself into ridiculous situations, when she really should know better by this point, the story works well. There is some foreshadowing, but it is not so obvious to give away the ending. All in all, a good entry to the Cafferty & Quinn arc.
This is another winner. I Love all her different series she writes. Great characters and wonderful storylines in every book and writes. She has written over 200 books and I think I I have read a!! of them. I highly recommend all her books to everyone who loves paranormal mysteries. Diana Romano put
I have read Heather Graham's books extensively, but found this one somewhat lacking. There was a mystery involved as with her other Quinn and Caferty books, but it was missing character development. This may have been due to length of the novel - shorter than a full novel. I did not find it up to the same standard as I have become used to from Ms. Graham.
McCafferty & Quinn take a rare holiday that soon becomes anything but, as they find themselves helping to solve a murder mystery - 3 bodies strung up to look like scarecrows in two locations. Lots of folklore and ghost stories tie in with the murders, but what us the truth. Read it and find out through all the twists and turns.
This book is great for any reader of the Krewe Hunter series. It is similar in style and tells of the area where the story takes place. I had read the first book years ago and forgot about this series till now. I am going to go back to beginning of the series and read this from the beginning. Very good story
Frustrating to read. So many words missing within sentences, misspellings, and awkward wordy lines. Also, a wrong name used.....Who's Craig? Randomly within a conversation Craig says something. It appears to be a hastily written story without any proofreading or edits. Overall storyline not well developed and wraps up quickly.
As always Dani and Quinn are an inspiration into all different facets of their lives. Their love and appreciation of each other and how they greatly complement each of their talents to solve their most perplexing cases.
Another fast reading and awesomely written novel by Heather Graham. I'm not sure if her stories are based on actual legends of not but they all are fascinating! Her endings are always satisfying! The continuation of favorite characters is always a huge plus.
It wasn’t the obvious person doing the murdering. It kept things moving and you guessing. I would recommend to anyone who likes books with things that go bump in the night.
Cafferty and Quinn series are always a great reading exoeriece and this is a great addition. It involves a dating site and couples meeting---it is supposed to be a vacation for them but turns into a gruesome triple murder. Exciting conclusion!!
A bizarre set of murders seem to tie in with Danni’s old friend who opens a singles resort. There are plenty of suspects but hopefully they can narrow things down before someone else dies. Great short story!
I love Heather Graham’s Krewe series, but I find the novellas not so entertaining. This particular novella did have some unexpected twists, and the ending was not what I expected. I love Danni and Quinn and hope to see them again.
Once again Heather has written a great murder mystery! I really love this series of books. I like all the folklore and antiques with curses or tales attached to them they add the the intrigue.
I was surprised by the identity of the killer! I’ve read enough of this genre to usually figure out who did it but not this time. Interesting plot. The one thing not really explained was some of the things the killer says to the old man at the end. Good read overall.
Graham has a lot of titles to her credit in multiple genres. I was unaware of her fame until I went to a recent book conference. Graham had such a strong and committed fanbase that I thought I should download a title and give it a read. With 'Bitter Reckoning' I found myself disappointed both in the story and the characters, they were overly simplistic and kind of boring. I may have chosen a bad title as my first read, but Graham won't be on my reading list for a long while.
