Most modern businesses could not run without the help of social media. Publishing is no exception.
Gone are the days of newspaper announcements, physical posters, and TV/radio spots. Instead, most people in charge of doing their own advertising are doing it on social media. Why?
Social media puts the power in the hands of everyday people. Thanks to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, any average person can become an influencer. Anyone can have their content liked, shared, and purchased by people all over the world.
Social proof is more important now than ever. As consumers, we don’t trust corporations or entities that don’t have a social media presence. If I look a business up and can’t find a website, I’m not likely to interact with them, their products, or their services. The same likely holds true for your potential customers.
If you want to sell books, you have to build a social media platform. That's where this book comes in. THE WRITER'S GUIDE TO SLAYING SOCIAL is your one-stop shop for crafting and curating the perfect social media presence for your author platform—and for generating more sales, gaining followers, and using social media to your advantage.
Briana Morgan is a horror writer, editor, and author of The Tricker-Treater and Other Stories, which won a Godless 666 Award for Best Audiobook. With more than a decade of experience scaring herself and others, Briana has a fresh voice that shines through in her latest book, The Reyes Incident, which has sold more than 16,000 copies to date. Her other books include Mouth Full of Ashes, Unboxed: A Play, and more.
Briana has a BA in English and Creative Writing from Georgia College & State University. She is also an active member of the Horror Writers Association. When not writing, Briana loves reading disturbing fiction, playing video games, and traveling with her husband.
This is a basic introduction to authors that want to jump into social media who are new to it. It's 18 pages, which can be read in a few minutes. If you're familiar with being an author and/or social media, this doesn't present much new, and it lacks much of the substance promised from the title. It only talks about Twitter and Instagram and briefly mentions Facebook, but other important social media is left out. I would only recommend this to newbies, and most of the info can be found elsewhere.
I believe the basics are quite important and finding your footing is vital to a gameplan. I do however wish there was more about engaging other people, the methods she used to gain more of a following, hashtags, and the more detailed aspects of utilizing social media. I have many many questions. This book is perfect for beginners.
Great beginner book, but not enough in there to help with “slaying” social media. Will there be a sequel with more details on how Briana actually slays social media? Let’s hope so!!
