After years of wondering, I know what I am. A DragonGod gifted with the powers of the Greek Gods. Unfortunately, their magic is going haywire inside me. If I don’t learn to control it, I can pretty much kiss my life goodbye.
Things get a lot more complicated when explosions start tearing apart the earth in Greece and I realize that evil witches are up to something deadly. My only hope is to go to the land of the Amazons to seek answers, and to unite my magic within me.
It will be a deadly journey, but at least I have my friends at my side. No matter how dangerous, I can’t give up. Because if I don’t succeed in time, thousands will die, including me.
Clash of Magic is a fast-paced urban fantasy adventure starring a kick butt heroine, a powerful hero, and magic that will blow your socks off.

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.
This the third instalment of Rowans adventures working with the Protectorate just sucks the reader right in. As usual there are somewhat crazy sidekicks to steal the show not to forget the divine Maximus but everything quite rightly revolves around Rowan and her new powers that at times seem impossible. It's one thing to know where her powers come from but accepting and utilising them is a completely different game . Her adversaries might not seem to be the biggest or baddest imaginable but the trouble and mayhem that ensues pretty much stretches Rowan to her limits. I adore the way this author peppers her stories with action and romance but it's everything else she adds that makes her writing truly stand out. History, legends and mythology all seem to play a part. Magic clearly runs the show but always expect the unexpected. Titans, Amazons, Dragons and Oracle's all somehow enrich the story in amazing and often hilarious ways yet still there's time for friendship, family and love, what more could you want ? This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair.
Love this series. Only the third book I have read in it as just discovered it but don't feel lost at all. Love the strong characters too. I highly recommend
What do I say that I haven’t said about this series before? Yes, I know this is only the third book in this part, but all the books are intertwined and so wonderfully written I’m not sure what else to say! LOL! Every book is a fun adventure with romance sprinkled in. You are immediately drawn into the story, and you frantically read each page because you have to find out what is going to happen next. If urban/adventure fantasy with a little romance is your genre, you need to try this author. Fun and entertaining books I highly recommend!! I was provided the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.
Great read:This book is great as the whole series works on many ideas and things that make us grow, Family and Friends being one of the biggest! It is consistent through out all the books! Family and friends make our lives fuller!!
So the mythology and historical stuff and action are, as usual, pretty well done and written at a clipping pace. I'm just honestly getting worn out by all of the redundant phrases and descriptions that instead of improving, I swear...are somehow getting WORSE. It's really a shame. At least by this book, Rowan's and Maximus' relationship isn't AS punch-out as Ana's and Lauchlan's was on the heels of Bree's and Cade's.
This is a fun and easy to read book!! It's a book that's easy to get to and easy to know what's happened. Even if you haven't read it in a while. Left on a bit of a cliffhanger too!!
Rowan went to the darkest part of the ghost library with Florian to find information about Stryx but it was guarded by a wraith. The wraith demanded a bit of Rowan's magic if she wanted the book and he only allowed her to look for a few minutes. The reader didn't get much information about the Stryx (Rowan seemed content enough with whatever information she got, that they were last spotted a thousand years ago), but she managed to take a snap of a potion that could allow her to see what truth the witches wanted and fortunately, the protectorate already had it, the Veil of Power.
She asked for Jude to let her have it and after awhile, Jude agreed but Hedy would supervised the process and it would be done in the spell class. She had to channel her power to activate the magic and she saw a glimpse of explosion (but again, useless and not much information). She pushed herself to see more even though Hedy told her to stop until eventually, her lightning went astray and almost harmed the other students. After that, Jude got mad and banished her from class until she could control her power or like Bree, her power would devour each other and she would be an empty husk.
She went to W&W to meet with her sisters who just got back from assignment, and they just talked a little when Jude called for Ana for help somewhere in Northern Greece. They arrived to a bunch of explosions and a bunch of Obsidia attacking them. After they got rid of the Obsidia, Jude called them on top, she was up there with Max, who was sent there by the Order. When they saw to the crater of the volcano, Rowan could see the two witches down there and she realized that this scene was exactly the same as the one the Truth Teller showed her.
Suddenly, she heard a pull that ordered her to go down the crater and she couldn't resist, even when she fought it. But she was interrupted by Hermes, who was sent by Queen Hippolyta and Penthesilea to save her, because the Stryx needed her for something. He gave her a transport charm that would take her to Istanbul, where they built their new headquarter then took her away to the edges of the crater. She called for the others who tried to break through the barrier and immediately ran away because she still felt the pull and explained to them that she needed to visit the Amazon. Jude agreed and Max of course offered to help while Ana and Bree would stay and figured out how to break through because the explosion would eventually affect the nearby villages.
They teleported to Istanbul and enter the headquarter, but immediately attacked by two Amazons who guarded outside, who tried to measure them up, but then took them to the queens. The queen said if she wanted to control her magic, she had to proof herself worthy (cliche💤) by saving the amazons, who got ill around the same time the Stryx started to dig the Earth. They sent her to find Atlas (who was holding the satellites and preventing it from being devoured by celestial magic and caused World War III) who might know how to heal them. But he was connected with the Amazon, was also sick, and no one knew where he was except for Prometheus, who escaped his punishment and he could be found somewhere in Istanbul (this stupid author was seriously ruining the myth).
They found an already drunk Prometheus and Rowan approached him alone while Max acted as backup. He refused to speak unless Rowan drank with him. At first he also didn't want to tell her anything about Atlas but the drunker he got, the looser his tongue and he suggested to check the Garden of Hesperides but then he passed out. A waitress noticed this and said that he was supposed to help a woman. So they left him afterward but Rowan was also very drunk (even though she already took the Sober Up potion) and they rested for the night somewhere in a luxurious hotel. The next morning, she asked the Amazon how to find the garden and they told her to meet on the rooftop.
The Amazon sent her a helicopter, took them to the garden and dropped them off. They explored a bit and met Ladon but he called Rowan sister. They both cut their hand, she got some of his blood, and she finally felt at peace with her magic, even the dark one. Then he took them to a river and gave them his scale that could turn into a boat. They almost died after they fell from a waterfall and fought a sea monster but she electrocuted it and Max made it ate its own tail. A grateful nereid came and decided to help them arrived faster to their destination. They stepped off the boat and the scale shrank back, then they walked until they found a forest.
Animals came, threatening them but she got a power from Artemis that allowed her to control the animals and told them to take them to the Hesperides. They arrived to a castle that was surrounded by thorns and she was forced to use her power from Hades to remove it. They found the Hesperides surrounded by thorns and after she removed the vines, dark magic blasted them and the Hesperides jumped up, blaming her for the one who put them in those vines for a hundred years. She explained to them what happened and that they needed to find Atlas, but these bitches forced her to call the moon because they haven't seen it for a hundred years, and somehow, she managed. So the Hesperides gave them a clue to find Atlas's castle but they needed a blood sorcerer that could help perform the spell, that proof they meant no harm towards Atlas and showed them the way to him.
However, they couldn't left they forest yet and Artemis came, confirming it was dangerous. Artemis said she believed in Rowan and gave them a camp plus a beautiful pool to rest for the night (more like a make out session). The next morning, Rowan texted the blood sisters and they told her that they needed a hespodel from Snakerton in Darklane. Snakerton gave them a hard time before he finally gave up the root and they went to the blood sorceress. They made the potion, she drank it and they got the next clue, Oracle Delphi. So they went there, met the Oracle, who was addicted with soap opera, and after some chat about soap series, she told them how to went to Atlas's fortress, but the barrier was connected to the spell that compelled her to them so if she destroyed it, she wouldn't be easily compelled to them.
There was a circle of pillars outside her temple and they had to say his name tree times to get teleported there. When they arrived, they had to climb inside and finally met the sickly Atlas. He was not well and he said the only way to heal him was if they stopped the Stryx from opening the gate to Tartarus because Tartarus pulled at Atlas, making him sick (HA! moron). And the Stryx needed Rowan's magic for something so they returned back to the protectorate, making plan with the others and Hedy already got a bomb that could tear down the barrier. Rowan got the idea to put her magic in stone (from the time when she was under the Dragon Gods' control) into the bomb, so it could pass the barrier.
All the protectorate members prepared to war and yes, the bomb succeed to pass through the barrier, but it didn't destroy it thoroughly, so Rowan used her lightning bolt to destroy it. However, they were already too late because the Stryx managed to summon four titans. So Rowan decided to destroy the drill before more came out while her friends distracted the titans but the Stryx got ahold of her and chained her to the drill that seeped her power. But Rowan used her potion to break through it and managed to get rid of the chains. They fought again and Rowan blasted the witches with her death power that they just ran away, along with three of the titans (one of them got shoved back into tartarus). They buried the holes again and Rowan decided to visit the Amazons to make sure they were fine.

This is the third book in Rowan’s journey to dragongodhood. I’m sort of at a loss as to what to say as this is the twenty-eighth book in the Dragons Gift series and the thirteenth in the series around the three Blackwood sisters Bree, Ana and Rowan? My problem is that while each heroine has her own personality and the challenges they face are unique, they also have the same heroic qualities and after a while fighting one monster seems just like fighting another. Each book is jammed packed with action as the young women featured in the series proves her bravery, courage, toughness, resourcefulness and not least of all heart. Rowan like her sisters is beyond courageous, tougher than old boot leather and great under pressure. Her personal issue is having been a captive and unwilling tool of the now dead Rebel Gods she fears the dark magic still within her. Now thanks to a gift from the god Hades she has the ability to suck the life from living things. This new ability reminds her too much of the dark things she did under the control of the Rebel Gods. She struggles to even suck the life from vegetation. Together with her boyfriend the demigod Maximus she travels the world (primarily Greece and Turkey) searching for answers as to how to stop the Stryx, save the world, Atlas and the Amazons whom she now realizes are part of her extended family. She discovers more powers she’s been given by the Greek pantheon of gods and learns to embrace all of them. She twice faces the Stryx foiling their plans but failing to capture or destroy them. She and Maximus haven’t been intimate but its pretty much implied they’ve gotten to third base. Our favorite blood sorceresses make an appearance although it would have seemed more natural if she’d gone to the one in The Vaults. The Firesouls show up to help the Protectorate fight a war against the Stryx and their demon army. Now that Rowan has all of her powers and her romantic life is moving along, I’m not sure how the author will drag her story out for two more books. It seems like she could probably wrap this up in one more final book. But I’m enjoying each book with the Blackwood sisters so I won’t complain.
Book 3 begins with Rowan and Florian in the Library with a really, nasty, Wraith. Still dealing with the attacks by the Stryx, Rowan and sisters, Ana and Bree, along with their fellows at the Undercover Protectorate, were moving mountains, trying to find the answers to who or what are the Stryx? What there are they planning and finally, why did they need Rowan?
Rowan, like sisters Ana and Bree, was a DragonGod. But each of them manifests different powers and abilities. Rowan, we found out last book, is the Greek DragonGod, part Amazon, part dark magi. The dark magic has really been giving her fits, while she has trying to earn the why’s and wherefores’ of her power. Enter Maximus Valerius, Gladiator, Mage, and a very handsome, talented guy to have around. Plus, it did not hurt he was extremely attracted to Rowan. Did I say very attracted? Every time they were together, the attraction simply sizzled!
This book is about Rowan finding more about her powers while she and Maximus go about finding ways to stop the Stryx. It seems they are really nasty, centuries old and very powerful creatures with a vendetta. Only problem is no one really knows against who and why. Meantime they are wrecking havoc tunneling into the earth, causing magical mayhem. The Protectorate and Order of Magica fight them while seeking ways to stop them, for good. Rowan and Maximus have their work cut out for them!
Since this book is third in the series, I highly suggest starting with book one. Really you need to start with Linsey’s other Dragons Gift series to get an understanding of the whole universe. Linsey has a way of intertwining and weaving each to make it show the whole!
I was given an arc but the review is all mine and freely given!
The negative: these books can be fairly formulaic, and this is the thirteenth book involving the Undercover Protectorate. In all of these books, with all of their massive climactic battles (at least one major battle per book), I can’t recall any of the major characters at the UP ever truly seeming in danger of losing their lives, or getting hurt in a manner that a healer can’t easily patch up. Given the odds they routinely face, this is wearing at the willing suspension of disbelief. It’s also making it hard to believe that there’s truly so much at stake.
That said, this book is less formulaic than some of them. There are a handful of major parts to the tasks at hand, some of which only start off seeming tangentially related at most, rather than the usual single focused obvious task. It’s a nice bit of variety.
I love how the Amazons have worked to fit into the modern world. I hope we get to see more of them in Rowan’s next two books. I’m also curious to see what new powers Rowan has coming to her, and what she does with them!
This installment isn’t as memorable as some, but it has some nice variety and, as usual, a great climactic battle. I’m looking forward to the next two books!
Linsey Hall is back with a new installment of Dragon's Gift: The Amazon, and thus latest - Clash of Magic (Book 3) - is quite sunlit superb. I love this series and adore its lead, Rowan. She is the epitome of what a kick-a** gal (my favorite kind of character) should be. Action, adventure, magic and even a bit of romance (hello Maximus, you’re not just eye candy, or even “just” an ideal partner in battle) ensue. Reading pleasure too. Rowan may now finally know who she is, a DragonGod gifted with the powers of the Greek Gods, but of she cant get control over her magic things are going to get pretty scarily bad. I never bet against Rowan, however, but I’m happy to bet that anyone reading this book will love it. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Prometheus Atlas and the Amazons are all sick from what the stryx that's causing everyone to be sick and depleted of magic that's causing all The stryxs are doing
Rowan and Magimus go to Greece to find out what the stryxs are doing to cause the magical to be depleted. They go to Greece and find the mountain that the evil ones are excavating. No one knows what they're up to but it's evil and dark magic is flowing out of the site. They learn from the Amazons that they have to find Prometheus and find Atlas to get more clues of what to do. In order to find out list they have to go to the Oracle of Delphi and get more hints of clues where to go. When they get to Atlas hidden fortress they have to scale the walls with are deadly in themselves. They learn from Atlas what's causing the drain on the magic and what they have to do to fix it.
And in continuation of Rowan and maximus, this book does it justice. The story starts where it left off in the second book and a new challenge where Rowan has to be the one to save everyone. The story moved and a brisk pace and there was a little more connection between Rowan and Maximus, and Rowan finally decides she needs Maximus in her life and they agree to go on a date finally!!! The book was packed of action, drama and some emotional turmoil. Rowan is a character who again showed a lot of strength and bravery for she had to face a lot of challenges (off-course with the help of the demigod maximus). I liked the book and would love to know where this attraction between Rowan and Maximus leads and off-course can Rowan contain the new threats that she faces. So I am going to stay tuned for the next book in the series!
Outstandingly awesome fantasy part of the Dragons Gift series. This is Rowan's ongoing story and it incorporates characters not only from her sisters stories, Druid and Valkyre but also characters from Protector, Phantom and Seeker. The main characters are strong woman who are supported by their men. In Rowan's set we have Maximus who stands and fights beside her. There is just a touch of romance but there are magical demons that try to hinder Rowans quest. This book has a HFN ending and I'm excited to read the next book in this series. Each book is exciting and full of unexpected danger. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Hall.
I'm annoyed that it took me so long to read this book because it's awesome but unfortunately life got in my way. This is a great series as its one you can read a chapter or two a day and never forget what's going, which is really saying something when you are like me and have the memory of a sieve. When I finally found time to really get stuck into the book (with about 50-60% to go) it was late New Years Eve, with the boyfriend and 2 year old fast asleep, and I devoured it in a matter of hours. I honestly cannot think of a better way to bring in the New Year than reading a fantastic addition to a wonderful series.
So much happens in clash of magic.......greek gods, greek settings (Greece is beautiful) new magic, lots of danger and battles, Rowan 's journey is moving exponentially fast! Maximus is the perfect man, hot and sexy but gallent and tender, if only I could really live in this magical domain One thing I do love with this author is the constant battle lines between good and bad, but even then some characters practise blood magic and you would easily consider them bad or evil, but they're not, teaching not to be hasty to judge on Well done on another solid book
I liked that we finally got to learn more about the protagonist's powers as well as see her begin to understand and use them more. I'm excited about her being part Amazon and being introduced to this race of fierce warriors in this book; I look forward to reading about her training with them and embracing that aspect of her identity more in the next book! I'm hoping her relationship with Max is fostered more in the next book as well since once again, too much world ending drama was going on for them to enjoy more than a smoldering look or brief embrace every so often.
2.5 stars. I read these all back to back while not feeling well so one review and one rating for all.
Why 2.5? Man, I get that these stories are hero quests but, come on, this was just one challenge after another and another after another after another. The love interest had no drama - basically a nice hottie which is fine but not very interesting.
There are more books in the overall world that Hall has created but I'll be taking a break for now. Maybe they'll be more refreshing after a step away.
From all the books I've read from Linsey (28), there's never a dull moment! The Stryx are on a rampage with big plans, this time it's up to Rowan to save everyone, get control of her powers and face her fears doing it. Along with the help of hunky Gladiator looking, Maximus, this team is set for the Win, but will they obtain it in completion? I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves not just Urban Fantasy, but any type Fantasy mixed with a dose of action, sprinkled with a bit of intense romance.
Rowan has to brave some challenges before she even leaves the Protectorate castle right at the start to find the Stryx. And go meet the Amazon Queens in their modern skyscraper near the edge of the Black Sea. She must meld her magic or the Stryx will not be her biggest problem. Istanbul, Greece, Magic's Bend she's all over, while the Stryx are digging a hole to find . . .
I love seeing the connections between all the characters. Cass, Del, Nix, Connor and Claire, Aerdica and Mordica. How everyone puts it all on the line. Even if the books are a bit cookie cutter. I think I’ve read 20 or books so far so I’m not upset. Lol
The only thing that bugged me was a slip up in chapter 14. Rowan doesn’t have conjuring power, but at the battle in the crater she conjured a sword rather than pulling it from the ether.
This series really gets better and better. I find that Ms. Hall writes books that really get me going. So I'll definitely continue to read more from her. I love the plot and I cannot wait to see where it's leading. More and more questions are answered and even the romance moves forward. I have got to say that I LOVE Maximus, he is PERFECT. He respects Rowan so much, he trusts her every time, he encourages her and I think he adores her.
This book hit the ground running and didn’t stop with the action until the last page! I love Rowan and Maximus! The Greek/Roman mythology and locations throughout this series have been so amazing to read. Linsey Hall makes learning little bits of history fun for someone who hasn’t historically like the subject. *pun intended* Lol. Kudos to a great installment and looking forward to the next one!
This is an epic series. I love all of the Dragon God books and characters but with each new series it just keeps getting better. Non stop action and mystery. Amazing characters and plots. The research that goes into these books has to be a feat itself. I can't wait for the next book.
With little time to find the Stryx and discover their plan, Rowan had to embrace all her powers, even those that frightened her. A story full of adventure, strange characters and challenges that stimulate the imagination. Like how the author crafts the fantasy with amusing and action packed descriptions and narrations that kept me reading entertained because anything could happen.
I liked this series a lot, however, she uses the phrase "thank fates" so often that it became so irritating I could barely finish it. Every single page at least once. If not for that I would have given it more stars. I'm gonna try another of her series but if I see thank fates one more time in the others Im out.
Clash of the Magic, Book 3 in Linsey Hall’s Dragon’s Gift series, continues to highlight Rowan as a strong female god who is trying to understand her powers and work through her darkness.
I wait anxiously for each book that Linsey presents to us. She is a fabulous world creator and through love, loyalty, and magic, we live our wildest dreams!
Rowan conquered her fears for the most part in this book. She also also made some hilarious friendships and acquaintances. The Menacing Menagerie is endearing. Rowan's relationship with Maximus is moving along steadily. It's cute that the author keeps things a bit PG rated on that front in all her books.
Rowan has to embrace her magic even the dark or she will go insane and loose herself. The Amazon’s are sick as are the 2 Titans Prometheus and Atlas. Rowan and Maximus race to find Atlas and help him and the Amazon’s before it is to late. Another great book and story. Excited for the next book.
