Life for eighteen-year-old Elizabeth Stone was going smoothly until her mother died and the man she’d been in love with for years suddenly disappeared. Now he’s back in town, but only for a short visit, and he still thinks of her as a kid sister. What will it take to make him notice her as a woman?
Tainted by his undercover work, Pinkerton agent Stephen Randall wants what is best for his childhood friend—and it isn’t him. Brushing off Beth’s advances seems like the best plan. That is, until she is mistaken for a female outlaw wanted for robbery and murder. Now they must work together to find her nemesis and clear her name, and the only way to do that is for Beth to become a Pinkerton agent herself—and marry Stephen.
But with the case—and their attraction—heating up, will Stephen realize his love for her in time to save her?
An Agent for Elizabeth is the seventh book in The Pinkerton Matchmaker series. Be sure to grab your copy and then look for the next exciting installment in the series!
People sure grew up a lot faster in the past than they do nowadays. Being a Pinkerton agent sounds so dashing, adventurous, and dangerous! And I don't think many young people could do what these people did back then. I loved the premise of these Pinkerton agents taking wives to work on cases. In this instance, Stephen and Elizabeth know each other from the past and the way Beth plunks herself right into Stephen's life again, with spunk and sass, is adorable.
Being an agent is tough, as Beth soon discovers when they embark on an adventure. While hot on the trail after outlaw Callie Delleman, danger and mystery arises and those perils only serve to bring these two closer together.
A surprising twist gives the reader a surprise, but the bond that emerges is worth the risk. This is an enjoyable tale and has a little bit of everything--mystery, danger, and love.
Sometimes you choose a career and sometimes a career chooses you. Elizabeth never wanted to be a Pinkerton Agent. In fact she was sure that she didn’t have what it takes to be an Agent. But, being a Pinkerton Agent would have her married to the man she fell in love with as a child. Stephen was not the man he used to be. Although he didn’t want to marry Elizabeth, he knew he had to protect her. Can Elizabeth and Stephen rekindle their friendship and allow it to grow into love while keeping Elizabeth safe and bringing an outlaw to justice? Julia Ridgmont writes a story of suspense, intrigue and romance. I was hooked from the beginning to end! I highly recommend An Agent for Elizabeth!
Julia Ridgmont weaves a wonderful story of "the girl next door" growing into a beautiful woman with the "on the edge of your seat" historical detective mystery. Stephen left town to get a job to help support his parents and the huge family. Meanwhile, the pesky Elizabeth, who followed him around grew into a beautiful woman. Always in love with Stephen, Elizabeth follows him to Denver and decided to apply as one of Pinkerton Security's new women agents and is surprised to discover Stephen is her trainer. When she keeps being mistaken for a wanted criminal and mysterious things happen at home, the partnership takes an interesting turn.
Julia's writing, character development, and ability to create suspense without too much foreshadowing keeps the reader on edge. I loved how gradually Stephen's realization of his feelings changed. Very natural; as was Elizabeth's shock of family secrets. The historical tidbits at the end of the story are delightful for history fans. Can't wait for her next book.
Wow this book leaves your u with a wonderful feeling after you finish it. Just like you were there sitting in the out doors with them. This was a wonderful story, had adventures, friendships, outlaws, and a great twist to the story! old childhood friends reunited, and people who aren’t who they seem. You won’t regret the time spent on this book! It leaves you wanting more of Elizabeth and her agent.
And the research this author did of Historical facts places and people. That was an added bonus for me that made the book. At the end she tells you what part of the story was in fact fiction and what was fact.
This is part of a series but they are all independent stories so reading them at random is just fine. Also there was no language or sexual references so I can recommend this book to my preteen advanced reading friends. ( or readers that don’t like that in their stories.)
Elizabeth's family isn't all it seems. Elizabeth hasn't been happy since his father married Clementine, and Clementine doesn't much like Elizabeth either. Elizabeth has loved Stephen, it seems, forever. When Stephen comes home for his brother's wedding, he and Elizabeth have one dance and she goes away having no idea how he feels about her - but her step-mother tricks her into following Stephen to Denver where he is a Pinkerton Agent. She has no wish to be a Pinkerton agent, but she wants to be married to Stephen, so she promises to go through this one case - capturing Callie Deleman, a woman who strangely looks just like Elizabeth - but when the truth is finally known it isn't so strange. I really enjoyed this story.
Elizabeth and Stephen may know each other but they quickly find that nothing is as it seems, their chemistry is off the charts and hard to resist, Stephen appears to have no control over his heart or Beth, the outlaw they are pursuing seems to be all smoke and mirrors but worse than that, there is a puppet master pulling both their strings. Have they been targeted by the villainous outlaw or is it just back luck? This is a journey of discovery not only for Elizabeth and Stephen, but also for families who think they know their loved ones, only to find secrets from the past shatter everything you hold dear. A roller coaster of an investigation and a great addition to the series, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
What was Elizabeth thinking when she took the train to go after Stephen? They are childhood friends but now her stepmother tells her to go after him to marry him. When Stephen, a Pinkerton Agent, finds out, he isn’t very happy but before they know they are married and after a famous outlaw who just looks like Elizabeth. Was going after him well so wise or will she regret it? Can they fing the outlaw and bring her to justice? This is an entertaining story with a surprising plot that I really enjoyed. I recommend all the stories that I’ve read in this series.
What an exciting story. Little did Elizabeth (Beth) ever imagine becoming a Pinkerton agent when she was tracking down Stephen. Beth and Stephen grew up together, but her feelings for him were changing. Could she make him see that and change his mind also. When trying to do this, she is arrested for a crime she didn't commit. She is being framed, and it is up to them to get married and chase Callie, as Pinkerton agents. Beth looks just like the wanted poster. Boy this is getting good and in the mist of trouble, love might be blooming!
This book of the series is a little different in that the two agents knew each other in the past. She is mistaken for a criminal that looks like her and that is the case they have to solve. Very interesting ending. I normally pick upnon certain coincidences in a book, but the author has you so drawn into the story, you don't catch on til right near the end of the book.
Another pretty cover. This is just how I pictured Elizabeth in the story. She is pretty and intelligent. She has loved Stephen for a long time. After four years he is back for his brothers wedding. He is a bit on the mysterious side now, but Elizabeth gets a pounding heart when near him. Her stepmother convinces her to follow Stephen when he leaves. What follows is a series of accidents that only endear her to him. There are a few surprises along the way too. Another great read.
While each book in the series can be read as a stand-alone and they are not required to be read in order; they do each have the same origin story and it appears that they have not employed a continuity reader to ensure that the origin of each book are the same. There are small but quite noticeable differences in each of the books I've read so far. They don't detract from the overall story but I do find them distracting.
This installment of the Pinkerton Matchmaker series was interesting and suspenseful. The author's writing style drew me into the story right from the beginning. The main characters had an interesting dynamic between them and the case Beth and Stephen were involved with was plausible and their sleuthing skills believable. This is a new author for me and I look forward to reading more by her.
Elizabeth has always loved Stephen Randall. When he returns to Kansas City for his brother's wedding, Elizabeth can't bear to see him go a 2nd time so she follows him and proposes marriage. Doing so lands her in the middle of the Denver Pinkerton agency, married in name only to Stephen, and hot on the trail of a female outlaw who looks just like her.
Book 7 in the Pinkerton Matchmaker series. Beth was encouraged by her step mother to run off and marry Stephen, a Pinkerton detective. They grew up together. Being agents were to get married anyway, they follow through with it. Off the catch a troubled woman who resembles Beth, they are on quite the adventure. Will they catch the woman and still end up staying married? A short book. I really love this series!
Stephen and Elizabeth were classmates I school and grew up as friends. He went away and became a Pinkerton agent. She Dr died he was the one for her and went to Denver becoming a Pinkerton too. Do they find love? This is a very adventurous and exciting tale that you will enjoy a lot.
What do you do when you finally see the man of your dreams again? Follow him west and become a Pinkerton. This is a delightful story with a mystery I almost missed. I was so focused on the couple and the case I missed some clues right a long with them. The characters are perfectly balanced and good for each other. This is a delightful story that I am so happy to have had read.
I really like this story. You find yourself rooting for this couple from the beginning. There were just a couple of little things in the book that I thought jumped without enough explanation. I don’t want to give anything way, but there were a couple of scenes that went from point A to point B without really clarifying things in between. But it was still a really good book.
Do you ever have a secret that you didn't want anyone to know? Past mistakes come back to haunt. Can love help? I guess you need to read this book to find out. Beth is a sweet, smart young woman who trusts Stephen.
An Agent for Elizabeth by Julia Ridgmont was full of mystery and a little drama with some romance included. I liked the characters. This series is fun.
I love this series of books. The author add in some historical events in this story. It made me laugh & cry. Read Stephen & Elizabeth's story you won't be disappointed.
The story was a beautiful read. I read it in one sitting, couldn't put it down. I had guessed the truth about Elizabeth and Callie. Good read. Just needs a little more to the ending. Maybe a series after the cases, to see how everyone is nett along in their lives.
Encouraged by her unloving stepmother to pursue the man she's loved for years, Elizabeth goes chasing after Stephen. Only to discover that he's a Pinkerton agent and that now she is on the case with him. Elizabeth may have a pampered background, but I loved how tough she was.
I very much enjoyed Elizabeth and Stephen's story. Good mysteries in along with I interesting historical facts. Julia Ridgmont consistently provides readers with satisfying adventures.
An entertaining romp through the perils and love between two old friends as they discover the family secrets can cause problems and strive yet come to a happy ending. Plus tying the threads of the stories in the series together.
This story is sweet and romantic and swoon worthy. I'm so happy about how the Beth and Steven got together and I'm so proud of Beth for being courageous and Steven for being supportive. ❤
The narrator, C.H. Amelia did a great job with the narration..
I loved it! What a twist at the end. I love that she followed her heart and she went after the man, even though it was actually part of a plot from her step mother. And what a good story about how secrets are never good and will always bite you in the end.
A lot of excitement in a short period of time. I enjoyed this story very much. Pinkerton agents and train robbers, female crook and murderer, mean stepmother, and more. I am looking forward to more stories in this series.
This is a new author to me. Julia Ridgmont is one of the ladies that is in an group of authors writing different books about women Pinkerton Agents, love this series!
