Little did I know that saving him would save me.
I've been running since I turned seventeen. Running from a past that continues to haunt my dreams.
Running can only get you so far, sooner or later what you've been running from will catch up.
Will I survive when it does?
Eleanor Hollenberg (Ellie) ran away from home at the age of seventeen. Now, she’s twenty and found herself living in a small cabin just outside a tiny town in Alaska. Her life is simple: don’t get too comfortable, stay in hiding, stay alert, keep running. That is until she makes an unlikely friend.
Ash Sylvester doesn’t care for much. Only his friends and finding the man who killed his parents. That is until Ellie literally drags him into her home...
This was a book that started off problematic for me, but which grew better as it went along. What initially challenged my suspension of disbelief was that the story opens up with the MC struggling through the snow and yet she somehow manages to drag a several hundred pound wolf not only across some distance, but up the steps to her porch from a sled? Not to mention that she seems to lack any sense of self-preservation in approaching an injured wild wolf because she has a soft spot for injured creatures, even bringing it into her cabin.
But if you can set that aside, which I chose to do, the story does improve considerably and becomes much more complex. The romance is light and sweet, but in contrast the antagonists and their actions are dark and brutal. All in all, it was an enjoyable story that was easy to read and which possessed a surprising plot twist I did not see coming at all!

Saving Ellie is a delightful fantasy full of heart and soul. The eponymous heroine has had the worst of abusive upbringings and is on the run from a father who has sworn to kill her. Alone and afraid, she stumbles on an injured wolf lying in the snow and her life is thrown into a whirlwind of revelation, romance and battle. I absolutely loved this book and read it in one day. The central love affair between Ellie and Ash is so well written that I defy anyone not to root for them and there are just enough surprises to keep the plot shifting, literally. Recommended
You get a sense for the world immediately. Whitney R.B. has the ability to paint a picture and pull you right into Ellie's cabin in the frigid Alaskan bush. You feel the numbness in your own bones as Ellie struggles to travel through it in the early scenes. The paranormal side of the world is easy to take in, as well. But I've read plenty of books where the main character is new to a facet of the world and the writer pushes them towards idiocy and helplessness so that the reader has opportunities to see the world "explained."
Thankfully, Ellie is NOT a character like that. She has enough common sense to go with her curiosity that makes her discovery and learning feel natural, not forced. Learning about the world with her is enjoyable.
However, Ellie did leave me yelling into the pages on more than one occasion. Sometimes I'm not sure whether to love her or hate her, because she can be a bit annoying, and so can some of the other major characters. Character motivation seems to be a weak point in this book, especially with the antagonists. The severity of their actions don't quite line up with the personalities and motivations that they were given.
I'm looking forward to seeing more development out of these characters in the next book in the series! Some of them in particular I'm really hoping to see a redemption arc out of, because they have a lot of potential that we didn't get to see in Book 1.
In conclusion - if paranormal romance is your jam, you're gonna love it. If werewolves are your jam, you're especially gonna love it.
I absolutely love this book!!!! The messages in it amaze me. In the book, you really see why you should stick up for people you love. Saving Ellie is absolutely amazing, beautifully written, and very...real. Yes I know it’s not actually real but I think the characters just have a real feeling to them.
In the book, Ellie just realizes how things change and can get so twisted. The story isn’t always as it seems...just like people. Not only is the romance perfect, but the backstory is phenomenal! I feel as though some people struggle with a backstory...that’s not the case with this book.
If you haven’t read this book then you need to! I am already on board for book two.
Where to even begin, I absolutely loved this book! It starts off completely original, different than any other werewolf story. She first meets him as a wolf and the bond continues to grow from there. It was such a fresh, intriguing take on an all too common idea. And whew! Ash and Ellie's romance is steaming hot. It's the slowest burn, in such a good way! I kept yelling at them to kiss already, but honestly the wait was worth it. I love the fact that Ash is an emotional man who isn't afraid to shed tears in front of her. It makes it all more realistic. Their undeniable bond hooks you from the start! I cannot wait to read more in this series!
If you like fantasy, romance and fighting for your life kind of stories then Saving Ellie by Whitney R. B. is the story you should get your hands on, for young adult to adult audience. I loved this cute story of Ellie and Ash saving each other because they grow so fond of each other and I grew so fond of them too. I really grow to love Ellie and Ash as I got to know them better. It was a fast to medium pace book with time skips in it. I like that the book was an easy read that I was looking forward to read every day. The writing was great for me as someone that doesn’t read too much but trying to read more. It was not too complicated to follow along and had great details that help me picture what was happening.
I would say honesty that I was disappointed that there were not more cute little moments between them that I, as the reader, could reflect on with them. It did get better as the story goes on. As I could see how their relationship grew. That was really it; I really liked the story as a whole. I also love animals so I love the integration of both wolf and human. It is a as clean as you can get kind of book but with fighting, blood, torture which a bit shocking at times but a dark past can bring an even brighter future. I am ready excited for the upcoming books Whitney is planning to publish. I know they will only get better from here.
If you love young adult, paranormal romance you have to read “Saving Ellie.” I adore Ash and Ellie and the book had me hooked from the beginning. I kept reading wanting to know what was going to happen next and wanting to learn everything I could about these two characters. Can’t wait to read the next book.
The author did a great job writing the book, this was a unique take on the wolf shifter romance that kept you interested in both the plot and the romance. She keeps you rooting for the main characters and wanting to find out what happens next! The book was full of exciting and unexpected twists you didn't see coming!
Wow. Just wow. This book was an unexpected delight. The characters, the story, the lore… all of it was perfect. Ellie and Ash were beautifully written and I felt like I knew them. I could not put it down and I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
I was pleasantly surprise with this authors debut novel. Ash and Ellie's love story was so beautiful, and you could tell the author put in great thought to the plot! I couldn't put it down! I'm excited to see where she goes and I can't wait for book two!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was a fun new take on a love story with werewolves. I got pulled in very quickly and there were some exciting and unexpected twists and turns in the plot.
I immediately realized I would be up late reading when I started this! I probably read half the book before I realized it was 2 am and my toddler would be up at 7.
I love me a good fantasy novel/series and werewolves are still most definitely IN. So that said, I gave it a 4 because sometimes it seemed like there were too many details? I’m not even sure how to quite explain myself or if I make sense. Sometimes it seemed like some details were unnecessary and therefore it seemed a tad cheesy? But I love hallmark movies! So cheesy must be my type because I still loved it! Ash and Ellie are so cute together and he’s so dang protective it’s pretty hot, their connection really just jumps off the pages.

Such a fun story that pulled me in very quickly! Lots of exciting scenes and a new take on the werewolf story than what I’ve read before. I really enjoyed it!
I read this book in 2 days! The story of Ellie and Ash had me hooked from chapter 1. If you are looking for a new twist on the classic fantasy love story then this is a must read. really looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
If you love romance, this book is a good choice. There were some really cool plot twists that I wasn't expecting. I really enjoyed the action, especially at the end. The author definitely made things interesting, and now I'm curious about what is going to happen next!
I really enjoyed this book. I was expecting it to have a little more fantasy and a little less romance, but I think the romance fit this story. If you like werewolves and romance you will love this book. The main characters Ellie and Ash are great and it was really a heartwarming story about love and friendship. I almost cried.
If you like werewolves and action and romance, you’ll enjoy this book! There is a good balance between light and dark themes and it was interesting to learn about Ellie’s tragic past and see how it’s affected her. Can’t wait to see where this series goes in the next book!
This started off beautifully with characters that really appealed. It did have a novel twist to shape-shifting but the plot needed tightening up in some areas as it got a little confusing in sections, and appeared to contradict previous information. However the style of writing has a nice flow to it and I look forward to reading more from this author.
It's been awhile since I read a wolf shifter book, it was nice to get back into it with such a good one!! Ellie has such a tragic backstory, it was great to see her journey of self healing and coming to be able to trust people again. And Ash was perfect for her. Such a cute, closed door romance, with enough tense action moments to keep you on the edge of your seat. Loved it!
