Molly and Jeffrey head out to Old Fort Jackson for an evening out where they are unfortunately followed by Molly's ex-boyfriend, Jack.
But, Jack is not the only one causing trouble. Two separate storms are coming from both the east and west, and a cannon misfiring results in the death of a member of the local historical society.
Can Molly and Jeffrey piece this mystery together in time for Thanksgiving?
Book 10 in the Sweet Treats Cozy Mystery series, which can be read in one to two hours! Perfect for a lunchtime read or if you want to enjoy a quick light-hearted read, with a parrot-loving amateur sleuth, set in a seaside town with quirky characters.
Another good break read. A plot that shows how little value most history has on the role that women played and the support they provided to the men that history deems trail blazers. A date night with Jack on the tour of the local fort should have been a delightful experience. However it turned into a nightmare when Jack turned up, the head of the Historical Society was crushed by a cannon, two storms were heading their way and the ferry that they had taken developed engine problems. Now they find that it was premeditated. The cannon had been rigged to crush the person behind it. The roads are blocked with fallen trees. Jack has been locked in an ancient jail as he won't leave Molly alone. A new exhibition has been trashed and the murderer must still be present. Can they unravel what has been going on apart from the affairs and backstabbing that they now know about? Can they find the culprit before rescue comes and they make a clean getaway? Plus what will her father's files show her when her Mother brings them for Thanksgiving?
The actual case was pretty weak since I could tell what was up from the jump. I'm more concerned with how much of Jack's behavior is continuously just brushed off. Dude deserves to lose his job with that sort of aggression and stalker tendencies. Book needs solid proofread - Molly's name is Monica at one point, etc.
I find that the series really improved in this book. I was able to see better supporting character development, more time solving the mystery, and a much better cliff hanger. Yes, these are quick 70-80 page novellas published through Kindle, but now we're starting to get fun!
I enjoyed more adventures with Molly and Jeffrey! He takes her in a special date and someone ends up murdered ! They set off to find out who did it and why!
