Oliver Napoleon Hill was an American self-help author and conman. He is best known for his book Think and Grow Rich (1937), which is among the best-selling self-help books of all time. Hill's works insisted that fervid expectations are essential to improving one's life. Most of his books were promoted as expounding principles to achieve "success". Hill is a controversial figure. Accused of fraud, modern historians also doubt many of his claims, such as that he met Andrew Carnegie and that he was an attorney.
Another excellent book from one of the greatest authors of the 20th century. What I took most from the book is the 26 enemies that stop you from success.
I like this book a lot--my only hesitation is the somewhat Mysterious references throughout it. This is written by a mature Napoleon Hill--kind of like a think and grow rich in retrospect-- The underlying theme of the book seems lifted from Emerson's Essay on Compensation. Build further on the theme of Triumph out of tragedy---the uses of Adversity--Very Practical Life Philosophy in Many Spots---"It's not all about you--it's about how you connect with others and the Universe around you" "When you are free of fear, you are free to live" Take the ideas of the Great Philosophers distill them, and build them into an actionable Philosophy for actual living..... Dr. Hill does this amazingly well.... By far my favorite Napoleon Hill Book I also liked Success through a Positive Mental Attitude with him and W. Clement Stone "Never believe you don't have what it takes " "Do not limit what you give...limit what you take" "Know Thyself"
You may recognize Hill as the author of the classic Think and Grow Rich. First published in 1937, the book’s message about gaining monetary success through visualization, hard work and a positive attitude, still holds true today. Even more compelling than that book though, is the sequel Grow Rich—with Peace of Mind, which was published 40 years after the original. In 1967, an 84-year old Hill had come to a slightly different conclusion about the role of work in our lives and what success truly meant. It seems that after a lifetime of fame, riches and service as an advisor to three presidents, the elderly Hill began to whistle a different tune: be successful—but have a life, too.
Finally finished it! I couldn't help but read several chapters over and over. No spoilers from me! But, as with every Napoleon Hill book, the content was incredibly practical and the book is not just to be read through and put on the shelf; it is one to revisit and use often. renaissancewarrior.wordpress.com
Many people don't know that Napoleon Hill wrote many other books besides Think and Grow Rich. One of the best is Grow Rich With Peace Of Mind. Grow Rich With Peace Of Mind was Napoleon Hill's last book, in which he shares the perspective of 70 years study of philosophy of individual achievement. He talks about the many occasions he worked free of charge to spread the message of philosophy, and encourages people who become successful using his ideas to give back to their communities, primarily by giving guidance to other people who are trying to accomplish things. adopt the principles in this book and have peace of mind.
Money can't buy happiness, But it can make you awfully comfortable while you been miserable" by Clare Boothe this is a different book from Napoleon Hill. Why i am saying that ? Because this book trying to show what is the happiness! what is the meaning of life? is there happiness following money or wealth on our lives?
This book was copyrighted 1967 and my paperback version was printed in 1982. I think Loren must have acquired this book which is how it got on my bookshelf. Napoleon Hill was famous for the first part of the 20th C. for his books on getting rich. This book was interesting since it was written late in his life and he reflected more on the importance of peace of mind and living (and making money) according to your values. His work is a product of the New Thought movement which took hold in the US beginning in the late 19th C. This movement appeals to me, not for its magical thinking, but for emphasizing that your life really is what your thoughts are, and I use this movement philosophy to help me elevate my personal thoughts and, hence, my view of the world. I happened to google him while reading his book, and he was more known for being a con during his day rather than being a legitimate money maker. While in this book he owned up to making mistakes, he also touted what he did right and did not admit to any con jobs. I don't know what to think but it's evident that by the end of his life he recognized that peace of mind, of which honest dealings with others is a big part, became his emphasis. I will be recycling this old-style paperback.
This is required reading for everyone trying to make a life for themselves. It is a short but very dense read that requires careful reading. The advice, lessons, and schools of thought are not new in 2025, and in fact seen everywhere. But it is because of Napoleon Hill's works that they are everywhere. It was lovely reading the blueprint.
Started this book on a plane and couldn't put it down. I had never heard of Napoleon Hill but he was quite famous first part of the 20th century. Mr Hill was an influence for Norman Vincent Peale's "The Power of Positive Thinking". The book title is deceiving; it's really all about Positive Mental Attitude as the secret to everything in life. Fascinating read. In fact, months after finishing this book, I continue to give myself PMA pep talks. Mr Hill would approve.
It was just repetitive book from Nepolian Hill. After reading think & grow rich I came across this book & started digging to find some new content but the same suggestions are repeated over & over again. However I am a fan of Nepolian book & his philosophy but to prove your thoughts you don't need to print the same content in different title names.
Mood: Sanguine; optimistic Theme: How wealth and peace of mind are strongly connected with one another. Pace: Moderate Writing Quality: Old fashioned lingo, simplistic style Length: 221 pages
In this sequel to the best selling novel "Think and Grow Rich" Napoleon Hill explores how wealth and peace of mind are strongly related. He has known many wealthy men who lacked the peace of mind necessary to enjoy life fully. He explores many facets of how to get wealth in this book. Some topics discussed of note are closing the doors on the past, when you are free of fear you are free to live, how to develop your own healthy ego, how to transmute sex emotion into achievement power, and how to win aid from the law of compensation. Many of these concepts were new to me. Napoleon Hill gives several personal anecdotes within each principle. I enjoyed reading about how the mafia tried to kill him and he went into hiding, losing a book publisher at the time. Coming out of this year of fear he discovered how to develop his ego through the way he dressed and carried himself, cinching a new publisher who was far superior to the one he had lost. At times he can wax spiritual in an ominous and mystical way. He describes an interesting exchange he had with a voice in his office who spoke audibly to him about 26 vices men on earth face and how to overcome them in the dark jungle of life. He believed this voice was from the ancient hall of records where mystical men who had conquered life's vices dwelled. A very strange experience indeed and I do not doubt this happened but I do doubt it was a heavenly source... it very well could have been a demonic encounter.
Some quotes I enjoyed:
"Every adversity has within it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit." -Napoleon Hill
"I shall never be finished with learning." -Napoleon Hill
"Punishment is a fruit that unsuspected ripens within the flower of the pleasure which concealed it." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Every excess causes a defeat; every defeat an excess." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Thought always precedes action, thought always builds before the hands build, thought is mighty beyond measurement- and so is achievement mighty when the thoughts behind it are unfettered and unafraid." -Napoleon Hill

An old book full of wisdom. I am sure most people would focus on grow rich, but i read it because "peace of mind", i think peace of mind is the most precious quality to us, carefree, sleep well no worries. Therefore once you own this peace, you are able to extend to more potential.
A sequel to his famous “Think and Grow Rich.” This book shows you the main presumptions of Hill’s advice, but it is written later in life, so he incorporates other important lessons, which help us understand why it’s also important to enjoy the spoils of monetary wealth.
Napoleon was indeed a transcendent being, or at least factually was contacted by transcended masters, and this shows clearly in one of his final installments to humanity in this benevolent work of grace.
Loved it. This book came years after he published think and grow rich and his growth, maturity and wisdom are sensed and comforting all through the book.
Oh how rich! I am at a loss for words with endearment for the experience of enrichment this book has imparted upon me. You will be doing yourself a favor to read this and will be beginning a process that will ultimately set you free…worth its weight in gold this one…not that it’s profoundly deep or anything like that but for those of you who are looking for why law of attraction and manifestation secrets don’t work I will tell you now the answer is spread out among many books that are of the nature of unlocking the mind in the ways your mind is uniquely locked…for me this was another golden nugget or golden secret to uprooting the weeds of my mind that mar my mental garden…may you find all of yours in this book or the next…one day…
