I enjoyed reading this book and found it to be entertaining and engaging. The MC is good and was a strong character to start with that was engaging. The female characters are strong and starting to develop a good backstory.Overall I enjoyed it.
That was excellent, a fun read of a hero with a dark alter ego inside of him, we follow Bracks as the main protagonist, when an army appears out of nowhere, destroys his home and kills his king, but Bracks was absolutely powerless to do anything about it, rumours of an ancient evil power is rising, Bracks teams up with three beautiful warrior woman one an Elf with their magical powers, he must take the fight to the enemy, no matter the cost to his soul and his heart with the women vying for his love, awesomely fast pacing, lots of magical action and battles, very sexual explicit content in some of the scenes, might not be for some readers, fantastic characters, plot and setting, the narration by Gary Furlong is just class, highly recommend...🧝♀️😁⚔
Good book. It could do with a bit more backstory about the land. It's a very central part of the story yet we aren't told much about it. At the end of the book it says it's a very fragmented continent, and that's how it felt, but the characters insist to address the city (?) as a kingdom, and really there is a king there, but how big is this kingdom? It feels like it is just that city and that's it, but it should really be a bit more explicit. The "city" itself is more like a village, really.
The characters are fine, the dialog is good... The monologue of the MC with Legent gets a bit tiring, I hope he takes it down a notch next book.
Okay so lmao, I forgot I had read the Curse of the Gods series so that might be why this one showed up on Audible. Well, it was interesting enough that I will read the second book but the plot stalled at various points and like, nothing happened. At some point, the sex just seemed like filler material and irrelevant to the story. The other series was reverse harem, which is a thing that I had no idea about, and this was a regular harem? I don't know what the term is, HA! Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised that the MC wasn't an asshole and the way that female characters were depicted, making them be strong and intelligent and not just objects in the background. Overall, the plot was good but I wish there was more story development to go with it. For example, after the invasion, the only course of action is to go to the mountain to obtain the power. It's this super scary dark power and everyone is just good to go. I don't know, stuff wasn't explained that well, in my opinion. Another example is the world; the king dies but it seems like he only ruled over the town? Everything seemed disconnected. Oh, and there is no explanation of what the other races are or why there are few elves remaining. If there are dark elves, are there also "good" elves? Things like that.
And final note: I now know that there is a book for everything! Amish romances are apparently a thing, along with hotttttt romance fantasy, and "tea cozy" mysteries where cats crack the case? I wonder what the Audible algorithm will recommend for me next, lol.

Cliche, boring, and just very very bland. That is really all I can say about the book. If you would like to hear my rant about specifics that is bellow.
To start nothing in the book was very original, it was so cliche that the book basically spoiled itself. The action scenes were also pretty boring, since it usually involved someone just standing and watching others fight while in shock or something. A big turn off for me is that all of the characters try very hard to be funny, and the jokes feel forced and in most situations inappropriate. At the very beginning when the city is razed, the MC feels emotional in one sentence then starts joking around in the next. And again, the relationships are shallow and forced. The girls are a little flirty, then there is one big attempt at an emotional scene and bam +1 girl in the harem.
Again, the biggest issue I have is the lame attempts at humor. The humor doesn't match the setting, you have death and destruction in one part, then slapstick humor in another and it constantly shakes up the mood. It just makes the book feel very immature and the overall scope of the story unimportant. You would usually expect dark or witty humor disguised in the darkness and danger, not cheap jokes and "bro" humor.
A story filled with heroic deeds and two evil powers that battle over a fairly small part of a continent mainly one castle and the surrounding country side. Overseas invaders with evil magic manage to overcome the castle but our hero with his skilled friends, one a childhood friend, the other an elvish assassin work together to unleash a great also evil power in an effort to defeat the enemy. The main characters are well written, but occasionally seem to break out of character at unlikely moments to build the sexual tension early to mid book. But in saying that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it was just good fun, and I will embark on the next book tomorrow. This is a harem book with the MC enjoying sexual activity with multiple strong female characters, if that is not something you are interested in, please don’t read this book, personally I liked it ;-)
This book was written in a style that made it fun and entertaining right down to the last word. Of course three enchanting female warriors all enamored with the hero and yet not jealous of each other has to rank high on a fantasy scale. Most enjoyable was the realistic banter accompanying the telling of the tale. The challenges facing “Braks” were well developed and graphically detailed. All of which made this a non-stop read. If there’s to be more, I’m on it. I highly recommend this book.
2.5 stars, it was okay at times but no real magic until near the end. It has some okay character development but it is slow at times and the story/plot suffers for that. I don't think I will continue with the series as I did not enjoy it that much to continue. This book does have some adult situations (fyi).
This was an entertaining story with a wee bit of explicit 'romance'. The story follows a soldier who is going after the people who took over his kingdom. Aided by a dark elf and childhood friend, he encounters magical elements while en route to discovering how to defeat his enemy. The sexy times are sprinkled throughout and don't overwhelm the story. About to start book two.
Another excellent series by Mark Albany. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and definitely buying book 2. Love the storyline and good characters that build as you move through the book. Can’t wait to see what Braks does going forward.
A story about an ordinary soldier who through strenght and perseverance gained friend's and a powerful entity that helps him regain his king and kingdom
a good fantasy story well paced and fleshed out just enough to not be over the top on the details, glad I didnt have to wait for book 2 too get released since its already out :)
It's not bad. It's just slow and misleading. The cover makes it look like a fantasy book with magic and whatnot. But magic doesn't really play a major role till the second half or so of the book.
I liked this book a lot. Found the MC strong but not overly strong as to out power the other characters. The women were smart and sexy, yet could kick ass with the best of them. The villain was well written and you wanted to see him get his ass kicked in the end. Overall, a very fun ride and I can't wait to read number 2. Well done Mark!
