Jilted Valerie sat in her wedding dress trying to understand what went wrong after Dillan left her standing at the alter. She and her father had to explain to their guests why there would not be a marriage ceremony. The humiliation alone was enough to make her fall apart, but with the help from her father, they made it through the afternoon encouraging their guests to enjoy the prepared celebration meal. As she sat on the steps in her back yard, she determined to fulfill a childhood dream and go to the ocean cottage she reserved for their wedding trip. It was not exactly how she planned to spend her honeymoon, but it was something she always wanted to do. Many of the people she met along the way helped her to adjust to her new reality. The excitement of experiencing her lifelong dream, Valerie blossomed as she explored the shore of Edgewater Cove until she met Rachael, a woman able to identify with the jilted bride. Rachael and Valerie helped each other overcome circumstances they had no control over in the first place. When Garth showed up with his daughter, Clara, Valerie learned what it meant to love someone the way a man and woman were expected to.
I quite enjoy Jean Kuhnke's stories. This one is about a woman who is all ready on her wedding day to say her vows, she gets to the front of the church and her grooms says, "Ooops, I need to marry someone else." Valerie braves the storm and handles the situation with grace and calm. She decides that she needs to go on her "honeymoon" trip by herself, it is her dream trip and she paid for it - so why not. One month on the ocean. There aren't tantrums or crying why's - just a woman who realizes that her life is going in a different direction and she wants to know what God has in store for her. I love what we find out at the end of the story on how she deals with the emotions when she gets to the beach - very good!
Garth is attracted to Valerie the first time he sees her and is honest with her about his daughter Clara, who is a sweet-heart! Garth and Valerie, both, at that time, not wanting to get involved with anyone, form a strong friendship.
There is also Rachael, the wonderful neighbor who shares her heart and home with Valerie.
It's just a feel good story. I did think the ending was awkward. It just kept going on. When I thought, awww, what a great ending, there was another chapter! LOL! But, all good information and continuation of the story.
Loved the story line of the jilted bride who finds love in an unexpected way. After being jilted, the ex-bride -to-be decides to go on the honeymoon by herself. She meets a man with a child and an older lady who lost the love of her life when he never came home from sea.
A bride jilted at the altar who dares to take her honeymoon alone to the seashore to escape gossip meets an elderly woman who befriends her with a similar sad story. Finding friendship, she is introduced to an artisan with a young daughter who she has much in common with. Her Christian faith allows her to move on to a better match. Enjoyed this sweet and clean historical Christian romance.
What a book it was about heart ache love God's blessing family it is an awesome book reaching out to others putting others first but most of all it is about you did again Jean love your books
It’s here, after all the planning and planning for the wedding the day is here! As we meet at the altar, I get a sorry I can’t marry you. Then he rushes away to leave me to explain.
I enjoyed this book very much. It is a short, sweet, wholesome Christian Historical story. It is all about high morals, God's love and clean living, but did not get boring. It was a sweet story full of love. I highly recommend it for a refreshing enjoyable read.
What a really nice story, I loved the setting and that the author introduced taboo subjects in to the story and how the family dealt with them at that time in history.
Clean enjoyable story of Valerie, who was jilted at the altar just before the wedding. Her Christian faith carries her through the difficult days after.
I enjoyed this book so much. I like strong characters who overcome sad things and go on to have good lives while blessing others. It is Christian fiction and a sweet storyline.
