Took wwaaaayyyy tooooo llooooonnnggg for this romance to develop. This one is for folks who want a story with a teeny tiny bit of romance thrown in at the last. Also, this had a very complicated family storyline that needed much more for the reader to feel that anything really was settled. This was my first read of this author and it turned me off of reading anything else she has written.

First, this is a story from 2008 and it shows in a lot of the references. Instant messenger, Sn (screenname), Cingular wireless. Threw me off quite a bit but that’s not where I had issues.
The pacing of the story was meh. 2/3 of the book is slow and mostly commentary from the leads to others since they are separated. The last 1/3 starts really digging into Lucky’s family issues and working to resolve them. I liked that last section a lot. Lucky has a lot of growth.
Cait just didn’t do it for me. I wouldn’t call her selfish but she was very inconsiderate. She never really cares about anyone else’s feelings about her actions. She’s well educated so you would think she’d be smarter than getting pregnant (after using a fertility specialist, not cheap) but can’t even get a job that pays the rent. Her moves were emotional and self soothing without thought of consequences. She spends they whole time in serious mourning over her husband without any actions to actually move on. Even in the end I had no confidence her relationship with Lucky would actually last.

Better then expected.
This really tugs at the heartstrings. In a beautiful way. Wish there had been a bit more beyond what the ending is. May read more of this author, cause she gets the essence of the heart right.

So emotional
This book had me crying for the first couple of chapters and then again for the last few chapters. My heart went out to Cait for everything she went through. Then to have Lucky show up in her life when he did, it seemed like things would get better for her. Lucky was trying to come to term with the direction his life ended up going but being around Cait made it hard. Cait was trying to sort out her feelings for two guys but the hormones kept getting in the way. When the big secret finally gets out, she has some big decisions to make but Lucky believes that he won't be part of it. I wish the ending had been a little bit longer but overall I'm satisfied with the ending.

I feel like there was so much potential with a story line like this, but my head hurt everytime I thought about the family tree...plus I didn't care much for the h.. Never a good sign, right?

Plot: Caitlin was only married about three months when her SEAL husband was killed in action. In her grief, she discovers that her husband, Luke, put a deposit in a sperm bank, and so she decides to have his baby. After she becomes pregnant, though, she is told there was a mix-up: she was actually impregnated by her husband's half-brother, also named Luke (but goes by Lucky). She didn't even know he had a half-brother! The two of them decide to keep it a secret, but as they get to know one another, that becomes more difficult. In the end, who are they to one another? Tenuously related or something more?
Commentary: Wow, Lucky's dad was one horrible SOB. First, there was the whole naming thing (which I know was his second wife's doing, but he should have said something). And then the fact that he essentially abandoned his first two kids and hero-worshipped the third. And I don't think the moms are guiltless in this either! I'm surprised Bruce and Lucky were as well-adjusted as they were, and that might be the military more than anything else. One piece of advice in the book did stand out to me. Cait's dad told her not to make any big decisions the first year after Luke died. So what did she do? Got pregnant, moved, and took up with another man. So nothing major, right? Ultimately, it all worked out for her, and if she hadn't disregarded her father, there wouldn't have been a plot, but he was definitely right. She wasn't in a good frame of mind to make decisions like that. It was really luck (and Lucky) that she didn't end up destitute with the baby without a place to live. I wasn't very fond of her as a character. She was impulsive (and all her reminiscing showed that that impulsiveness was nothing new) and didn't spend a lit of time thinking about how her actions would affect others. Did she need to base her final decisions on the opinions of others? No, of course not, but I don't think she even took them into consideration. I did like Lucky as a character though. He didn't start from a good place, and it was difficult for him to see the kind of person he had become - someone with integrity, always thinking of others, trying to be the bigger person. He was a good man when it all came down to it, and he'll be a good dad-uncle to that baby (and I swear the words "white trash" never crossed my mind, nope, not me!).

This was just not good, you can tell it’s an old book because of the dated writing style. That being said, the plot was messy, I didn’t like the characters, no romance, and it dragged. The ending was meh too.

Be responsible for Cait who happens to be carrying his baby due to a mix up at a ferity clinic. When they destroyed her husband's Sperm instead of Lucky's. Now while Cait is going thru double headache, she has to meet, accept & get help from his older brother.
Lucky will do everything he can to take care of his child even be the uncle when its born. He has just retired from the Marines & is only willing to stay w/Cait until she gets on her feet.
See the three months they kept in contact while he was in Iraq, he fell in love with Luke's widow.
Cait doesn't know when she stopped loving Luke and fell Head over heels for Lucky. She just knows she wants to know more about her baby's father & their family. When she decides to leave San Diego because of the memories of her late husband & move to Colorado where Luke & Cait got a home as a wedding present from Big Calhoun. Lucky thinks this is a bad idea. His father never thought twice about his two older children. Only Luke Jr. #2. Which is why the mix up in the disposal of the wrong sperm. Wife #2 decided to name her son Jr. as well.
This story has heart emotional baggage, acceptance and forgiveness. Love the military Slow building Romance!

He’ll sacrifice it all for her happiness and well being...
Oh WOW!! I was pleasantly surprised with this beautiful and touching story. Starting it left me a little confused at first, trying to wrap my head around all the same names and family dynamics... and all that happens to set this amazing story up. Oh WOW!! Look beneath that gruff surface that is Luke “Lucky” Calhoun, you see such a heart of gold. He made me cry!
When we assume what’s on the surface level of a person, our first impressions can often leave us misguided. Luke “Lucky” and Caitlin are having a baby... normally this would be a joyous occasion but what if you didn’t know each other existed. Awkward times ahead for sure.
The emotions and feelings that run through this book will touch your heart. They are both struggling but without trust, communication and really knowing each other it’s going to be difficult, especially when they both feel unwanted and at a loss with how to accept what is. It’s a journey for them both and their families... that is beautifully captured also through out the words that Rogenna has gifted you with this story - THE MARINE’S BABY, MAYBE.
It will take a great deal of trust, strength, courage and compromise to work through all the ramifications this pregnancy brings. That there is always someone special that will make an impact, in more ways than can be counted that lead us to new possibilities and something lasting. Trying love again is possible, maybe??

I liked the plotline and was so disappointed when the execution was done so badly.
The heroine is said to be an educated woman even with a PhD in pharmacy, but she behaves absolutely brainless. As a widow she is going to be a single mom, so she has to make sure to have a good paying job during the pregnancy to be able to save some money and have family or many friends close by as a safety net for later. She even struggles now to pay the bills and her former neighbours/friends have vanished.
I didn't understand why she settled with the clinic for such a low sum, having a strange man's baby causes quite an emotional pain as she was fixed to have a piece of her beloved Luke.
I hate loose ends in a story: why were the bills coming in the beginning? Why did Luke buy such an expensive engagement ring he apparently couldn't afford therefore the payment by installments?
Why did he join the army and didn't work in his father's business? What happened to Lucky's contesting his settlement?
There were many side characters who were introduced but didn't contribute anything to the story, very disappointing.

Caitlin Calhoun was at a loss. Her husband of 3 months was killed in action. As she searches for a place to stay, she knows that she needs to stay close to her husband. Her father wants her to move home. She has decided to work and put her degree to use. She also has made other plans. Lucky Luke Calhoun Jr. is used to be mixed up with his half brother Luke. Mail and packages have been switched and it was no big deal. Only this time, the mix up was at the cryobank where they keep specimen in case the soldier never makes it home. Imagine when both are informed of this mix up. All the old slights have come back. Can he pretend to be an uncle when he really is a father? Can he stand to be around his family? Caitlin wants family and so she decides to move near the Calhoun family. With this child, it is time for all the old hurts to be solved. In the process, an old Master Sergeant at the VA sends Lucky a gift. I can just picture this puppy. Love the puppy, love the child. Who knew love could come around for a second time for Caitlin and the first time for Lucky.

However, it doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of the story. At its core, regardless of the time period, it is a second chance at love romance. Added to their drama, there is the wounded brother, the demanding mother-in-law and the jerk of a father-in-law. But through it all, they find a way to come together for this new baby. And in the process find a life and love they never thought they would ever have. I thoroughly enjoyed The Marine’s Baby, Maybe. It was sweet, fun, and sexy. There were a few tears, a few heart tagging moments and even laughter. I highly recommend The Marine’s Baby, Maybe.

I was very impressed by the depth of this story. It is very emotional, and I could not put it down. I read the whole thing in one day because I had to know what was going to happen. I knew it would end happily, but I had no idea how they would get there. Lots of things had to be worked through first: Caitlin's grief, Lucky's deployment, and all the complications of Lucky's family. It was quite a lot, but it all happened very naturally and in a reasonable time frame. The subplot involving Lucky's family was expertly crafted to complement the main plot, something you don't get from many writers. The characters were consistent and compelling. The plot was realistically dramatic and not dripping with angst. I loved every page of this book, and I will definitely read it again. Since this is listed as book 1, I will be waiting anxiously for book 2. I hope it is about Bruce; I loved him! I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys military romance or family dramas or just a well-crafted story.

This was an emotional read. Cait’s husband Luke was KIA shortly after their wedding. She was lost but the day she had to move out of her home on base she received a letter from a sperm bank asking if her husband wanted to continue to have his sperm saved. Caitlyn felt compelled to use his sperm to carry his baby so she’d have a part of him still with her. They hadn’t known each other long before they married and were only married a few months before he was killed but that didn’t diminish the love she had for him.
Unfortunately there is a mistake at the sperm bank and she was impregnated with Luke’s brother Lukes sperm. Yep both were named Luke but One went by Lucky.
So the story really starts once that is revealed. It’s an emotional rollercoaster ride for Caitlyn and Lucky. Rotating each other and dealing with lots of guilt, confusion and the beginnings of love.

Caitlyn was a widow right after she married Luke Calhoun; he died serving his country. She found out he had stored his sperm and decided to put it to use. Three months along and she found out a mistake had been made; she was pregnant with his half-brother’s baby with the same name! Calhoun is what he called himself to differentiate from his dead half-brother. He found out about the mix-up and wanted to care for Cait and the baby. Once he met her, he was taken by her looks and her charm. His other half-brother Bruce was also in the picture. Family dynamics were severely messed up with the Calhoun clan. Once he manages to take her into the family fold, the truth would eventually surface, especially how they feel about one another~ Will the truth about the baby bring everyone together or tear them apart, especially the true parents?

Well if this wasn’t one of the more confusing books in terms of familial relationships I don’t know what is. It’s the story of Caitlin who is married to navy SEAL Luke who is killed in Afghanistan. She is artificially inseminated after his death but there’s an error and she’s inseminated with his half brother (also named Luke but know as Lucky) who is also serving overseas. Lucky isn’t so sure about it and Caitlin is ok with it and wanting Like to be in hers and the baby’s life.
It’s a tricky moral story, with complicated familial relationships. I wasn’t a fan of Caitlin - she was hard to warm to and Lucky was seemingly happy to take whatever was dishes out to him. It was messy and Caitlin didn’t really develop as a character though there’s a tad of growth for Lucky. It’s a far lengthier read than it needs to be as well and is definitely dated ‘back in the day’.

I gave this book 4 stars because even though the heroine wasn't my cup of tea, the hero was, and I enjoyed the slow-burn, though the abrupt sort of solution to everything was ... well, a little too abrupt for my tastes!

Not to mention, after kicking him to the curb, she then thought hey, he'll DEFINITELY be there for the baby's birth, right??
Man Lucky was a whole lot more of a saint than I would have been, that's for sure.

Caitlin was married to Lucky’s half brother Luke who died when he was deployed as a Navy Seal. Caitlin decides she wants to have Luke’s baby so goes through IVF, only to find out later the donor wasn’t her husband but his half brother who has the same name. Lucky, a Master Sergeant in the Marines, finds out about the error in the IVF process. As he corresponds with Caitlin he takes more responsibility for her and the baby. Caitlin and Lucky both have emotional feelings to work through before the baby arrives. I liked both characters, Caitlin’s strength as she tries to work through her husband’s death, Lucky for taking responsibility for Caitlin and the baby that she wants to keep secret as to the father. This is a good 1st book and I would definitely read more books by this author and in this series.

A surprisingly enjoyable surprise baby, proximity romance that I thought was cleverly written and sweet. Also, the heroine's name is Cait, which was fun for me, as I rarely see it written on the page.
After the tragic loss of her husband in the line of duty, his widow decides to have his baby, using the sperm bank which keeps samples for all military personnel. But there is a mix-up at the sperm bank, and instead of carrying her late husband's child, Cait ends up pregnant by her husband's half-brother, who is also in the military and who has a very similar name.
Luke (Lucky) Calhoun Jr. is shocked to find his late estranged half-brother's "widow-bride" carrying his baby. They plan to keep everything a secret and pass the child off as his brother's, but as Lucky and Cait spend time together, he finds that it's not going to be enough to be a distant "Uncle Lucky".
I really liked the slow burn of their relationship and the fact that Cait is pregnant basically for the whole book, and how that drives the story.
This book contains a mild descriptive love scene.

I enjoyed reading this story. As a Navy brat (Dad was Navy). I have an appreciation for the Military all branches. I was lucky to have my Dad all my childhood into adulthood. He passed away 4 yrs ago. I still miss him.

A very nice book, although I had the feeling Cait occasionally needed a good shake. Some of the protagonists' character traits were too good to be true, or a bit too much on the stereotype side, but all in all, I really enjoyed reading the story about the Marine and his maybe baby...
What I cannot understand is, how did Lucky get Cait's personal detail, including telephone number and even resideny from googling her? I would have though that - especially as the wife of a US Forces member, she would have been more diligent with her personal data on the internet. And I know most of my American friends, who do not have any connection to any military, are more cautious with protecting their data.

It was bad enough that Caitlin's new husband was killed overseas--When she decided to have his baby anyway--a big screw up occurred! Bad enough she did not even know he had a half brother who had the same name (actually 2 of them)--but how was she going to tell this guy that she might be having his baby or maybe his brothers.
Lucky was dumb founded but he was determined to help this woman--and then leave. Well--there is a very happy ending to this tale. Of course there as a bit of back and forth and familial intrusions!
This novel will make you smile, laugh a bit and even make a tear or two drop but in my opinion you will love it!!

Thought the plot was interesting but it ended up being disappointing. I could not see any chemistry nor connection between Luke and Cait, because they barely interact or banter for the whole of the book.
They finally have their first kiss in chapter 14, and while I’m fine with slow romance, my issue is that they are kissing when they do not have chemistry with each other at all. Literally no romantic development. The hero and heroine barely did anything to justify the “I love you” realization they both had at the last two chapters.
I could not like Luke and Cait either. There wasn’t much things about them I could find to love.

Okay but didn't have me glued to the page. Falling for your dead husband's brother seems like a recipe for disaster really, but it was a nice story in its way.
Lucky seems like he was an a*****e to his brother for no good reason, he seems okay with his other brothers, so that was a bit weird.
I liked the character of Bruce, and it looks like he gets his own story, so I'd like to read that.
There was a bit of unanswered questions with the debts Luke had left, what was with that, and what happened to them?

What an Amazing story! As a veteran myself, this story was doubly special. This is an amazing, heartwarming and beautiful story about family(how they make us who we are), love and life, which is sometimes messy and complicated, but still amazing and not something you want miss.
Rogenna Brewer is a gifted story teller. Her stories are pro active and moving. I definitely recommend this book to all who live for romance and love.

The Calhoun family sounds like something from a Jerry Springer Show until they display their true selves. I loved Lucky (Luke Jr) he was the real deal and the hero of this story, a good honorable man. Caitlin was a little harder to like she seemed shallow at first but grief and pregnancy hormones will do that. I enjoyed the slow building relationship between these two and the rest of the Calhoun Clan. This book is well-written with great characters and an amazing plot.

Not knowing he has a half brother with the same name. There's A mix up in the super bank and she ends up pregnant by her brother in laws sperm. Meeting him for the first time on his arrival from Iraq, Caitlyn starts to have feelings for him.

Really a weird story. Almost didnt make it through the first few chapters. The family explanation was just bizarre — totally dysfunctional. Both Lucky and Cait were extremely messed up. Almost put it down several times but slogged through. The end was the best part. But Cait’s refusal to get over her late husband (continually watching their wedding video even in front of Lucky) ruined the whole thing for me.
