A Hexy Mystery.

You think you know the world of magical boarding schools? Not from a teacher’s perspective at a school for at-risk youth.

Clarissa now understands how deeply her magic rules over her—and why she cannot trust herself or her magic. She would like nothing more than an easy year of teaching, sharing a dorm room with a roommate who isn’t a wicked witch, and for Fae to stop attacking her, but fate has other plans for her. . . .

The Raven Court and the Silver Court know what Clarissa is and understand she is the key to solving the Fae Fertility Paradox. They will stop at nothing to renew their numbers and enslave anyone who can bear their heirs.

With no one she can trust, friends keeping mysteries of their own from her, and no one to turn to, Clarissa has to hide her forbidden magic—as well as her student’s magic—a difficult task when Clarissa uncovers a plot to expose their secret powers.

*** I received an advanced e-copy from the author in exchange for my honest review

Thatch is accused of using inappropriate magic on Clarissa, everyone becomes aware of the fact that she is a red affinity, and she wants a new roommate. Clarissa's best friend Josie is keeping secrets, Prince Elric is keeping company with Clarissa's frenemy roommate, and Clarissa feelings are torn between Thatch and Elric. This book is so action packed that I couldn't put it down, and I didn't want the story to end. I love this series and each book in the series seems to be even better than the one before. I highly recommend it!

Yet another great book in the Womby’s School series – and this one has more action and surprises than most. Meek and mild Josie has a rather horrifying secret that comes to light in a devastating way. There is a very suspicious lightning strike that may have been directed at Clarissa. Thatch is still rubbing Khaba up the wrong way (and not on his tattoo!). Vega has picked up Elric after Clarissa has rejected him, though Elric has not given up on Clarissa yet. And we always knew that Jeb was a bumbling idiot, but now his true colours are revealed.
Clarissa is now in her third year teaching at Womby’s and although she is much more settled, things are not getting easier, even with the students, who clearly love her:
“Somehow I had always imagined being a teacher would be like the Sound of Music when Baron von Trapp blew his whistle and the students became orderly and mindful . . . like magic.”

I am sure that every new teacher believes that once the students realise how much you care about them, your subject and the joy of learning, the little horrors will bend over backwards to be attentive and learn everything you put in front of them. I certainly did. It doesn’t take long for the illusion to be shattered. (FYI blowing a whistle for attention is a red rag to a bull – I was warned, but was too arrogant and idealistic to listen!)
Vega is still – at least to all intents and purposes – a blood thirsty, amoral witch only interested in furthering her own advantages, with seriously worrying taste in décor:
“It was hard to pinpoint what about the room reminded me of the Addams family—on crack. An old-fashioned cuckoo clock rested on the wall between beds, not so different from the one my grandma had in her house, but this one screamed when the alarm went off.”

But, now her mask may be slipping, revealing an almost caring personality:
“I knew Vega was powerful, but I had never known stone walls and distance wouldn’t stop her from using her magic. Seriously, I wondered why she didn’t just take over the world. It wasn’t her lack of power or her moral compass stopping her. It had to be something else. Maybe she did have a little bit of a heart.”

I love the character of Vega – even if she should turn out to be less than fully psychopathic.
This was one of the best books in the series so far, and if you haven’t started on the series yet – please do – you are in for a real treat. As always, highly recommended.

First off, you realize that when I have already read 9 books in this series and am eagerly reading the 10th then it's a series that I really like. Clarissa is somehow managing to survive in a school where two different Fae courts want her for their own reasons, the principal wants to get rid of her (he's basically a lousy drunk) and she's still attracted to Thatch who can often be rather nasty to her.

The students in her art class really like her, though, and it's obvious she is having a very good effect on them.

Vega, her roommate, is spying on her, Elric wants her for her ability to produce children, the custodian might be evil, Vega might be responsible for some dangerous lightning and there's a student production on All Hallow's Eve in which Imani could very well end up outing her powers and end up with Fae who want to use her for their own ends.

Even after nine other books the characters remaining interesting, the various events significant and you can never be really sure about anyone's motives.

If you haven't started with the earlier books, you've missed out on a lot of interesting, funny, and informative background to Book 10. You should start with Book 1 and read your way forward. That's what I did, and it makes a big difference to your enjoyment of later books in the series. Book 10 continues the saga of Clarissa Lawrence, who is starting her third year as Fine Arts and Crafts teacher at Womby’s School for Wayward Witches. It builds quite a lot on the previous books in the series. There are (as usual) many misadventures and misunderstandings among and about her friends and colleagues, some quite surprising, unexpected and horrifying. She finally decides between Elric and Thatch (at least for now).

Are Ex's Worth the Trouble?

Clarissa struggles to figure out if she really wants her Prince or her Professor or maybe her affinity is leading her stray. We follow our protagonist as she tries to protect Imani and, as a result, gets herself into trouble (again). She learns more about her affinity and the powers she has. That leads to a promising situation and a very compromising and unsafe event.

The continuing character development of Clarissa and her story mates helps to keep the story interesting. The pace was good.

This definitely leads me to want to read the next story in the series.

Clarissa’s world is a mess. Again. She was humiliated by Thatch at the Silver Court. She later realized that she did not love Prince Elric but her affinity did. Both men continue to perplex her. Clarissa and her roommate, Vega, become closer and work together. Sadly, she faces betrayal of someone she considered a much closer friend. Readers never really know who the bad guys and who the good guys are in this series. It keeps you guessing and frustrated at times. But, I wouldn’t miss an installment in this series.

4☆ Hex Crimes by Sarina Dorie
[ New adult, PN series, magic, school,, politics, Fae, Witchkin, family, murder mystery, HFNR]

This episode has so much going on at the same time and I don't want to give the plot away. Key words are listed above. Lots of intrigue, some breaking and entering in persuit of knowledge. As an adopted person, I can empathize with the main character, Clarissa's quest to find her roots, if only to discover where her personal traits came from and the need to know what to watch out for in the future. She loves her adoptive mother and their relationship is close, as evidenced in previous instalments of this series.
Politics, alliances, pride, and the need for children to continue their race are also a common threads throughout this series. The Fae have not had babies and have been at war with each other for so long they have forgotten the emotional skills needed for healthy interactions. Life is both cheap and precious.
The world in which they live in is both harsh and beautiful along with bwing dull of other seeming paradoxes.
This series has great characters and believable world, action, suspense, romance from time to time but also other forms of love and hope to drive characters forward.

Although I have enjoyed this series right from the start, Hex Crimes has to be one of the most exciting volumes with a lot of unexpected situations and character reveals. Wow! Clarissa has come a long way from the naive little Witchkin we met at the beginning of the series. She has made friends, enemies and even some surprising frenemies.

Much is revealed in this instalment. Hex Crimes is the 10th Book in the Womby’s School for Wayward Witches. The plot moved forward in many unexpected and fascinating ways, some pleasant, some terrifying. The plot thickens as the saying goes and it seems to hold true for this series. There are surprises in every episode. Even when you are confident that you know the characters and what will happen next. You don’t! As always, I cannot wait for the next book.

I got this book from the author and have decided to give my review. This is the 10th book in the series and wow it does not disappoint. So much happens in the book I am still processing it two days later. Shocking, sexy and amazing is the only way I can describe this book. Am I happy with the outcome. No ..in one outcome we lose a wonderful liked character. I guess things are not always what they seem. This book I think has blown me away the most. Sarina Dorie you have one hell of an imagination. Thank you.

entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. Great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Once again we are following the adventures of Clarice an art teacher who is a witch at a school for wayward which is in the supernatural world. If you’re reading this then you know what’s going on and a lot of things are getting ready to come to ahead. So get settled and start reading and find out what’s gonna happen with Clarice and her friends and enemies this time. Enjoy

We revisit the crypt beneath the Womby school library and engage in dialogue with dead instructors, with Vega's assistance. The capture of lightning on the school's roof has revealed roots of a conspiracy in Womby's staff stretching back hundreds of years, but in exchange for Josie's cushy tower room, the lid finally blows off-- if only Clarissa can survive the big reveal! Everyone's loyalties are put to the test when truths surface.

Five big stars.

Just finished Hex Crimes book 10 by Sarina Dorie. I'm afraid I wasn't to thrilled with it. This may be because I started out at book 10. I do have a bad habit of doing that. Soooo I will start at book 1 and work my way up. It's hard go get the gist of things when you are so far behind.
I will start at book 1 and give it another whirl. But it does have promis if you know what's going on.

Fantastic

Have you ever been so engrossed in the characters of a book that you would like to take out of few of them...like maybe violently? That is when you know it is a really great series. There are a few characters in this series I would like to do that to,that is how great it is! 😁

Whew!! I made it through the 10 book goal. I loved every page of it. I believe I know the answers to a few of the questions that come up in the series. Like what is with that picture of Clarissas evil mother? Or will Thatch ever learn to feel and act like a person in love? We shall see. On to book 11 .

An enjoyable continuation of Clarissa's story as a junior teacher at Womby's and her attempts to resolve her conflicting relationships with fae Prince Elric and her mentor, Felix Thatch. In addition, she attempts to share a room with her friend Josie, which causes unanticipated problems, and must deal with problems caused by head teacher, Jeb. A worthwhile read for all of Womby's fans.

This book starts where the last book ended. Clarissa now know who she really loves but how does she expect to get the guy. Clarissa gets to room with her best friend Josie but something is not right. Can you guess what wrong? I received a copy of this book and choice to review it.

As usual the book was great. A couple of characters were not who they seemed, that was shocking! Clarissa, of course, is her normal mess-up-everything she tries-girl. Love her! Heading on to the next book - never take a break in between them. Happy reading!

Had hope..

I have read ten in this series, and I am giving up. First several were good enough to keep my attention. Then it started to fade. I cannot imagine reading even one more of this series at this stage.

Another enjoyable romp(for want of a better turn of phrase) for Clarissa.
The dysfunctional relationship between Clarissa and Thatch offers both humour and sorrow.
A well written and more importantly entertaining read.
