Olympus Earthed #1

Athena: Goddess of Heroes

Rate this book
Alternate cover edition of ISBN 9781983210129

I am an immortal goddess stuck on Earth. To use a modern colloquialism, it sucks!

How did I end up in this infuriatingly-mortal situation? The Earth is in danger once again and my father, Zeus, has sent me to this god-forsaken planet to find a hero to protect it. Only then will I be allowed to return to my rightful place on Mount Olympus.

I, along with several of my siblings, are living among the mortal hoard. Each of us has a mission; mine is to find a modern-day mortal worthy of joining the ranks of Odysseus and Achilles. This Hero must be strong, courageous, clever, and unwaveringly loyal. Even if I find one, and that’s a big if, how am I supposed to get them to trust me? Let alone, willingly follow me into mortal peril? Where might I find such a person? Who could they be?

Athena Goddess of Heroes takes the Athena of myth and legend and leads her down a path to discover the value of humanity. With her siblings ever present, a few old enemies who come out to play, and the developing love of a Hero, Athena is dragged on an action-packed journey that turns her own world up-side-down. Will the goddess of Wisdom choose the logical path that ensures the safety of the world as we know it? Or will she choose to save the one who has awakened her heart, no matter the consequences?

Disclaimer: Let me start of by saying that I received a physical copy of this book from the authors themselves and this in no way effects my thoughts and opinions (also THANK YOU!!)

Athena: Goddess of Heroes is the first book in the Olympus Earthed series out of EIGHT! The first being done from Athena's point of view (obviously) and the other seven will be, Dionysus, Aphrodite, Artemis, Apollo, Ares, Hermes and Persephone. I love a good series thats going to be longer than two or three books as I feel like this is rare nowadays!

Athena is sent to Earth by Zeus to find a modern day Hero, however it's not as easy as it once was as no-one no longer worships the Greek Gods/Goddesses any more and she finds it difficult to tell him she's a Goddess.

I love books about the Greek Gods/Goddesses but I feel there aren't as many of them around in the YA world two that come to mind is Rick Riordan's books and Roshani Chokshi's The Star Touched Queen and now this one! I really enjoyed this and loved the different kind of take on the Gods/Goddesses, I thought that it was refreshing and such a fun read. I found that it was fast paced and detailed, I actually devoured it within a day I liked it so much I just couldn't put it down nor did I want to..

BUT...

a fair warning to you all, the ending will give you all the feels! I honestly didn't see the ending coming, I had some ideas but I sort of shoved them out of my mind just because I knew it wasn't going to be something I wanted.. my heart you guys, I can't say what happens because spoilers but I highly recommend this book to you all! You will fall in love with this version of Athena, her siblings and even the Hero!

I'm so excited to get my hands on book two which is going to be from Dionysus's point of view and I can't wait because he was my favourite character in this one, he's funny, sarcastic and the perfect character. For me this book had the perfect amount of romance, I ship them so much. The perfect amount of action to keep you hanging on for more and for me it was laid out really nicely as well! I also love how that this is a modern take on it as well and that Athena and her siblings still aren't entirely sure how to blend in properly.

So overall, great characters with good development too, I easily grew attached to them all, except Ares. I also couldn't stop picturing him as Remus Lupin (David Thewlis) after seeing him play Ares in Wonder Woman.. anyone else or is that just me?

It has taken me like six days to gather my thoughts to even put this review together.. It was just so good it's one of those books that you're gonna think about until the sequel comes out like 'oh that was a good story, what book was that?? oh.. right the one with no sequel yet ' (I've been doing this all year with The Glass Spare, I'm desperately waiting for The Cursed Sea to come out! SOOOOON!!!)

Okay so overall, buy this book, it's so worth it and you definietly won't regret it!

Actual rating 3.5 stars!
For the beginning of this book, I had a bit of a hard time getting into it. I struggled to even like the main character - finding Athena to be slightly annoying in the things that she did and the way that she talked. The only character that I was interested in knowing more about was Dionysus! He is such a sassy and sarcastic character, and I really enjoyed some of his lines.
Originally, I really struggled with what to rate this. But part way through, it really took a turn in a good direction! There were a few things that happened that I didn't see coming, and I enjoyed getting to know the characters more. I liked seeing the arc of Athena's character, and it was great to see her relationships in her life change for the positive.
I definitely enjoyed this book for the story and the characters in it. Unfortunately, the lack of editing for grammatical and spelling errors was really distracting to me. I had a hard time getting into the story when I was running into errors on multiple pages - possibly simply because I am a grammar Nazi... but if you're able to look past those, the story is great!

I was sent a copy of this book for free from the authors for review (this does not influence my thoughts on the book and all opinions are my own). 4.5 ⭐️ First, I am a huge Greek mythology fan. I was sold on the story from the mention of it. Second, this was a super fast-paced read and highly entertaining! I fell in love with the characters and the premise of all the god/goddess sisters and brothers living together in a huge house on Earth. I love that the authors gave each of the gods/goddesses their own unique personalities so that you could relate to each character in some way or another. I also loved Connor and Athena's relationship. The struggles Athena faces regarding lines in their relationship felt real and honest; where to draw them and where to become blind to the idea of them. I honestly did not see the ending coming or happening the way that it did! I now can not wait until the next story comes out from Dionysus' POV. I need to know what is going to happen! I highly recommend this book if you have any interest in Greek mythology and love a cute, witty, fast-paced fantastical read!

This book is for all fans of Greek mythology or people who love a fun adventure filled with action, danger, and romance. I loved all of the gods as teenagers! Their personalities were spot on and their interactions were fun, hilarious, and even heart-felt. The chemistry between the two main characters was intense and sweet. I can't wait for the next book!

I'm giving up on this one at the 29% mark. I just wasn't enjoying it. More than once, I found it annoying that Athena, the supposed goddess of wisdom, displayed such ignorance.
