Former U.S. Marshal Austin Harper is a wanted man.
He is wanted in Robbers Roost for intercepting their raids at a stagecoach way station in New Mexico. He is wanted for saving a distressed Rachel Dennis.
Now, Harper is facing not just one petty gang of robbers but an entire canyon of criminals operating in a highly organized fashion.
Not that Harper is afraid. But his badly injured leg during his line of duty is a huge encumbrance.
And time is running short. This nefarious bunch is terrorizing a lot of the southwest from a barren and well-fortified canyon in nearby No Man's Land.
Together with his fiercely loyal American Indian friend Eagle, Harper leaps into action to put the marauders out of business permanently. Infiltrating Robbers Roost to take out the leader Wicked Bear is one solution to prevent more innocent lives from being lost.
Harper’s daring move is backed by the U.S. Army, but threatened by sworn adversaries of the American government including renegade Indians, enemy Mexican nationals and Confederate soldiers not willing to give up on the Lost Cause.
There will be bloodshed.
How will the sun set at the canyon terrain of No Man’s Land? Will the sun rise again for Robbers Roost, or for Harper?
A great western adventure with lots of information regarding "The Civil War." The author also gives us reasons why some of the Confederate fighters would not acknowledge that General Lee had surrendered at Appomattox to General Grant in1865. We've all read how hard life was in the west, hardships were accepted and you kept going. Men and women faced all kinds of evil, as one author wrote there were many graves that dotted the land of some poor soul or souls who met the ugliness of their fellow humans. This adventure of a man who believed in the Bible and what it said, as his mother used it to teach him how to read...which was done quite often since books were a premium/luxury item to own. Austin Harper and his friend Eagle were a dynamic duo, they complemented each other's fighting ways. Harper would say he trusted his life with Eagle...a fast moving comprehensive western, that explained how the disfrancized Confederate solders, escapees from the reservation and Mexican bandits who were driven out of Mexico to wherever, usually joined up with crazy mixed up men who were fixated on starting another government within the United States...does it sound like anarchists, secessionists or just plain treasonous ideas...going no where...
A WB. Western/Indian Raids/Outlaws/Ex Confederate Soldiers/Under One Tent

An he two men out their plan in action and the hunt begins. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
I hate reading about the civil war because of all of the atrocities and wasted lives! This book was about a nut-job confederate soldier who had grandiose ideas of creating his own government and nation. So out of it was he—that he thought his band of outlaw Indians, Mexicans, and former confederate soldiers were all innocent in their killings, thievery, and raping. So glad for heroes like Harper and Eagle. I love to read about good, honest, crafty, stealthy, Indians!
This book received a five star rating because it was very well written. It held my interest through every chapter. I loved the characters Harp, Eagle, Rachel, and Cody. Also the author has a way of developing some of the minor characters that make you care about them to. I hope Mr Black writes more adventures with Harp and Eagle soon.
For me, William Black is a new light on the horizon. Harper is a well rounded character, the plot is intricate but not excessively so. Despite my frustration with a few bad word choices, I will happily pounce on another novel by Mr. Black.
This was an excellent western story. The author created quite a good cast and used them well. Action was the key word, adventure its companion. All non stop and leaving you asking for more.
Lots of heroics that are a stretch to the imagination. A “gee whillikers” (my words) kind of dialogue. I appreciate there was not a need for cussin’. A dime western novel suitable for an old Roy Rogers movie. Quite imaginative!
Very enjoyable western story with lots of adventure.
The reader will like reading this western adventure. There is exciting adventure and drama with the attacks of the Indians. Justice prevailed in the end of this story.
Wonderful story of ex Marshall Harper. He felt his duty to bring down the exconfederates, and renegades especially after they killed his friends in the PlayStation where he was working. Lots of adventures involved.
A great, fast moving tale that touches on the defeated hearts of the Confederacy and displaced, desperate but evil men. Broken dreams and broken lives on both sides of the law. Made me consider the tragedy of poor direction in life.
Fast paced with lots exciting action. The characters were colorful and either loved them or hated them depending on their role. I look forward to his next book.
The point of view was difficult to follow, but my biggest problem with this one was the foul language. There are ways to express cussing without spelling it out for readers. When books are categorized in Christian fiction, I expect them to be squeaky clean.
If you don't mind head-hopping and cussing, the story was good.
