As a young adult Lupano worked as a server to finance his studies in philosophy and English. With his friends and creative partners, Roland Pignault and Fred Campoy, he created the humorous western Little Big Joe, among other works.

This book is laugh-out-loud hilarious!
A group of creatures living in a woodland community are on the lookout for the local wolf. They’re deathly afraid of him and now the whole community is equipped with anti-wolf fences, wolf traps, wolf-defense education class, and even wolf crime novels for entertainment.
“High above the forest lives the wolf. An icy cry. Crazy eyes.
In these woods, we know to move our butts when the wolf comes down to eat.”
Animals have disappeared and everyone wonders who’ll be next. All the creatures are living in fear and their days revolve around this. One day, the wolf shows up and he’s not what everyone expected. Everything becomes a disaster as they try to re-evaluate their purpose and decide what they’ll do with their lives now that they no longer need to live in fear.
My son and I were laughing throughout the book. The illustrations are perfect and the format keeps the book interesting with lots of little tidbits and clues. We were hoping the book would go on further and didn’t want it to end.
I think this book would be perfect for all young readers, especially those who struggle with reading. There are more illustrations than text in the book and it’s a quick, funny read. We’re looking forward to the next book.

перший том «вовка в трусах» розповідає про силу пропаганди і демонізацію окремих спільнот: якщо вміло спрямовувати суспільні страхи, можна отримати і славу, і владу, і гроші, і білочки з бобрами цим активно користуються. щоправда, поки на стигматизованих осіб вішають несправедливі звинувачення, справжні зловмисники залишаються на волі й далі можуть чинити кривду — та коли у вас уже є визнання, влада і гроші, це не те щоб ваша проблема, хіба ні?

This was a surprisingly adroit commentary on our culture and capitalization of fear. It was humourous in its biting satire (bad pun). The dark ending is a bad choice as it undermines the overall message and makes this story not really suitable for its target audience of young kids (although I must admit I did enjoy the twisted surprise).

This is a hilarious satirical, picture book about a forest of woodland creatures, convinced that the wolf at the top of the mountain is a monster out to EAT them! In fact, they have built their entire community around being afraid. The animals sell over the top news stories about the wolf’s latest victims, they sell wolf traps, anti-wolf fencing material, and authors even write wolf crime novels.
“Scared of wolves? Have some hazelnuts!” says the squirrel.
But what if the wolf is not so bad?
This is an appropriate story for young and older readers as The Wolf in Underpants is also super silly for younger children. I would love to own this book and read to my preschool kids for years to come! I can not wait to order a copy!

La façon dont l'auteur s'y prend pour évoquer la peur est percutante et la façon dont il a mis en scène ce sujet est hyper intelligente. En privilégient le registre humoristique, en forçant sciemment peut-être certaines choses, ça ne fait que souligner d'autant plus le ridicule de certains événements et autres réactions des animaux vivants dans la forêt. Dans tout ça le loup semble être la voix de la raison, il vit sa vie. Et, le coup du slip, ce qui se cache derrière, du génie, rien de moins.

God I love the French. Leave it to them to create such an awesome picture book/graphic novel. My son was like so-so about the book but I loved it! I immediately wondered about the pigs... if it wasn't the wolf, then whooooo? PS. Surprise endings are the best...

Cute children's story with full color, very cute illustrations. There's nothing like a comfy pair of underpants to make all things right with the world....even for a scary wolf.
Very enjoyable story! Kids would love this for story time, independent reading, or just for fun! :) As an adult, I just needed a cute story to make me smile.....and it worked! There's nothing like a funny children's story to unburden one's mind!
The illustrations are cute with little things going on in the background that will be fun for kids to "find'' while reading or listening to this book.
Totally rad underpants too. I need to find my husband a stripey pair like that! :)

Family Picture Book Read-Aloud Afternoon: A Nine-Book Pile!
A funny book about prejudice and stereotyping and how that is exploited by the fear industrial complex has the residents of a forest trying to figure out how to protect themselves from a wolf who they assume must be the cause of all their problems.
The first part is amusing enough, but I'm adding a star for the shocking final page that caught me flatfooted and left me and my whole family laughing for several minutes.
It's the best book of the day's read-aloud pile and had me immediately placing holds at the library for other books in the series.

The Wolf in Underpants combines humor, great illustrations, and an important lesson in how gossip can lead to unnecessary fear. The woodland creatures have created an entire industry around fearing the big, scary wolf. Newspapers, wolf crime novels, and wolf traps are big sellers until the wolf comes strolling through the forest in underpants! Who can be scared of a wolf in underpants? Now the woodland creatures need to find a new way to pass their time now that the truth is out. My only concern is how dark the ending is and that really would impact how I could use the book in a library and school setting. Loved the illustrations and the lesson.

Clever, devious story! I was just going through our jP collection and found this short read! I wouldn't read it to very small children, but I am thinking older ones might get a kick out of the story! I never would have guessed the ending! Too, too fun and unexpected! Illustrations a are a hoot! Twisted tale!

Bravo! This book is a hoot and I was so afraid that it was going to end on a preachy note but, spoiler alert, it doesn't!

Premise/plot: The forest residents are confident of at least one thing in life: the wolf is to be feared! No doubt about it, an unprepared and uninformed resident is one just waiting to be eaten or devoured. This picture book explores what happens when some actually actually come face to face with the wolf. They are surprised by many many things. For one, he is wearing underpants!!! For another, he is not at all like his description—perhaps with one exception, his teeth are sharp. Could everyone have the wrong impression of the wolf?! Could their preparations have been for absolutely nothing? Is their enemy one of their own imagining?
My thoughts: This is a clever picture book that will appeal to readers of various ages. The wolf is in underwear on most if not all pages. That and the use of the word “butts” throughout will make it hilarious to readers of a certain age. But on a serious note, it says something—something universal—about our culture. There is a market for fear. People can have a livelihood of talking about the enemy, building up fears—all in the name of building awareness, making you prepared, keeping you informed, protecting you and your loved ones. Sometimes what we think we know isn’t worth much. That’s not to say there wasn’t a germ of truth to their fears. The wolf did appear to be vicious and wild, crazy. But that was because of his COLD bum. The underpants that someone kindly knit him and gave him “changed” his life. No matter how much or how little you read into this one, it is an enjoyable read with a few giggles.

TALK ABOUT LABELING!!!! So, we all know that the wolf is ALWAYS big, bad, with sharp teeth, a mangey coat, and sharp claws. RIGHT? Our world is built on those facts... economies are built based on those. SO IMAGINE!!! JUST imagine if none of it was true?
What if the wolf had a cold bottom and just needed underpants to curb all of his bad behaviors... everything but the sharp teeth part. The forest economy would change!
This is colorful and beautifully illustrated book is a must-see... if for nothing else than to see a wolf in underpants... and to find out where he got them!

Super lustiges Buch über den (gar nicht so wirklich) bösen Wolf. Die Geschichte ist wirklich clever und die Zeichnungen total detailliert und witzig.
Ein schöner Comic für jung und alt, in welchem unsere Gesellschaft ordentlich auf die Schippe genommen wird!

Кумедна книжка для найменших про вовка, який виявляється зовсім не "злим і страшним", а добряком у смішних, але й зручних, трусах... Тексту небагато, але купа яскравих ілюстрацій із прикольними деталями та відкритий фінал із поки нерозгаданою загадкою, тож доведеться читати продовження, щоб розкрити цю детективну справу 😉

This is a cute picture book about a wolf and the town that is afraid of him. When they come face to face, they realize the wolf is not what they thought. But since they have built their lives around their fear of the wolf they need to re-evaluate their outlook. The illustrations are lovely and the story is short, funny, and easy to understand. I would recommend this to elementary age children. Special thanks to Netgalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest opinion.

Subversive children's book originally published in France. Very funny, with a shocking ending. The moral of the story: Who benefits (financially and otherwise) when we live in fear, and is there really that much to be afraid of? Also there are butt jokes and a fart joke.

Lovely story about woodland creatures and the big, bad wolf, who isn't so bad after all. Children would love the illustrations and all the little signs and character's lines will keep everyone entertained. Hints throughout the story point to the real culprit behind local disappearances, and leave it up to the owl to know what everyone is up to and needs. Great story!
