Almost three thousand years after an extinction level event on Earth, mankind seeks to regain its former glory, in a new world where magic and technology collide.
After Avalon's tanks and guns lose a massive confrontation against the Knights and magic of Sparo, they finally agree to peace talks.
Laney and the other Templars are chosen to lead the peace envoy that travels to the mysterious land of the north, which has so much of the technology from the Great Wizards of the Before.
The mission is put in peril when they learn who leads the Avalonian peace envoy.
Overtures of peace, amazing discoveries, and duplicitous actions make this the most dangerous mission that Laney, Celeste, and their allies have ever embarked upon. Their actions will mean either the end of hostilities, saving countless thousands of lives on both sides, or the re-ignition of the war between the two lands.

It never seems to end for Laney the Herder, does it? In this next chapter of the Techromancer series, Laney embarks on diplomatic mission with those who had imprisoned the Cristea and enslaved them for their own purposes. Now she is able yo meet with their people and try to see if there can be peace between them.. She is accompanied by her wife, Celeste, and her band of knights and friends whom always seems ready to be there to assist. However, the appearance of the missing Duchess Aelwyn tends to make anyone suspicious of the actions she is involved in. The treacherous feeling that something is quite amiss is never far from the truth with Laney, but now as a Great Mother she has the responsibilities of those people on her as well in these dealings. Her daughters and their antics don't make anything easier, but there is a time when she comes to love their talents and be saved by them. The final battle with Avalon is one that will be remembered for all of time - another dark mark in the book for Laney to carry.

I just... I have no words I just... no words at all. A great end. To a wonderful series yet so many more questions that I wish to know the answers to! I just... I need time to process this. Wow.
Another great installment on the Laney and Celeste saga. I 'read' this via Audible and Hollie Jackson did another wonderful job with the narration. I am looking forward to the next book coming out on Audible at the end of June. I was giggle with glee when the ultimate platypus reference as Laney and the others got to play with one. I kind of hoped that during the escape a side trip for monotreme troops would have been an addition to the Great Mother's party.
Wait, what!!!! Rain and Syl... that is one powerful couple and I love it!!! and what about Misty and Ingr, I mean :-D
Adventure after adventure and love that it makes us thing about what it really is the cost of peace? I am obsessed with getting to the end of the next book so that I can see if we accomplish unity?
I can't put the books down. Read all 5 books over 2 weeks. Love strong female characters, humor and touch of romance. Fun adventures with a blend of magic and technology that works!
And most certainly not least! First of all, the art. I absolutely adore the cover art for the Techromancy Scrolls series, and Avalon might be my favorite. Simple and elegant. As far as the writing goes, this is another great book by wonderful Erik Schubach. It flowed well (other than a few minor mishaps) and really pulls the reader in. I would have liked a bit more elaboration on a few events but understand that there are time and size constraints. A few flashback science K could even see becoming novella sized. Some of my favorite characters are in this series and we got to see some serious relationships develop throughout the book. A lovable read overall!
I have really enjoyed this series and this book is no exception. Well written and a good story. The build up was well structured and developed naturally, the only downside it was a little predictable but even the obvious outcome was presented well and without excessive intrigue. The book has humour and sadness, my personal favourite is a fight that Celeste has towards the end of the book that is set up earlier in the book as a future main fight, but she ends it in a few moves, made me smirk. This book is in the LGBT genre which may put some people off, but honestly if it does look around at the world and get a grip. This is post apocalypse fantasy novel series and is a fantastic and fun read.
Laney, Celeste and the girls travel to the new found land of Avalon bringing with them adventure, bravery, Altii ways and the magik of the people to the frozen land. Daring rescues, witty banter, gypsy charm and air ships continue the story of the chicken herder and her light bringer. Well written engaging and lots of fun. I will admit I read during times that I was supposed to be doing other adult responsibilities but I couldn’t put it down. Thank you Erik please bring us more. I can’t wait to hear of Misty and Inger’s adventures.
You've done it again, Mr. Schubach. This book was just as good as the previous 4. I eagerly await the next. The worst aspect of this novel is the fact that... I'll have to wait for the next. Despite all of the adversity, you have a knack for making me want to enter the inner circle of your main characters. Who wouldn't want kind, generous, intelligent, strong, loyal, brave, and humorous friends? Forgive the plethora of adjectives. Nice job.
The prologue starts with forces of ‘Sparo’ and ‘Avalon’ facing each other. There is a slow and sometimes rambling build up, culminating in a massive one-sided battle. The rest of the book is about the political machinations as ‘Sparo’ negotiate a peace treaty. I always enjoy the stories with Laney and Celeste, but I did find this one a little frustrating, as it was so clear what was happening and even though Laney had so many clues she seemed unable to grasp the obvious. However, the book still kept me engrossed and I was a really enjoyable read.
Once again, Mr. Schumacher, & his platypus, has left us wanting more! Watching Laney grow in her confidence, and with compassion, makes you love her more. I'm glad the adventures will continue!
Ok thus one was slower paced than the ones before it. But I believe it suited the story so.
This was a good addition to this story arc. Though sometimes I wish there was part from the other characters perspective. Especially Celeste , Ranelle ,Udele , and maybe a few more.
I think the other Techromancy Scrolls books should be read before these books. At least the first two, possibly the third one as well.
So as always go ahead and take a chance. I don't think you will be disappointed.....
After complaining over repetitions especially found in the last two books in this series, I feel really pleased at the manner at which character/plot reflections were done in this book and hope the succeeding book(s) will do as much or better.
