Twisting paths
Alice fell down the rabbit hole, Evie plunged into the Dead Fall, but Lauren went through a twisting maze to find her love. And what else could her love be, hidden in that maze, but a Minotaur named Asterius.
Spoilers ahead.
Ok, I have loved the series so far. I even enjoyed this one. Just not as much as the previous two. Alice grew to love her lion man (I honestly have no idea how to spell his name) and Tak. And while things with Tak were rushed a bit, the groundwork had been laid due to her time with Iyaren (is that close? I don't want to call him Liono lol). Evie had her time with Grey before meeting Doshak. She had her relationship building time, too. I feel like things were more rushed with Lauren and Asterius and after the ending of book two I was really looking forward to his story. His story is straight from mythology, with no real deviation other than Grey's "they weren't gods". We have another strong female, not a survivalist like the sisters but an Army Sargeant. She doesn't get much chance to show her training, though. Her Minotaur, though, he gets to show his rough and tough every five minutes. I liked getting to peek in on the sisters and their mates, that was fun. And Friak with his little flamethrower self lol. I'm hoping the chimera book hopefully next up, will have a bit more bonding time. Please! Those building blocks are what make this author's stories so awesome. Finding a paranormal romance without insta-love is like finding a diamond while walking in your backyard. It's beautiful and unexpected and should be treasured.

Great book to continue the series, loved the angry, angsty H. The h was smart, resourceful and brave. He can only be saved by love, and he pushed her to love him. Good world building with their community expanding, and a great addition to the series.

All right. I've read other people's complaints about this book. Now to add my own thoughts...
This book was short. Or it was just... lacking in detail, perhaps? I had a tough time getting a handle on Lauren. I would have certainly never seen her dark sexual desires coming from the description of her in the first half of the book. It worked, but I feel like Lauren pre-50% was a different character than Lauren post-50%. At least Asterius was easy to understand. There was a lot of yummy angst and sexual exploration, although I do have to admit that went away too quickly for my tastes.
Then there's the ending which is what most people are upset by.
First of all, my biggest disappointment so far is still that Evie has not mind locked or whatever with Gray. Seriously, you have the opportunity to read your mate's mind at will and there will never be misunderstandings between you... how could you not go for that???
Second of all, Alice.... and Lauren too.... I understand being squeamish about men fighting, but freaking mythical monsters, after spending weeks or months in their company? On top of that, Alice and Evie have known about this fighting ring being the conflict resolution method, so why is Alice now freaking out? It pissed me off. Either you know your mates, or you don't. Such BS.
Third of all, the ending with the ancilla. I understood completely why Gray acted the way he did, after reading book 2. I also understood the sex thing causing the forest to enter the breeding cycle. No, what pissed me off, was that everyone was still somehow so freaking squeamish, that they couldn't just get an orgy going in the pool. Imagine how much the forest would have grown if they had just let go of their stupid human issues? At least Evie and her mates, since Alice is a squeamish waste of space?
I guess the mates who are not the main focus in this story have become somewhat human-like, or are acting a bit OOC, which I didn't like. Hopefully that will not happen in the next books.

Minotaur’s Curse continues Susan Trombley’s excellent Into the Dead Fall series and in this instalment we finally get Asterius’ story. Asterius is invulnerable. Almost. His only weakness is the golden ring in his nose, just touching it can bring the big Minotaur to his knees. But, the cursed ring can only be removed by someone who loves him. Lauren has fallen through a hole in her world and landed in the proverbial rubbish tip of the universe. It’s a hard world and she knows, despite her survival skills and her military training, that she won’t stay alive for long without help. When she meets a monster from legend she thinks that she’s finally met her end, instead he seems determined to protect and maybe even love her?I’m in love. This happens quite a lot in the course of my reading, but it’s definitely the first time I have fallen for a Minotaur. The creature of legend with hoofs, horns and a golden ring in the nose. But that’s Susan Trombley for you, she gets you falling for characters you’d never before considered lovable. But, he was adorable…fierce and protective, I really enjoyed getting to know him better in this book.
As Asterius is a character from Greek legend, a monster that most people will recognise this book had a definite paranormal romance vibe to it. In some ways it could almost be a book in Trombley’s Whispers of the Bayou series - another series I love from her! And, I found the beginning of the book where there were minimal “sci fi” elements and it focused on Lauren and Asterius surviving together were by far the best parts of the book.
Unlike the other books in the series, this one isn’t reverse harem/menage story. I think this was a really good decision on Trombley’s part. Asterius’ possessiveness would not have allowed for this. After a long lonely life he has finally found a woman he loved and who loved him back. He wasn’t going to share her. As for Lauren…she wasn’t as open to the idea as the previous characters and I think it would have been an uncomfortable fit for her – no pun intended! That didn’t mean that this was any less romantic and it certainly didn’t affect the heat factor; this book was hot.
This was another great book by Trombley, I can’t wait to see what she brings out next.

3.5 stars I love the setting of this series. Dead Fall is just fascinating to me. Susan Trombley is always so original, creative and descriptive with her writing. That being said, neither Asterius or Lauren were my favorite characters. I read it quickly and enjoyed hearing about the characters from the other two books. Moving on to Chimera's Gift.

3 stars for story and 1 for ending, so I rounded it up to 2 stars as a whole.
It is hard to remember anything I liked in the book when ending made me hate characters I previously liked and to absolutely despise the ending itself. I am willing to give slack where alien or creatures minds,reasoning or motives are concerned. After all,they are not human and are not supposed to think or react like one. However, when it comes to human minds,especially female minds,there are things that are absolutely unacceptable to me unless the character is not supposed to be antagonist. So,if you are on this book,I can only assume you have read both previous installments and more likely liked the characters you encountered. Like Alice and Evie and her mates. So,ending in this book made me really despise Alice to the point I wished Lauren could just kill her off and Evie was just a bit better, but mostly because she was less invested.

The hypocrisy and nerve of Alices fuckers were astounding. I could grudgingly accept their need for blood revenge on Asterius. If that would end at that,but no,they deceived to first get their fight,then team up against Asterius to beat him near death,then have an acceptance dinner to include in family only to request him to sacrifice his life to conserve their lovely living. Bloody cowards did not do it themselves. Where was the honour they were supposed to have? None. I was so disgusted, that I fumed but still could grudgingly get over it as their mindset is not human. But Alice. Bloodthirsty and condescending to Lauren wanting to see Asterius suffer just to start throwing tantrums when her own males will not come unscathed from fight. And then being totally ok to sacrifice Asterius life while being all smiles and lies to Lauren.I so wanted Lauren to demand her life as a sufficient payment for Asterius and read about the bitch getting gutted. And Evie. Sutch a disappointment.
How am I supposed to continue to next two books about this disgusting pair getting more mates? No thanks. This books ending made sure I don't care about sisters anymore. They don't deserve more books,they don't deserve love or even respect. I am done.

I always enjoy a Trombley novel
I just...I really wanted to know HOW the curse happened, haha. My question wasn’t answered, but it’s ok, because the story was great.
The review: STOP! Instalust alert! It’s a pretty typical version of the trope. Guy sees girl and is committed, gurl sees guy and goes noodley. Well, sort of, but you get the point.
I really liked seeing the previous characters in the series and getting their updates. Very much looking forward to seeing where this series goes. The author’s note mentions ideas for the children of The Deadfall and is like to suggest that be a spin off series as this one is if the Irudian Test Subjects. Chimera’s claim should be an interesting book when it comes out if the series keeps up with the previous characters, which it should because of the over-arching plot lines between the books.
Recommend: yes, but read the other two books first and since you have to get it to get the first book, read Serpent’s Mate because it’s also awesome.

Word to the wise... don't read the first book and then this one, skipping #2. You *WILL* be utterly lost, about two thirds of the way thru this, when they reach 'civilization'. Having said, the writing is solid (no errors, author is capable of characterization, etc.), the story has carry-thru action... but it wasn't my favorite in the series.
First, I had problems with the fact that the heroine was a kick-ass wimp. You can't have a military sergeant who fortified herself as a result of abuses - who is supposedly strong - be soft n' squishy most of a book. A girl who was beaten by her family and aloof in the military would NOT be touchy-feely with a minotaur. She wouldn't. She wouldn't rub his back, she wouldn't wash his fur. That's not how it works. Either you have a wall around you, or you don't.
Second, the settings are too 'earthly'. There's a mall complete with mannequins and atriums, a health clinic complete with motivational posters and magazines, a subway with underground shop-fronts? Did we fall into an alien dimension or not?
Third, the handling of the minotaur was done weirdly/poorly. He starts out as a 'cast out' in a shack on the edge of nothingness, but we're teleported from there almost immediately to the fortified camp he made underground years ago. Why didn't he go THERE after he was 'cast out', if a) it was fortified, b) it was familiar, and c) he could do the same stuff there as he did at the edge of nothingness. It made no sense.
Worse was the ending. He's 'eternal' (does not age/die, heals like Deadpool, but not immortal because he can... age/die, not like Deadpool?). So because he's the only one with a *slim chance* of surviving, he's asked to sacrifice his life-force to jumpstart a forest's growth by jumping in a sacred pool (!?). But if he does, he'll probably die - so the human girl who is NOT immortal jumps in an sacrifices herself with him, and... she survives, because 'true love'. ?!?!?!!??!!? Well... YEAH... that makes total sense. (((((not.)))))

2,5 stars, liked it less than the first two books (because the plot only focussed on the couple and I wasn't a huge fan of either character)
So ... minotaurs, huh.
The plot for this one, despite being set in a parallel dimension with lots of aliens, was pretty paranormal greek myth romance-y.
Asterius is hailed as the actual Minotaur from the actual Labyrinth, actually feeding off young men sent into his lair to die.
So he's the real mythical deal and also believes in curses and gods and stuff (and we never quite find out whether his mother sexed a bull or if it was just weird magic).
While I enjoy reading paranormal romances with curses and magical beasts on occasion, I want my alien romances to be sci-fi. That means, psychic powers and telekinesis are cool. Pretending old myths and fairy tales are parallel dimension reality? Weird. And ill-fitting.
So yeah, it was mostly me and not the book. I didn't hate Lauren or Asterius, but I also wasn't excited to read about them and their perspective. So it wasn't a hit for me, especially since the plot from book 1 and 2 only progressed in the last 10%, and then, we only saw glimpses of what happened while Lauren and Asterius were busy getting to know each other.
A lot happened in Omni!! And Grey had a lot of plans, manh of which were thwarted by NEX. It's a shame we didn't see much of that in this book and I hope book 4 will be better that way.

So he's the real mythical deal and also believes in curses and gods and stuff (and we never quite find out whether his mother sexed a bull or if it was just weird magic).
While I enjoy reading paranormal romances with curses and magical beasts on occasion, I want my alien romances to be sci-fi. That means, psychic powers and telekinesis are cool. Pretending old myths and fairy tales are parallel dimension reality? Weird. And ill-fitting.
So yeah, it was mostly me and not the book. I didn't hate Lauren or Asterius, but I also wasn't excited to read about them and their perspective. So it wasn't a hit for me, especially since the plot from book 1 and 2 only progressed in the last 10%, and then, we only saw glimpses of what happened while Lauren and Asterius were busy getting to know each other.
A lot happened in Omni!! And Grey had a lot of plans, manh of which were thwarted by NEX. It's a shame we didn't see much of that in this book and I hope book 4 will be better that way.

An odd solution for the ending
I had my doubts about Lauren and Asterius being together, given that Lauren has a history of being afraid of monsters, but it worked out pretty well. Lauren was an appropriate mix of stubborn military woman and occasional damsel in distress for the Minotaur. The book took a turn I did NOT see coming, but which sets the stage for the next 2 books. Gray is still being his enigmatic and morally gray self in the background, which keeps things interesting. One major plot point had a solution that would have seemingly been glaringly obvious to gray, with his visions of possible futures, but somehow wasn’t. I get the romance of it, but it still bothers me. Can’t say more without MAJOR spoilers.

Finally, a book I LOVED!

I’ve read soo many books lately that left me ticked off and annoyed, I was beginning to fear I wasn’t going to find a book I enjoyed again....
I know that sounds a bit melodramatic and over stating and I guess it is/was but you know how it is ,we all go through those periods where it seems like we either can’t find anything to read ( even with a kindle full of them) you know like when you look at a fridge full of food and don’t want any of it ? Or it seems everything you read is full of selfish man hor’s or TSTL heroines or something that on pet peeve list working that poor last nerve to death like nails on a chalk board....
But Wooooooooooooooooooohooooooooooooo!
I had a great time here!
For me both the H and the h were what I needed to get to a happy place ;)
Both were intelligent and self aware..... deep happy breath...

Asterius was smart and brave and soo caring and vulnerable at times, I found it sexy as hell.... when Lauren teased him about other males and some sorta switch was flipped,oooooooooooo
Ooooooooooooooo I was sooo there with her almost wishing Asterius was mine and I could soo get behind or in front of as the case might be of some grown up “chase” thru a maze if I had a yummy beast like Asterius coming after me....
And I understood Lauren,while ménage and RH are a personal fantasy of mine, Lauren and Aster were a great team together even if he was typically doing that you wait here while I go and sacrifice myself for you thing..... gggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrr
But I loved 💕 how Lauren was like “ ell No!” We in this together and stood for and with her male and he was smart to let her...

Lauren needs to grow some. Don’t be nice to Alice and Evie.
How disappointing! If you’ve read the first two books in this series, by now you are probably hoping for this series to gain some traction and move forward like I was. I was also excited for a MF relationship instead of the multiple mate angle.
Lauren wasn’t terrible at first. And the Minotaur, he wasn’t bad either. But what’s his name?! She keeps calling him my Minotaur and it’s like use his name! Also, why didn’t he and Lauren have these mystery key soulmate genes?
Where was the explanation about how he really was created?
When on earth was he supposedly around?
What was the deal with the nose ring vulnerability? So it hurts if someone yanks it. Whooptie doo.
There were just a LOOOOT of details and explanations lacking in this one.
And what’s with ALL THE SOLIDARITY?! I’d probably have given this book a 3, but then in like last 25 percent all of a sudden the sisters and their mates are in the picture and they’re invading Lauren and the minotaur’s bubble. Then they’re basically forcing Lauren to be okay with Al’s mate beating the heck out of him in the pit because he wronged them, but so did all the other males and they weren’t fighting them! Then Alice and Evie are all sitting down beside her, touching her, telling her that her mate likes it blah blah blah. Like they just ran the show. Well, hello Lauren thought y u were some in the army bad A chick STAND UP TO THEM. TELL THEM TO BUMP OFF. DO SOMETHING! And even be mad at your mate a little.
Then she goes willing back to hang out with the sisters and plays with ones baby while her mate who had his eyes taken out and beat to a pulp getting patched up and repaired by Grey.
What in the world?! I’d have told them to bump off. Why wasn’t she mad? Just because they’re the only two humans there, if they wrong you you don’t let them get away with it or over look it.
Then they put her mate up to be sacrificed!!! And Lauren is sad and tries helping her mate. And Alice and Evie and their mates are all looking out for their own good. And then what do you know, they survive NO THANKS to any of them, and there they going being besties like its no big deal!
No. No. No. this installment ruined this series for me.
Just because they’re human, doesn’t mean you owe them or let them treat you bad. This whole sorority sister humanhood solidarity mentally needs to stop in these SFR books when one human treats another bad.

I loved Lauren and Asterius. Their story was maybe a little more rushed than Alice's and Evie's, but I think that was primarily because the last quarter of the book was setting the stage with all the characters together preparing for what's coming next. And regardless of the points where it felt rushed, I really loved their story and backgrounds, and their willingness to fight to survive a tough world before they got sucked through the portal and after it.
DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS!
But, let's talk about that last quarter of the book for a sec, because I have feeeeelings! I kind of want Alice and Evie to be throat punched by Lauren. I was not okay with the gladiator scene, especially when Tak and Iyarun teamed up against Asterius. Oh, but they all loved it because males are just such brutes. (I literally can't roll my eyes hard enough) And Alice getting upset when her mates take of their armor, STFU, your guys are the ones who pushed for this! And you and Evie were like "this is the way" when Lauren was so upset, now it's not the way because one of your guys may be hurt?Iiiinteresting... Then, because Asterius has bled enough, all the males are besties and we're all going to live happily...nope, apparently not because we're only at 90% through, so there's more! All of this, literally everything from the time Gray pointed Asterius toward saving Lauren at the beginning of the story is an elaborate set-up/strategy to draw him in, give him something he's willing to sacrifice himself for, and then ask him to sacrifice himself...you know, for the greater good and to save Lauren. If I didn't love my Kindle so much, it would have been sailing across the room at around 93-94% through this book.
Was there a HEA at the end? Yes! But poor Asterius and Lauren got put through the wringer!

I liked the book, but the ending made me mad.
Lauren was great, I liked that she was cautious and smart in the Fall and with Asterius, even when she realized that he saved her life. She fell for him very quickly, but it was fine in their circumstances. I felt that she should've been more angry at the sisters and their mates. Even if the guys enjoyed fighting in the ring it wasn't a fair fight, and it was heartless that Lauren, who not much earlier witnessed the love of her life almost die in battle, wasn't even asked if she wanted to see the fight.
Asterius was a fine minotaur, he was a bit wild and bestial, but also intelligent and loving. I hoped for a bit more of awkwardness in his attraction to Lauren and their sexual relationship, but he went from a blushing virgin to a self-assured sex machine in a second ;) He infuriated me at the end, without any consideration for Lauren's feelings or wishes he decided in a freaking moment to risk his life. He knew he was the only person she needed in her life, and he didn't even explain properly, before he rushed into the situation that could cost him his life. That was bullshit.
Don't get me started on Alice, Evie and their mates. Gray was a manipulative dick and the women were sitting there with Lauren showing off their sweet, alien children knowing that their men were asking Asterius to risk his life for their fucking safety. If I was Lauren I would never trust any of them, and wouldn't be happy with my man either. Asterius should be apologizing and working on earning her trust and forgiveness in the epilogue, yet it seemed they were perfectly fine after a fuck. That disappointed me.

Third book in this series and to date... my absolute favourite...and I freaking loved the other two books in this series but this one hit me right in the ticker.
Again peeps.. you gotta read the first two books in this series before you even think about diving into this book... as well as two fantastic stories in their own right, they are filled with back story and the foundation of building the world of the deadfall and all it wonderful and wacky inhabitants.
A is THE MINOTAUR in the labyrinth... born a a human and sacred bull... thrown into the lab Ruth and used as a threat against his father enemies. Never shown an ounce of love or care or even his mother love. All he wants is his curse to be broken and to have someone love him....AKA a scary, literally bull headed stubborn powerhouse with a soft and oh so tender centre... the ultimate MUST for Bubbles The Book Pimp.. A MONSTER MARSHMELLOW MAN 💖💖💖
When we met him in the last book, I wanted to know more about him and I’m so glad we now have this book... it’s emotive and tender and ow so freaking full of story and wonderful chemistry between A and Lauren ( the kick ass GI JANE ) that wins his heart and looses her own willingly to him. They were a fantastic couple and their chemistry was artistically created, with common ground and heartache over their treatment by the people who should have loved them the most!
I want so many more books from this series it’s unreal!!!

This is the third instalment of the stories about the Dead Fall, a planet that has become a dumping ground for the weird and wonderful that is sucked through a wild ravaging time/space portal.
Just stick with it if you think is premise is cray.
The Minataur, Arterius, is fashioned on the Greek mythology of old.
His horrific circumstances for his birth, curse and early years have left him scarred and a hardened warrior, cursed to be alone and unloved. Lauren, the hits human female to be sucked into the Dead fall is a career US army woman with a sad start in life but a determination to never be afraid of monsters ever again.
So the Dead Fall is great place to test that vow out then, ain't it?
Trombley has managed to weave her special magic around the story, mixing the mythology with the sci if fantasy of the Dead Fall and its e LewTia mix of occupants.
whilst some of the environment feels a bit too 'human' in its coincided, there is more than enough 'alien'-ness trough out the book to make it a rapid page turner.
I loved this story as it brought love and light to the two most fiercest H and h I have read for a long while.
Well done Ms Trombley. Minotaurs are my new Momoa...

Things are getting sticky in the Dead Fall. Not that they weren't before, mind you. Because, you know, when you have a big, inter-dimensional portal that randomly (or maybe NOT so randomly. Who knows?!?!?) opens and dumps unsuspecting individuals into a harsh, dangerous world is already pretty crazy. But Gray's actions in the last book have ramped things up and now things are SUPER crazy.
Which isn't necessarily a bad thing when you're a nearly immortal monster who likes to fight. However, it isn't so good for the human he's drawn to. Not that Lauren's a damsel in distress who can't fight her own battles or anything. The lady's pretty good at keeping herself alive, really. But she is human and human's aren't as tough as immortal monsters.
No worries, though. THINGS HAPPEN and Asterius finds his groove between fighting and protecting his new honey. Lauren figures out that not all monsters do monstrous things and it's all good. SEXY TIMES HAPPEN. Frequently.
I'm digging this world and all the diverse characters who populate it. Monsters, mayhem, and a VERY ANGRY Nex make for good reading.

Dead fall love is strong.
Sometimes reading a few books into a series can get tedious and boring for me but I'm so thrilled that isn't the case with the dead fall series (love the authors other series too tho) it's such an awesome world that blends different dimensions, creatures, aliens and really anything you can think of into a fallout style world. And really how badass is that? I was really hoping to read the minotaur story after reading the last one. I felt sad that he was alone and was happy to see him get that special someone who understood him and loved him. He had a bit of a darker side which was thrilling while still being sweet and loving. Some of my favorite parts were them exploring the the tunnels, I love reading about this world that is a mish mash of so many others that you never know what items, buildings or living beings you might encounter next. Like the insectoid looking aliens and what they were really planning to do. I'm hooked on trying to figure out what stunt NEX might pull out next though especially after using the portal the way it did I'm curious if it will try a similar tactic since the forest has them shielded so welll.

I generally avoid reading M/F romance as after finding reverse harem I just find boring the interaction between only 2 people...

Grey intervenes and pushes the minotaur in her direction. His hole curse was going around his nose ring that only a person who loves him can remove I even waited to see if he'd become more human-like afterward but no. Nothing of the sort.
I applaud his female as I would be hard-pressed to be attracted to a bull-like creature but... it is an alien book so whatever.
I read the book as it moves the plot ahead opening the lines for the sisters and their additional mates. Some reviews claimed Grey was terrible and whatnot, I did not find it to be a harsh difference to his original personality.

Good ending
The story was slow in the beginning and I took off a star because they fell in love way too quickly. Seriously, a day to be madly in love was rushing things. They could have stood to come up against more trouble and bonded through it. What bit there was, was so fast as to not amount to much. Maybe to have had more internal dialog expressing their feelings with it. I don't know, the love just felt really rushed, while the story was moving slow. Finally at around 75% things picked up and got interesting. I love this authors stories but this one was rushed and not her best work. I will still continue reading her work though, as overall, her books are great and this one wasn't bad. Just could have been better.

Very Enjoyable!
A new take on the Minotaur's myth, we actually get what happened after his disappearance from his cursed labyrinth, though I would have loved learning his origins, I really loved that the myth was left as it was. Very few errors, wonderful plot, very.... otherworldly in the Land of the List sense, adding in aliens and fantastical elements.
This is the first U read in the series, and even though I would have had more idea of what was going on in the outside world building, I felt like I was living in Lauren's eyes rather than just being there for the ride. In short, I would consider it a standalone, but it helps to have read the series chronologically.

I really enjoyed this one. I wanted to read about Austerious when he was first introduced in the second book. This one has serious feels/emotion and you just can't help feeling sorry for the poor guy. Lauren being his heroine made a lot of sense because it takes a very strong woman to be with a male like him. Even though he cared about her he was still "beastly" and the fact that that did it for her was a bonus. This book isn't a cliffhanger but there's definitely stuff going on in the world of the dead fall that makes it so you need to read the books in order and lets you know there is more to come. I'm definitely going to get the next one!

Good fit
I liked this story as a stand-alone. I didn’t think it needed to be added to the series and could have bypassed it to find out what happened with the sisters. Lauren has had to deal with a lot. Her mother is neglectful and her step father is abusive. However she is still judge mental and rude. I though that the Minotaur was a damaged character that could have used more compassion from her. They are both similar in their histories which made them a good couple. They fit and I loved how they were.

My favorite
Of this series so far. Loved how the author spun Ast. And Lauren’s story. Never in my wild dreams would I have thought of this storyline. It was great. Fascinated world and mix of beings.
Glad the forest is expanding and others have moved into the safety of the land. Was still waiting for them to mention farming, fish (why couldn’t there be transported seas, lakes, aquatic life since the can import snow, etc.
was confused about Nex, thought the AI had seized control and wanted planet to exist and population to survivor.
