Growing Only Dandelions

Rate this book
🌼Growing Only Dandelions🌼 is an inspirational story of a woman who has a near-death experience that propels her on a spiritual and emotional journey. The words crafted are inspired by a Christian belief in a loving God. However, it does not ostracize other religions or other spiritual beliefs. The fundamental concept is that we are LOVED and do not travel through this life alone.Growing Only Dandelions highlights the presence of strategically placed relationships, purposely left “signs” and guardian angels, all of which are gifted to us through Grace. This unconventional supernatural novel dares the reader to consider the possibility of a present and loving God through a narrative that triggers one’s imagination to question every action and inaction.***Bethany, a wife and mother, is enjoying a beautiful day at the beach with her family. She falls asleep while her husband and son swim in the ocean. Awakened by the winds of an approaching storm, Bethany is alarmed by how dangerous the water has turned. She frantically searches for her family before rushing to the water and jumping into it. Bethany struggles against the treacherous waters and slams her head against a reef on the ocean’s floor. Falling unconscious, Bethany says “I never saw a more brilliant light.”Bethany opens her eyes in heaven and her spiritual and emotional journey begins. She is escorted through a long corridor by a man insisting that she must see “Him” right away. They swiftly walk alongside an endless stream of people shuffling forward slowly in a single filed line. Some of them are curious and reach out their arms to touch the woman being chaperoned to the front of the line. Upon contact, their “ugliness” (i.e., personal, shameful life event) is revealed to Bethany.A person calls out to her by name. Bethany recognizes that it is the voice of her estranged father. Her hatred towards him is palpable. He steps off the line and touches her wrist transporting her mind back in time to when her “ugliness” started as a young child from his abuse.***Throughout the novel, Bethany is transported back in time to those milestone moments in her life that shaped her own “ugliness”. In hindsight, she recognizes all the beauty that evolved from it. Growing Only Dandelions is a novel that is meant to open your mind, heal your heart and awaken your spirit. We are not weeds. We are beautiful flowers.Growing Only Dandelions is a dark novel. It is to help you see the light.

"A brand new foundation is required since no matter how hard she tries to grow a beautiful, healthy garden, she always ends up growing only dandelions." There is so much to that sentence for me and how this book touched my heart and soul. Dandelions are most often thought of as ugly weeds but when looking at them closely, they are delicate, beautiful plants that have many benefits to them. This is Bethany's story. It's like a dandelion plant. It has complex parts. Roots that carry "ugliness" caused by an abusive father, a stem of friends and family that supports a flower that life is good, and leaves that bring nourishment with faith and belief in the promises of God.

Joan Hugues has written a touching and inspirational story through the character of Bethany Grant. This book took me into Bethany's life in deep and emotional ways that tore my heart apart through the years of her growing up and how events formed her emotions, fears, and feelings. The events in her life are all part of what makes her who she is and how she feels about herself. Her self perceptions are formed by her image of how she sees herself because of what happens to her good and bad. The people she encounters on this life journey also have an influence in ways she doesn't even realize at the time. There are reasons for people in her life that aren't evident until later on. All these pieces seem to be haphazard and just random but there's a purpose and reason for every encounter and incident in her life.

I believe in the message this book spreads through the very descriptive passages written by Joan Hugues. I felt as if I were entering the heavenly corridor with Bethany and experiencing the brilliant beauty that the author creates in the words and images. I heard the heavenly voices singing the beautiful songs of pure love. I met Beth's loved ones with the pure joy of reuniting in a perfect body and place. It was a visual in heart and soul into the hope of the promises of Heaven. Perfection intimately portrayed in the words of this book.

This book gave me so much to think about. So much to be grateful for in my life. That there is nothing that happens without a reason and that the people who are in my life are there for a purpose. There is hope no matter what happens and that there is a glorious, divine power who works in our lives. "We all feel ugly at times...…..I realize that I deserve love. Everyone deserves love, especially the love from within."

This story touched me deeply and truly is an inspiration. It is an experience I am very grateful and honored I took. I will look at the "dandelions" in my life in a completely new way because of the message in this book. I'm humbly thankful.

This book is a must read!

This was a wonderful story of learning how to forgive and truly love yourself. Growing Only Dandelions is an emotional read, and one that will stay with me for a long time. I am a firm believer in guardian angels and heaven, and this story brought those beliefs to light in a such a beautiful way.

Much praise to Joan Hugues for writing such a remarkable, emotional and inspirational story about love and forgiveness of not only others but ourselves. I took my time reading this as I wanted every word to sink in. I related to parts of this story about Bethany and her journey of faith, love, hope and forgiveness. Bad things happen in life to everyone, this story made me realize you must not let those bad things shape your life by holding onto or dwelling about them. Life is precious and can be taken away in a moments time. Pay attention to how you treat others and how you treat yourself as you never know when it will be the last time you see someone. I hope this author, Joan Hugues realize’s how talented she is as a writer and will publish another 5 Star book in the future! I will be the first one to read it if she does. Thank you Joan.

This author had a fairly decent writing style, and though I did enjoy the book - I do wish that Bethany had properly met the daughter that she gave up for adoption. I got a copy in exchange for an honest review.

My Review Of Growing Only Dandelions by Joan Hugues

Growing Only Dandelions is an emotional story teetering on life and death. This story is about abuse, forgiveness, and redemption for Bethany. While this is a vivid story centred around God’s love and the will to fight through ugliness inflicted by others to find peace in oneself. I thought it was interestingly written to show how life events can not only change a person but also shape their self-belief and tendency to self-harm in later life. I also like that the book gives a glimpse into a heavenly realm that makes you question, do the choices we make on earth slow us down to finding true peace in the afterlife? Or even in the present?

The story itself follows Bethany as she anxiously watches over her son and husband playing on the beach in the sea. She can’t get this feeling of doom out of her mind, and so after waking in the hot sun, she notices her husband and son is no longer there. In her panicked mind, she sees a body floating in the water and rushes to save them. However, the waves are strong and pulls her down. Will Bethany see her loving husband and son again? Will she get pulled from the sea alive or has her worldly journey come to an end? Read this book to find out.

My favourite character is Tommy, he starts out as a character that you may not really like his actions, however, throughout the back-story you get to see his true heart and the way he shows kindness to another and later in life is rewarded back for his kindness.

I thought Author Joan did a great job at really showing how one little girl found love through others and found her spiritual journey despite her self-harm and abusive upbringing. Also like how she painted a vivid image of the past, present, and afterlife within Bethany’s portrait of herself, the ugliness she feels, vs the love and joy others see in her.

While the end for me was very unexpected and rather sad. I think if you like reading books about God, the afterlife and a journey from self ugliness to searching for peace then you should give this book a read.

This is a book that intrigued me - it covered so many connections that affected relationships in incredible ways, it was hypnotic and thought provoking about what ever you choose to believe about near death experiences. Bethany was a young girl who was abused as a child and thought of herself as just an "ugliness" that wouldn't leave her. She hung on to this image of herself and kept it a secret even from her husband John. Through flashbacks we learn of her friendship with Tommy and how he became a powerful friend who always believed in her. Unfortunately he had a tragic death. Her life goes on but she is never sure of her self worth. After an accident where Bethany almost dies she sees a brilliant beautiful light as she revisits her past and memories of her childhood in a new way. On her journey Bethany learns about compassion, hope and forgiveness as she meets Tommy again as a guardian angel. Bethany learns to love herself as she forgives those who have hurt her. I think God gave her this peace and love on this spiritual journey. I loved this book, and have actually seen someone experience this bright light before they passed, it was simply a mesmerizing moment.

Make yourself comfortable while you take this thought provoking journey with Bethany. She will encounter her life experiences and learn the three magic words "I forgive you", when she has a "near death experience".
Truly an intriguing book!
Bethany meets people from her past on the line to move onto Heaven.
Some from her childhood that she felt she had to make amends with, and others which include family members where the memories and moments were and are unbearable!
The hardest lesson for everyone to learn! "Moments that people spend together should not be taken for granted because they truly may be your last." Excellent story!

Near death experience

Growing Only Dandelions by Joan P Hughes is the story of the near death experience of Bethany. She goes into the ocean and is caught in a terrible storm. She is beaten and battered by the waves and rocks but eventually pulled out by two teenage boys. She s terribly injured and on the way to the hospital she leaves her body and goes to heaven. She meets many people there who have played roles in her life. Does she want to come back and re-enter her body? What does God want her to do? Very thought provoking reading.

A good read. Spiritual. Gives hope about life after death. Gives hope for life in general. Bethany is hard on herself and sees herself as having an ugliness in her. After an accident she finds herself in a long corridor and seeing people from her childhood that have long passed. She also sees memories of her childhood that helped to shape who she is. Will she forgive herself and allow His love into her life? I took it that He\Him was God. That's just how I saw it. I think though whether you're a believer or not that this is a very good read, a hope filled read. I recommend it.

Review to follow: Here is my review on this book.

This is the first time that I have read anything by this author; she did a great job of describing how
Bethany came to peace with her past ends up making peace with a lot of her past.

The book is very captivating, there are emotional ups and downs and each chapter leaves you with questions. This story will you give you new insight into the power of love, and beauty, both inside & outside ourselves, & how other people, events, & a divine power can shape that beauty. If you’re looking for a short spiritual read this is the one. I highly recommend it. I am giving it 5 stars. I hope to read more from this author and I will be looking for more of her books.

Review of Growing Only Dandelions

Since I believe that this is the first book published by Joan Hugues, I am sincerely hoping that she will follow her dream. While the main character's younger years made her survive through her own private hell, I had a feeling that at some point, she would reach a peaceful serenity of her own redemption! However, as approaching the end of book, I began to lose all hope. Without writing spoilers, I can honestly say that Joan was able to reinforce my beliefs in the hereafter! Very well written, characters who were believable, and a wonderful story make this book a winner in my mind! The ending had me clenching my teeth for a bit, but that's one of the reasons that I enjoyed it so much! Please take the time to get to know Joan Hugues! She doesn't disappoint her audience!

Growing Only Dandelion’s by Joan Hughes is about questioning what will face after our death, Will we see or interact with our once loved ones as we transition over to the afterlife? As this story is told you see the “Ugliness” we hold inside our own selves. The author handles some very difficult topics in this story. She has an exceptional understanding of life. Joan gives her character Bethany the chance to explore the feelings and impact she has on others. I related spiritually with the underlying message that healing comes from within, from the courage and love to forgive yourself. I recommend this book to anyone dealing with an inward struggle and needs Peace.

“Growing Only Dandelions” is a Christian take on a near-death experience. Although Bethany, aged 43 has apparently recovered from childhood trauma, she’s become a fragile and anxious adult. Thinking her son and husband have been carried off in a rip current, she becomes hysterical and runs into the water. Injured, she “dies” and goes to a waiting room type of afterlife where she sees many people who have come to Heaven before her, including her former abuser who needs her to forgive him. She can’t. She’s still trapped in hatred. This begins more journeying through time to various other events what make her feel ugly like a dandelion in a flower garden.
There are more twists and turns – the resolution was fairly predictable to me but still enjoyable. Readers who are not Christian may find the depictions of Heaven somewhat cartoonish, but overall it’s a good and inspiration book about how one cannot move on in life or apparently death without forgiveness.

I have to admit that I have been having a very hard time reviewing this book by Joan Hugues. I was drawn from the first time I read about it because I believe - or hope with all my heart - that the people we lost before us will be greeting us on the other side. But there is a dark side to this book that I’m not comfortable with - the “ugliness” - is what she calls it. I can’t help but feel that this story is a reflection of the author’s life - or someone she knows?? It seems to be more real than fiction. Or maybe a way to bring light to a very dark subject?? I guess the only way to know for sure would be to sit down with the author and talk to her. I would like to do that.

Part of the reason it was hard to write this at this time was the turn in the condition of my once very vibrant mother-in-law. Now, she was almost 102 years old, so this was not a surprise, but, one day we were playing Bingo with her and an hour later she was there in body only and stayed that way for 4 days. I had recently finished this book and as I sat there with her lying in bed, holding her hand, I couldn’t help but keep looking at her and wondering “Are you walking down that long hallway? Do you see your husband that you lost so long ago? Is your tiny baby that you never got to hold being brought to you? Is my mom holding out her hand?” I’ll never know, of course, because unlike Bethany, Helen’s time on this earth was, in fact, over and she didn’t wake up.

I believe I will read this book again sometime to ponder some more. But for now I want to believe that we will, in fact, see our loved ones, and not have to deal with any of the “ugliness” in that transition from here to there.

A touching story about how we let past events and things people have said about us shape our lives. Beth was sexually abused by her father, and like many children, she blamed herself as well has her father. This haunts her throughout life; it's her ugliness, the recording of those words playing over and again. It takes a near-death experience to bring her to the realization of what she has to do to rid herself of those taunting words and memories.

Divine!

Bravo! If you want to experience a powerful, moving read, then I recommend "Growing Only Dandelions". The authors writing craft will pull you in & out of character, plot, location, & you will be immersed. Her use of metaphors & juxtapositions of beauty & ugliness, despair & hope, develops both suspense & compassion. The story will give you new insight into the power of love, and beauty, both inside & outside ourselves, & how other people, events, & a divine power can shape that beauty. Download or purchase a copy of this story, so you too will experience the journey of "Growing Only Dandelions".

What can I say...This is a small book but it is an awesome read. It’s the story of a girl named Bethany. We follow her from an early age. She suffers abuse and it stays with her for years to come. She is mistreated in school by a boy named Tommy who bullies her constantly until she has enough and takes him down on the school bus. They become best friends. This book has faith, forgiveness, and so much that will touch your heart. It brought me to tears and laughter. This is the authors first book and I hope she writes more, a follow up to this one would be great....hint hint....

I was hooked only a few pages into this book. I was reading another book so I finished that one & returned to this one. I had a hard time putting it down to take care of my activities of daily living.
The subject was hard to imagine, so the reading was intense and thought provoking. I do not want to give away any of the story, so I will just say you will be glad you read this wonderful book. I am going to read it again and I am sure I will come across some things I missed the first time.

A beautiful story. We’re all as God made us, and that means none of us are perfect. We all have our crosses in life to bear. Each story is unique unto itself yet we have feelings and experiences that bind us together. This story spoke to me personally as I’m sure it will to many who read it. It’s about abuse, bullying, sadness, and love. It’s about being human and learning to love yourself. A very good read.

Beautiful

I enjoyed this immensely, although my views differ just abit, I thought the story was beautiful about fogiveness and second chances God really smiles on the main character as his grace is shown thoughout her journey. In my opinion this is a must read although it maybe triggering for some. I got this book strictly because it was different , the cover was actually drawn by the author which is different and the description caught my interest.
