I had a mixed reaction to this. On the plus side, the story was good and the author gave a great insight into Lilah’s character as well as capturing the struggles and failures that drug addicts must face every day of their lives. I did have some problems with the book, however. The romance skipped over so many crucial steps in the development of the relationship. Also, the main characters’ troubled past was underdeveloped and the reader can’t fully comprehend it. Despite these complaints, I have no problem recommending this. I loved James and I was deeply invested in Lilah’s account of her struggles to get clean.

A friendship/romantic relationship between a Hollywood bona fide heartthrob and selfish, self destructive, drug and alcohol addict washed up model.
But can we really say romantic relationship when it was more of a FWB relationship than anything else.?
While I disliked the heroine for using the hero as a crutch, I really disliked the hero more, he should’ve just helped her get in to rehab way before. Yes he was protective of her, I felt like their relationship was codependent, he wanted her to make him feel needed and she needed him to make her feel protected.
She was calling every woman who showed any interest in the hero a slut while she was offering herself to any man who had drugs. It was like the pot calling the kettle black. 🤷🏻♀️ when she sees hero talking to a woman at a club she becomes jealous and feels betrayed so she goes looking for men who can give her drugs and she finds one, they go to the bathroom where they proceeded to do coke lines and he shoves his fingers inside her. She then takes him to the dance floor and proceeded to hump the man’s crotch to show the hero that she too can have fun with other people. Hero saw her and followed them to the bathroom where they were doing more drugs.
She also offers herself at her landlord for missing rent payments, the landlord rejected her but she would have given him a bj or had sex with him.
This book is probably not for safety readers depends I guess on your safety preferences. He has had sex before and in between her and she was repeatedly raped by her father since she was 8 years old. He’s the first man she had sex with that she really wanted to but he hasn’t been her last.
They were having unprotected sex while she was having sex with OMS for drugs. I’ve a feeling 2nd book will turn into a secret baby and I hope I’m wrong because no kid deserves a drug addict for a mother, harsh? Maybe but it’s also the truth.
He would do anything for her to give him a real chance at a relationship but she thinks she’s horrible at relationships.
I was amazed during the book with how much the heroine abused alcohol and drugs, it wasn’t like she did drugs here or there or drank alcohol once in a while, it was every single day and she hadn’t overdosed until 65%.
Safety info again:
The head of the movie studio asked hero and his co-star to pretend dating. It wasn’t until later that he started to feel something and he was wondering what would happen if Adelaide and him started dating for real and he was about to talk to her until he was informed that the heroine ODed on heroin so he runs back to her.
Heroine has sex with her drug dealer while she was high after hero kicks her out of his house before she ODed.
The books ends with a cliffhanger, with her breaking her sobriety after hero breaks things with her after finding her in a compromising position with the head of the movie studio. The old man was blackmailing the heroine, hero thought she was back to doing drugs.

Well, do I have a book recommendation for you. All We Were absolutely destroyed me. If you’re a fan of angsty, messy story lines that leave you with your palms sweaty and your heart a pounding mess, you need to grab this book and binge read it. Elisabeth Grace and Michelle Lynn rocked my world with this angstfest that doesn’t hold back AT ALL. It’s gritty and raw and intense and frustrating and sexy and hits on hard topics in a brutally honest way. I was blown away by every facet of this romance and I’m eagerly anticipating book 2 in this whirlwind of a duet!

James is a movie star, Hollywood’s Golden boy, who’s about to be in a major motion blockbuster that will take his career to the next level. He and Lilah are quite a pair! These two go way back, have been best friends since childhood and frankly, they can’t survive without each other. Both these characters have had a really hard life and they’ve worked their ass off to make something of themselves. But while James has succeeded at life and his career, Lilah has struggled with both.
Lilah Robbie is model with tons of potential, but she’s also a serious party girl. Her issues are a major topic in this book. Without going into detail (in an effort to avoid spoilers), James and Lilah are intense. They have a very toxic, very dark, very fiery connection that makes for so many heartbreaking, yet juicy moments. These two are completely co-dependent on each other and that leaves you frustrated and yearning and feeling all the feels.
Like I stated earlier in my review, All We Were is angsty. It’s the perfect read for any feels lover. A one-sitting bingefest that I had no problem devouring and couldn’t get off my mind for days. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a story with a little more grit, a little more wild. For me, it was an absolute must read that I can’t recommend enough. Just so so so good.

Wanted to read this because its the h who does all the cheating & heart breaking (I'm SO sick of the h doing all the forgiving, so this seemed like a nice change), while the H acts like a doormat.
He keeps trying to save her.
Apparently, she was sexually abused by her father since she was 8.
She turned to drugs, and has sex with random men for drugs.
MCs have a Fuck buddy relationship.

The story lacked one of the most important components a good book have - development.
NOPE, no development in the plot, not in the hero and definitely not in the self destructive heroine, which can take home the award for "MOST ANNOYING HEROINE".
The story had the same loop OVER AND OVER, the heroine messes up and the pathetic hero cleans up after her (not before he apologize for yet again her slutty/selfish/crappy/carzy/out-of-control behavior), that happy scenario went on and on and on AND ON until the very end.
It was a bit soap opera style, but one of the bad ones, same shit, no ending, oh and the actual ending? I mean come on, AGAIN? another book with the same bad habits? havent the reader sufferd enough in the first one? where's the love between the main heroes? wheres the connection? NONE.
Just some fucked up relationship of unstable kids with bad blood in their past, too much angst, too much self pity, and way too much pain and selfishness to even find the love in this book.

Holy shit of an ending!!
I need book two right now.....
All We Were by Elisabeth Grace and Michelle Lynn is about an imperfect world filled with damaged people. It shows how hard Life can be and how it can effect us differently. It's about the past dictating the future...
Hollywood's on again off again, not so it couple, Jimmy Crawford & Lilah Robbie were far from perfect. They were real, raw and complicated. Their love story was NOT a fairytale.... Far from it!Sometimes love can not conquer all. Their issues upon issues made this book a page turner. An angst lovers dream....
At every turn I waited for disaster!
Two people who grew up together, dirt poor with abusive fathers. All they had was each other and dreams of making it big.... They did what the needed to do to make it to Hollywood. Both turned out to be survivors. Except one was able to leave the past in the past and triumph, while the other struggled and faltered.
I had such a love/hate relationship with Lilah as well as Jimmy. There were times, I wanted to shake them! Jimmy was too good, while Lilah was too self destructive. Their tremulous relationship frustrated me. I found Lilah undeserving of Jimmy's unwavering love. As their story started to unfold and more of their past came to light, my opinion began to change drastically. I saw just how damaged and broken Lilah was... and why. I began to feel their exceptional bond and love. I went from being annoyed to totally empathetic. By the end of the book, I was rooting for them, my heart ALL IN and in shambles.

I wanted to like this one. I was intrigued by the story, the angst, the whole thing. Unfortunately, there's a difference between messy and destructive...and this was too far over that line for me.

Wow. role reversal of a* hole character of epic proportion >> the h is the one that's heavily into drugs, sleeping around and pretty much skuzzy . The H tries to "save" her over and over and in part was the doormat. I did like the H for the most part, got frustrated with the h over and over.
This is definitely mixed reaction book for me. Writing is great, interesting story line reversal - will see how book 2 pans out

Urghhh. Horrible heroine and the hero wasn’t much better,drugs, sex, lots of angst and I really found I didn’t care. Too many bad choices I decided to DNF.

They share a past of darkness, of pain, and anguish, hurt and loss.
She's lost on a path of self destruction dragging him along to fix the devastation.
He's her forever white knight. Can he save her before she destroys him too.
What a sensational read! I feel emotionally drained and completely shattered now, but what an amazing start to the duet!
Their history broke me, brought me to their dark place and instantly my thoughts and opinion of Lilah changed to that of sorrow, for what she lost, and understanding for what she has no true control over.
Lilah might he on a downward spiral, using and abusing everything she can but her pain controls her life and she's not ready to face it.
You can't help someone till they are ready to help themselves and it rings true here.
He might be the golden boy at the moment but he has a dark and desperate past as well. His goal was to find freedom for them and I'm in awe of him for going to such lengths even if it did backfire.
Jimmy has a heart of gold and his intentions are so pure and honest he's an amazing character and I know I for one would love someone like him in my corner.
They need each other, but aren't necessarily good for each other. Repetitive patterns of destructive behaviour endless and forever.
This book will break your heart, and trample upon the pieces in a dark yet passionate way.
I can't wait to see where the second book of the duet takes us for I still have hope!

This is a unique and page turning story that is full of angst. It kept me glued to my kindle and I forgot everything else I was supposed to do today...oops. Laundry and food shopping can wait until tomorrow, dinner will just be take out and there are still clean clothes in the house.
Lilah and Jimmy, gah and ugh and I need the next book...and stat. They have been friends since they were children and always had each other. He tries to protect her from the world and then herself...until he couldn’t.

I’m utterly speechless and emotionally drained from All We Were by Elisabeth Grace and Michelle Lynn. I had NO idea what I was getting myself into when I sat down to read this book but WOW! The story of Jimmy and Lilah packs such a punch, I just could not put this book down. I went from utter frustration with the characters to complete understanding of where they were coming from to just wanting all the best for both of them, however painful it may be. All We Were is such a heartbreaking story, I cannot wait for book two to see where Jimmy and Lilah’s story ends.

This book toyed with my emotions, pulled on my heart strings and left me with a major book hangover. From the moment I read the prologue and did not want to put this book down. I was captured and sucked in from the very start. There is angst, heartache, and a lot of raw and intense moments. And it was fantastic, flawlessly written and heartbreakingly beautiful and I cannot wait for more.
Lilah and jimmy have been best friends since they were kids. They grew up dirt poor in a small town in the mountains. They had a childhood that no one would ever wish for. They have demons that will haunt them for a long time. They did things that they are not proud of but had to in order to survive.
Lilah and jimmy made it out of that small town and jimmy is now a big up and coming movie star while Lilah is a model. Those demons I mentioned, well let’s just say that they both handle them differently. Maybe Jimmy is able to keep them in the past while Lilah deals with them in another way. A way that causes Jimmy to constantly clean up her messes and in the process she is hurting the one person who this world who loves her and who means the most to her. Will they get to a point where Jimmy says enough is enough? And if so what will that mean for their relationship? It’s not way to walk away from the one person you have loved your whole life. But sometimes it’s her to stay.
Did I make you think? Was I a little vague? Of course I was. I don’t want to give anything away. Go in completely blind and hang on for the ride.
This books deals with delicate topics and was written in a way that was honest. It depicts so much, the raw emotions, the hurt, the intensity, the high and lows and the pain. Lilah and Jimmy have a very intense relationship. they depend on each other, love each other, have an undeniable chemistry, but what they have can be very dark at times. there is no doubt in my mind that one they are both able to truly put the past behind them and fight their demons that they will be perfect together. I am rooting for them. I already feel that no matter what they have been through together, no matter how much pain and hurt they have experienced, these two love each other with everything they have. Is it enough? I will patiently waiting for book two to find out.

This book is an angsty read that will leave you an emotional mess. These two are just wow. I want Lilah to get it together because Jimmy a special guy, a good guy that keeps showing up for her. I can’t wait for book two!

Jimmy and Lilah have been in each other's lives just about as far back as they can remember. They have always looked out for each other growing up, though neither wanted to call the mountainside home. To them it was a place filled with horrible memories and a place where they both were forever changed by the hands of those that were supposed to protect them. So as soon as they were able they left together in search of a better life in Hollywood and far away from their dark past.
“It wasn’t hope that sprouted inside me when he said it that day - it was faith. And those are two very different things.”
When they finally found a place to call home Jimmy became one of Hollywood’s up and coming actors and Lilah found herself with a prestigious modeling career. Their relationship however was super complicated and it was one of those on and off again things, but if it was up to Jimmy it would be on for good. Where Jimmy was able to put his past mostly behind him and move forward with his career, Lilah struggled to face her demons and when reminders of the past were too much, she turned to drugs and alcohol to numb her pain. And so began their constant cycle of Jimmy picking up Lilah and cleaning her off no matter what the cost. He vowed he would always be there for her and he proves it time and time again, hopeful that this time will be the last. That she will get help and let him love her the way she deserves to be loved.
“Don’t you see ? I’m broken. And if we’re together, really together...I’ll break you too.”

I loved Jimmy and his unwavering devotion to Lilah because it was crystal clear how much he loved and worshiped her, but at times...well, really several times throughout the book I wanted to scream at him to just walk away before it breaks him. He was just so freaking nice that it sometimes drove me crazy. Lilah, well I honestly did not like her much at all. I will say after we learn some more about her past and why it drove her to make the choices she did my heart hurt for her and I went from straight loathing her to just disliking her. I wanted her to just stop with all the destruction and let the damn man that loves you help you. I found myself frustrated a lot during this book with all the up and downs, well mostly the downs. I am hoping in the next book I grow to like her more. I hope they move past all the pain and can find love. And then we get a big ass cliffhanger…I was like NO!! Thankfully we don’t have to wait all that long for book two.

Jimmy and Lilah have been in each other's lives just about as far back as they can remember. They have always looked out for each other growing up, though neither wanted to call the mountainside home. To them it was a place filled with horrible memories and a place where they both were forever changed by the hands of those that were supposed to protect them. So as soon as they were able they left together in search of a better life in Hollywood and far away from their dark past.
“It wasn’t hope that sprouted inside me when he said it that day - it was faith. And those are two very different things.”
When they finally found a place to call home Jimmy became one of Hollywood’s up and coming actors and Lilah found herself with a prestigious modeling career. Their relationship however was super complicated and it was one of those on and off again things, but if it was up to Jimmy it would be on for good. Where Jimmy was able to put his past mostly behind him and move forward with his career, Lilah struggled to face her demons and when reminders of the past were too much, she turned to drugs and alcohol to numb her pain. And so began their constant cycle of Jimmy picking up Lilah and cleaning her off no matter what the cost. He vowed he would always be there for her and he proves it time and time again, hopeful that this time will be the last. That she will get help and let him love her the way she deserves to be loved.

Incredible story, full of angst!
I absolutely loved this book and now I'm in a book hangover... cant stop thinking about Lilah and Jimmy, because I am so consumed by their story!
I hated Lilah. I truly did. Then sometime in the book, I started to love, appreciate and cheer for her. This is not usual for me, to dislike a character and love her in the end, but the authors did such a wonderful turnaround that you cant possibly not like Lilah after everything she went through.
Jimmy is just wonderful! Like, I-want-that-man-to-be-my-man wonderful!
Both with a hard past, they came from a little town to LA for a better future. Friends since very young, they know everything about one another, as well as a secret that will make or break them apart.
This emotional heartbreaking story is a MUST read and I need book #2 like I need oxygen to breathe!

Just wow! My heart. This is an emotional story filled with an overwhelming amount of hope and so much intense love. Elisabeth and Michelle do great in portraying not only what an addict goes through, but also those close to them. It hurts. It’s reality. It’s truth. To say Jimmy and Lilah’s journey has been tough, would be a huge understatement. They are survivors. That ending tore me in half, and I can’t wait for the next book to hopefully piece me back together. Fantastic writing!

What did I just read? A romance or a train wreck, because this book could be described as both. It’s been quite some time since I read a book with two such highly relatable characters as Lilah and Jimmy. Friends since they were in diapers. Both raised by evil fathers. They were all each other had throughout their childhood. They did everything they could to make their dreams come true, eventually heading to Hollywood to pursue their respective careers.
They both left their pasts behind, only one of them could never really leave it behind and carried it around like a weight on their shoulders. Considering what they had survived, I really can understand why they went down the rabbit hole the way they did.
The darker side of Hollywood is showcased during this book; alcoholism, drug addiction and prostitution. Some people will do anything to get what they crave and I witnessed these very lengths. Wolves nipping at the heels of the innocent just trying to survive through the day in the City of Angels, there are no angels in this book though, only monsters and demons linger.
Lilah and Jimmy are as perfect for each other as they are imperfect. She has relied on him to be her safe haven for many years that I always worried that she would cease to function if he were ever not to be in her life.
As for Jimmy, he has sacrificed so very much for Lilah and their relationship. A relationship that is far past friendship but not nearly enough for him, even though he can’t walk away from Lilah. Walking away would be akin to tearing his heart out. He even says that he doesn’t know where he ends and she begins.
‘I sense the day coming, the day when I’ll have no choice but to dislodge the anchor or me and let him move on with his life. I owe him that much at least. But I can’t bear to think of how hollow my life will be without the one good thing I have left in it. One day I’ll find the nerve.'
They have enough fuel and a spark large enough to engulf the world and this is exactly what they do when the bottom of their world falls out and they spiral into a place neither can follow.
These authors who may I add had an air of familiarity in their writing, turn out to have another pen name that I have read and adored. You ladies are super sneaky and I love you for it. This book is not like their other pen names books, and I can understand why they would change names because of this. And oh yeah, the ending was enough to make me scream. “What we are to each other is far more complex and far more than one descriptor could ever encompass.”
A well written book that stirs controversial feelings. One of the most difficult reviews I've ever written. The story of Lilah and Jimmy is more complicated than the tabloids seem to know. With their childhoods and secrets they want to leave behind in the past, Jimmy and Lilah can not evolve. The relationship of the protagonists at the beginning becomes toxic.
“Reluctantly, I leave the bedroom, in search of the person who means the most to me in the world, even if I don’t treat him like It.”
Lilah's attitude is understandable but somewhat exaggerated. Or so real it is capable of cause shock. And despite knowing the details of her childhood, which was not easy, her unwillingness to overcome the vices and traumas of the past at the beginning of the plot did not promote empathy, sympathy or pity.
“Sometimes I think I hate you as much as I love you.”
Despite the romantic and redemptive parts that happen from the second half of the book, reading is dense and may not please everyone, as the first half of the book features fairly graphic scenes of drug use and many emotionally disturbed behaviors.
"Why can’t I shake the feeling that the perfect future I envision is about to be ripped away?”
Jimmy and Lilah are two broken people, who in the midst of tragedies, between mistakes and successes, have learned to love and depend on one another. And, in a certain part of the book they learn that self-love is the most important of all. But in the present, as in the past, they end up victims of other people and of unexpected and unfair circumstances. Only the time and the next book will reveal whether the future with which they dreamed so much can come true.

4.5 glorious stars!
What to say about this book...OMG I'm gutted. This emotional roller-coaster is completely captivating, soul wrenching, and written so beautifully. There's something so special about two people that are ingrained in each others' souls that no matter what, they can't let go.
Elisabeth Grace and Michelle Lynn (aka Piper Rayne) has a glorious writing style that captures every moment, either heartbreaking, romantic, or the happiest day of your life with a flawless energy. Each scene is packed with meaning to tell a bigger story. James and Lilah are stunning, imperfect characters. Intertwined together, they will forever be a part of their past, present, and future. For better or for worse, we experience both in this first part of the duet. Never have I rooted for a flawed character to overcome their demons like I did for Lilah...her love for James is spellbinding and crippling. He will forever be her crutch and her lifeline, her inner struggle drew me in from the first chapter. I couldn't wait to see what this book held for me.
I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from this dynamic writing duo. I love their rom coms, but I'm not a huge ansgty reader. My mind was blown in the first 15%, I couldn't wait to DEVOUR the rest of the story. I'm amazed how much I loved this journey. I highly recommend James and Lilah's story!

WTF did I just read is my first reaction I had after reading this story. Then my next reaction is this is one of those books you love to hate but like a train wreck you have to keep reading to see what is going to happen next and when you do your like HOLY EFF what the hell did I just read because man what a train wreck our main character is. I know this is a duet but man that cliff hanger has me thinking it is going to be more bullshiz from the main character.
James is a big time movie star who has raised himself up from nothing to something and he is living the high life. He has it all and including a gorgeous model girlfriend who he has grown up with. James girlfriend has a problem and when I say a problem is it huge she is a drug addict and drunk. James is always there for her and helps her through it all. He does everything but put her where her arse needs to be which is in rehab.
I mean she does some outrageous things and her behavior affects James but he doesn't let it show. She has sex with other men for drugs and does some other disrespectful things for drugs and James just takes it all in. It has me thinking that James needs a back bone because if I were him I would have kicked her arse to the curb with her first stunt.
I am looking forward to book two in this duet because I need to see what happens with James and Lilah. If Lilah does the same shiz and doesn't get her arse in gear I will be so pissed because James deserves better.

All We Were by Elisabeth Grace and Michelle Lynn was not what I was expecting at all. It was heart rendering and so very emotional.
This novel touches on some heavy topics; abuse, addiction and the complication of relationships. It touches on this pretty hard. My heart was literally pounding reading this book. It was incredibly overwhelming and intense.
The relationship between Lilah and Jimmy was very complicated, and it was interesting to see the development of it; the mountains they had to leap. It was very rollercoaster-like, and I didn't see any of it coming. It was at certain points, a very good example of a toxic relationship.
To say that the novel was intense is an understatement. It was sometimes hard to read, and at certain points there was the need to drag the characters out of their stupidity and just tell them to stop doing what they're doing. It was pretty overwhelming at times, and the emotion was very much on the heavy side.
The novel also showed both sides of Hollywood: The opportunity and the temptation. It showed both coins of the wonders of LA, and how that affected Lilah and Jimmy's relationship.
All We Were was an emotional rollercoaster ride. It was intense and emotional and beautifully written. It was one of the best reads of 2019, and I cannot wait for book two!

Wow! Just! Wow!
his is so not what I was expecting when I decided to read this new book by the co-authors behind Piper Rayne. It’s soo different to what they write as that duo, it’s like chalk and cheese.
Jimmy Crawford and Lilah Robbie were the off/on Hollywood couple who were as far from perfect as it was possible to get. These two have known each other since they were little kids and lived a he!!ish past. They escaped and made it to Hollywood and became stars. There world should have been filled with happiness but only one of them had managed to cast off the suffocating blanket of their tormented upbringing.
Does love conquer all? So all the great love stories suggest but for Lilah and Jimmy it’d more of I love you/ I hate you kind of thing.
But these are two damaged people trying to survive. Can they do it? More importantly, can the do it together or will the final nail be hammered into the coffin of their mostly destructive relationship. Only time will tell.
Well, that and getting my hands of All We Are.
Sooner rather than later.

Neither have worked through the teams of their pasts but they are trying to move on. They face ups and downs the size of mountains but it seems to always work out, until one final straw breaks the bonds they have managed to hold onto.
This story of Jimmy and Lilah will leave you raw and exposed, especially with the crazy cliffhanger at the end, but it is a definitely must read. I seriously can not wait for the next book!

I have to say that this book has left me a little bit shell shocked.
Completely engrossing, this is a beautiful, if heart-wrenching, story of childhood friends and lovers. The circumstances which led to their current situation is teased out throughout this volume; an integral strand to the story arc that plays out.
It is, I think, impossible not to make a connection to these characters. Their feelings are so very raw and so alive on the pages that they are almost a tangible thing.
And, despite the gritty nature of the tale, it is a wonderfully heartfelt read. The cover completely does justice to the restrained longing of this couple.
That ending though. Sheesh.
