Life isn’t all sunshine and love like they tell you as a child. Life is about pain and sometimes love doesn’t stand the test of time. Member of the Powder River Pack, werewolf Derek Sumerland had found his one true mate after tragedy struck at an early age. Annabelle Daniels was his everything until she wasn’t. And now he lives his life with the daily reminder of the fact he didn’t fight for her or go after her when he should have. His heart is wrecked; his chest is forever in a vice and yet, he somehow finds a way to go on with his so called life. Annabelle left her past with a broken heart. She did her best to never look back until her estranged father began to edge closer to his death bed. Even with thoughts of Derek, it is guilt that pushes her back to Fetterman, Wyoming. She didn’t expect to see him and certainly didn’t expect to find a handsome, angry man where the young man she loved stood. He wasn’t lying when he said she was the one. Annabelle must decide between the love of her life and the life she has worked hard to achieve. Can they have a second chance?
Brooke lives on the dangerous side. Dangerous in that she had no fear walking into the dark woods alone. When she isn’t venturing in the woods, creeping up on animals to photograph, or casting a line where she can, she’s busying her way through whatever random story has consumed her. With an imagination that is far from limited; you’ll never know if you’re getting a werewolf or hunting guide, or something dark next. Brooke lives in northern Wyoming that inspires almost everything she writes. You never know, she might have already unleashed your new favorite book boyfriend into the world. She loves hearing from readers and anyone who feels like talking. Feel free to pay her a visit whenever.
A Second Chance (Powder River Pack Book 1) by Brooke May is a second chance romance shifter story and a good start to the series. The characters were likeable and there is a lot of emotions in this story and pain and sorrow are the main attraction and all because of lies. I loved the best friend, he bought fun to the story and had me laughing out loud at times.
Separated by lies and deceit, two people have lived with heartache and pain ever since. What happens when one returns to the place it all happened? What happens when they find out what kept them apart? What happens when they can no longer deny their feelings?
If you love shifters and want to know the answers to the questions above then you will need to grab a copy and enjoy.
This was a different read for me. I am not normally a paranormal reader. It took me a little bit to get into the book. Derek is frustrated that his mate has left him. He can't move on and is in annoying everyone around him. Annabelle is summoned home to take care of things and can't help the connection that she has to Derek. There are some interesting characters along the way. I look forward to seeing where this author goes with this series.
Derek Sumerland is a man who has had his heart broken, but it still affects him many years later because he is a werewolf and his heart was broken by his fated mate, the other half of his soul and because of that he has never been able to move on. Annabel Daniels is a young woman who also has a broken heart, but even though she is a human, she still has never been able to get over her first love.
This all happened when they were both kids, Annabelle had to leave and Derek never followed her, each thought the other had abandoned them, so when Annabelle has to return years later to her hometown, to settle affairs with the father she wished she never had to see again, but she is guilted into it and so makes the decision to go home. Meanwhile, the Powder River pack Derek belongs to have gotten used to his surly self and it is nothing compared to when he was younger, despite the tragedies in his past, so instead, he has thrown himself into work and his day-to-day existence.
When she does arrive in Fetterman, Wyoming, she hopes that she won't see the young man she left all those years ago, but she also secretly hopes that she will. Derek has become a grumpy and broken man, however, when he finds out that Annabelle has come back, he immediately wants to go to her, however, he is also scared of her reaction if he does. When they encounter each other for the first time, the feelings return full force for the both of them, but it is not all smooth sailing and although there is hope when they start to talk, love is something painful, as well as beautiful.
As the attraction builds and their bond strengthens, choices have to be made and the realisation that their lives are about to change leads to the biggest choice of all, can they build a life together, or will their dreams block the way? This is a steamy shifter romance where past and present collide as fated mates come back together, and second chances appear in a tension filled and spicy story.
A Second Chance (Powder River Pack Book 1) By: Brooke May 5 out of 5 stars
The story A Second Chance (Powder River Pack Book 1) by Brooke May is a paranormal romance book. This is a genre that I have always loved reading and this story is a good example of why. The book hooked me in from the very beginning and I couldn’t put it down until I read the ending page. The story had my emotions going up and down and had me wanting the two main characters to get a second chance at love. I loved reading about Derek Sumerland and Annabelle Daniels. These two found love at an early age and then suddenly found themselves apart. Both brokenhearted they went on with their lives however each kept having thoughts of the other and no one else made them feel the same as when they were together. Now Annabelle has come back to Fetterman, Wyoming to assist her estranged father as he is gravely ill. These two still have an attraction and are affected when they see each other. What wasn’t there before is the anger/conflict that they feel. Will Derik and Annabelle get another chance at love? Annabelle has made a wonderful career for herself in the time that she has been gone. Will she be forced to make a choice between that career and love? What does the future hold for Derek and Annabelle? Does it include a happy ending? Read this book to find out. I enjoyed reading about the additional characters, about the part they play in the story and the way they interact with Derek and Annabelle. There are heartbreaking and heartwarming parts to this story. It shows the importance that family and friends play in life. This is an amazing story with wonderful characters. It is the first book in a series and I am looking forward to reading the next one.
A Second Chance is a heartfelt shifter romance about first love, heartbreak, and finding your way back to the one person you never truly forgot. Derek, a werewolf bound to his fated mate, has spent years stuck in his grief after losing Annabelle. Annabelle, human and just as broken, has built a life away from her hometown but never moved on from him. It appears to be the stereotypical one who got away trope, but with a twist!
When Annabelle returns to her home town to deal with her estranged and dying father, old wounds reopen. Derek is no longer the carefree boy she loved but a grumpy, guarded man weighed down by regret and anger. The pull between them is still there, strong and undeniable, but this time it comes with anger, fear, and hard choices.
This is not a light and fluffy shifter romance. The tone is emotional and heavy from the start, focusing on two damaged people trying to heal and decide if love is worth the risk again. The chemistry is intense, the emotions run deep, and the small town pack setting adds a great sense of community.
I was hooked from the beginning and flew through the pages, rooting hard for Derek and Annabelle to get their second chance. A strong start to the Powder River Pack series, and I am definitely looking forward to what comes next. On to book 2!
A Second Chance (Powder River Pack Book 1) by Brooke May is a highly emotional, raw, paranormal shifter romance; that tells the tale of the struggle of lost love. It's a tale of trying to build trust and friendship, in order to get that second chance.
My first read by this author and with a genre I love, so needless to say I had had my expectations high. I'm glad to say I wasn't led astray and am very happy with this read.
This book isn't your normal light hearted shifter romance. It had a looming sadness, that's made apparent in the first chapter. That tone seems to stay as the story moved on, and we meet our MC's. It was a nice feature and it makes you get into their minds sets, connecting you; right away you know this isn't going to be a happy-go-lucky read. This story is about two broken souls, who have been hurt by love, are angry at it and collide. So there is a lot of ups, down, fighting and of course, raw frustering emotions.
This book isn't only about the strong feels, it's richly detailed and has a smooth easy writing style, that pulls you into this gem. This book is worth it and it gets my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval. So I hope you give this feel kicker a read, you won't regret it.
An enjoyable and engaging second chance romance with a paranormal twist, which kept me happily turning the pages. Werewolf, Derek Sumerland is a member of the ‘Powder River Pack’ and met his fated mate at an early age, but then tragedy struck. He now just about gets through each day, regretting the fact that he didn’t fight for her or go after her. Meanwhile, Annabelle Daniels left her past behind her but still has a broken heart. When her estranged father is dying Annabelle reluctantly returns to Fetterman, Wyoming. She had not planned on seeing Derek but when she does, she finds that instead of the young man she loved, he is now an angry man, although still handsome. As fated mates neither of them can deny their connection, but Annabelle now has a life elsewhere and one which she has worked hard to achieve. The pair must decide if they can have a second chance together. The descriptive narrative brought the setting vividly to life making me feel immersed in the ‘Powder River Pack’s’ world. I loved the likeable and relatable characters, and I found the chemistry between Annabelle and Derek really came across in the narrative. I look forward to future books in this new series.
First we got Mason’s story. Time for Derek, his best friend. Derek grew up hearing stories of how werewolf’s would find their mate, for life. It was a once in a lifetime thing. He always wanted his parents thing. Annabelle came into his life in childhood. Her momma liked him. Her daddy hated him from the get-go. Annabelle knew what he was and loved him anyway. Derek was heartbroken when Amos told her she had moved on. Fast Forward ten years later, she comes back for her daddy’s death, can they pick up where they left off? There is a lot of history to deal with? This is an excellent book. The story plays out terrific. It goes along so smooth. There is no choppiness. The characters feel just like a small town. Derek is relatable with his frustration over his feelings. Annabelle is just totally relatable for being in a relationship and trying to deal with daddy issues. They go through some heavy stuff, and with him being a werewolf on top? Boom, issues for sure. I loved this book too. Totally engaged me. On to book 3. I highly recommend you read this one too.
This is the first book in the Powder River Pack series, where we are introduced to a group of werewolves and their mates. In this series, only males can be werewolves, but they are mated to females that are regular humans. Derek and Annabelle met while younger and dated for a few years before Annabelle was forced to move due to a bad marriage and her parents getting divorced. Annabelle's dad seems to have a problem with people, no one seems to make him happy including his daughter and ex-wife. As we progress through the story, we find out why Annabelle's dad hates Derek, and life in general and takes this anger out on everyone around him. He wants everyone to be miserable just as much as he is and has no problem going to extreme measures to achieve this. This was an amazing first book in this series and introduces a ton of great characters that I am so excited to get to know more in the next books. @Brandy Rymer 01/2024
Derek and Annabelle seemed like they were going to together forever. After her family was torn apart by divorce she left the pack and went on to become a well known and respected wildlife photographer. However, her father is dying and she must go back to help settle his affairs. She has a bunch of mixed emotions about returning and doesn't know what to expect. How will she be received? Derek didn't think he would see the love of his life again. He was left with no explanation and a broken heart. He had managed to move on with his life, but now that she's back he won't let her go. I have read a few other books by this author and enjoy her writing style. I look forward to seeing how the rest of this series plays out.
I’ve been recently drawn into second chance romances lately and this one did not disappoint. I’ve read several of Brooke May’s works so I definitely wanted to give this series a try. To top it off, these books focus on werewolves. It’s so good in depicting the deeply connected romance of Derek and Annabelle as teenagers and now as adults. How the mate connection brings these werewolves balance to their aggressive selves. Derek and Annabelle met in middle school and were inseparable. They felt as if they belonged to one another. When the situation got tough, Annabelle and her mother moved away and their relationship dissolved. Now many years later, they are brought back together in their same small town in Wyoming and the feelings are still there.
A great first book in this werewolf series. This isn’t a genre I usually read, but I am glad that I did because it was very good. I enjoyed this story and became connected to Derek and Annabelle right away. Their story and what caused them to be driven apart at a young age despite being fated mates was heart wrenching, but made it all the more significant as the story continued. Spence is hilarious and probably my favorite character in the whole book. I really had a blast reading this one and can’t wait to dive right into the rest of the series. Well done Brooke May. This is my first of hers, but it definitely won’t be my last.
A Second Chance is the first book in The Powder River Pack Series by Brooke May. It is a great paranormal romance, with second chances, werewolves, action, anger, bitterness, heartache, pain, passion, secrets, lies, trust issues, conflict, drama, and more. Annabelle Daniels is a successful wildlife photographer whose work takes her all over the world. Annabelle loves what she does, she’s worked hard to get to where she is, especially being able to work alongside her best friend Spence. She is highly respected in her field and has built a great life. But there is a part of her that feels incomplete and lonely. She often thinks about her childhood home, the place she left with her mother, when her parents divorced years ago- leaving her heart behind in the process. She hasn’t been back since, but when she is called to take care of her dying fathers affairs, she has no choice but to venture back to the place that holds such painful memories. Derek Sumerland is a werewolf who has a very painful past. His experiences have left him angry and bitter- a difficult man to be around. He lost his joy for life, now getting by day to day, but not really living. You see, Derek thought he’d found his mate for life, back when he was on 13 years-old. She was his everything, the light in his life. Then she up and left him, shattering his heart in the process. He is a broken man, haunted by dreams of the woman he loved. So, imagine his shock to see her walk into the bar where he works. What happens you ask? Well, you really should read all the exciting details for yourself! I really enjoyed this story and reading Ms. Mays take of the shifter/werewolf lore. The characters are well developed, interesting, and endearing (except for the one we’re meant to hate)- I especially loved meeting Grandma Pearl, she added an extra element of fun to the story and pretty much stole any scene she was in. The only real issue I had (and it is just my own preference I suppose) was with the repeated information at the beginning of each perspective transition/change over- going over some of the same information we’d just read, but from the other characters perspective. Apart from being frustrating, it just slowed down the flow for me. But this is somewhat of a minor issue and didn’t really detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the story. I am really looking forward to reading all the other ‘pack’ members stories- starting with Alpha Mason, in the next book. Can’t wait!
I love all kinds of shifter books and most of them have a fated mate, sometimes things go according to plan and other times not so much. This book will send your emotions on a roller coaster ride, sometimes cheering for Derek and Anabelle and other times yelling at them for being so blind.
Derek and Anabelle find love in each other at a very young age, but even the best love sometimes falls apart. At one point finding themselves apart and broken hearted, each with the same feeling of discontent in future relationships. Annabelle goes off and makes a career for herself, but finds she must return as her estranged father is dying. Out of a sense of guilt and duty she finds herself pulled back to fetterman, Wyoming. Where she must face Derek again except he is no longer the young man she once loved, he is bitter and angry and confrontational. Can Derek and Annabelle find their happy ever after together or is the past too much to overcome? Will Annabelle sacrifice the career she has built for herself for the love of a man she has never gotten over? This is a book all about how we don’t always know the full story when it comes to relationships. It is about overcoming the past and working to build a future worth living for. I loved this book and am super excited to read what comes next for the Powder River Pack!
I give A Second Chance (Powder River Pack Book 1) by Brooke May, 4 stars.
Derek is a werewolf of the Powder River Pack. He met his mate at a young age and couldn't imagine life without her. Until she was gone. He thought it best to let her do what she wants. But it has made him miserable. He will never be the same without her.
Annabelle has a wonderful career and she absolutely loves what she does. Plus it keeps her far away from her hometown. But it doesn't fill the whole left in her heart. When circumstances arise, she has to go back to that very same town she grew up in. Maybe she can avoid Derek while she is there. Can she get that lucky?
This was a good paranormal romance. The story was interesting, and heart breaking at times. I really like how the author portrays the werewolves as something different than what we normally see. That made me happy to see her breaking the standard in the genre. I also liked the main characters, especially Annabelle. The only thing the got me was, this being the first book in a series, I felt a little bit thrown into it. I would have liked to have seen more about the pack itself so i understood it more. But overall, this was a great story about Derek and Annabelle and I highly recommend it.
A Second Chance (The Powder River Pack #1) By Brooke May Rated 3 stars
The actual story is very enjoyable. The whole wolf and mate thing is perfect. The characters are good but there is one who steals the book. Spence! He is a wonderful character. He makes me laugh and want to know more about him. I did enjoy the boys in the pack as well. Their little pow wows with Derek.....priceless.
There are a few things I am not a fan of in this book. I don’t care for the repeats at the beginning of each chapter. I am in the moment and anxious for the story to move forward after the last comment or thought in the previous chapter. I don’t want the brakes applied. I feel it should basically pick up where the last scene left off and let the momentum carry me forward. This type of writing leads me to skipping ahead and being bored. There is also a lot of narrative and too much thinking. I enjoy dialogue so much more. I just didn’t feel a connection to the characters....well maybe Derek. I also was left with a few unanswered questions.
Again this is a good story with a few things i don’t care for. The idea and characters were good and that Spence...he was golden! I enjoy paranormal romance and wolf shifters are my fav. This one just fell flat for me
Second chance paranormal shifter romance. An emotional wringer.
4.5 rounded up.
A fairly short read (a few hours), this is the first book in a series. This novel is not a straight forward romance and will put your emotions through the wringer! Heads up that this book has easter eggs as to things that happen in the other books as they read as if they are happening simultaneously for the most part.
This book follows Annabelle and Derek, and their journey back to one another.
I enjoyed the slight murder mystery that occurs in this book alongside the journey Annabelle and Derek must go through to be back together. There’s hesitancy on both their parts, which is understandable after being apart, and thinking the other didn’t care in the same way, for eight years.
In this series the men are the shifters (werewolves) but it’s not the kind we’re used to reading about, where they’re larger than normal wolves but basically the same; here, the werewolves are some hybrid animal that takes over control of the body only on the full moon and sometimes when emotions get too extreme.
I really enjoyed the additional input of side characters, some of whom we see more of in the future books in this series.
Brooke May is a new author to me, and I find that she is a great writer. In these times when everything else is going wonky, it is nice to know that there are books that can take your mind off things for a while and escape into a book. A Second Chance is that book. This book has it all, werewolves, action, heartaches, secrets, love, trust, and second chances. I can tell that Brooke put all of herself into this story. The characters are believable, and the scenery is beautiful. Story is about Derek and Annabelle. Derek gave his heart and soul to one lady. This is what is the norm, together forever. Once your heart is broken by your true soul mate it is hard to trust others with your heart. The walls are there, and they do not come down easily. Annabelle who left her past there in the past push forward and did not want to go back. She received news that her father was on his death bed. She had a hard reality check; does she go back and face her past or keep moving forward with her new life. Will she see her ex and if so, what will the encounter be like? Will there be a Second Chance for them? Read on to see what the answer to this burning question.
This is the first book in a paranormal romance series. Each book can be read as a standalone. I have already started the second book and can see that the stories are running concurrently. This is an author that I have read several times in the past and have always enjoyed reading their books: and this was no exception. I really enjoyed this book. As the title suggests, this is a second chance romance. Werewolf Derek let his true love and mate slip through his fingers many years ago, now she’s back in town as her father is very ill and he’s determined that this time he’ll get his mate back for life. I really enjoyed reading Derek and Annabelle’s story. It’s quite angsty as you would expect from a second chance romance. I enjoy a good angsty read so this book was just what I needed. Derek and Annabelle are great characters to read. Derek is a moody pain in the backside since losing Annabelle many years ago. Both believed that the other broke their heart and the hurt that both are feeling makes this a very good read. The author did a great job of pulling me into the story from the very beginning and keeping me engaged and wanting to read more, right up to the very end.
A Second Chance by Brooke May: Powder River Pack Book One
5-Stars
Anna and Derek are meant to be mates but when her parents’ divorce, she is forced to move away with her mother at sixteen. Separated from each other they both believe that the other moved on. Ten years later as her father is starting to die, Anna returns to settle his accounts. She knows she will run into Derek.
Derek has been heartbroken for ten years since Anna left. It completely changed him. He hates that he let her go and has been unable to connect with his wolf since she left. When he finds out that her father is near death he begins to prepare for her returning, believing whole heartedly that she has moved on.
I loved following the reunion of these two wonderful characters. There were so many emotions present in this novel. I hated that the two lost all that time together. I found that the storyline was easy to read and get lost in. I also really enjoyed Spence’s character. He was Anna’s best friend.
5 Star A Second Chance ( Powder River Pack Book 1) By Brooke May is a paranormal romance and a book I loved reading. The more paranormal romance books I read the more I love the genre. I had a hard time putting this down once I started reading. I felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster ride as my emotions were all over the place. This story is about Derek and Annabelle. These two found love early in life and then found themselves apart.Although both of them was broken hearted they both went on with their lives. They both found themselves not as happy with other people as they were together. Now that Annabelle finds herself back in Fetterman due to her estranged father being gravely ill. There is definitely still an attraction between these two when they see each other. Can these two get a Second chance at love?Annabelle has made a wonderful career for herself. If forced to choose her career or love which will she choose? Find out what happens with these two, I highly recommend reading this Book and I look forward to reading more from this Author.
A SECOND CHANCE is a second chance romance (it says it in the title, so I'm not giving anything away). Soul mates reunite after being apart for 10 years. He is something from a horror movie (rather) than a romance one. She is a skilled photographer who hasn't felt for another like she did for him all those years ago.
This is book 1 in a new series called "Powder River Pack". There is a note from the author that this book was originally supposed to be the third in the series but she decided to switch things up. They statement makes sense because there are characters who seemed as if we had met them before. As I was reading I thought this was actually a spin off from a different series I had not read.
The story has some dimension to it. Because Derek isn't an alpha in the pack, it was cool to read about a less dominant male in a tribe.
I have put the series on my "watch list" and will keep an eye out for future books.
A Second Chance (The Powder River Pack #1) By Brooke May 4 stars
I thought that A Second Chance was a really enjoyable paranormal read. It is the first book that I have read by this author and I found that it didn’t take me long to be engaged by her writing style and hooked into the story. I have really started to enjoy paranormal stories now so I was really looking forward to reading something by a new to me author. I did find myself a little lost at time I will admit with the repetitive style that the author had adopted and it not a style I am used to however I don’t think it really took anything away from the storyline and the characters. The author’s detailed writing allowed me to become fully immersed in the lives of the main characters and I was right there along with them as they experience a whole host of emotions. I really did feel a connection with them. I will certainly be looking forward to the next book in the series!
A Second Chance (Powder River Pack #1) by Brooke May
This isn't the first book I've read by the author. A Second Chance is book one in the Powder River Pack Series. The author sure knows how to keep a reader entertained.
Annabelle is coming home after ten years. She still thinks about Derek. She thinks he's moved on and doesn't understand why he didn't come after her. Can they forget the past and try again? The quote I chose for Annabelle is: “Make yourself at home. We have a shit ton of work to get started on.”
Derek is a werewolf and no longer has the connection with his wolf. He let his mate walk away from him ten years ago and hasn't made any move to go after her. He learns that she's married now and doesn't want to ruin her happiness. The quote I chose for Derek is: “I’m not really sure. We are better now, or at least, I feel like we are, but as for a relationship, I’m not sure yet.”
This is the first Paranormal book I have read by this author and to say I am hooked would be an understatement. I will say though, if you aren't a huge Paranormal fan, don't worry, I still believe you will absolutely love this series because while the story is about a Werewolf pack at it's core it's truly a romance about a man and a woman torn apart by the lies and deception of others. Derek and Annabelle meet at a young age at school and soon become inseparable with Derek knowing Anna is his fated mate. Lies and deception from others tear them apart for many years until Anna returns to town to deal with her dying father. They are both forced to face the past, find the truth of what really happened and deal with the outcomes. I just have to mention Spencer, Annas bestie, He is a gem and total crack up. I'd love to see him have his story told one day and find his love with a big bad werewolf.
A Second Chance (Powder River Pack book 1) by Brooke May 4 stars
This is my first read by this author and I love a good shifter book. While this one didn't focus on the shifting part, it was still there and very interesting as they weren't the "average" werewolves!
What would you do if your mate moved away and you lost the other half of yourself? That's what Derek is feeling for years now after Annabelle left with her mom. Hes lost the voice of his wolf, and the happiness he once felt. When she comes back to town for her father, he is eager to get his questions answered but doesn't expect her to have the same ones. As they get answers, they learn the past wasn't what they thought it was.
I highly recommend this book, was a very fast paced and quick read. Hope to read more of this pack.
So, these types of books are usually my thing, but A Second Chance didn’t quite fit the bill. Don’t get me wrong I didn’t hate it. It was alright, just not a favorite. It started off slow, with lots of hard headed-ness from the main two characters. Derek, watched his mate leave when he was 16, not only did he lose his wolf but he lost himself. Annabelle always pined for Derek if she’s willing to admit it or not. These two are so stubborn it’s frustrating at times. The one thing I did love was Spence, Annabelle’s best friend and right hand when it comes to work. His flamboyance definitely lifted up a rather dull story for me. He helped lighten up the two main characters which helped me start to come around as I continued the story. The author gives me slight intrigue, because of the well written supporting character. I intend to look into other written works to see how they are.
This is such a great paranormal read! Annabelle and Derek have known that they were fated mates from the time that they were teens. They quickly fell hard for each other but when Annabelle's parents split she moved away. As much as they planned to stay together, outside forces were conspiring to keep them apart and it worked. Both of them are left miserable without the other and unable to stop thinking about the other. Fate brings them back together and it's their chance to right the mistakes of the past, if they can set their pride aside and really communicate with each other. That isn't the only stumbling block that will determine if they get their happily ever after. This book is full of paranormal, romance and mystery and you won't want to miss it! I'm so excited to read the next book in this series.
A Second Chance by Brooke May is the first book in the Powder River Pack series. It is a great story about fighting for what you want or learning to live with the hole it leaves behind. This is a new author to me and I was excited to get into this book. The blurb promised an angsty tale and that is definitely what you get. I was drawn into Derek so easily. It was so easy to feel what he was going through. And it was easy to understands Annabelle’s decision over her new life and her old. The story had good pace that flowed from start to end. There was never a point where my attention wandered or I thought there was too much going on. An enjoyable book, I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
Brooke May's A Second Chance is the first book in the Powder River Pack series. This story is a paranormal contemporary romance featuring shifters. The author quickly sets the scenes and begins with character introductions along with some backstory to give the story more detail and depth. There was something about Derek's character throughout the story that just spoke to me and pushed me through chapter after chapter. Annabelle is Derek's other have and seeing the struggle along with the back and forth that ensues, it pulls at the heartstrings. Brooke May really drew on the emotional card to create a captivating story that introduces the start of what is bound to be an enthralling series.
