I enjoy the protagonist's curiosity and empathy. I really like the beastfolk girls and how the protagonist wants them to be able to defend themselves. The "game like" elements of the story were non-stop and got exhausting. More young women were introduced at the end of this volume. Between the protagonist's reaction to them and the multiple bath scenes with the current female characters, I'm concerned this manga is going to get over-sexualized.
The chief problem with the manga adaptation appears to be the fact that Satou now feels like any old fifteen-year-old overpowered protagonist. In the novel his real age of twenty-nine gave the otherwise cookie cutter story something of an edge. Here it just feels like yet another iteration of the same old story.
In continuation of my review of the first volume, this book helps us see some character traits in Satou that, thankfully, put him outside of the "Mary-Sue" category. On top of that, there's a cliffhanger that sort of teases getting the answers we readers are wanting since the whole thing started. While I'm excited to see the story branching out, for those who are still antsy about the "harem" trope, I'm afraid to say that so far it looks to be that way, but not in the conventional sense. The whole ordeal might change by the next two books, so I hope you can be a little lenient toward the story. Overall, this was a good volume to set the tone for the main character.
Rather bland story with a predictable and oddly flat characters. I enjoyed the three beast-folk girls and would read more of this series if I'll get to see more of them, but the rest of the characters and their relationships didn't capture my attention. The artwork and pacing are still good, but the plot is formulaic.
Also: Not going to lie. I'm annoyed with the obligatory "female character's shirt falls apart during battle, revealing her boobs without her seeming to notice" scene. She has so many neat skills, but she's reduced to a flimsy, sexualized character infatuated with the main character. *sigh*
Another installment in this Parallel world manga shows Satou being kind to many. Once again, I really enjoy this kind of thing, so I might be biased. In general, Satou merely gets new party members and escapes a Labyrinth.
In this volume, Satou and the three beast girls are stuck in the labyrinth and need to work their way towards the exit, fighting monsters as they go. Zena is trapped in another location and it isn't long before the two groups meet up to face off with the big bad. This volume of the manga covers the last half of the first light novel and leaves on that same intriguing ending.
At this stage...I feel like I might be leaning towards the light novel more than the manga. There's some little details missing from the manga that are in the light novel and on one hand it's kind of expected, but on the other...I feel like Satou's character works better in the light novel where you have a better understanding of him. In the manga I find it easy to forget he's actually 29, and his age was what made him interesting and stand out to me in the light novel.
This series has such colourful and enticing covers, and the art in both the manga and light novel is fun and cute. I really do like the artwork! The story is brilliantly paced and you can breeze through it easily, and I enjoyed the dungeon adventurer vibe to this volume of the manga. I'm a sucker for that kind of thing though!
Of the characters, I'm really enjoying the beast girls in the manga, I loved them in the light novel, and I love them in the manga. I'm so eager to see more of them, and I've loved how Satou has taken them under his wing and helped them level up and everything. I'd like to see more of Zena fighting too, because I'm so curious about what she can do!
The ending of this volume leaves you intrigued and wanting to find out what the deal is with this strange new girl, who quite clearly knows something that Satou doesn't. I'm definitely interested in finding out where this story is going to go and what's going to happen next, I'm just not sure whether to go with the manga or the light novel!
After the first volume for me hooked i continued on to the second quite quickly, the series keeps going at a steady pace making sure i as the reader understand all thats going on.
The labyrinth arc has been really intriguing along with the introduction of the beast girls all of which bring out something more in the series.
The final chapter look ahead at some more character introductions that will bring some more personality to the new group.
