Fast-paced action, fun-filled adventure, and short, page-turning chapters will inspire your 8- to 12-year old Fortnite fan to love reading. Josh Johnson is trying to find his way back to the life he must have lead before, but it's not going well. Finding himself on a flying bus is confusing enough. At least skydiving is easy, well, easier than facing a pickaxe-wielding madman. Avoiding snipers is harder. If Josh wants to escape this island battleground, he's going to have to fight for that win. Unfortunately, surviving armed enemies isn't Josh's biggest challenge. A darker and more deadly danger is closing in. The Storm is coming. GameNite is the first in a series of fun, action-packed stories inspired by real gameplay in the Fortnite universe. It's a great way to get reluctant readers to disconnect from the game for a few minutes and pick up a book. GameNite is perfect for Fortnite, PubG, or Overwatch fans, as well as readers of video game books for kids like The Legend of Battle Island, Diary of a Minecraft Zombie, the Trapped in a Video Game series, Cube Kid books, and Fortnite Tales. Although inspired by real gameplay, this Fortnite story is unofficial and not endorsed by Epic Games. Please support Epic Games by downloading Fortnite. It's free to play, a lot of fun, and CassyJosh would love to see readers in the game!
I have reviewed several books by the author Bec J. Smith and liked her P.T. Penguin books. Now getting that book, i was curious about it. It was different, but still i liked it. In this book Josh tries to find a way to connect with the world as it seams he lost it, being autistic. He struggles through different things he has to do, and knows, that he has to win. Because the last one standing gets home. And he wants to be that person.
Lots of black and white graphics make this a fun, quick read for teens and pre-teens, especially those who like computer games… so they can “switch to my drumgun so I can lay into him with a steady pulse… see the blinking numbers of damage bouncing off him…” Slivers of metal might be left when a corpse disappears, and they might even be useful. Last one standing goes home.
The pictures, words and storyline convey the sense of a computer game perfectly, and reading this for an adult is like looking over a 10-year-old son’s shoulder while he plays—looking over his shoulder while he doesn’t complain. Just maybe, this could be the sort of book said 10-year-old might read without complaining too!
Disclosure: I got it on a deal. It’s a really neat idea.
Josh Johnson finds himself on a flying bus, and he must find his way back to his reality. But he’ll have to fight to win. GameNite, Episode #01 by Bec J. Smith and Cassy Josh is an action-packed, illustrated romp inspired by the Fortnite story from Epic Games. It is designed to entice young gamers away from the screen for a period of reading. Though written for ages 8 – 12, it’s even interesting to older readers, and you don’t have to be a fanatical gamer to appreciate it.
I received a complimentary copy of the book. I give it four stars.
