Rate this book
The story of Alys, a human changeling who is determined to become more than a servant. This box set contains the complete Forever After Trilogy of novellas:
*Book 1: Light of Day
*Book 2: Dark of Night
*Book 3: Forever After

From book 1:
Eighteen years ago, my parents traded my life to save my baby sister. Faerie magic is wild and willful, and to deviate from my place as a changeling servant would mean risking my sister’s life. I’m well cared for by my fae master, a froggy old bogle who isn't half as fearsome as he pretends to be. But I can’t help wanting more.

Stolen trinkets and hidden mementos from the human world, glimpses of another life seen through books and plastic toys, and thin spots in the veil between worlds—they aren’t enough. I want to go home. However, my heart is growing more attached to this world, and to one beautiful, eccentric elf. I just might give up humanity to stay at his side, even if I’ll never be anything more than a lowly servant.

But my elf has secrets of his own, and they are more dangerous than my magic binding or his disregard for the line between light and dark….

Sometimes our greatest strengths come from our deepest challenges. I write magic and romance, starring a cast of creatures with feathers, fins, and teeth. My books include paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and fantasy romance--with the occasional steampunk or alien story thrown in just for kicks. My pan heart firmly believes love is love, so you'll see straight, LGBTQIA, monogamous, reverse harem, and poly relationships in my work. My favorite theme is overcoming our inner demons and the insecurities that hold us back.
I also advocate for self-development and mental health and dabble in non-fiction as time allows. I love the outdoors and still hope to be abducted by fae! (I may have more in common with my characters than I care to admit.)

Reflecting on the series overall- I’m so glad I read it! It definitely started off slow but in hindsight, that feels intentional to build a solid foundation of our characters and their world. The pacing and romance, spice and drama ramped up in each book and in the end it was an incredible tale! Such a treat.

Light of Day
I picked this book up because I LOVE the author and have to read their entire catalog.
I’m glad I got this book as part of the completed trilogy - all in one - because it does feel like they’re designed to be read one after the other.
The book is in first person perspective from the main character, Alys, who is a human brought into the land of Faerie.
We learn pretty early on that she was brought over in exchange for her goblin/ghoul father to heal her baby sister. So it’s like the changeling story, but in reverse, so instead of a fairy child in the human world, she grew up a human child in the fairy world.
This book definitely sets up the faerie world, Alys’s displeasure with being treated as a human servant, and never being allowed to be embraced as the beloved child/pet of her caregiver because of the magic that is part of the binding agreement for her human sister’s health in the human world. She also will never be able to live up in the world because humans in faerie are slaves or food, nothing more. However, she does have a love interest, and he eventually buys her from her father-figure. Alys believes this is so they can have a secret relationship (though he’s a man of few words and doesn’t actually confirm this with words or actions).
There’s a little romance and a little danger and some fun times, and some good friendships set up. However, we never get past passionate kisses in book one, which, as a dark-romance reader, that was challenging for me. It also ends pretty much mid-scene with our main character being a very grumpy lady, waiting to lay into the next person she comes across, so I am definitely jumping into book 2 right away to see where this goes.

Dark of Night
Okay, now we’re cooking! Glad I stuck it out even though book 1 wasn’t the pace I’m used to. Book 2 starts picking up the pace when we get introduced to a new castle, it’s Lord, and some new friends!
Mystery abounds, and you’re kept guessing at the intentions and motives of various characters are.
Alys, for her part, stays mad and determined to not enjoy a darn thing, haha, while she plots her return to the human world. Thank goodness she is being careful about it and wants to learn more about magic before going back, to ensure her family won’t be harmed by her plotting.
We get some big twisteroos towards the end!! Oh and finally a nice detailed adult spicy scene, score!!

Forever After
OMG how sweet it is! That ending was lip-smacking good. Oh and the beginning of this one was great too - we start mid-spicy scene! And we get more throughout.
Book 3 in this trilogy ramped up the pacing and we had some big reveals! I was so excited when the drama with the loverboys was finally resolved - I’d had suspicions but it was so crafty when it all came together! Very well done.
Great drama and pacing, the reveals and twists-and-turns are well executed and explained. We get some great personal growth and maturity out of Alys too (finally, haha dang, this spunky human has kept me on my toes!!)
