Susan Thompson was born with spina bifida, a birth defect that has caused her severe, life-long physical disability. Diagnosed with the disease at two weeks old, she didn’t return home again until nine months later. She suffered through endless surgeries, countless casts, and years in the hospital. However, that is not her story. Susan’s story is about faith in God. It’s about parents and other role models who provided her with love and with instinctive guidance. In this book, Susan looks back on how she found her purpose as a “four-foot-five-inch, spina-bifida-handicapped, third child in a family of humble means and deep convictions.” Susan is blessed with ample quick wit, a great sense of humor, and a desire to contribute. She has taught music in several junior high and high schools, and she was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Today she volunteers at the Murray Arts Council, holds clinics for high school women’s choirs, and volunteers at Primary Children’s Hospital, where she spent much of her childhood. Groups often seek her out to share her uplifting story.
