The bad guys have Old Earth in their crosshairs and will “The Lucky Bastards” be in time to save it?
And Lucky has Rocky (his personal A.I.) to give him insights like this: "“This would be hilarious if someone wasn’t trying to kill us,” Rocky offered. “Oh, wait, it’s still hilarious.”"
"The Da’hune let out a ferocious scream and lunged forward at Lucky. Maybe it was the lingering effects of his resistance to whatever was controlling him, but Clawdius judged poorly in his first attempt to run his claw through Lucky. He lunged too early and lost his momentum. But Lucky was caught in the same moment of blind rage, and he couldn’t have calculated any better. Maybe his spiders had somehow been able to cut through the insanity in his mind in that moment. More likely, it was just pure blind luck."
The basic alliances in this universe keep shifting but, is James running out of ways to keep this on the cutting edge? This book is more of a holding pattern. He has to make us care about more that the survival of Lucky and it isn’t here. In fact, we are in much the same position as is a member of his team, Miggs: "In truth, Miggs didn’t like Lucky. He ran the team like shit, and had no respect for the Empire or what it stood for. He couldn’t even call the Emperor by her title. But she didn’t want to stand here and watch the asshole die. She knew enough about the mission to know this was a one-way mission for her and Angel. That missile wasn’t meant to go back up. They had to find another way out, and Lucky was the only one who could get them back through that corridor and out of here."
We will see if James can write his way out of this self-generated cul de sac. I will tee the next book up, but I'm not in a hurry to get into it.

It took me a little bit to work out again what all the various alliances were, so try to read this book while the previous one is still fresh in your mind.
I found some of April’s machinations a little opaque and overly complex. She tends to the extreme of paranoia and secret-keeping. It makes her character interesting, especially when paired with her particularly entertaining brand of crazy, but she does tend to over-complicate things. Maybe I’m just a little sleepy today, but I never did entirely figure out why she did certain things in a certain way and added particular layers to her plan.
The narrative tone is snarky, sarcastic, zingy, and clever. I really enjoy the feel it lends to the book.
The action quotient, as always, is high and creative. Lucky and his marines, while trying to deploy, get their drop ship blown up and end up making their way to a space station in a highly dangerous, unusual, and eventually hilarious manner. A chase scene that plays out on slow-moving cargo-loader drone platforms–something that sounds ridiculous–is explosive and exciting. As usual the Hate puts in an appearance and Lucky gets the ever-loving crap beat out of him. Things get seriously bloody, folks! Thanks to on-board AIs, nanobots, med bots, regeneration patches, and so on, the marines can take an awful lot of damage and keep on ticking.
Make sure to read past the author’s note at the end–the author included a copy of “Lucky Shot” in the kindle ebook version I read, which is Lucky’s origin story. This volume is a solid entry into the series, and I look forward to the next release!

I'm in it for the long haul
As I am nearing the last couple of books in the series, I have to say it's been a heck of a ride! The author has done an impressive job of making me care about an anti-hero who , not only isn't a nice guy, but also isn't particularly likeable.
The characters are more interesting than they are engaging, and even off putting.
That said, the stories are interesting, original, and I love the tech: especially the nanobots that repeatedly save everyone's skin; literally.
Rocky is my favorite character.
If you like good space opera, read the series. Enjoy!
Note: Some mature language, mature innuendos, and extreme violence.

Still good, but...
Like Lucky, but I'm somewhat lost with some of the manipulation between the 2 alien races, Emperor April, the various human factions.
Will continue the series, but might take a break, especially if I don't see something more with Rocky, the other A.I.'s, maybe something with Malby. Disappointed in the death of Miggs.

Lucky Revenge keeps the momentum rolling with its trademark mix of snark, chaos and space borne shootouts. While not quite as sharp as earlier entries, it still delivers solid fun with fast pacing and plenty of explosive moments. A worthy continuation that fans of the series will tear through with a grin.

This is the last great story that wraps up the second trilogy. If you like great Space Opera, you will love all of the adventures and action that Lucky just can't help but get into. I look forward to the next novel that will start the next trilogy.

Unlucky
I have enjoyed the series up till now. Very disjointed, far to many James bond moments (all the chase scenes), loads of inconsistency, I could go on but I wont, sorry Lucky

Great story!
I can't say enough good things about the Lucky stories. Love the sarcastic humor and that he gets his ass kicked all the time but still heals enough to keep going.

Good story but...
I have been enjoying the Lucky series. I like the characters and their story. My one complaint is that each book and the story have become formulaic.

Lucky mayhem
More and bigger is the hallmark of Lucky's Marines. Lucky is sent on a mission with no information on the reason he's going or the potential enemy he'll face. But one thing is for sure, he'll be in over his head. In fact his head is the only part of his body that won't get blown off. Thank the stars for those nanobots! Plenty of action and plenty of Luck.
