A great telling of a successful revolution in the 17th century, Red Power on the Rio Grande is moving and compelling. Despite being intended for children and teenagers, it is true to the events of the revolution, transgressive of Euro-centric history and anthropology, and clear in its recount of events. The introduction by Prof. Ortiz lends the book a lot of credibility that many books written by white men about American Indians don’t carry. As an introduction to the revolution, I would highly recommend this book, and it makes me want to learn more about Popé and his Pueblo revolution.
