A collection of nineteen short stories and lyrical flash fiction from a prize-winning author, many previously featured in literary journals. Follow an assortment of quirky characters an eccentric artist who resorts to extreme measures for his art, a feisty burlesque dancer, a bride walking the streets of Paris alone, an old lady faking her own death. These stories will take you on an emotional journey, exposing the light and the dark aspects of love, loss, freedom and hope.
Recently I’ve been dipping into Daphne du Maurier’s gothic short stories and a friend suggested I might enjoy Victoria Gemmell’s contemporary collection – Exposure. Whilst Gemmell also writes YA fiction, Exposure is definitely a dark adult collection. It’s an assortment of nineteen short pieces, a mix of twisting flash fiction and short stories, some previously showcased in literary journals. Packed with tension, we’re offered a peek into the lives of persons managing on the edges of society, drifting, often dangerous. A fabulous collection I will return to again and again.
