Marvel's hit scripted podcast is adapted into a comic book series by a very interesting author who shows a huge amount of potential as seriously good comic book writer-creator - Benjamin Percy. Pure delightfully dark old-school Logan, as the returned mutant is seeing mostly through the eyes of 2nd and 3rd parties in this tense Feds investigation of multiple murders in a small town in Alaska. 6 out of 12

Wolverine: The Long Night graphic novel is a decent adaptation of the scripted podcast series.

The story really works best in audio form, but this comic does it's best to summarize and use quality art to tell the story. It would be recommended for those new to the graphic novel medium, as it's a good standalone story without any continuity weight.

The Wolverine depicted in The Long Night is old school. Before he was the ultimate overexposed superhero, he was a mysterious tough wilderness guy and that was interesting enough. He's not even the main star of this story, in fact, but rather a background character in a neo-noir mystery full of false leads and sharp dialogue.

It's fun to compare the different interpretations, but ultimately do yourself a favor and listen to the podcast. It's a damn fine listen.

This has RICHARD ARMITAGE!!! AS WOLVERINE!!! Be still my heart <3

So.... For a story about Wolverine, he doesn't really do much until the very end. Such a shame! For the most episodes, all he got to do was growl a few lines per episode. Not that I'm complaining, the man could read literally anything and I would listen to it, and, plus, he does make a really awesome Wolverine.

Anyways. This was a really cool story (complete with a crazy prophet, people hunting Logan, gruesome killings…), and it does seem like there will be more stories, so yay! Can't wait.

A good all round Wolverine story. I bit different, I know it was based on a podcast, i was not sure about the format to begin with. This is a Logan story but not from his perspective. I have to say it works.

A couple of detectives have tracked Logan to the unforgiving harsh land of Alaska. This place has a 1000 different ways to kill someone even before the human factor is added in.

There have been a string of deaths the one thing the all seem to have in common is "claws". Has Logan gone feral or are there more sinister forces at play.

The story is set before Logan regained all him memories, on the run but before joining the X-men. Though there is mention of the yellow costume, it could be the time he worked for the Canadian government.

A good story the start of Logan starting the down the heroic path. On the run but finding his own purpose. As he said he often not want trouble but trouble find him.

Чудова книга. Звісно, це не зовсім книга, це формат радіо п'єси, або як зараз кажуть, подкаст.

Я почала слухати цей подкаст через Річарда Армітеджа, улюбленого Торіна, голос який можна слухати годинами. Не дивно, що Річард знайшов нішу як аудіоактор, начитуючи книги для Audible, озвучуючи Тревора Бельмонта у мультсеріалі від Netflix Castlevania, і ось взявши на себе непросту роль озвучити Росомаху.

Та досі вже про Річарда та його голос.

Сюжет розгортається у маленькому містечку на Алясці, де хтось жорстоко розправився з командою корабля. Такі собі Малдер і Скаллі (звісно їх звати не так, але аналогія доволі вдала, мені здається) прибувають за наказом ФБР дослідити цей злочин. На ділі ж вони приїхали аби зловити Лоґана, мутанта, вбивцю, зброю. Та не все так однозначно у справі, і у містечку розгортається ціла політична війна за владу між родиною власниками кораблів, місцевою сектою, і групою, яка традиційно страждає від вчинків ласих на прибуток багатіїв - індіанців.

Сюжет багато разів кидав з одного боку в інший, головні підозрювані постійно змінювалися, та одне залишалось незмінним: Лоґан був у центрі всього.

Виконання також чудове: я не думала, що аудіокнига - це формат не для мене, та це не той випадок. Сюжет заполонив мене одразу, чудовий склад голосових акторів передав свої ролі на всі сто, таке враження немов я була там, у цьому богами забутому містечку поряд з Беринговою протокою і спостерігала все на власні очі.

This felt like a left over tv special guest starring wolverine. Which I could have got behind if it wasn't for the reveal being so....well stupid. Art was okay. Overall okay at best.

I've found my new favorite podcast. Excellent voice work, great atmosphere, decent story, if a little thin on substance. Bob Balaban is especially good, but that's always the case, isn't it? Richard Armitage is a perfect Logan. I hope they put a little more story, a little fewer long, atmospheric pauses in the next one.

I loved the atmosphere in this story, and also the way it tried to present something a little different for Wolverine. This is more a noir type tale rather than a superhero story. The Alaskan setting is great and the twists and turns are interesting too. The story did get a little shaky in parts but thankfully never fully lost me. One of the better Wolverine stories I've read recently.

Audiobook for the first time around before I read the graphic novel adaptation and it was a good one. Solid story and nice cast. Some times it would feel a bit too cliché for some of the dialogue but overall it was a solid listen.

Set after the Weapon X program and all the brainwashing and memory wiping and adamantium bonding that's been done on him, Wolverine tries to remember and forget, not being able to live with himself and trying to live as far away from crowded places and people he knows because he doesn't trust himself. So we find him in Alaska and he's in it for good trouble because of lots of killings that are going on in the area. Some say there's a grizzly and some say it's Logan. And the investigation begins.

"I woke up naked in the woods with the blood's taste on my mouth. Blood on my hands. Brain pulsating and I think what the hell have you done, Logan? What have you done?"

Read the comic too, and I have to say, I kinda liked the audiobook better, but this one has some exceptional artwork and a nice adaptation too. Though if you read it right away it spoils the fun, but still holds if you give it some time to forget what happened. Solid adaptation overall.

Special Agents Pierce and Marshall arrive in Burns, Alaska following a string of mysterious deaths and find out there is more to the case than they originally thought. Not your usual superhero story, this story proved to be more of a murder mystery, with Logan kept on the periphery of the narrative. The art fit the story but didn't stand out, except for the grotesque creature that Hudson became. Many of the panels were simplistic, with some faces and background details coming off as blotchy as if there wasn't enough time to sketch or color properly. Not truly fitting in Wolverine's timeline, this story seems like filler, and I would not have been interested if it hadn't been a podcast first.

But the podcast- that was awesome! Marvel put together two seasons about Wolverine, with ten episodes per season. The voice actors were superb as were the sound effects. After comparing the visual and the auditory versions, I choose the podcast version hands down.

But I will bring up one error that the podcast and the graphic novel both had- the name of the other mutant found in Alaska was Wendigo- but "the wendigo is a mythological man-eating creature or evil spirit from the folklore of the First Nations Algonquian tribes based in the northern forests of Nova Scotia, the East Coast of Canada, and Great Lakes Region of Canada" (Wikipedia) and is not a creature from Alaskan First Nations folklore, so I was annoyed at that name misappropriation.

Classic tv series episode construction (Feds investigating some events and trying to reconstruct what happened through various testimonies) quite decently done to be honest.
From a technical pov. Because the plot is as dumb as dull. On my life that’s the last time I’ll ever read a Benny Percy book. His Green Arrow run was by far the worst I’ve read, hysterically overdone and ridiculous and this book is more of the same

It didn’t start too badly though. The first two issues are very decent, somewhere between Twin Peaks and X-Files but then Percy develops the main argument with his usual lack of subtlety and coherence. Ley lines in Alaska? Yeah, sure. A sect of bums trying so hard to sound mysterious they’re laughable. Forget about their motivations, none are given. Rich bad guys so ostentatiously evil they could as well print it on their shirts- the very same subtle characterization than in Green Arrow btw. The rookie local yokel cop, so plainly dumb you want to slap him. Hard. And Wolvie. Not seen too much but totally off-character (he knowingly  maims civilians to get to the bad guy!!).

Art is ok, an honest Charles Adlard rip-off.

Benjamin Percy is a hack. A fraud. Tell your friends and stay away from his crap.

Dois agentes do FBI vão até o Alaska para investigar uma série de mortes que estão acontencendo e todos os sinais indicam que o responsável é o homem chamado Logan, também conhecido como o Wolverine dos X-Men. Este quadrinho foi originiariamente desenvolvido como um podcast o que explica o texto denso e cheio de informações que o quadrinho tem. Mas ao contrário de deixar a narrativa enfadonha, ele deixa a história em quadrinhos muito mais interessante e com um aproveitamento muito maior do que geralmente podemos extrair de materiais como este. Lembra, pela ausência do herói no título, outra minissérie da Marvel, Demolidor: Redenção, que também envolve investigação de assassinato. O roteiro de Benjamin Percy é muito bom, cheio de detalhes narrativos que geramente não vemos nos quadrinhos e isso dá uma dimensão maior para a leitura. Os desenhos do brasileiro Marcio Takara com as cores de Matt Milla fecham perfeitamente com o clima e ambientação da história ganatindo a atmos fera de suspense que ela instiga. Fazia muito tempo que não lia uma história de Wolverine tão interessante. Muito bom!

È un fumetto Marvel, ma non aspettatevi tute colorate e scazzottate tra supereroi. Wolverine: La lunga notte è una storia buia e fredda come le notti in Alaska. È una storia configurata come un giallo, con un'indagine su alcuni omicidi avvenuti in una cittadina del più settentrionale stato americano. Ne è protagonista uno dei più celebri personaggi Marvel, Logan - aka Wolverine, come è noto negli X-Men. Ma è un Logan inselvatichito, a metà tra l'umano e il bestiale.
Questo volume, autoconclusivo, può essere letto anche da chi non sappia nulla della Marvel (un'introduzione scarna fornisce giusto due informazioni per presentare il protagonista). Chissà che non possa portare qualcuno a vedere nei fumetti di supereroi qualcosa di più che tutine attillate e onomatopee.

It was almost a perfect run for me. Loved most of the voice acting, great sound effects and good music.
However when it came to the dialogs or the writing it wasn't up to mi literary standards. There were a lot of repetitions of phrase (like: then what happened). Some interruptions of the monologs seemed forced, ment to make that realistic break when one speaks, but didn't work well for me. Also questions that were coming out of the blue just so that the other character can explain something the authors wanted us to know (like the one at the very ending)
It seems like I've listed a lot of flaws, but these are small things. As a whole experience I enjoyed the show a lot.

I had my ups and downs with this. Ultimately, I enjoyed it. But it was not what I thought it should be. For a story with wolverine in the title, he is not close to really being the main character. Maybe I have more to say about the marketing of this story. But would have liked to see wolverine as much more of a focal point. Was not a fan of the twist at the end, didn’t think it was at all needed. It changed the story for me and not in a positive way. I did like the story and would look forward to more. I certainly would have described the story much more of a mystery, almost detective like in style.

Not really a book, this was presented as a podcast and I tuned in every week to catch each episode as they were released. I found a very fun radio style play and I loved it!
So if you're a fan of Wolverine this'll be a must-have...
This was done with a great story and cast of characters, and OMG Richard Armitage as Wolverine was brilliant!
I caught it on Stitcher, but I know that it's available elsewhere... And the good news is you can now binge the complete story....

I loved the podcast and although the graphic novel adaptation can’t quite recapture that lightning in a bottle it does well enough to stand on its own as a Logan story.

My main complaint is they really couldn’t handle the big twist (the FBI Agents are android Sentinels) well, when it finally happens it’s just feels like an asterisk to the story and not a main component like I felt it deserved

Wolverine: The Long Night is a comic adaptation of a podcast series. So, for me to complain about it being wordy may sound a bit ridiculous because it sort of comes with the territory...but then the art also underwhelmed me...and I was left wondering if I had actually sort of screwed myself out of the better experience by opting to read it instead of just listening to the podcast.

This ended up being way darker than I expected - definitely some CW which I’ll put below - but overall a great detective story which just happened to feature Wolverine. I’m really interested to know if there’s a sequel of sorts to this or if it just exists in the big overall universe of the marvel comics, because Benjamin Percy really knows how to write a Logan story 👌🏻

The Long Night is based on a Wolverine podcast on Stitcher that was also written by Benjamin Percy and the book is really a word for word graphical representation of the podcast. That's not necessarily a bad thing but can't help but have an impact on the reading experience if you have already heard the podcast. Overall, I run hot and cold on Percy but The Long Night is one of the best things of his I have read. One of the real strengths of Marvel is how grounded in real places, usually New York, it's stories often are. Here, Percy drops us in the northern hellscape of Burns, Alaska with its cults, drunk crab fisherman and feral children you couldn't create a better Wolverine story backdrop in a lab. many of the best Wolverine stories feel just a small step removed from our world and Percy also leans into that here to great effect. That effect is also magnified with scarcity. Wolverine is hardly in this story even though he seems to be lurking just around every corner like the shark in jaws. My only complaint is the wrap up came a little fast for me. Percy spent so much time painstakingly building this world that I wanted to spend a little more time in the awful place he created.

It was O.k. and I agree with some other reviews that wolverine is almost useless in this book, I would not say this lightly and sadly its true. The exception is the ending which brings in a little bit of wolverines past and other elements that barely and i mean barely make this a wolverine story. This almost feels more like an x-file (which I'm a huge fan).

The story itself is a murder mystery set in Alaska, it has some o.k. elements but honestly its a little over done. This could have been a sleek story with a few major parts but instead its about a rich family, small town, cult, police squad, and wolverine. It sort of confusing and towards the end I lost interest. The art isnt even that great, seriously I am borderline on recommending it.

Wolverine has long been my favorite comic book character. This is supposed to be some milestone for Marvel and starting a line of scripted podcasts, and it was pretty good to listen to. I did expect to follow the Wolverine though, but we actually see the story play out through the eyes of the special agents, who personally I could've cared less about, and for this reason I am rating it lower than I normally would. It's pretty neat that the setting is in Alaska. Wolverine went up there to be isolated. It's worth a listen if you like comic book media. I listened to it for free on Podcast Republic.

The Long Night starts strong, a propulsive murder mystery with Logan lingering in the background. But by the end, it's a muddled mess. Too many characters, too many red herrings. By the time the killer is revealed, I had no idea who they were. Just another name among many.

You can tell The Long Night is based on a podcast too. Reams of dialogue, mostly two detective-types interviewing the hardened locals of Burns, Alaska. It's generally fine, the dialogue, though it overstays its welcome. After a while, you're kinda eager to see some snikt action. Prepare to be disappointed - Wolverine is barely in this book.

This first Marvel podcast revolves around two federal agents who travel to a sleepy Alaskan town to investigate murders with telltale signs of mutant (particularly Wolverine) activity. The production features top-quality voice actors and sound design (that fidget spinner!), and a sinuous plot that kept me guessing until the bombshell ending. We actually don't get to hear from Logan that much, but he's definitely the same Weapon X-produced, heed-no-warning, reluctant killer with a heavy conscience whom we know and love. Definitely worth a listen.
