AGATHA FROST, an Amazon bestselling author, has written over thirty mystery novels. She lives in the North West English county of Lancashire with her two cuddly beagles and one cat.
When Agatha isn’t writing, she loves reading head-scratching mysteries and thrillers, coffee, baking, and exploring her local countryside on long dog walks.
From a young age, Agatha devoured the great British murder mystery books and television shows, ample inspiration for her Peridale Café and Claire’s Candles series. She loves writing about family women who juggle their ordinary village lives with the challenges of amateur sleuthing.
Add in some good food, close friends and family, cute pets, and plenty of twists and turns, and you have a classic Agatha Frost mystery.
This was a good read. Julia and Barker are all set to get married. That is until someone dies in their actual wedding. Now they have to figure out who is behind it. Luckily it gets solved and everything is well for now.
I can honestly say that I didn't see the end of this one coming, at least not in the way it actually wrapped up. That's always a plus for me. I'm finding myself missing more secondary cast interactions - at least strong ones - and the dynamic at the shop as with other books that went outside Peridale, but those are understandable adjustments for the story, so I get it.
I really enjoyed this one- I loved seeing Barker and Julia work through the clues together. In the last few books, they bounce ideas off of each other but in this one they really dive into it with each other and it reminded me how much I love them as a couple.
Julia and Barker's wedding day has arrived...and things don't go exactly to plan! A spoiled wedding cake...wrong flower delivery lead to a string of 'bad luck' that ends with a 'non-marriage' and murder in the church!!! Instead of celebrating,it falls to Julia, with the help from Barker and co,to solve the case. What follows is another well written story to add to this amazing series, new characters introduced, the reader is kept guessing as to the culprit, with surprising twist and turns, and the question of will they actually get married?? You will have to read for yourselves to find out! I can't wait to see what's next!!
Reviewing for ROCK HARD ROMANCE by Vicki RHR RATING 5*/5
Loved it! This author has not failed to deliver. Only problem was that it was too short! Now I have to wait for the 16th in the series, which I await lovingly!
Another great Peridale mystery from Agatha, who never disappoints. Just when I thought I had it all worked out, I hadn't! Looking forward to #16 in 2019.
This is the fifteenth book in the Peridale Cafe mystery series by Agatha Frost.
This was like the wedding from hell and I felt so sorry for Barker and Julia and the entire mess that became their not-to-be wedding. Everything thing that could go wrong, did go wrong even when the soloist died right before their eyes while singing her last swan song.
This mystery was particularly good. I liked how they dove right into solving the mystery to forget their ruined nuptials. Lots of interesting characters in this one. Little bit of a twist ending that was something you won’t see coming. These stories just keep getting better and better. Love everything Peridale!
If you like cozy mysteries, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.
This story involves a proposal, a wedding, murder, theft, and blackmail. I had figured out the who but not the why. I was surprised by that. One character is having bad luck in relationships. I don't like this character, but I do feel bad for them.
I love this series so much. Gran makes everything so fun lol. I love the characters & the storylines. I had a feeling this book was going to turn out like it did before I read it. Its Julia lol. She definitely has a way of attracting trouble. So very good!
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
This was my last book to be read in 2018 and my first to be read in 2019. I love this series by Agatha Frost. There is something about Frost's combination of a village British mystery and the social issues of the day that appeals to me. Her villains are very human. Their flaws lead them to extreme behavior, but Julia treats them humanely and with courtesy, reminding us that for the grace of God and the circumstances that we are each capable of great and, likewise, horrible deeds. Greed / the extravagant need for money/things is the underlying cause of problems for Rita, Flora, Skye, and Father David in this book. Julia just wanted to get married, in the same style and fashion as her mother's wedding, until murder makes her realize that a good wedding and marriage isn't reliant on the stuff of weddings. 2019 - bk 1
When I first started the book, I was tempted to give it 1 star if it didn't get any better. It was way over the top. Everything that could go wrong with the wedding went wrong. The last few books, Julia South was starting to annoy me. There were parts of her personality that were so annoying that I wondered why some of the suspects hadn't knocked her off by then. But Flora touched a chord with me. I'm surprised that no one else had noticed that the way she was eating everything that she could get her hands on, that she was living in poverty. I work in Special Education so I saw signs especially when people would call her Freaky Flora that she may have some problems. Julia for once saw past her pushy self and was sympathetic with Flora. Although, it's fiction, I hope that Flora gets the assistance that she needs.
I loved this book! It is the 15th in the Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery Series by Agatha Frost. As always, the characters are real people and there is character and relationship development. There are new, interesting characters in this book and more is learned about the history of Peridale and some of it’s residents. The settings and actions are well-drawn so the reader can visualize them. The plot is realistic with unanticipated twists and turns. The events are realistic and unpredictable. It is a very interesting and emotionally engrossing read. I felt very satisfied with the book once I finished it. Once again, I am looking very forward to the continuation of the series!
I chose 5 stars because I couldn't stop reading the entire collection. I can't wait for book 16. Each book stands on it's own and is mesmerizing. What a magnificent author! I couldn't help falling in love with the characters and the way Julia weaves her way into the mysteries. She's kind and lovely. She has all the same worries as the rest of us, ( the weight, her hair), but she accepts herself and finds her own path. She does what makes her happy. I admire that, and she loves her life. Please keep up the great writing! All of us who enjoy mysteries, clean books that make you feel good and people who love their families in spite of their faults, will truly love these books!
Something special happened in this! Something very sweet. ♥️
However, a couple of awful things happened, as well, and I’m sure you already know that those things were killings. How unfortunate. Sigh. I realize the people who died were pretty awful, especially the second person, but to deserve to die? No! I can’t imagine getting what I deserve after the ornery things I’ve done. That’d be plain horrible!
As far as the culprit goes, that part was heart-breaking and I do hope all goes well for that person. I hope their name is brought up in future books in this series, but it probably won’t be because that seems to never happen in these types of reads.
What a fantastic opening. Made my legs feel week. Then I went into shock. After that came the numbness which left me free floating. Finally I got grounded in a mysterious couple of deaths. I'm glad Dot was there to relieve the tension. Confusion with the priest helped clear my head. Then I was humbled and compassionate. My head finally got straightened out...Thank you GOD. Y'all gotta read this. A very Merry Christmas to(for) Everyone. Agatha Frost, Bless You.
In this book Julia and her boyfriend, writer and former policeman, are about to get married but suddenly during the ceremony a person dies and not from natural causes! The wedding is ruined and Julia, also to overcome the disappointment of the missed ceremony after all the preparations, tries to understand what happened. This time she will be able to discover the culprit only on the third attempt also because there are several red herrings. The book is cute as usual and in this case I had already understood for a while who the culprit was. Very cozy, it ends with Christmas and snow.
This is book 15 and this series never gets old. Julia and Barkers wedding does happen but slightly different than what they had envisaged. Again there is much going on the characters seem like family . I never seem to guess the guilty parties ! Always intrigue so much intrigue with the homeyness of the village it makes these books very hard to put down.. I congratulate Agatha on this 15th book thanks for writing these...
I always enjoy your stories. Your choice of family and friends were so special. By the time the end came I had tears in my eyes. Hopefully this family will be in future books. Maybe have Dot get married. I'm not ready to say goodbye to these characters. I had my doubts about Flora but she was mentally ill all along. Thank you so much for these wonderful stories. Stay well.
Can't believe I have devoured another delightful romp around Peridale! It was an utter delight especially as Julia and Barker have their one wedding to attend! Through in a murder or two and before you know it Julia is on the case again. Utterly brilliant and am almost tempted to read another one as they are so very cleverly written and put together. Enjoy.
This latest Peridale Cafe Mystery is even better than I expected. I could not put it down! You can read it as a stand alone story, but I highly recommend you read the series from the beginning. I love the characters and their development over the series. The characters are written realistically with honesty and warmth and never come across as caricatures. The whodunit was (as always) top notch, with plenty of twists to keep me guessing and entertained right up to the end! I cannot wait to read the next one!
These books keep getting better and better! I love that everyone just automatically defers to Julia, even some of the police, to solve the constant mysteries in the village. This one was especially difficult to figure out because of all the suspects and possible motives, and the last chapter was SO good <33
After stretching my brain with a book about genetics, I needed an easy, happy read. Apparently, I am now firmly in the demographic that likes “cozy mysteries” and I’m fine with that! Julia spends very little time in her bakery in this one, but it works. I did figure out whodunnit much earlier than normal...maybe it was all that DNA reading!
I have read every book in this series and loved everyone of them. Julia and her cohorts are perfect. Of course my favorite character is Dot. I live in the U.S. but that doesn’t matter. My hope is that the author publishes a book of Julia’s recipes.
