A brother shot in cold blood | A settlement on the brink of a range war | A woman in hiding
... and everybody’s armed

Territory of Arizona, 1882: Luther Ames returns to the settlement of Trinity Meadows to discover his brother’s fresh grave. It lies beside the charred remains of his cabin. Billy was shot point-blank and burned with a branding iron.

He’s the third such victim in as many weeks.

Rumors swirl that Billy was part of a band of cattle rustlers, but Luther knows that’s a lie.

Scores of cattle are going missing and the town is on the brink of a shooting war between the homesteaders and the wealthy ranchers.

With the killers out for blood, Luther comes across a lone woman hiding in an abandoned shack right in the path of the rustlers. She’s hauntingly beautiful, she’s in danger, and she’s one of the rancher’s daughters.

Suddenly the lines that have been drawn are no longer clear.

Allies might be enemies, friendships are not what they seem, and everybody’s armed…

BILLY REVENGED

Luther and Billy Ames brothers who were building a horse ranch. Luther worked as a Texas Ranger and Katy as a Range Detective. Out west men built large cattle ranches, and these cattle grazed on land that didn't belong to any one. Not until the Homesteaders Act, which opened up these lands to settlers for a reasonable price as long as you built on the land within a five year period. That being said, the big cattle ranchers didn't want this land settled so this is the beginning of "range wars." Billy was murdered while Luther was completing a job up north. He was informed of his brother's death by men he didn't know. Strong minded young lady, families run off their farms and blame put on an innocent young man who loved nature and her children. A fast moving read, not to gory or a lot of cuss words, only bad English, but that's the flavor of the west...enjoy

An SS. Western Novel/Cattle Drive/ Cattle Rustling/ Murder

SS. had. penned the first novel in the Jerico Springs series, which contains a brother who returns home to find his brother charged with cattle rustling. There are no clues who has completed the murder nor does anyone have an answer. LA stumbled through the mystery, which is now cold, but during the search LA finds a ranchers daughter and rescue a her. This is an excellent read for genre.....DEHS

Western literature at its best

An interesting story well told I had a wonderful night reading this, I couldn't stop myself from keeping turning to the next page until I was reading the final chapter and I had reached the end. And,to my surprise the Sun was rising and my bed had failed to call me.

Great story

Great story.
Love Scott's style. Stella and Luther's relationship progressed in a believable nature and justice was served on the criminals. The loss of Billie and Josiah was sad.

Most excellent western story. Love the way the author includes the details about the horses. Plenty of suspense with cattle rustling, murder, and kidnapping. Great characters and good romance. Wish there were more of Stella and Luther.

Great read

Lamour said that there are only a few story lines. Scott does a masterful job of making this one readable.

A good western story and well written. However, the story is quite predictable and the villains are no surprise.

Stubborn

I enjoyed this adventure story. A lot of damage was caused by selfishness. We can all do a better job of looking out for the other guy.

Old school!

This book reminded me of a Louis L'Amour book and there isn't higher praise than that when talking westerns.....this was an entertaining read!

A very good read! Many times westerns can get kinda bogged down in detail that makes them dry and a slough to read through. Not so with "Brand Justice." Sam Scott keeps the descriptions to a solid length without sacrificing the thrust of the story. By nature westerns need to be descriptive and explanatory in order to understand the lengths and trials the characters overcome or deal with. By keeping the narrative simple, Scott allows anyone to read and fully comprehend a story which, cliche as it may be - the tagline is "A Classic Western" after all - the story is engaging and makes one eager to keep reading. Westerns also have an element seen in many mystery and suspense novels - to keep one guessing about what is really going on. Scott deftly handles this without making one character too superhero-ish; making the mystery too simple; not making the narrative too otherworldly. I'm a fan of westerns but finding one which is engaging, with lots of details, characters one roots for and is realistic to the times while also crafting a real danger to the protagonist is a great challenge. As such, I find myself uninterested in many western writers outside of Louis L'Amour. Here's to hoping Scott inspires a breath of fresh air into a stale genre.
