When love between immortals has dire consequences, there is the story of two lovers from opposite worlds.
The life of simplicity Persephone has always known changes forever when she meets Hades, the magnetically captivating Lord of the Underworld. Their passion sparks a sensual fire that neither can resist. As their love deepens and Persephone grows to understand the beautiful and mysterious Hades, their actions have repercussions on Earth that neither could have predicted. Persephone must choose between a life of pleasure with the God of the Underworld, or the fate of the world above.
This erotic novella is for readers who prefer explicit entertainment from beginning to end, with a love story worthy of legend.
The only thing that prevents me from giving this 5/5 is the random sex scene with Demeter and Zeus. It is randomly placed when Demeter is supposed to be distraught, it is never readdressed, and it just felt like porn placement.
Minus that scene, everything else flowed and the romantic story was engaging and believable. Really sticks true to the mythology.
It is entirely possible that I came into this book with too-high expectations. I haven’t read many books categorized primarily as erotica. Maybe they are all like this and I just didn’t know. The book was recommended to me by a friend who knows I like the Hades/Persephone story and it was only around 70 pages so I figured, why not?
I didn’t hate this book. I just didn’t love it either. It reads a little like porn with a Greek mythology twist. There was very little story. It is 100% a retelling of Hades and Persephone, just add sex. There was no character development, no real plot, and very little in the way of real drama. I didn’t feel connected to any of the characters and there were no plot twists or new information to add to the already established myth (besides detailed sexual encounters). I feel as though the characters’ names could be swapped out for any others in any fantasy story and it would read the same way.
That being said, the smut was pretty good. Some word choices are cringeworthy (i.e. member - seriously please stop using this word!) but overall the scenes between H/P were engaging. If you’re here for the smut, you won’t be disappointed. I really only take issue with one scene and it was about story/character development. This scene came out of nowhere, was unnecessary for plot progression, and actually made me dislike a particular character a little bit. This is perhaps what made the book seem like porn to me. There was no reason for the scene (besides gratuitous smut) and I disliked that it put the character in the position of using sex as a bargaining chip with someone I know to have been a sexual predator in Greek mythos. This scene is baffling to me but again, if you’re only interested in reading steamy love scenes, this book might be for you.
This book is spicy and short and man it leaves you wanting more! This novella is 63 pages and it gets you hooked right from the start! This is a consensual retelling (which I think most retellings have moved towards) and its a fairy easy read.
I was able to read this in an hour, again only 63 pages. My only complaint is that the 2nd and 3rd books aren't available in print but the 4th one is. I would love to have all of them as physical copies.
If you want an easy read between larger novels this is it!
Hades is the softest, gushiest simp in this retelling. I would have awarded 5 stars, as other have noted, there is a misplaced, graphic sex scene between two supporting characters that came out of nowhere. I suppose it could be a way of showing how the gods are ever busy tossing in the sheets with each other but it didn’t fit.
Beautiful rendition really but I felt as if the story would have been more than beautiful lovemaking. Overall I enjoyed it, wish it were longer and had more scenes of Persephone transforming the underworld.
