I got this from the library, hoping for ideas I hadn't thought of on my own for making things fit into a small house with few closets (old working-class rental house). Unfortunately, this book is very basic, in my opinion. I’m not sure who it is for: people who are completely new to organizing their belongings and have never thought about it before, yet have lots of space, because every room and closet in this book is large and capacious. It’s possible someone who is already used to self-organizing as I am would find a few ideas if the book just happens to show some detail you like and have space for, but if you have a small living space this is likely not for you.
I am searching high and low (well, within the confines of my public library, but it is a REALLY good library) for ideas about how to finish our relatively small walk in closet, and while there are a gagillion books on how to do a bedroom for kids, there are far fewer on how to do bedrooms for grown-ups, and I have seen so few closets that I envy--most of them are just huge with a very poor use of space, which i have no interest in. This book has alot of very practical advise on how to approach organization in general (not alot of great ideas on design--all the rooms look fairly cluttered)--and the few pages that they have on closet organization gave very concrete minimums for spaces, and some specific optional options for shelves and drawers. I do not like the things they have for Kitchens and Dining Rooms, but they have a whole section on how to approach dealing with your books (which I translate to dealing with media as well) that is very good.
I felt in love with this book. This was the first decorbook that had good tips to make spaces work and those tips were useful to everyone, not only for people who have their own house and a family. Ofcourse the book centered to detached house and its places, but if you're living in a flat you'll find good hints for flats spaces as well. The pictures were so inspiring, that I'd like to decor a house now! Explanations to those solutions were clear and detailed. The nicest thing in this book was the list of different decorshops.
I didn't know Pottery Barn was a chain when I checked out this book. It was mostly a catalog, with their own ideas for decorating with their stuff. And some of their ideas sucked.
Interesting ideas and suggestions for storage in your home. This book offers solutions and tips for all sorts of decorating challenges in every type of room in your home.
