Lavine has a wonderfully readable style. This biography was a breeze to read and enjoyable throughout. He give summaries of the most interesting bits of Pinkerton’s life. He is able to expertly take 2000+ pages of Pinkertons memoirs into 250 without feeling too much of importance is lost. I will seek out other work from this author on the merit of this work. Probably the most readable and engaging writer I’ve encountered all year.
