Surrounded by high desert mountains, roving hostile Indians, and bushwhackers, Paul and Anna struggle to overcome devious plots, far and near, as well as the mysterious villains behind those plots. Building levees, planting crops, cattle drives, digging for gold, and advancing the use of existing technology rapidly become intertwined with ferreting out robbers, kidnappers, and murderers.

With the help of their family and friends, along with the legendary men and women they meet in their travels, Paul and Anna face all their challenges and challengers head on.

Not as good as book one, but still interesting. I was very tired of hearing about Anna's smiles. Her "special" smile, huge super megawatt smile, etc. It was cute the first 5 or 10 times. 50 times or so and I didn't want to hear about it again. When it hit in the hundreds, I wanted to puke. I was also getting more than a bit irritated at the repeating daily activities being talked about over and over again. Yes, we know that every morning you got up early and did Tai Chi with a bunch of people. Please stop telling me what you did day in and day out. Maybe mention it happened every day this month or something. I really enjoyed the growth of the town/village. The stages of improvement was done really well. Will probably read book three.

Book two

Mistakes: I found only three in the entire book. Things like thee instead of the. Nothing major.
Plot: to me this book focused mainly on relationships between the MC and other characters, focusing mainly on the MC and his wife. There is some town building and action as well to keep you from getting bored.
I expect that the action will start to pick up in book three.
Characters: I like them and appreciate Pickett getting a chance to change his fate, as I have always thought history has treated him rather poorly.

Wow, a western with a twist. A fun and exciting view.

As with book one, this is not my normal fare. If you could , would you? The books carry you along, bringing you into the characters mindset, dreaming with them about what could be if you had the knowledge to change the mindset before the die was cast. There were some simple editing issues that didn't detract from the book. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and vision. Really enjoyed this and am waiting for your next book.6

Good historical drama

A sort of blend of fantasy historical drama and romance. The characters need more fleshing out but on the whole very readable I read the first two books in one sitting, and same with the third one, the historical drama is interesting enough to further research the real history of the area. Can't wait for the next one or maybe two. Four star at least.

Better than the first book

This book has much better pace and connected story than the first. Although I still find Mr Allen's style a little strange, it wasn't as bothersome. Maybe I have just gotten use to it. Also this story was much more exciting and engaging. I look forward to reading the next book.

Great build up

The build up for what is coming is very good.
Although the action in this one is slow, setting the stage for what is coming is very important.
I can't wait for the next book.

Sweet read

A great read very well done not like the other kindle books on this site, like a real book. This book is NOT short like all the others it is long, but not to long its a nice size book.

Excellent

A worthy follow up to the first book in the series. My only tongue in the cheek complaint is that it is considerably shorter than the first book. But definitely a worthwhile read. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

3 stars. I like the concept of the book/series and it is well written from a mechanical standpoint. However, the detailed description of mundane activities made reading the book somewhat tedious. I found myself skimming over several paragraphs/pages of descriptive text just to get to places where something was actually happening (even though what was happening was trivial). Despite these shortcomings, I might read the next book in the series in hopes that the author brings some action/excitement to the story.

Great sequel

Shorter than the first one but still well written. Some repetitive phrases like "exploring the possibilities" as a euphemism for marital relations but "huge super megawatt smile" was at least used a little less. Also apparently there were herbs know in the 1850's to reliably prevent pregnancy without side effects and people with no experience of repeaters were only mildly curious about m4's and m9's and learned to use and care for them effectively in a few weeks. All in all the author took the license he needed to to make the story work though so I'm okay with it. Will read the next one.
