Logan and Holden
Holden is twenty-something and will always stay that way. As a vampire he is Watcher for the High Council of Vampires in Chicago.
Running into Logan, a human, changed everything for Holden. Finding him later, almost dead, smashed into the ground by some guys, Holden can’t do anything else than mark Logan.
The Council doesn’t like this at all and give Holden a task toward Logan.
The are drawn to each other and their bond is getting stronger. Holden struggles to tell the truth and waits and waits, when he waits too long it will be too late.
The Council has no patience anymore and send someone to put a hold on the whole situation.
Throughout this story we get to know more about where Holden comes from, we get to know Damek who his Sire is, a sort of father figure, and a bit of a history. We see the grow of Holden and Logan their relationship.
For me I found the start of this story well done, further it got a bit messy and my attention drifted, at the end it got better again. There were a lot of side characters and I just didn’t liked the character of the best girlfriend, really annoying and for me it didn’t do any good to the story. The characters were very flawed, which was a bit confusing, it gave me some mixed feelings. The time pressure was well put down.
There were turns in this story I didn’t expect, and that is always good!

Thrilling! I couldn’t put this book down once I started. I fell in love with characters and thoroughly enjoyed their relationship and how it grew. It was sweet, it was sexy and it was fun!

Holden is a centuries-old vampire who looks after Chicago on behalf of the Council. Nothing disturbing has happened in his area for decades, and life has been flowing peacefully. However, everything changes when Holden breaks one of the vampire laws and interferes in the affairs of an incredibly handsome human attacked by a group of homophobic addicts. The vampire has no idea why, but he simply can't resist Logan. His organized world turns upside down when he learns the truth and must cope with the consequences of his interference, even though it was the right thing to do.
I would like to start this review with the topic of a very interesting motif, which occupies an important place in "Marked". That is the motif of fated mates, who in this novel are called "marks". To tell the truth, it's the first time, at least so far, that I've come across this theme in reference to vampires. And I won't deny that I really liked it. The more so because being "marked" entails certain "side effects", as I call it, such as sexual exclusivity. I think that we can successfully call this theme a rather original one, because it appears in literature rather rarely, or simply this rule is not often mentioned by the authors. And let me add that in this novel, the theme of the fated mates looks fairly interesting.
In "Marked" I also like the fact that the two main characters are so perfectly imperfect for each other. Sure, they are to a certain extent made for each other, they are their other halves, but above all they are themselves, so they don't match each other on the basis of 100% compatibility. Thus, their relationship is more like the real ones we know from our everyday life and less like the fairy-tales, based on some kind of paranormal selection. Therefore, I was pleased with every innocent, little lie about their tastes and liking. In the end, our characters are only at the beginning of their relationship, and that means it's the stage of hiding some facts and preferences that are different from the ones of the partner. I admit that at the beginning I didn't expect it, but I quickly got used to it and I liked this element of normality very much.
I admit that in "Marked" I loved the way of presenting vampirism in modern times. It was really well combined with our everyday life, with the real world. Thanks to this fact, the universe of this novel seems to be more believable and is more interesting. Thus, when reading this book, we not only feel with every cell of our bodies that we are dealing with a paranormal romance, but we also sense the urban fantasy magic this story is filled with. Vampires in here are not the monsters hiding in the dark about which nobody knows, or some vegetarians who don't need ordinary people at all. In the world of "Marked" there are people who not only know about the existence of vampires, but also voluntarily offer their blood. The scene when the bloodsucker has his "dinner ordered-in" is simply positively insane. Not to even mention the fact that there are ways to improve the taste of human blood.
As for the story presented in this novel, it's undoubtedly interesting and very pleasurable to read, although it's not perfect. I think we can divide it into two parts. The first one is a rather naive and sweet story focusing on Holden and Logan's dates, the joy of being in love, and looking at the world through rose-colored glasses. Of course we can find some less joyful moments here, but the general vibe of this part is characterized by positive emotions and developing love. In turn, the second part of the novel focuses primarily on this other side of life, the darker one, rich in negative feelings and events, and brutality of vampires. Unfortunately, I have to admit that although the very end of "Marked" holds us in suspense, as it is filled with action, it lacks a little more of emotions, desperation and personal drama.
With all this in mind, I think that "Marked" is a pretty good novel, rich in interesting themes and providing the reader with a great entertainment. If you like reading stories which start with a large dose of sweetness, and over time are enriched with the bitterness of more dramatic events, this book will appeal to you. All the more so if you have a weakness for vampires.

Chodzi mianowicie o motyw przeznaczonych sobie przez los partnerów, w przypadku tej powieści nazywanych marks (słowo to oznacza m.in. znak, piętno). Prawdę mówiąc, po raz pierwszy, przynajmniej jak do tej pory, spotykam się z tym właśnie motywem w odniesieniu od wampirów. Nie zaprzeczę, że niesamowicie mi się to spodobało. Tym bardziej, że bycie „naznaczonym” łączy się z pewnymi „skutkami ubocznymi”, że tak je nazwę, jak chociażby wyłączność seksualna. Myślę, że z powodzeniem możemy nazwać ten motyw dosyć oryginalnym, gdyż pojawia się w literaturze raczej rzadko, lub po prostu zasada ta nieczęsto jest przez autorów wspominana. A dodam, że w tej powieści motyw przeznaczonych sobie partnerów prezentuje się niesamowicie interesująco.
W „Marked” bardzo podobało mi się również to, że dwójka głównych bohaterów jest dla siebie tak perfekcyjnie nieperfekcyjna. Jasne, są w pewnym stopniu dla siebie stworzeni, są swoimi drugimi połówkami, ale przede wszystkim są sobą, toteż nie pasują do siebie na zasadzie 100% zgodności. Tym samym, ich związek bardziej przypomina te realne, znane nam z naszego życia codziennego, a mniej te baśniowe, opierające się na swego rodzaju paranormalnej selekcji. Dlatego też każde małe, niewinne kłamstewko dotyczące ich upodobań było dla mnie powodem do zadowolenia. W końcu nasi bohaterowie znajdują się dopiero na początku swojej znajomości, a więc na etapie ukrywania niektórych faktów i swoich upodobań różniących się od upodobań partnera. Przyznaję, że na początku wcale się tego nie spodziewałam, ale szybko się do tego przyzwyczaiłam i bardzo polubiłam ten element normalności.
Przyznaję, że w „Marked” pokochałam również sposób przedstawienia wampiryzmu we współczesności. Został on bowiem naprawdę świetnie połączony z naszą codziennością, z realem. Motyw, kiedy krwiopijca “zamawia kolację z dostawą do domu” jest wręcz obłędny. Nie wspominając już nawet o tym, że istnieją sposoby na poprawienie smaku ludzkiej krwi.

I received this book by the author and this is my honest opinion.
This is a new to me author, but I like reading vampire stories and this one intrigued me. Your as old as the dirt vampire and have willingly followed your elders but what happens on a routine hunt you find your fated mate. With time ticking down he's got to choose turning him or killing him especially when an elder is looking on from the sidelines.
There's not much in the fighting against baddies but more of the subterfuge of vampire politics and the overhanging fallen hammer hovering over them and this is where we get our angst from especially when there seems to be spies everywhere. Holden the vampire has to try and get Logan to remember him as he remembers nothing after the change.
This book was well written with good characters and with the storyline progressing as Holden creates his own coven, I think maybe into a poly romance? Looking forward to the next one

This was a good story, and I enjoyed it. I did often feel a bit lost with so much going on with various people, and several different points of view given. I love the idea of vampire Holden becoming attached to human Logan, and I like how the two are together. I didn't like Logan's jealous friend or the way she treated him. And I had very mixed feelings on other characters. This book had sex and violence, along with a growing love. I think the author told an interesting story, and I'm curious to see what they do next.

This was an interesting take on the usual vampire trope....have to admit I wondered what the heck Ismeros' were far longer than I expected (human thrall would've worked just as easily).
There were way too many "talking out loud to oneself" moments with huge information dumps in this story and in the end that ripped me out of really enjoying this story to the fullest.

It was okay. A few errors missed in the edit stage but overall it was fine. It needs some work but overall the story itself was decent.

Good book. Not much of a reader myself, only read it because I felt like I had to but found myself unable to out it down. Would like to see another one very soon.
