“Gemini: The Arch Witches of Maltus” is the thrilling second instalment (“Book 2”) in the Covenant series. All the characters we loved from “Sagitarius: The Fall of the Centaur” (“Book 1”) are back, as well as a host of new enchanting individuals including the lead (Gemini) who is a mind-controlling titan. The story is set in the aftermath of the war with the centaurs. One part focuses on Gemini who is on a detective style mission to investigate a supposed attack by witches on surrounding neutral areas. To help him, he assembles a band of fighters including a giant, witch, toadmen and centaur. Our hero from Book 1, Sagitarius, returns in another sub-plot and the Latenan bad guys are stirring trouble as always. I love the fantasy and detective mystery style mix. The ever growing list of new species features mermen (mermaid men), scorlizards (scorpion lizard men) just to name a few. The novel is bursting with creativity, featuring lots of battles and moves at a lightspeed pace. It’s non-stop entertainment! The epic battle scenes are incredibly easy to visualise due to the skilful writing. The novel is particularly relevant to our current situation in the world as it includes a storyline dealing with the race to stop a manufactured disease of pandemic proportions. And of course the novel is nicely balanced with new love stories. I totally recommend this book!
