An alternative vision of a parallel world in the tradition of Fatherland is a political thriller that illuminates recent history from the perspective of what might have been. IP.
Simon Louvish (born 1947 in Scotland) is an Israeli author and film maker. He has written many books about Avram Blok, a fictional Israeli caught up between wars, espionage, prophets, revolutions, loves, and a few near apocalypses.
He has also written biographies of W. C. Fields, The Marx Brothers, Groucho Marx, Laurel and Hardy, and Mack Sennett.
The alternate history premise is that Germany had a socialist revolution in 1923. This leads to various direct and later changes to history. Hitler and associates flee to the US. This contributes to more conservative and racist US events. In turn, there's no WWII in Europe. So, Mussolini remains in power. Anti-colonial movements in Africa and Asia are less successful Stalin loses in the USSR and Trotsky is the leader. There's no Holocaust, so Israel isn't formed in the 1940's...
There's a lot of changes and the dynamics which follow. The storyteller hops between a number of characters in different parts of the world. These characters have different points of view and loyalties. Not all of the changing events are as convincing as others, but they do create twists and turns in events.
I didn't feel there was a sense of resolution at the end of the book.
My impression is the author's message is that you can try to guide history in a particular direction, but all you can really control is how you treat others in person. It's certainly true that history is full of unsuccessful efforts by people attempting to do this or that. But there's one other thing we can be sure of: There will be others out there trying to mold things to their advantage and to your disadvantage. Even on a small scale, if you don't maintain a functioning labor union at your workplace, most likely the boss will take advantage of that to push back your pay, benefits and/or working conditions. Being polite and helping little old ladies cross the street won't change that. The book sometimes refers to politics being like playing chess. If you let the other player make all the moves and make no moves yourself, you're sure to lose.
an alternative history...what if the Nazis never came to power and there was a socialist revolution in Germany instead...Rightwing Germans escape to the U.S. Adolph Hitler is elected Senator from Illinois...
