Australia's most fabulous renovators reveal their secrets! The Three Birds are best friends and busy mums who ditched their corporate careers to renovate houses, now with massive instagram and youtube followings for their design and reno techniques.
'Australia's most fabulous renovators' Real Living magazine
When best friends Erin, Bonnie and Lana ditched their corporate careers to start Three Birds Renovations, they were rookie renovators with big ideas. Today, with many incredible house transformations under their toolbelt, they're a power trio turning neighbourhood ugly ducklings into swans.
If you lust over images of beautiful homes but feel stuck when it comes to your own space, these 'birds' have your back. The book is packed with gorgeous details from their projects, friendly words of encouragement and more than 400 reno tips to help you avoid budget blow-outs, manage trades and timelines, and style without stress. Whether you're starting small or going all-in with a whole-home reno, this is destined to become one of the most useful books you own.
Some nice ideas and I liked looking at the before and after photos but their basic design plan is to paint everything white with white furniture and white chandeliers and white accessories etc etc etc. I’d go insane in a house like that. Or at least feel like I was in a hospital.
I absolutely love this book. If you're looking for instructions on how to DIY e.g. painting walls, this is not the book. But if you're after inspiration and guidance on how to manage a renovation or build and make your house look a million bucks, this is the book. The three birds take you through each of the renovations/builds they've done and give you information on how they designed each room/space accompanied by beautiful photos of their amazing completed spaces. This makes the book feel like a story and their casual writing style and humor make it feel like you're chatting with a friend. Just like their youtube series, the book is ultra enjoyable, beautiful, and entertaining, with just enough info to mean you come away inspired and enticed to renovate. The book is especially relevant to anyone living in Australia as the spaces they design are for the Australian lifestyle (e.g. indoor-outdoor living) and products they use are also Australian (full lists of where you can purchase everything they used are on their website).
I first saw these gals pop up in my facebook and insta feed so when the book came out I already had a reference point. This book had lots of practical and achievable examples for renovators. There's a very heaving focus on white but you could translate the improvements to the properties into other colours. As the mother of three boys under 10 and a renovator of a 1940ish house, I continue to follow the Three Bird ladies even today. They make renovating much more bearable and definitely more beautiful!
Big on styling inspiration, bit short on details. Floor plans and budgets would have been helpful. Of the houses featured, most seem to have some personal connection with one of the 3 ladies, so not clear exactly how they are flipping or renovating for profit. There are some useful tips (apart from white on white), but they are scattered throughout, not organised sensibly. But great to flick through.
If you can read the word ‘chandi’ and not cringe then this might be your book. Before and after shots were impressive but not sure how any of these white on white homes would work for kids, dogs and messy eater husbands. The book is magazine-lite in detail but some good photos of how the trio have renovated their own homes and others to sell on.
No doubt they renovated the worst houses, and the results are more attractive. The perfect book if you like white on white and are planning to sell immediately. Not an ounce of personality in any of them, excepting maybe the caravan. I noted 14 of 400+ secrets to look into further.
Very Sydney. Very white. Very resort wear. Will look pristine for as long as it takes to sell it, no longer. Will date as quickly as the ‘tuscan villas’ they’re flipping.
This book is amazing. It has beautiful pictures full of design inspiration and gorgeous interiors and lots of helpful tips. Will definitely read again.
Great combination of inspiration and education as well as being an enjoyable read. Would have liked more tips on interior styling and preparing a home for sale.
Some interesting ideas in here but not all practical and they basically make the same house over and over again. I also got sick of all the hashtags on every second page.
