About the author

Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin de Francueil, best known by her pen name George Sand, was a French novelist, memoirist and journalist. One of the most popular writers in Europe in her lifetime, being more renowned than either Victor Hugo or Honoré de Balzac in England in the 1830s and 1840s, Sand is recognised as one of the most notable writers of the European Romantic era. She wrote more than 50 volumes of various works to her credit, including tales, plays and political texts, alongside her 70 novels.
Like her great-grandmother, Louise Dupin, whom she admired, George Sand advocated for women's rights and passion, criticized the institution of marriage, and fought against the prejudices of a conservative society. She was considered scandalous because of her turbulent love life, her adoption of masculine clothing, and her masculine pseudonym.

J'ai beaucoup aimé ce livre, essentiellement par le fait que le style de George Sand nous transporte et rend la lecture vraiment agréable. La préface de mon édition racontait que le roman avait été adapté en pièce de théâtre et je n'ai vraiment pas eu de problème à croire qu'elle ait été un succès : certaines scènes paraissent très théâtrales, un peu grotesque et suscitant le rire. Le personnage principal, Caroline, est très attachant : il n'est pas difficile de s'y identifier et de la suivre dans les nombreuses péripéties de l'histoire. Je recommande fortement cette lecture.

Il romanzo di George Sand è uno spaccato di tenerezza e coraggio, al cui centro emerge un'eroina sui generis, piena di fierezza e onestà, disposta a sacrificare il proprio onore per l'amore puro e sincero dell'uomo che ama.
Il tutto attorniato da un quadro intenso e realistico di una Francia in perenne tumulto e piena di scenari al limite del sublime, dove "tutto è cima e burrone".

La trama es melosa y contiene lo necesario para un libro de romanticismo de la época. El personaje de Carolina peca de santurrona por lo que desanima la lectura, sin embargo, admito que es propio de la época siglo XIX

Открывая *Маркиза де Вильмера* я смутно надеялась на что-то интересное, французско-классическое, с приятной любовной линией и прочая. Ожидания эти базировались на прочитанной взахлеб в классе 7-8 "Консуэло" и "Графине Рудольштадт", но, как часто бывает, временные пласты, искажения и другие ведомые и неведомые силы привели к тому, что ничего из ожидаемого не сбылось - прекрасное прошлое прекрасно там где оно есть, в прошлом.
Сначала мне показалось, что книга про честную/бедную/прекрасную во всех отношениях сиротку и двух не в меру восторженных/благоговеющих/благородных до мозга костей французских аристократов написала совсем юная Санд и нужно сделать скидку на это, но нет - в 1861 году автору было уже под 60, что окончательно поставило меня в тупик.
Все эти:

Мадемуазель де Сен-Жене была так смущена, что с улыбкой шепнула маркизу:
— Как? Неужели мы, совместно учреждавшие аллодиальную собственность и освобождавшие от подати общины, будем теперь танцевать кадриль?

и

Господин де Вильмер поднялся: его лицо сияло радостью, которая, ослепляя взор Каролины, не пугала ее. В этот час высокого ликования чувственность молчала — здесь ей не было места. Маркиз прижимал Каролину к сердцу с той отеческой нежностью, которая всегда жила в нем, а теперь ее усиливали инстинкт могущественного покровительства, право великого ума над великим сердцем и праве избранной души над другой душой, облагороженной любовью. К чести маркиза и Каролины надо добавить, что их переполняли бесконечно нежные дружеские чувства, несколько восторженные, но прямодушные и глубокие, непричастные чувственному опьянению.

и т.д. и т.п. в том же духе по нарастающей - всё исключительно на полном надрыве, заламывание рук даже если прямо не совершается, но подразумевается повсеместно, души прекрасные порывы (сквозь слезы то умиления, то радости, то безграничной печали) главных героев просто зашкаливают на квадратный сантиметр текста, злодеи (одна штука) картонны, ограничены и посрамлены, юные девы только что из монастыря прибирают к ногтю заправских повес среднего возраста (метод прост как все гениальное конечно: "— Что?! — воскликнула герцогиня. — Вы надеетесь, что, как только кончится медовый месяц, будете всюду бегать без меня как заяц? О, вы жестоко заблуждаетесь, мой милый герцог, и я сумею положить конец вашему непостоянству. — Интересно, что вы станете делать? — спросил герцог, с восхищением глядя на жену. — Обожать вас все больше и больше! И тогда посмотрим, наскучит ли вам моя любовь!"), тут крестьяне готовы отдать все свои сбережения и повозку с единственной старой клячей ради блага и счастья пылких и почти святых аристократов, тут все так чрезмерно и неправдоподобно, а сироп повествования настолько концентрирован и вязок, что порой не верится не только написанному, самому факту того, что такое на полном серьезе можно было написать! Слащавая и наивная книжица без меры.

Как хорошо некогда было, когда жили благородные люди и упивались своим благородством, не замечая ничего в окружающих их людях, кроме того же самого благородства. Нет в думах места подлости, их никогда не обманывают. Отчего не жить в таком мире? К сожалению, встретить его можно в литературных произведениях, авторы которых подвержены идеализированию. Жорж Санд трудно обвинить в пристрастии подачи текста под видом слащавых историй, но в романе «Маркиз де Вильмер» всё обстоит именно так.
