A debilitating disease. A tantalizing, yet dangerous, breakthrough cure. Will it be life and love or death and destruction?

In the wake of his beloved wife’s death, Detective Chris Ravello’s life is in shambles. Overwhelmed by grief and dogged by an unrelenting, devastating disease, Chris abruptly resigns as the NYPD’s Chief of the Division of Medical Crimes.

But his hopes for a healthier, less-troubled life are short-lived.

A harrowing near-death experience forces Chris to submit to a series of risky, ill-advised, and experimental treatments that will either cure him or kill him.

As Chris’ best friend, NYPD Detective Kevin Kennedy, investigates a series of perplexing and appalling deaths, he uncovers a disturbing truth – Ravello’s cure has already killed four other patients.

Just when all seems lost, hope comes from the unlikeliest of sources – an old nemesis making incredible claims:
Michelle Ravello is alive and he can lead the detectives to her and their killer.

But can Kennedy and Ravello trust one sociopath to catch another? And what is the terrible price they must pay for his cooperation?

About the author

William Rubin

William Rubin is a practicing physician who enjoys weaving tales of medical/scientific intrigue. Writing for him is equal parts catharsis, creativity, and escape from the rigors of a busy medical practice and the joys and challenges of raising a family.

The works of James Patterson, Robin Cook, Tess Gerritsen, and Patricia Cornwell inspired Dr. Rubin to create the Christopher Ravello Series. Challenges and tragedies in Dr. Rubin’s life, particularly the untimely death of his mother, provided some of the underlying drama, conflict, and turmoil for the series’ lead character.

When he isn’t busy practicing medicine or crafting his next medical thriller, Dr. Rubin enjoys time with his family and friends, running, playing piano, and travel.

Surgeon, turned detective, Chris Ravello has fallen victim to a debilitating, incurable, disease. As if that isn’t enough, he has been blindsided by the senseless death of his wife, Michelle, as a result of an investigation into a serial killer, Jean Louis Durand. Reeling, Ravello has resigned as chief of the Medical Crimes Unit of the NYPD and his personal physician, Dr. Jacobs, has turned to Dr, Harold Hyslop, an eccentric researcher who has acquired a reputation for off-the-wall treatments for auto-immune diseases based on dubious research. With Hyslop’s treatments, timing is everything.

Enter Irina Malekoviec; once a prima concert pianist, she has been reduced by rheumatoid arthritis to first a children’s piano teacher and then to a helpless cripple. Thanks to one of Dr. Hyslop’s miracle cures administered by an unknown killer, she has been further reduced to a lifeless corpse. Ravello is sucked back into his old job as an NYPD detective to find the killer. Is it Hyslop, Hyslop’s chief assistant, Zigler, his secretary, Kiki? Or is it Kerline St. James, the detestable Dr. Jerome Gorlick, or Grayson Limerock, Hyslop’s bitter rival?

I guess you’ll have to read the book to find out. Forbidden Cure Omnibus Edition is a morass of interactions between characters, any one of which could be either the murderer or the killer’s next victim. All is overshadowed by the pressure of Revallo’s illness and the outstanding questions about the viability of Hyslop’s treatments. And to add more pressure to Revallo’s whistling tea-kettle, Michelle, whose death he witnessed, may be alive. Is that even possible?

Forbidden Cure Omnibus Edition should have die-hard murder mystery, police-procedural, medical thriller, and creepy mad-scientist fans glued to the edge of their seats.

William Rubin - Forbidden Cure Omnibus - Ravello Medical Thriller
Do and maybe die, don’t do and definitely die!

Chris Ravello has a debilitating disease that is slowing him down to the point he will do anything to stop it’s continuing ravaging his body, tantalizing, dangerous, maybe a cure is in sight!!! Will he live, die or will this be the end for him and his life. Already he has lost his wife or has he? He has nowhere to turn and he has to step down from his job as Head of NYPD’s Division of Medical Crimes. Kevin Kennedy, his best friend, and partner will continue to try to investigate the sociopath that killed his wife. Now he claims that Michelle is still alive that she never died! Although to get to the truth what will Michael have to do to find the truth?

What did I like? This just keeps getting better and better. With the mysteries and the intrigue building higher and higher. I really have enjoyed this series and have trouble laying it down to sleep or eat. Chris has lost so much and this is such a risk for him but what more can he lose? Maybe it has ended??????

What will you like? Intrigue, mystery, deception, deceit, and experimental cures, what more could you ask for in a medical thriller. Oh, well maybe a sociopath killer that is still trying to convince you to give him a chance to prove your wife is still alive!! The excitement is in high gear all the way from page one to the final turn. Get ready to lose some more sleep cause it’s hard to stop reading.

This is a great story that had me hooked from the beginning. I always enjoy a story like this, which is both entertaining and unpredictable. I’ve read a few books now by William Rubin, and I’ve really enjoyed each one. The standout for me is the characters, and the work that is put into their backgrounds, which makes for a much more interesting read.
Former Detective Chris Ravello isn’t a well man. His ongoing problem with Pheochromocytoma has really given him grief lately, so much so that he had to resign as a Detective with the police, and now seek out a radical treatment that could either severely incapacitate him or even kill him. Chris is going to have to rely on an experimental procedure that has worked on some people, but not all. Meanwhile there is a killer out there doing his own experiments on human subjects that believe he’s actually trying to cure them. Now Chris may be placing himself in a very dangerous situation. If you enjoy Thrillers, then this is definitely an Author you should add to your reading list. Highly recommended. 5/5 Star Rating.
