So glad I took a chance on this particular author as I had not read any of her work before embarking on this series.
I am now a complete fan of this incredibly imaginative but brutal future dystopian world: this author has quite the lurid imagination let me tell you.
This is the second book in the Blood Alliance series and this time we get acquainted with Royal vampire Kylan and Rae or Raelyn to Kylan.
We get to join Rae and her friends at the totally barbaric blood day ceremony where the humans in there 22nd year are being sorted into there designated factions and twelve of them the brightest and best in there graduating class will be chosen to compete for the immortal cup: a competition where the last two left alive will be given the gift of immortality, one to join the lycans and the other the Vampire ranks.
Rae's hopes are dashed when she unintentionally catches the eye of the royal Prince and instead of her place competing in the tournament, she is acquired for the royal harem.
Kyran is referenced in book one as having murdered his whole harem for sport and is rumoured to be suffering because of his advanced age from some form of immortal insanity but things are not always quite what they seem on the surface and Kylans waters run much deeper than he outwardly reveals.
I also found this had a totally different vibe to its predecessor and I enjoyed this even more than Chastely Bitten.
I really didn't think that was even remotely possible considering how much I adored this but this actually surpassed my expectations completely overtaking book one in my affections.
Rae herself is of a totally different personality type than Juliet was: more feisty and argumentive challenging Kylan at every turn.
Kylan I liked a lot more than I originally thought I would he was quite the personality.
I found that this instalment explores the sexuality side of things much more
Kylan even has a male blood slave Mikail though he is not actually gay he is certainly more fluid with his affections towards his charge indulging him with pleasure while taking his vein.
There is also some slight M/F/M action between Kylan, Rae and Mikail
We also get reacquainted with Jace, Darius and his Juliet and though brief I adored catching up with them all.
So this for me was a fantastic read and I really didn't want it to end I was that invested in the unfolding dramatic storyline.
I liked where this went and am looking ahead eagerly for book three this is one series I recommend highly loved it.
I voluntary reviewed an Arc of Royally Bitten (Blood Alliance Series Book 2).
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

This is one of these books were I just don’t know how to rate it. There were times were I wanted to quit because it was annoying me but also times where I was really liking it. Basically I am on the fence.

After humans lost the war and failed miserably to be top dog the Blood Alliance was born. Where humans are no more than cattle where they are divided into factions. Where vampires and the lycans rule with terror, manipulation, indoctrination where your choices are being a slave or death. Where blood virgins are coveted, and blood day is a memorable day for all.

Characters & Chemistry

Kylan is one of the oldest vampires, he is vampire royalty but rumour has it that he is going insane as he killed his harem. He has his own region and he is known for his cruelty, sadistic and violent but he is not insane. Someone is trying to frame him.

What can I say about Kylan? I hated him at times and at other times I barely tolerated him but occasionally he did something good and I liked him kind of. We get a glimpse of his true nature and he is loyal, he treats his personnel and servants.

Rae has been at the university her whole life to train for the immortal cup and to be twelve who win immortal status. But there is a culling of all and well Rae is chosen for a harem which she despises.

Rae was strong at the beginning but somewhere along the lines she became very dependent on Kylan and I didn’t like that. She still had spirit but at times it was irritating that as a character she wasn’t what I wanted her to be.

I liked her but I don’t know she was so strong and defiant at the beginning that I missed that person at the end of the book.

There was too much sex here and I can’t believe I just said that but there was it took for me too much away from the plot. There is some sharing but that was the way of the world that the author has built. I found that to be quite disappointing.

Writing, Plot & Pace

The writing is good here and the author knows how to captivate you and write something truly unique. The author toned down on the repetitiveness here in this book which for me made it more enjoyable.

As I said the author has created a unique world. The vampire world isn’t really my thing I have always preferred shifters but this somehow worked for me. The plot of wanting the world to go back to the way it was or that all species can co-exist where humans once again have rights intrigues me very much.

The pace could have been better it ebbed too much for me and didn’t flow that well. There was a lot of push and pull and too much sex that also broke up the plot in places.

The Verdict

I really enjoy this series as it is unique. It does push me out of my comfort zone and to be honest I don’t really know why. It’s a dark and twisted world and I really enjoyed it.

Brilliant just absolutely Brilliant. This author leaves me stumped after every book i read not knowing what book i like the best,as the story that she drags you into consumes you whole and gets you into her mind and the story that your are reading, it doesn't let you go until you have devoured the whole book, then it leaves you wanting so much more.

I flipping loved this story about Royal Vampire Kylan and Rae,it was a hard sell to start with as i wasn't sure if i loved Kylan or hated him,but you need to read this to find out why that is.Rae is a feisty human that has been sold to Rylan as his consort and the chemistry between this couple was hot, smoking hot.

This story leads us into more of the Blood Alliance world and what is happening, it's intriguing and will blow your mind with how everything is unfolding,it kept me guessing at every turn where i couldn't put this down,it's fast flowing with events that you don't see coming at all. This is a world where you can lose yourself in and me for one i never want this to end, this is how this author makes me feel, sheer brilliance.

I absolutely loved this second book in this series,i can't get enough of this world that Lexi is bringing me into,it's enthralling, mind blowing with heat lots of heat.Five huge massive sexy stars.

Sinking.....I find myself sinking further into this series. This was the perfect follow up to book 1. Foss established the ideal climb to the series. Book 1 created the foundation. Book 2 begins to evolve the world with a power play from Kylan and Rae. Beautifully crafted writing!

Numb....Having lived over five thousand years Kylan has become numb to the world created by the vampire and lycans rise to the top. He longs for the old days. Days when humans were free to rebel, to have an opinion, to fight. Then at Blood Day he has an opportunity to pick from the best of the best...humans he could use for food, pleasure, or sport. When he comes face to face with Rae forcing a kiss ...she bites him in her refusal to accept his advances. That bite changed Kylans world.

Determined....Rae spent her life to be part of the elite humans. Graduating with the highest scores she is one of the few who can compete in the Immortal Cup. Rae has dreamed of becoming immortal and finally having a say in what happens in her life. Then Kylan shows up and demands her to be in his harem...this is where it gets fun.

Super sexy! Hot scenes! Completely dominate MC! Great read! Great series! Looking forward to book 3!

Happy reading! DD

I’m such a fickle person. I realised this today when I changed my mind as to which Foss world is my favourite. When I read and reviewed Son of Chaos I was actually determined that that was or is my favourite series. But here comes the fickle part. I’ve totally changed my tune. This book, not the series, but this book is now my absolute favourite.

What a world this author can build. Not only that but such complex characters along with a tightly packed storyline. From the minute I started reading I didn’t want to put the book down. You forget that the outside world exists.

Kylan & Rae are a couple that works. The sexual chemistry between them is breathtaking. You are being pushed and pulled between lust & hatred. It’s a real yo-yo of emotions.

It’s intriguing, suspenseful and intoxicating and I truly cant wait for more from this world. Roll on the next book. Highly, highly recommend!

Well color me surprised! I did not expect this. My first ever Lexi Foss book and I am floored. This book was absolutely delicious. I usually tend to stay away from books like this but the blurb called to me. I was intrigued.

Rae is a normal human in this new world where vampires and Lycans rule. All humans are in training to be whatever their owners require them to be. They generally have no free will and are usually broken. But Rae is an anomaly. When she should be scared and submissive, she is strong and defiant. That is what drew Kylan to her. He felt challenged in this new monotonous world. He is one of the okdest vampires in existence and is said to be quite cruel and sadistic. He wished to break Rae and make her give him everything. Her mind. Her body. Her heart. And her soul. But she challenged him at every turn. She angered him yet she aroused him like no other. But there is still a matter that needs immediate attention. Someone is toying with him and Rae is the perfect bait to lure this someone out.

I hated Kylan in so many parts of this book. He was so condescending. So arrogant and so cold yet in some parts he took my breath away. I shed a few tears while reading this book. My heart broke for Rae. She is the perfect heroine who protected her heart at all costs. She only allowed Kyland her body.

Lexi, thank you for giving me this new experience. It was beautifully stimulating. The sex was incredibly hot. The dirty talking was arousing. The writing was sublime. This book was like a drug. It dragged me under and left me feeling euphoric. A feeling I didn’t want to end.

This series is so much fun.

Which is strange since it is twisted and scary...

But I guess that's just my crazy brain.

Loved the fire in Rae and the tired, bored attitude of Kylan..

This world is reaching a boiling point and I love it all.

Royally Bitten is the latest installment in the Blood Alliance saga by the wonderfully talented Lexi C. Foss. This highly addictive paranormal romance is complex, creative and absolutely exhilarating!

This enthralling tale begins on Blood Day. A day where humankind are auctioned off as slaves to the vampires and the lycans. A select few are spared this life by being chosen for immortality. Rae is one of those lucky few until she manages to capture the interest of Kylan, the oldest royal vampire. One who is rumored to be insane when his harem is found dead. Now with Rae as his chosen consort, he can use her as bait to lure out those who are scheming his demise. But somewhere along the way, lines get crossed, feelings begin to develop and an unbreakable bond is formed.

Royally Bitten is an unforgettable tale of tragedy, survival and deep devotion. It's a well written novel that transports you to another time and place and immerses you so thoroughly into the personalities, feelings and lives of the characters that you never want it to end.

Royal vampire Kylan is known as being mad. I mean, he did slaughter his entire harem, or so gossip tells us. But during Blood Day, Kylan sees Rae and decides he wants her.

Rae has spent her last 22 years training for Blood Day - to be considered for the Immortal Cup, along with her friend Silas - and now here she is. But her chance is snatched from her at the last moment by Kylan’s choice of her for something … nefarious, most likely. Although indoctrinated and trained, Rae can’t help but want to kill the handsome royal for ripping her away from Silas and the Immortal Cup, all in one swipe.

But could there be more to Kylan than rumor and innuendo? Though Rae hits out immediately and bites Kylan in the lip during her choosing, he doesn’t strike her dead, as is his right. Instead, he takes to her his home, gets her fed, shows her to her room, and keeps her safe. What kind of vampire is he, anyway?

Oh lord, this was good! I have to say I love Kylan and Rae, even better than Darius and Juliet! But don’t worry; Darius and Juliet appear in this book, as well as Jace.

Kylan is just super sexy. He is always smirking, and kind of smarmy, but oh, so kissable (among other things). And Rae is a fighter, much more so than was Juliet. She has an inner fire in her, matching her gloriously red hair, and is quick to strike out, to hell with the consequences.

This book has everything: A wonderfully beautiful and budding relationship, lots and lots and LOTS of fabulous sex, witty dialogue, and plots aplenty to uncover.

I love how Foss writes her characters. They are so real with their words, thoughts, expressions, and movements. They are round and full and wonderful.

If you’re looking for a unique vampire tale, then wait no further. Dig in.

5 royally HOT stars!
I understand why Lexi says Kylan is her fave.
Sigh *insert heart eyes*

I’m also so stoked for the next book in the series, about Silas!!!! Gods, I just can’t get enough of Lexi’s worlds and all of the amazing characters she’s introduced me to so far. After finishing every book, I’m always left aching more.

MUST READ author (and series) if you want amazing (dark) PNR! Can’t express my love for Lexi’s writing enough but whenever someone asks me nowadays for a good PNR read, she and Nalini Singh are always the first ones that come to mind. You need to get yourself acquainted with Lexi’s work ASAP.

Tacco12 - per RFS
.

Affrontami.

Sottomettiti a me.

A volte mi piace”.

Royally Bitten was great fun to read! Yeah, I'm a bit twisted but seriously, Lexi C. Foss is magic with her words and even this dark and foreboding world comes alive under her talent.

One feisty, smart and tenacious human, one dirty talking, ancient and arrogant Vamp, a harrowing world full of despair, death and little hope for humans, and a fast moving plot with lots of action and steam, come together in an awesome balance of light, dark, and cunning wit, to make one brilliantly fun read. Despite the darkness within or maybe because of it, I had a great time reading Rae and Kylan's story. Bravo, Lexi! I can't wait for more.

Since the moment Juliet and Darius appeared, I knew that they had a book even if I wasn't aware that Royally bitten is the second book in the series and thought that this was book one. I am happy to find out that they have a book and if I find the time I will go and read it too. I know I will read book 3 since I got the impression that the world as the characters know it will gradually change and I want to see if that will happen. I hope we will see a lot of Rae and Kaylan in the next book.

The book was good. I liked it more than I thought I would and I am glad I picked it up. The author did a good job in introducing me to this world even though it's the second book and everything has been already established. I have felt out many times while reading a book, but not this time. Finally, I got some angst in a book I read and it was good. The sad thing is that Kylan got on my nerves a little bit because he was acting so hot and cold and he couldn't make up his mind, even though both he and I knew which one was the right one. He messed up and didn't grovel enough if you ask me. Rae is defiant for someone who is food to most of the people in the room and I liked her for that. She is not taking anything for Kaylan and she is making him work for whatever he wants. She was a good heroine and I liked her.

The book was more erotic than I was expecting. It's not a bad thing since those scenes were well written. I feel like you should know that before you pick up the book ( it's worth reading and you should give it a chance)

Tiny spoiler, it's more like a warning, you can safely keep reading
A thing that bugged me was the sharing when it came to Rae. We got a few threesome-ish scenes and I didn't like that since I am not a fan of this kind of threesomes. And after everything that happened, it felt even worse. That's the reason I will go with 4 stars instead of 5. I hope that there won't be any sharing in book 3 other than the obvious.

I loved Royally Bitten and am totally loving this series, where even an alpha Royal vampire at the top of the food chain needs a challenge in his life. The human girl, Raelyn he selects for his harem on Blood Day, gives Kylan just that.....and a whole lot more!

We heard a bit about Kylan in the previous book, Chastely Bitten, a Royal vampire gone bad having brutally murdered his whole harem. A vampire gone age mad? Or is there something else at stake? Kylan is one of the oldest vampires alive, with a brutal regime and harsh reputation to keep up. Rae, a lowly human but with high intelligence, beauty and skill has trained her whole life for a chance on Blood Day to win the ultimate prize - a chance at immortality. To fight against 11 other humans to be the best, to be worthy. When a cruel twist in the rules places her in Kylan's sights, she must remain calm, quiet and invisible but he sees the fire in her eyes that hasn't been broken by her severe training and he selects her and takes her place in the contest from her. She must comply or die, she'll have to obey, but she's determined he will never break her and take everything.

I absolutely loved the push and pull relationship between these two, the chemistry, the fire, the fight. Kylan has his own reasons for choosing her but as time goes on, the reasons starts to blur as Rae slowly breaks down his barriers and we start to see the real man underneath the mask he has to wear. It's emotional too, my heart broke at times for Rae, but she is feisty and full of fire and vulnerability, I loved her character. This book is full of tension, twists and wicked betrayals as well as the steamiest, hottest, sexiest scenes this author has written to date. It's dark, dangerous and brilliantly written with characters you both want to love and hate, in a world where although humans are simply food and entertainment, the smell of secret rebellion and change is in the air. I can't get enough and am excited for the next instalment where we hopefully get to meet the lycans of this world.

Brilliant, highly recommended five stars

I love a strong, feisty woman. But I also adore it when the woman realizes that it's okay to lean on others, it's okay not to be strong all the time. It's okay to fall in love, sometimes with what appears on the surface to be the wrong guy.

Enter Rae. She's all that and more. Feisty, tenacious, determined to prevail despite her predicament as a human in a world where vampires and lycans rule. She gives as good as she gets, and I, for one, cheered her from the sidelines.

Enter Kylan.... oh my. What can I say? At times he drove me crazy, at others I wanted to clap him upside the head, but .... send ice for my burning loins. This vamp is HOT. And boy did he meet his match in Rae.

I adore Lexi C. Foss's writing style, but there's something about the Blood Alliance series that hits the spot with me. I can't wait for the next in the series.

Put aside everything you think you know about vampires, lycan's and humans. Grab a glass of wine and enough snacks to see you through because once you pick this up, you won't be able to put it down.

You're welcome!

I'm off to take a few deep breaths....

An addictive world in which humans are basically property and lycans and vampires rule … This installment brings us Rae and Kylan’s story and it is an incredible read, prompting a wide array of emotions. This one’s pretty heavily laced with betrayal as well and it’s executed beautifully: tragic results, yet I was consciously addicted to every second of it, completely loving the drama.

It also packs action, heat, drama, true love, family love, loyalty and more, all wrapped up into some epic world-building.

As I read, I couldn’t help but admire Foss’s skill level, as the writing is masterful.

Readers: READ THIS SERIES (and any by this author, truly).
Authors: Read this series to learn how it’s done; the art of writing seems to be one that Foss has completely slayed. I fear she’ll ruin me for other authors even.

Note:
I listened to the audiobook, thanks to my local library offering it. Both narrators were amazing and added to the overall experience positively.

Royally Bitten returns us to the Blood Alliance world. This visit has us following one of the most ancient of the Vampires, Kylan. Blood Day presents a distraction from the humdrum, a game to play. That is until one female draws his attention.

Rae has worked hard to earn a right in the fight for immortality, Kylan’s interest is the last thing she wanted. But now she has it, what can she do?

Can she reign in her fierce, warrior spirit and be the subservient human she is “supposed to be?” Or is Kylan drawn to her because of that spirit? Will he foster it? Or stifle her and the heroine she could become?

This is definitely not a hearts and rainbows love story, but full of action, intrigue, twists, and turns. The ride keeps going from start to finish, and Lexi doesn’t disappoint. I loved the story, I enjoyed the characters. Even when I wanted to beat the hell out of Kylan for his thick-headed moments. I want so much more of this series!

I really enjoyed it. Though at first I was like what's with all the hype around Kylen he just seems arrogant but once I got to know him. His wit and his softer side coming out and that yummy display of bisexuality I understood. and she was so firey I liked it, her spirit, a real contrast to the previous book. I feel like the sex in the last book with Darius and Juliette was hotter, that might just be my taste. But Honestly, I am just smitten with Lexi's writing style I'm so happy I stumbled upon her a few months ago.

Better and better

This is a great follow up to the first in the series. We meet the infamous and insane Kylan. But there’s so much more to him than what meets the eye. Rae is fierce and brilliant and has her sights set on the Cup once she’s selected to compete, but things have a way of working out differently than planned. Kylan finally meets his match. The plot thickens with the conspiracy to frame Kylan. I really enjoyed all the intrigue surrounding that, in addition to their budding romance and learning more of the vampires’ politics. A fascinating and engaging read!

4.5* A sophisticated read, the prose impressively fluid. And some of the best world building I've read, which bodes well for future titles in the series.

Strong, memorable characters (Kylan and Rae) with even the secondary ones rocking their place on the page... Passionate (brace for some hot, hot scenes)... Sharp plot turns to keep you reading forward--what more could you ask for?

Eagerly await the next in series.

I admit when I wasn't sure about this series when I first started but the second was a significant improvement on the first (not that the first one was bad). I really liked Kylan and Rae better than Darius and Juliet and the story was much more involved. Heartbreaking at the end but overall a terrific story. Greatly looking forward to seeing things on the Lycan side of the camp for book three.

This is my favorite so far. I really enjoyed Kylan and Raelyn's story. The two are a good match and I liked both of them, although it did take me a little longer to warm up to Kylan. The world they live in is fascinating.

Loved this ancient grumpy vampire and the human he never saw coming. There’s plenty of action, heat and a healthy dose of feels too. Can’t wait for more in this series.

Royally Bitten is the second book in the Blood Alliance series by Lexi Foss and it’s a indie urban fantasy with some paranormal aspects. I wouldn’t call this a paranormal romance series, its way more intense and darker but also the setting of this series is definitely dystopian and has a more Urban Fantasy feel to it. I was so impressed with the first book of the series “Chastely Bitten” and I knew that I needed to read the rest of the book and want to explore more of this series. I was first introduced into this series by Jenn @ The Book Refuge (A romance YouTube book channel) and she fell in love with this series and I have been making an effort to read more indie romance, mostly because lately I have tended to enjoy it way more, it just seems to be less restrictive than traditionally published works tend to be.

Royally Bitten is an intense and gravitating installment that features:

Kylan- Kylan is alpha male, King of his territory, member of the Vampire species, and one of the oldest of his kind. Takes care of his own people while giving off a brutal exterior to his enemies

Rae- a human female, entered training to be part of the twelve elite hoping to be chosen to be immortal, one of the trio of the friends part of the same training, brave but understanding of her place in society and hides her defiance beneath a submissive exterior.

Royal Bitten begins with our heroine, Rae, who has been brought before the council along side with the other twelve humans, she has spent years in training for this moment alongside with her two best friends. They have been talented in hiding their true affection for each other, and they have no idea what is ahead for them. All they know is that they must endeavor to win what is ahead or its death. But what Rae never expected is to be the one chosen by Kyylan. Kylan is rumored to be the most brutal of his kind, but even though she fears him, Kylan senses more in Rae than the average fear and submissiveness that he has seen in many other humans. He senses a bravery and resistance that appeals to his darker nature. So he takes her as his own. Kylan may be the most feared, but that is how he has learned to survive. Everyone must believe that he is the most brutal of his kind. He keeps those he trusts close to him and hidden from the world so they don’t become discovered because they are his vulnerability. As Kyland and Rae explore these feelings that they have for each other, they explore the sensuality that is building between them and slowly forming a bond of trust and affection. Rae doesn’t really know Kylan though. But as they are learning together, they are also searching for those trying to undermine Kylan and his territory. But will the traitors be closer to him than he realizes? And will he be able to protect Rae or lose her forever?

This was the predator. The animal. The male who wanted to devour me. And all I could do was accept him.

I honestly fell in love with this book, and man these books are so addicting. I don’t know why it took me so long to read this one. I read the first book back in February (So yes it happened during my blog hiatus) so I will get to putting the review of that one of my blog soon there. I really love this series so much. Now it does have some paranormal aspects but due to the setting, I would definitely put these books more into the Urban Fantasy genre. They are very romance focused though, and each one ends with a HEA guaranteed. I really loved this author’s style, I found it truly superb in every way. I couldn’t put this book down last night, it was such a quick read, and this pairing is so captivating.

My lips tingled. Actually tingled. I resisted the urge to touch them. Raelyn made me feel… young. Alive. Oddly at peace.

It definitely has its aspects of darker elements. I mean it is DARK as in the heroine in this book is literally a slave to the hero. This is their culture but its not that cut and dry. The hero and other characters in the series are fighting against the laws that dictate how humans are treated so the overall series plot is so intriguing. The romance between Kylan and Rae was so interesting. It was such a compelling relationship, and I didn’t mind the power dynamics in this one at all. (I rarely do in romance) but they are present so just be aware of that in this installment. I am really intrigued to see where this author goes from here on, because I find this world so darkly gravitating and I am so addicted to her writing. It is so easy to get into and I just want to explore it more especially around this time of year. They are just perfect.

A warrior spirit I long to tame for my own use, a body I desire in my bed more than I probably should, and a mind filled with an intelligence I feared was lost among the human race centuries ago.

Overall I found Royally Bitten to be an astounding work that offered more depths into this series, it’s a romance of angsty tension, darkly elements that are addictive, a rich sensuality to satisfy your craving, and characters that you want to fight for…..its a guaranteed romance to steal your heart in every way!

Holy Kylen, there are NO WORDS!

Holy, I don't even have WORDS, for what Lexi C. Foss put me through in Royally Bitten!!

Rae aka Raelynn is a complete and total bada$$ human who's gone through the University system to try and make it as a Vigil or be selected as an Immortal, when she gets selected instead by Kylan the oldest Vampire in the realm besides the Goddess Queen.

Kylan is a 5,000 year old Vampire purported to be going insane as he ages, who may have in fact killed his entire human harem. He is not used to anyone questioning him, and is stunned when he kisses Raelynn, and she bites him!

Y'all this book rocked my effing socks! I spent time hollering at Lexi Foss in my head wondering exactly how bloody it might get before the end, and hoping to the Godess that I was wrong and that there were not anymore Tremayne's out there!!

I was not wrong, I was right, I knew exactly where the bad guy thread started, and I'm not telling you! You have to read it, and see if you can pick up these tracks Lexi Foss is laying down! One of my favourite new PNR authors this one is worth far more than 5 stars!!

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I don't know how Foss comes up with her world building but man does she have some skills!!! This is an amazing world full of vampires, shifters, and human cattle that will really draw the reader in making it impossible to put down. It starts on Blood Day which was mentioned in book one though no real details were given. Well we get all the nitty gritty this time and it so blew my mind. The story revolves around Kylan as he makes a new acquisition to his harem which will change her life as she knows it. The couple from book one pop up a few times as well so we can catch up on how they are doing to. This book/series is perfect for fans of paranormal romance books. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
