Unfathomable

Rate this book
She’s the one! From the day Michael Jarrid runs Annie Brekke off the ski trail, her feisty rebuke sparks his interest. Despite coming from very different backgrounds, his blue-collar Wisconsin and hers Manhattan silver spoon, an unlikely romance ignites. Her playfulness perfectly complements his serious side.

Their wedding date is set. Mike’s hell-bent on completing his final year of college when a surprise pregnancy, then miscarriage brings it all to a screeching halt. The gleam temporarily vanishes from Annie’s eyes. They manage to stumble through the painful experience, yet a longing lingers under the surface. Determined to live out the life they’ve envisioned, they forge on.

Mike starts his job where an attractive, flirty, coworker has him in her sights. But the greatest test comes at what should be the most joyous time of their lives. What happens when a heart shatters? Pure grit, courage, and love are needed to survive the unfathomable.

Jean Baxter lives in northeastern Wisconsin. As a single mom, she white-knuckled it through the adolescent years of her two kids. She found it to be a time fraught with angst and drama. She credits those experiences for her love of writing for that age group. A career as a nurse makes her background ripe with real life scenarios. Along with her obsession for writing, she adores her four grandchildren (more fodder for her stories), gardening, traveling, and wonderful friends. She is a member of Green Bay Area Writer's Guild and Wisconsin Writer's Association.

Unfathomable is Jean Baxter’s continuation of the life of Mike Jarrid and his encounters as he enters adulthood. From the joy of finding true love to the cutting pain of loss, I enjoyed the Mike’s character and reading about the situations in which he finds himself on his journey. The range of emotion the character goes through is very deep and it makes you feel as though you yourself are Mike as you recall your own drama of leaving the comfort and safety of being a kid and now following the road of adulthood, bumps and all. Although I felt that the ending would be a happy one, I kept reading and I’m glad I did with the interesting, surprising twist at the end which gave me that “ah” moment as Mike makes an unexpected and pleasing discovery. You never know where you’ll find true love. I have read the advanced review copy and I highly recommend this book for anyone that loves a great romance.

I was fortunate to be able to read an advance copy of Unfathomable by Jean Baxter this week. I was so happy to follow Michael Jarod from her first book Salvageable to see what will happen with him. Jean has a way of writing that makes you wants to know her characters. I shed tears and laughter reading this book.

Another Outstanding Book

Once again the author did an excellent job keeping a readers interest to the end. Following a life of extreme happiness, turning to unexpected heartbreak and trauma it led to a new reunion. Starting a new chapter in life there was a happy ending. Read for yourself to know all about it.

I enjoyed this sequel to Salvageable. It’s not absolutely necessary to read Salvageable first, but definitely made Unfathomable better. I was happy to read the continuing story and learn what happened with Mike. I both laughed and cried. The writing style and storyline flowed nicely. I looked forward to picking it up each night. Well done, Jean Baxter!

I just finished the book last night. I loved it! I was hooked within the first few pages. I laughed, cried, and then cried some more, but that’s what makes a great book- relating to the characters and feeling like you are there!
