This is one of those reviews that’s difficult to write. I will say now (since this review is relatively long for me) that much to my surprise it won me over in the end.
These are my comments after two days.
It’s safe to say I’m struggling with this. It’s been two days and I haven’t finished the first chapter yet. Normally I would have quit but based on all the 4 and 5* glowing reviews I requested this. And when I request a book I try my best to finish it.
My problem in one word is Gwen. She’s immature, irritating and a complete pain. I’m assuming it’s written this way to show growth and development. If so it’s too much and I’ll be lucky if I make it that far....
Yes I struggled with this book initially. Gwen was a complete pain and even though we’re told early on that she’s twenty-five. To me she seemed about sixteen.
My first reaction was to yank my hand away but that would definitely have been immature and I was an adult, or was supposed to be, at any rate.
Gwen later apologises for her behaviour. But for me it was too little too late.
There’s also an immaturity to the writing. It felt at times more like a YA read. And reminded me in places of Leitha Wards books.
For a long time despite my determination to finish this I felt certain it was going to be a dnf.
But then...
I found I’d stopped skimming I was actually enjoying the book. The writing seemed better (I don’t know if it was better or if I’d just got used to it) and the story was interesting.
Once I’d settled in I enjoyed the second half and now I’m looking forward to the next book.
There’s an interesting story here and I’m intrigued where the author is going to take it. However I’m not sure a lot of readers will stick with it. Like I said normally I would have quit early on. There’s so many books out there there’s no reason to stick with one that’s not working.
My advice (for what it’s worth) would be to make Gwen less immature and irritating. Sharpen the writing. Make the female villain less cartoonish and a little more realistic.
This is as always a completely honest review. Maybe too honest. But I was surprised as anyone that this won me over in the end.
I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by NetGalley.

Wicked is his name. He watched her from the dark, barely able to control himself.
Gwen saw him approach from the dark, tall, heavily armed and looking like the warrior he is.
At first I had trouble figuring out who was talking, him or her. It took a moment to catch the shift.
How she becomes a vampire is a bit different and so are these vampires. I am always on the lookout for an author that represents them in a new to me light. They are accepted as part of the human world.
When I heard Gwen say, “Well, hurray for me. Don’t I feel special?”, I knew I was going to love this character. LOL I love her sarcastic wit. She is a Halfling, half vampire and half human.
We have other supernatural characters visiting and, in my book, we can never have too many.
Have you ever felt like…one minute I was attracted to him and wanted him to kiss me and the next I wanted to punch him in the face and watch him bleed.
As Gwen sits at his beside, tears rolling down her face, I came close to crying with her. I love a story that evokes emotions.
He met his match in her, but will she be his mate? In the supernatural world, love and romance is on a different timeline and I love to go with it, letting the author take me where they will.
Kayden…I laughed and worried about him. He is a great warrior, but, deep in his soul, who is he really?
Great and a bit gory fight scenes and sweet lovin’. This is not erotica, but I highly recommend it for adults only. The sex scenes are more sweet and loving than erotic.
As I saw the end coming, I knew what would happen, with 500 pages left, I was racing through the pages as I see the story undold right before my eyes. I worry so much more for Kayden than I do for Gwen and Wicked. After all, they are the stars of the show and can’t be killed off…can they?
Whew…no cliffhanger, unless you count the tease, which did its job and hooked me. I have to know more and this is one of those series that I want to read to the very end.
I am hooked on the characters, the vampire warriors, and Evi’s ability to spin a tale that captured me totally, completely. I was afraid I would have to wait for the next book in the series, but, no worries. It has been written. The only problem I see is there is no Kindle version available. Hey, Evi, help a girl out, please. I have to know more!!!!!!!
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Wicked Night by Evi Rhodes.
Evi Rhodes did an amazing job writing Wicked Night: A Warrior's Promise Series (1). The premise of the book is that Gwen, the very strong-willed lead character finds out that her father is a vampire. This changes her whole life, just in time. Wicked, a vampire leader takes it upon himself to help her as she changes. Their relationship blossoms. It has shades of Twilight, only far more edgy. I will definitely read part 2. Bravo Evi Rhodes!
Man oh man oh man was this an awesome book. If you love vampires and paranormal romance this is a book for you. If not give it a try you might like it.🤣 . From the very beginning this book had me hooked and all the way to the end. I love how it stops and continues in the second book. It leaves everything open for the second book. The storyline was amazing. The characters were Soo well done that I felt like they were standing right in front of me. I really can't express enough how I loved the characters in this book. It also had a twist that I did not see coming at all. The book flowed really well and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I needed to know. Lol. It was hard for me to put this book down. This book was hot and steamy as well. . Wicked--- a badass vampire that one day may be king. Oh don't let me forget he also sounds very hot. He don't take crap from anyone. . Gwen--has been through a lot of crap in her life. She is a halfling and never new it until recently. She is such a badass. I love her character. . Craze-- He is my absolute Favorite character. He will have you laughing for sure. He is very outgoing but can kick some ass if need be. He is also a vampire and also sounds very hot. . There are Soo many more characters I could go on and on. I think all the characters were phenomenal!!!! I'm giving this one ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐I just loved it. If you get a chance, pick this one up
I quite enjoyed this steamy vampire love story as well as the descriptions of the vampire culture Gwen suddenly found herself immersed in. The friendships she made were endearing, and the plot in general was clever and entertaining. On the critical side, there was perhaps a bit too much melodrama on Gwen’s part, especially in the beginning. Maybe it’s just me, but I prefer action over mental monologues. Additionally, I found the changing point of view narration to be a bit confusing at times, particularly when it happened within a paragraph, I think the story would be improved with a consistent 3rd person POV. Aside from that, I can highly recommend this book to anybody with a fondness for paranormal and vampire literature. Just for the record, it ends in a HFN cliffhanger.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
I really enjoyed this story and I thought that the book was excellent!!
This story had everything that I look for in a book - action, suspense, romance and it was all packed in a book that was very hard to put down!
I really enjoyed the author's writing style and I thought that the story flowed very well right from the first page and it was certainly a book that had me hooked. The characters were well developed and I enjoyed getting to know them.
It is 5 stars from me for this one, I really enjoyed this book - very highly recommended!!
Gwen grew up in the lap of cold luxury, with a dog being her only friend. Turns out her mother had an affair with the king of vampires and got pregnant with Gwen, so when the time of Gwen's Change approached, Mom contacted Dad to come get his daughter. King Gabriel was in the middle of some delicate negotiations in Europe with the lycan clans so he sent his heir Wicked to fetch Gwen to a collegiate safehold--and become her mentor. Gwen needs to learn vampire life quickly in order to survive her Change, but her temper and her mouth get her in trouble with the local vampire crowd--especially Ice, who has designs on Wicked. Problem is, Wicked and Gwen have an undeniable attraction that's taboo according to vampire law.
There were some things I really liked about this book, and some things I really didn't like. The chemistry between Gwen and Wicked is super-hot, and the world was well thought out, complex, and solid. The vampire culture felt like a real society. Some of the secondary characters were absolutely stellar, especially Gwen's flamboyant best friend Craze (I adored him!) and Wicked's brother Hauk. The vampire war against the evil wraiths is interesting and adds a lot of heightened tension--it's bad enough that the vampires ended their war with the lycans and are enlisting them as allies against the wraith. The action scenes were very well done.
Gwen got better as the book went on, but she started out as rather immature and caustic. Wicked I mostly liked, but there were some moments when his use of power crossed the line into abuse--never a good thing for a romantic hero. Ice was overwriiten and was very cliche and over-the-top. There were two instances of POV shifts into characters who were NOT Gwen and Wicked, which made no sense to me as to why they were they--it felt random and pointless. And the editing could have been tighter--there were a lot of typos, punctuation errors, and formatting issues (like several instances of what s/h/b multiple paragraphs all smashed together into one huge rambling one). And the book ended abruptly.
Overall, there was enough to keep me reading to the end.
Despite an upbringing that could optimistically be called negligent, Gwen has turned out surprisingly even keeled as an adult. Her limited parental love and acknowledgment (her family takes the whole stiff upper lip idea to a whole new level) has given her an iron-rod internal strength. Resilient and self-dependent, Gwen isn’t easy to fluster, but there is one family secret that has the ability to change her whole world. When Gwen’s mother reveals that her biological father is a vampire, not the aloof man she grew up with, her pragmatic nature kicks in. Quickly shifted from the world as we know it to one filled with the paranormal, Gwen throws herself into learning as much as she can about her new environment. Wicked, a scion of the vampire community, takes her under his wing and forms a fast bond with the half human. As the vampire community rises to push against the wraith army threat, Gwen and Wicked’s relationship evolves into something deeper and more meaningful. Tempestuous and territorial, Wicked’s ex-booty call Ice puts Gwen in just as much danger as the hostile wraiths. Facing peril and uncertainty, Gwen and Wicked lean on one another as the stakes increase, both for their world and ours. For anyone still feeling the void left behind by the end of the Sookie Stackhouse series, Wicked Night will be a welcome addition to your library. A supernatural banquet, Evi Rhodes does for vampires what Sarah J Maas did for the fae. With immersive worldbuilding that feels like an extension of reality, diverse and richly dimensional characters, and an ebb and flow as natural as the tides, this book has it all.
𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘: My love for vampire stories started when I watched the Twilight Series and the TV show Vampire Diaries. So, I picked this book Wicked Night by Evi Rhodes that features vampires as the main characters.
Gwen is the main character of the story. Her mother had an affair with a vampire and got pregnant with Gwen. Now, after twenty five years of life Gwen came to know that she is going to become a vampire and she has to take training to know more about the vampire life. Another vampire Wicked and Gwen had a very strong attraction for each other.
The world building by the author is super awesome. Chemistry between Gwen and Wicked is really appreciated. I like the writing style of the author, the cover page, the title, etc. The book is overall presented well and readers will definitely enjoy this vampire love story.
Much excited to read Unusual Night that is a sequel of Wicked Night.
Gwen is the main highlight of the story. She belongs to a rich but dysfunctional family. Her relationship with her mother Victoria was mostly bitter and one day she bursted and disowned her. Gwen's father made the arrangements so Wicked, 148 years old vampire can pick Gwen to take her to the school where she can learn about the vampire things while she goes through the Change. Her encounter with Wicked made him feel like he had never felt before. He was immediately attracted to Glen and her emerald green eyes. But Wicked needs time to sort his feelings about Glen. We met another female character Ice who loves Wicked and desires to get the throne based on her bloodline. But will she be successful with her wishes? Does Wicked also love her or not? Find out answers to your questions yourself by reading the book Wicked Night. This is the first book that I have read by the author Evi Rhodes and I am attracted to her writing now. If you love reading stories about vampires, warriors and is okay with the sexual content then this book is for you.
I was drawn into this book from beginning to end. seeing Gwen grow from a timid young woman and blossom into a strong warrior was empowering.
Her relationship with Wicked is beautiful in regards to how it evolves from student to equals, even though though they are at opposite ends of the spectrum in regards to their life experiences.
The book introduces so many wonderful intriguing characters that you want to learn so much more about and Evi Rhodes gives you the perfect introduction and longing to learn more about them and how they will come into play into Gwen’s story. (And their own history As well.
I thought it was perfect how the book ends, as I immediately wanted to read the next novel. Evi Rhodes well done!!!!
'Wicked Nights' is the first book in the series' A Warrior's Promise' by Evi Rhodes. Evi casts a spell on her readers within the first few pages and holds you captive until the very end. The main character, Gwendillyn, is a fierce yet vulnerable twenty-year-old halfling/underdog that you can't help but root for. Gwendillyn is about to embark on a new chapter in her life as she leaves the world that she has ever known and enters the world of vampires. Gwen is accompanied by the sexy and handsome, Wicked, handpicked to be her guardian on her journey to self-discovery. However, unbeknownst to Wicked, Gwen shows him the true definition of a warrior. The other characters introduced throughout are intricately woven into the story, which shows the signs of a masterful storyteller. 'Wicked Nights' is a must-read, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
My Rating : 4.5🌟 . OMG can someone please get me the next book! I was slightly skeptical when I started reading this book about the plot and whether I would grow to love the characters. But this book totally took me by surprise!! The main characters are strong and independent, the storyline had a lot at stakes that makes you want to bite your nails, and the friendship between certain characters are just amazing !! The ending absolutely almost destroyed me. This reminded me a bit of The black dagger brotherhood series, but different. I can't wait for the next book! This is definitely a must try for any paranormal/fantasy lovers!
After a long time, I decided to read romance. I would like to tell you that earlier I didn’t know how to read romance like I really read it like any other normal book until an experienced person taught me to so basically you don’t read romance you feel it and you don’t read the romance logically. So when I saw this book I was in love with the cover of the book and talking about the title, It is the perfect one “Wicked Night: A Warrior's Promise”. The plot of the story is based on a girl, In her short life, Gwen had seen a lot and the part of her that believed the universe was a sparkly, magical place died a long time ago. Her parents had a wedding planned. They were affluent and well-bred politically. For two years, Gwen had not had any interaction with her parents. There appeared to be odd things happening to Gwen that the doctor couldn't understand. Gwen called her mother and she told her that Gwen was displaying the Shadowing symptoms. Victoria, Gwen 's mother, set up a face to face meeting with her. I enjoyed the storey greatly! There are lots of erotic sex scenes featuring steamy sex and amazing vampire guys! Then put the ideal supernatural into a dash and it's a recipe for success. Gwen is related and I love the fact that Gwen is friends with a clan of steamy guys. As a reader, I think if there were more challenges in place, it would have been more normal, but I loved the twist at the end-I didn't see that coming. I loved the book and I would definitely recommend It.
Wicked Night is the first book in The Warrior's Promise series, and we meet Gwen, who is half-vampire. Although she comes from a wealthy family, she is not the usual spoilt little rich girl. Wicked is in line to be the next King and has agreed to take Gwen as his charge, as a favour to her father (who we don't get to meet in this book.)
Gwen is a good character for the most part. She doesn't allow unnecessary miscommunication to blow out of proportion (too much) but she is a hot-head and allows her anger to run away with her at times. Wicked wants Gwen but doesn't want to act on it, which means he is stupid until he sorts it out!
This is a long book which is good because it allows you to delve into the characters' lives. However, I would say there are parts where this book could be tightened up. Some parts seem repetitive, and for saying it is a long book, Gwen hasn't even gone through her change when the book finishes. It will be interesting to see if things 'speed up' a bit in the next book without losing any of the quality.
This storyline did remind me of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, which is not a bad thing, just an observation. All in all, this was a very enjoyable book and I can't wait to see what happens next.

3 Stars Review by Lisa Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog
Wicked Night by Evi Rhodes is the first book in the Warrior's Promise series. At first, it was very hard to get into. I can't tell you exactly why, but it didn’t keep my attention. I understand that it is the first in series and that we get more of the story as a result but, it took me some time to get this one going.
After taking a break I went back to reading it and I found that I was wrong, it could have just been my mood at the time. The story picked.up and the writing seemed to flow easier as the pages went by. The connection between the characters also grew stronger.
Gwen is thrown into a supernatural world and even being the firecracker woman she is, it takes an emotional toll (and sometimes seems immature) learning curve.
Wicked is next to be the vampire king and has his own path to follow but when Gwen is before him, will things take a turn for the better or worse?
One of the things I enjoyed about this story was the action. It was more so than other books I have been reading lately. This story has just the right amount of action in it and made it truly satisfying.
**ARC received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review***
Gwen doesn’t know why she doesn’t fit in with her family. Her parent ignore her growing up, but as an adult she finally finds out why this happens. You see, she is the product of an affair that her mother had with a vampire, so she is what is called a Halfling. Once this comes out, her mother makes arrangements with her biological father to have her go to a “vampire” school to find out what will happen once she goes through the change. If she survives that, well, then she will be part of that community. This explains many things to her as to why her life has been the way it has up to this point. Enter Wicked. He is definitely a warrior. He doesn’t know what to think of Gwen when they first meet, and he is really rude and condescending. So what else is new in her life? The problem? He is attracted to her but doesn’t want to admit it. Of course there has to be another female somewhere in the mix and her name is Ice. She thinks she has the inside track, but does she? Only time will tell. This is the beginning of a new series that may take a while to read, but will be well worth the effort. If you love vampires, warriors and sexy men, this series is for you! I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked this book over all. The story and the characters were great and it kept me interested all the way through. The only thing I did not like about it was the ending. I feel like it really just overly left you hanging. I know authors like to leave cliff hangers, but in my honest opinion this wasn’t even that. It just abruptly ended. I will continue to read the series but hopefully the next book will end better/ more evolved.
Merged review:
Overall this was a pretty good book. I enjoyed the characters and the plot of the story, however the thing keeping it from receiving five stars from me is the ending. I was very disappointed in the ending of the book. I know authors like to leave you hanging, but to me this book didn’t even really end it’s like the writing just abruptly stopped. I also feel as if Gwen is a tad immature. I am hoping she is written this way to show evolvement throughout the series. I will continue to read the series and am hopeful for the improvements to come.
Evi did an amazing job with this story. Her debut book, I would not have thought this was a but novel. Her writing style kept me captivated throughout the whole story. I couldn't put it down.
I love Gwen's character and am looking forward to following her transitions throughout this series.
*WARNING* contains adult situations I enjoyed this book. I was confused with the abrupt switching or point of views at times. This story is very descriptive of pretty much everything, which is what makes it so long. I think it's a great start to what may be a very long series, because this left MANY unanswered questions. This first book, I think, is an intro to the characters, their world, the setting, the bad guys, the good guys, and a good picture of what's happening. Vampires are not usually paranormal beings that I read about, but this was worth it.
A refreshing new vampire series to really sink your teeth into. Hooked me right in from the beginning with characters that make you feel a rollercoaster of emotions. Extremely well written and cannot wait to continue on with Wicked and Gwen’s story.
Simply put, I was surprised by this book. The characters are gripping and the story line is quite interesting. The love scenes are very appealing and quite well written, while the action scenes are equally as well written. All round easy read, with a story line that keeps you engaged until the end, waiting with anticipation for the second book in the series.
Fun vampire romance! There is a lot (a lot!) of point of view switching without good external clues that takes some getting used to before it makes much sense. This book is also clearly setting up for a series and has some really nice world building. Ignore the technical writing weirdness and you will not want to put this book down!
Brilliantly written! What a story...I couldn't put it down! Complex characters all dealing with their own inner demons. A great love adventure..sexy and intriguing. Vampires, Lycans, and Wraiths...oh my! Please hurry with the second book!
Wicked Night is a fast paced paranormal romance that kept me reading up late! I enjoyed the characters, the setting, and am ready to read the second in the series as soon as it comes out! Well written, lots of action and realistic dialogue kept the momentum in the story going. Thanks Evi!
4 stars for Wicked Night by Evi Rhodes. This is book 1 in A Warrior's Promise Series. This Is a dark romance. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a strong women who falls for a dominate man. It was a great read.
This was such a great read! Lots of smutty, sexy, steamy time plus action scenes that drew you in and i was all here for it! If you like a action packed, steamy paranormal romance pick this one up. You won't regret it!
